K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresquick engagement?
well, we never had an official engagement party because we never had the time to prepare one, i had to leave too soon. we got engaged only a couple of weeks before i left. we do have a lot of pictures together though. but will that be a problem? we thought that we could just say that we were planning to have the engagement party when we returned back to morocco together after some time. also because we wanted my parents and grandparents to be at the engagement party as well (obviously they werent studying abroad with me hahah)

well, im not too broke, i have a little money saved, but more importantly i do have a full-time job making over the minimum amount, along with a part-time one as well for extra cash. so maybe itll be ok? i would think so right?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresissues with having a fiancee from a latin american country??
QUOTE (apeters @ Feb 7 2009, 02:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hey all, I am a first time poster here and just wanted to say thank you for all the information on this site, it is truly amazing. I am 25 years old, living in California and my girlfriend (soon to be fiancee)is living in Colombia. We started off by the internet and met in peru about two weeks ago and all went PERFECT! We really are in love with each other smile.gif Anyways, I was wondering if there are any posters here that have got married with someone from Latin America and if they had received delays in the process because of extra background checks or whatever. My girlfriend is from Colombia so I am worried that they will really be hard on us throughout the whole process of her becoming my wife. I am also wondering how important the income part is of getting the visa because I have enough for the process, that is no problem, but for the adjusted gross on my tax return could be a problem. I have financial stability, and know I can provide for my girlfriend, but I only make about $15000 a year. I am a little worried that that is not enough to become a sponsor for her..if anyone has any more information for me, please let me know! Thank you so much, and sorry for the general questions, I am just getting started on the process and learning more and more everyday so I hope you all can bear with me hehe good.gif

I met my Colombian wife last June (my brothers wedding in Bogota) followed by trips back in August, September, October, a civil wedding in November, and a religious wedding last month and 1-2 hours per day on IM and telephone. So far in the process the biggest headache has been getting my documents for the civil ceremony (birth certificate/divorce decree with apostille's).

In hind sight it would have alot easier to go the K-1 route but it was very important to her to have her parents at her wedding...and what she wants she gets (she's colombiana) helpsmilie.gif

Just save everything that documents your relationship (pictures, travel receipts, engagement ring receipt, phone bills....), download ALL of the forms for the entire process, gather your documents early, read as much as you can here. I've been on a short time and spend way too much time on this sight.

Good Luck!!!

In the K1 process there are 2 affidavits of support. The i-134 is just for the K-1 visa process. It expires when you get married and adjust status. When your fiance, then wife, adjusts status there is the i-864. The 864 is approximately a 10 year commitment. Read the forms for the details.

The support is only if the immigrant become a public charge. Then the sponsor would be pursued by the gov't for the expenses.

Which form should I read specifically for details?

Thank you.

*Update*

I contacted NVC by phone and they say the same thing that was posted here. That I-134 is for the 90 day k1 process and the I-864 is for approx. 10 yrs.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFinancial Requirements for Co Sponsor???
I am applying for the I-134 and may be using my mother as a co-sponsor due to current financial circumstances. My mother wants to be clear on how long she would be legally responsible for my fiance. From what others have posted here I assume it is until marriage? Afterwards when I apply for adjustment of status and the I-864 can I apply solely by myself? Assuming that I should be financially sound at that future time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSufficient Documents for Interview???
Thanks for the idea, I was able to get one from the school district.

I have another question. I am recompiling the original I-129f package to send to my fiancee for her interview. Do I need to include the passport photos again? It will mean me going out and paying for another photo for myself, the originals were/are lost in the mail, long story.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSufficient Documents for Interview???
Last month I received my NOA2 for my fiancee who lives in Kyrgyzstan. Her interview is scheduled for the 24th of March in Kazakhstan and I am currently rushing around to get all the last minute details in order. Airmail takes a week at the shortest and is very expensive blink.gif

I have posted her before stating that I will require a co-sponsor the I-130 portion of her coming interview. I am currently working as a substitute teacher and private tutor so I am unable to fulfill the portion stating my job on letter head. Is this ok? I plan to have my mother, my hopeful co-sponsor, supply a letterhead of her job which is steady and good work. I also plan on attaching tax returns for the both of us from the past two years, w-2s from this year for each of us, and pay stubs from both of us, and lastly the signed I-130 forms from each of us.

Will this all be sufficient? Would I be in trouble if I wasn't able to acquire a letterhead for my mother as well but did supply the other listed documents?

Thank you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview Question
QUOTE (Badgerella @ Mar 9 2009, 03:18 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The best and safest way to find out is to contact the Embassy in Kazakhstan, unless you can find the detailed information on their website. Personally, I would never choose to rely on what's written on any government-issued website. So far, none I've seen has had 100% correct information.

Call them or send them an email and ask.

Some embassies require the packages to be sent in advance, at some you bring the papers with you to the interview. Some don't even have real packages, etc.

*Update*

I emailed and they said bring on day of interview.

I'm just looking into all this visa stuff. I've met my (soon to be) fiancee, who lives in mexico. She was denied a visitor visa, but otherwise nothing else should be an issue, no arrests or visa problems before.

My question is this...is there a benefit to using a laywer? I see their fees range from $300 to $3000. Do they make things go any faster?

I am not using a lawyer...you CAN do it yourself. However, I'm using a service NOT a lawyer a man in Washington that prepares all my paperwork for me. He is not a lawyer but simply a person that has much experience helping people with VISAS. I would recommend a SERVICE not a lawyer, simply because a lawyer will charge thousands of dollars for NOTHING....they cannot make the process go any faster. It is ALOT of paperwork.....that is why I recommend the service...they usually around $450, which, in my opinion, is worth it.

PS: If you want the name of the person that is helping me feel free to send me a private message and I will give you his number. He has done MANY MANY VISAS around the entire world.

this was an answer from a previous question i read:

Now that you have filed the petition, download packet 3 from your consulate website and get going on all the packet 3 documents you will need for the interview. Get them ready NOW and when the NOA2 arrives you will be ready for your interview. No matter what anyone tells you, it is NOT too soon to get these things prepared, DO NOT WAIT for anything to be sent to you, it will delay the case for weeks, at best, and may never be sent at all.

QUOTE (yuriy/maryam @ Jul 19 2008, 05:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi everybody. I have a very simple question. When filing Affidavit of Support, I have to get it notarized by a Public Notary. I was told that it should be done by some sort of special Public Notary, who is certified to take oaths. A regular Public Notary is not enough, because he/she only verifies your signature, but does not take your oath. Does anybody have any experience with this issue? Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Yuriy and Maryam

Like Lona, I had mine done at the bank. It was free. I have used their notary for everything and my hubby was approved and has been here since 2005. We are currently filing to lift conditions and used the same bank (different notary now) to have things notarized.

Your oath is on the paper. The notary only needs to verifies you were the person to sign it. When you have an interview, you will also be put under oath.

Good luck!

What most Americans think is that everyone in the world wants to come to America! This is so wrong! I think most people would prefer to stay in their home country, it is for one reason or another they are choose to relocate in USA. Your father, thinking your fiancee's only goal is to move to USA is so wrong! I bet if it was possable, your fiancee would like for you to move to her country.

The case with my Fiancee is not that she wants to become a US citizen, she just wants someone to love her!! The same with me, I want someone to love and love me. I have not found that person here at home, but I found her in the Philippines.

As far as scammers, there are many right here at home!, for money, power, status, you name it.

I don't know what to tell you about how to deal with all the negitive attitudes, other than just ignor them, they do wish good for you? don't they?

i agree with most of you on the fact that the US is not some haven that our fiances are running to to escape their third-world countries (lol). i would like to leave the US because i made more money before i wasted 5 yrs and $60,000 in college and now i cant find a job. yay USA.

and yes, many american men have 'scammed' me in the past...maybe that's why i fell for someone a world away...

Hi! I am new here but just wanted to let you know that my fiance and I had this very same problem.
I know that everybody loves me and worries that I am being used and I try to understand that. But it did bother me as well and finally they all did come to realize that we are serious and very much in love. My Costel says that we will show them our love when we get our visa. It even went as far as two of my cousins running what they thought was a background check on him and sent me an email telling me to beware and to read this attachment because it could be a matter of life or death....they had the wrong man of course.....it was another older man with the same name but it still caused tears because they told me that they were going to tell my parents. This really worried me because I just knew that I would never get this all straightened out and to let them know that my love was not the same man. Needless to say I let my cousins know that I did not like this and never metal in my business again. I know that they were worried about me going to Spain to meet him for the first time but still that did not help me to understand their reasoning at the time. Now it is all straighten out and as I told you earlier they know now that we are very much in love. One of them even fixed us a binder with all the info and forms from the USCIS site which really helped out because we did not know the first thing we needed to do and have even sent us a box of Wedding presents already. Anyway just wanted you to know that you are not alone. It will work out-------just do alot of ignoring and praying.

Well, looking @ your relationship history:
Met: 6-04-2008
Last visit: 8-26-2008
I-129F sent: 9-02-2008

I-129F NOA1: 9-08-2008
Touch: 9-11-2008

I could probably see why they may seem skeptical of your relationship and why they might assume you're getting used for a greencard... I'm not saying it can't happend in that short of time(for a relationship to happen), but, if it was one of my close buddies that came to me and said "hey, guess what, I'm going to marry this girl who I just met(online???) about 3/months ago... " I would be skeptical as well, and it would be cus I would be worried for him, but I can't stop him from going thru with it...

And, I probably fit under your 'strangers(who cares)' section, but you have to care, cus why else would you post a question on a public forum where strangers can give you their opinion, whether it is something you agree with or not..

If you really want to shut everyone up, go thru this and prove everyone wrong when you're still togther and have little ones running around(if you decide to have little ones blush.gif ) ... but @ the same time, if it does turn into a scam, be ready for 'I told you so' and take it like a man.. either way, it's your choice in the end, you're an adult, we are all responsible for our choices..

Good luck and hope it works out for you good.gif

Hello everyone,

Just an update here and perhaps some feedback from anyone who has received a approved expedite request would be helpful.

The USCIS is reviewing my expedite request. They touched it again today. It has taken them a little over month to get the details. Normally I would of not requested it, but my mother is dying from cancer and wants to see my fiancee and I married before she dies. Hope that happens, however, I am assuming we are minimal 2 months to 3 months out even if it goes quickly and mom is starting to show signs that things are rgetting worse. She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, unable to opperate and it now has speard to her spine, brain, lung, liver and who knows where else. Looks like it is moving rapidly. Unfortunately she is also the caretaker for my 76 year old father and my 91 year old aunt and without her there, I will have to take care of them to keep them in their home they worked for their whole life for. I am making plans to temporalily reside there, not change address as I have a job where I can work form different places in the US, but to provide them security in their home. Anyway the USCIS requested additional information back on December 20th, which I provided a two page letter from me and the Doctors diagnosis, limited in detail because of Hippa laws.

Anyway, if we are lucky enough to get approved, I am seeking information from anyone who has gone through this process and has received an expedite approval to learn how I might get the rest of the process expeditied, not to cause problems. My hopes are that the expedite approval, if granted, will follow the the papers to the NVC and then to Bangkok Embassy. I have thought about contacting my Congressman and my mothers asking for them to look into this and see if they can help but have not done so as I am afraid my case will all of a sudden get delayed longer. Anyone with experience here please fill me in. I may call my congressman to get advice.

We did have a Budhist ceremony, not an official marriage in the sense of Thiialand or the US unless you file marriage papers in Thailand at the local Government office, which we did not. We did this for her family and it was wonderful. I talk to her twice to her a day in the morning and at night as she is waking up when I am about to go to bed. I have been learning Thai daily and she has been studying English.

Sawadee, waiting and hoping

We're tallying up how much we need to have saved to get this whole process completed, and figured out everything but the air fair. When he's granted his VISA (being positive, not if but when!!), can he purchase a one way ticket to the US, or is he required to buy a round trip ticket in case he's denied at POE? He's being told he has to have round trip, but that's by people who've only been over on tourist's VISA's, not K-1's. Anyone know?

Thanks!

He can purchase a one-way ticket on a K1 visa. Though sometimes return tickets are even cheaper than one way tickets! For tourist visas it's always a requirement to have a return ticket.

That's what I was thinking, but he had me second guessing myself!! Thanks for the heads up on the possibly cheaper round trips, I'll be sure to look at both when that time comes!!

I agree, I don't know why, but round trip tickets are mostly always cheaper than one ways...go figure...good luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDesperation
The first time me and my husband had to say goodbye after our honeymoon was the most sad moment in my life, little I knew what was ahead of us!!!
the second time was even harder to the point where I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it without him! many, many tears, sleepless nights, not able to eat for days at a time (the best diet ever lost 15 punds in 2 months) The feeling is certainly overwhelming, like there's no way out! my life has been on hold for the past 8 months I haven't been able to function normal, I won't be till he's with me and start our new life together and never ever be apart again EVER....
I must say that my faith in God it's been essencial in the whole process without him I don't know where I'b be.
Our journey is almost over with my husband having his interview tomorrow it's not on our control anymore is in God's hands.
I pray for each and one of you for a speedy reunion with your loved ones with God everything is possible!!!!!

I rolled my eyes at this bit of your reply, I really did.

But then....................

........I thought, "haha, this one at least has a sense of humour...!!"

...but then you went and spoiled it all with.............

Quit while you're ahead, S&M, quite while you're ahead......

Well if this is all you were able to come up with then I am certainly still ahead. But I don´t care about that. Your ideas are sad and it´s good to know none of us (who have to roll our eyes over your prehistoric thoughts and judgments) are destined to live with you. If you are so jealous about other people´s relationships working so well despite their age difference, then it´s your problem. Don´t bother us with it any longer. Oh, and let us know in about 30 years how your bogus relationship turned out tongue.gif

Forget the stats and the odds.. There is no 100% guarantee for a happy marriage based on stats.

Another reason I'd like to see some stats is because there are SO many filipina women that have been married before and have difficulty getting out of the previous marriage(s), (as witnessed on here) based on that fact alone the success rate doesnt seem to be too high, im a little concerned that a lot of these women (mine included) just want a green card. From what I can see, she loves me very much, but i cant help but have a little doubt. I'm very sceptical when it comes to this, I have one failed marriage already (not a foreigner) I certainly dont want another one.

Why do you want to see numbers?,nothing..absolutely nothing is garantee in life, stats don't have anyhting to do with love.. like I mentioned before if you're not ready to compromise, most likely if won't be susscesful. There are plenty of happy marriages among Philipinas as far I'm concern and NO,NOT everybody is after a green card.
Good luck
Abby

Well, this is a good thread. Well done for being so honest.

You know, I would love to see some stats on how well immigration marriages last compared to the 'norm'. I would like to think that we work so hard at being together in the first place, that working at having a happy marriage will be second nature.

And bear in mind, that in the old days no one lived together before marriage, and it seemed to work just fine, perhaps better?

I also would love to see some stats, anyone have any idea where we could get this information? I liked what you had to say Scarlett, however your comment about the old days, well, i dont entirely agree with that, people back then stayed in miserable marriages because they felt it was the right thing to do and put on a happy face for the rest of the world.

Every experience is diferent, every couple is diferent, I only spent 22 days with my husband prior to his moving to the USA but the thing is that we always knew from the very begining that we wanted to be together and spend the rest of our lives together and after six months living the REAL LIFE as a married couple I only have to say that it was the decision I've ever made in my entire life, not everything is perfect don't get me wrong but I can honestly say we're very happy together. If you are experiencing doubts in your relationshio perhaps it may be wise to wait and get to know each other better to make sure you're making the right choice for the both of you.
God bless
Abby
