Amberdima,

You bring about a legitimate issue and if you come from a family like mine, ignoring them is not really possible. This is just where you have to be of a strong mind. Yes it is possible to be scammed. I hear stories of people being scammed by people they even grew up with back at the ol' country and recently fell in love with. It's hard when that person is a relative and telling you first hand. I understand. How do I deal with it? First, I accept that every relationship is a risk and make sure that with every step it is a risk that I am comfortable with. After that, if asked about my guy I just say "we are great!" and leave it at that. I might also throw in a "its so amazing how a long distance relationship forces you to really get to know each other. You can't hide behind good sex!" Use the second sentence only as appropriate. As someone said earlier, the nay sayers can only see for themselves. So focus on building a strong relationship. They'll come around later. I was a nay-sayer, and here I am...

wise words. thanks)

how do you deal with skeptical family/ friends/ strangers (who cares) who automatically assume you're being used to obtain a greencard? i feel like i'm constantly justifying myself and our relationship; yet, people, including my father make insulting comments regularly... as if this lonely, agonizing process wasn't difficult enough.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThanks Vermont. (sarcastic mode on)
QUOTE (gabesmom @ Jan 6 2009, 04:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Thanks to the Vermont Center. crying.gif Because of their lack of transparency, speed of operations, and general typical governmental output, my son's fiance broke up with him today. She is living and working in London, is a Romanian national, and just returned to London after 10 days at home with her family.

She is depressed, lonely, and so forth. They haven't seen each other since July. I am wondering if she is having second thoughts about coming here, but for whatever reason, it looks like it is over. My son wants to quit his job and go over there to be with her, but I know that is not a good option. I don't know if he can get a leave of absence.

Also have a question - if she goes back to Romania, and does change her mind, will that make it harder to get a visa, or should it not have any bearing on it?

i completely understand the couple's frustrations. chats and video can only do so much. in my situation, my foreign fiance can't get the internet sometimes for days. half the time skype cuts off if we use video. i haven't seen him since august and i live alone, so depression sets in easily. i'm sorry they didn't make it. sometimes i'm not sure if i can, but i just try to keep positive, think that my approval could be right around the corner, and remember why i did this in the first place. hopefully your son can salvage this, or learn alot from it.

QUOTE (Lampros @ Jan 13 2009, 07:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello everyone, this is my 1st post on the forum!

I recently got engaged with my fiancee (She is a US citizen) and 20 years old.
She makes about $12.000 a year. Is this enough to support me?
She has high school education.

Myself, I have a Bachelors in Computer Networks and Masters in Computer Networking.

The question is, doesn't the fact that I have this education make any difference as to me being able to hold a more secure and better paying job?

I mean, as soon as I would move to the States, I would get a job, marry her and be the main support for both of us. Doesn't this help at all?

Thanks!

- Lampros

your income means nothing during this process. she will have to get a co-sponsor who makes 125% of the poverty level for his/ her household size, including you. check the guides at the top of the VJ website. good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about wedding

We are planning our wedding for August 15, 2009. We've got a lot of things reserved, etc. However, I don't think we are going to recieve our visa in time. So my first thought was obviously to move the wedding. However, my pastor said that he thinks we can still do the wedding without the visa, but just not sign the paperwork. What i mean is, have the ceremony, etc, but not do a marriage license. And then after getting the visa approved, we could fill out the marriage license. Is this even a possibility? Or is it still illegal?? Please help!!!

Of course, it's both possible and legal but there's not assurance the foreign fiance will be allowed to enter the US at the appropriate time. K1 visas and traditional "far in advance" wedding plans don't really go together very well.

if we decide to go this route, what can we do to ensure he will be allowed to enter??

csc is moving pretty quickly. IMO you might be ok.

i would attach a document and sign it stating how you met in detail and indicating the circumstances in which you have met in person. also, submit plenty of evidence, (i.e. multiple color photos, signed statements from family/friends confirming your having met in person, copies of passports showing stamps, plane tickets/ boarding passes, etc.). i was issued an rfe for not giving enough of a statement accompanied by evidence.

Do you think it was because you didn't send enough evidence or because your statement wasn't detailed enough? We have plenty of boarding passes and passport stamps that can be copied. And about 15 color photos of us together (is there such thing as too much?).

mine was not enough- one sentence and one photo. (sounds ridiculously stupid in hindsight) i guess a happy medium is best. smart move doing your research here first! good luck!

read the guides and begin gathering the evidence you should have sent initially. USCIS will issue you and RFE for the missing info and you can send them what they want once you receive it. some october filers are being processed now. it's possible you should see something about your case within the next month or so. good luck!

I'm just shocked that obviously no feeling are involved here blink.gif And wondering what the poor 1st girl thinks, and how the 2nd one is supposed to feel?

Too many red flags?? Don't you think you should have known that had you spent enough time with her? A true relationship really doesn't happen in two months in an LDR. It should take a good couple of years, with lots of conversation in between!! But....that's just me...

i'm not justifying the OP in any way; however, that's a bold statement. how many times can the average person take off work/ spend $$$$ to fly 5,000+ miles and spend time together? once a year? maybe twice? i wouldn't know my fiance any better than i do now having met twice in one year than twice a year for 5 years. it's the "conversation in between" that has formed a strong relationship.

i think some of the info you're receiving is incorrect. the co-sponsor DOES have to be a US citizen; however, this person does NOT have to be a relative of the petitioner- at all. good luck star_smile.gif

Your correct, but read the OP's question, he wanted to know if the beneficiaries parents can sponsor.

The answer is yes, if they are either US Citizens, or LPR's and *they have to be related*

If it was just the petitioner (USC), then yes, they do not have to be related.

yes- however, another member told the OP this: And the co-sponsor of the benificary , must be a family member of the petitioner . i just wanted to make sure the OP got an accurate answer. some people tend to respond to questions they do not know the answer to and i can't figure out why!

you cannot enter the US twice on a K1 visa. you would have to wait for the Irish ceremony until you are approved for AP. i'm not sure that you could get AP without first having the K1 in hand. another route would be to marry in Ireland first and go the K3 or CR1 route. check the guides for further info. hope this helps!
