Hi to all my friends!

Today I received my passport with my IR1. No errors on it. So... just waiting for the 18th. Im getting a little bit sad. I almost forgot all this process but once the case got the NVC, everything went really fast, more than I expect it, really. Im surprise. I have a lot of things to do in my country before leaving and short time.

Now I have a question: What should I do once in the States? I know that I don't need the removal of conditions cause a have 3 years married... but, what follows in this process? Is this the end?


Howlong,

At POE, your passport will be stamped I-551 (it is like 1 year temporary GC).
In 2 to 4 weeks time, you should have SSN if you ticked YES in DS-230. If you don't get it within this timeframe, go to SSA office, fill SS-5 to apply for SSN.
In 4 to 8 weeks time, you should have welcome letter and plastic green card.

That's it for now.

Then after 3 years, you will be eligible for Naturalization.

i dunno if I'll pass it because I'm waiting on husband bc and DS-230 it usually takes 10 days to get mail from him, ment to get it sent sooner, but procrastinated a with the the delay from USCIS.


Because of the delay from your side, now it will be difficult. However, it will be still faster for you.

Unless you do something to change it, the green card and social security card will go the address indicated on the DS230 form. Whatever else you do, make sure you give the correct current address to the Customs and Border Protection agent when you arrive at the Port of Entry.

Cr-1 visas are only processed in Montreal, so no choice, you'll be going to Montreal

K visas have the option of going to Vancouver or Montreal for their interview based on location like payx said, but not for Cr-1s

My Romanian wife and I have a zillion videos of the time we've spent together, in both Romania and the USA. Has anybody here ever burned a DVD of videos to submit as proof of a bona fide relationship? Would the NVC even consider looking at videos? Or would this be a waste of time?



I don't believe USCIS accepts any documentation in electronic form. As far as bringing to to your interview, as Loto posted, it may also not be accepted due to security concerns. I would suggest sticking to paper copies of photos. Good luck!

Once both fees have been paid and the bar coded sheets are generated you can send them in together. That's what we did and had no problems at all.

There will be one barcode cover sheet for the I-864 (AOS ) and a separate one for the DS-230 (IV). Make sure you include both. Good luck!

We had our interview and the visa was approved. During the pre-screening process, the screener noticed our date of marriage and changed our paperwork to say IR-1. I did not have to mention it at all.

I'll be sure and verify at the POE as well. I don't want to have to go through the hassle and expense of removing conditions if we don't need to.

K-3 is a dead visa, don't even both yourself with it. Not only will it not speed up the process, the visa was administratively closed in February of this year

You cannot work without authorization. If you do not have your green card or a work permit, you cannot work in the US. Canadians may visit for up to 180 days without a visa. However, admittance and duration of stay is up to the CBP at each crossing

If you are hoping to have your visa and be able to enter the US to work this winter I'm afraid you may be too optimistic. The entire process from NOA1 to interview is taking anywhere from 9 -12 months. All spousal visa interviews are done in Montreal and they have been seriously backlogged for some time now. Good luck!

My interview checklist did not not request any of the originals (they were forwarded by NVC) BUT to be on the safe side I brought extras. A few extra $ for peace of mind was worth it to me. Good luck!

I filed my I-130 on April 13 and got an RFE on the October 1st. With my application, I made the mistake of sending only color copy of marriage certificate. Apparently, it is not legible enough to read (I could read it). So I got an RFE to send another copy of my marriage certificate. But this time, I sent both black/white and color copies of the same PDF file, which I used to print out my marriage certificate. And I got approved on the 25th. I just thought it is good idea to let everyone know--so you guys don't make the same mistake.

My wife has filed her taxes through a website that do your taxes for a fee, and she has a copy of that with her she has told me that this will work but i am making sure its correct for myself

would that work or she has to call IRS too to get the tax transcript ?


That will work with her W2/1099.

But , if I were you, I would have ordered last 3 years IRS tax transcripts and will include only this. No additional papers to NVC from my side, other than the bare min. what required.

"All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the:

2.) IV Packet MUST contain - Original/Certified marriage certificate, Original/Certified birth certificate of the beneficiary and Completed and signed form DS-230 Part 1 by the beneficiary. Correct?

3.) If answers to both questions above is YES that means petitioner in US MUST obtain all this documents from beneficiary as soon as I 130 gets approved. Correct?

Average time in NVC depends on how aggressive you are in NVC process.

Best record is 13 days. OBX and me completed in 18 days. General average is 1 to 1.5 months for most of the people. If you depends on regular NVC mail method, it can take many months too.

Consulate interview schedule depends on how busy is the Consulate. It can be answered to the people in your country.

I sent last 3 years IRS tax transcripts only. Some people has sent both transcripts AND tax returns (1040 & schedules) with W2/1099 etc.

You should start collecting all the required documents immediately, if not done so.

In the U.S consulates in India (especially I know at Chennai), there are translators for the English and regional languages for non-immigrant visa categories. I don't know about this is applicable to Immigrant visa categories.

BTW, My wife prefers interview in English.

The passport change is basically a choice. If you want your wife's green card to have her MARRIED name, then the passport should be changed first because the green card will show exactly what the passport says. If not, then her green card will be issued with her maiden name.

It's always cheaper and easier to have the passport changed in the home country (at least, most of the time). It took me 4 weeks to get my new passport, I had to bring the marriage certificate and 2 photos, that was basically it. But again, it DOES NOT have to be changed.
