I beg to disagree on the highlighted statement. There may be former bar girls but I believe MOST of K1 petitions are for filipinas working in less questionable fields. There are lawyers, doctors, researchers, teachers, designers, web programmers, sales reps, entreprenuers, accountants, nurses, sales ladies in department stores, etc. Former bar girls constitute the minority.... well at least here on vj and also amongst the people who filed K1 or K3 visas outside vj that I know of. Saying somebody was a bar girl has negative connonotation but I agree with stuart, bar girls do not automatically mean they are/were prostitutes. And even if they were, if they are truly reformed then there is no problem giving them a fair chance in love right?

Perhaps this old thread could be of help: http://www.visajourn...h...109645&st=0

Thanks to all for the input.

As related to me, his GF/SO/fiance did in fact engage in prostitution. His concern is now related to crimes of "moral turpitude". I do not judge any girl for being a prostitute. I have on occasion been asked to talk with girls and see if I can convince them to leave the trade. A mother that I have never met in person is forever thankful for my intervention in her daughter's life. Most of these girls to use a Biblical analogy are like the "prodigal son".

The comments by nephew's "friends" are IMO are ex-pats speaking out their a$$.

the other link has a lot of good info as well. I'll send him the links

Have you ever been arrested or convicted for an offense or crime involving moral turpitude. No arrested or conviction then no moral turpitude
first u quote the bible and then u think its ok to lie? which side of the fence are u on?

I have a question for you: Marla and I met when she was a bar girl in Cebu. She said that she was doing it to help out her family. She stopped working in the bar a week ago because she felt our relationship was more important. If I want to bring her back to the US and marry her on a K1 visa will her being a bar girl affect the process? My friends say that it shouldn't be a problem for me because most of the K1 petitions are for former bar girls. What do you think?

Will her being a bar girl/prostitute derail the K1 visa?

Thanks in advance for the help good.gif

Honestly, I feel that ronjie and DEDixon have a totally unfair approach to this, study the langauge, instead of trying to stamp out the little exposure you find yourself forced to endure. If you want immersian into a langauge, this forum is one of those places to get that. I have no doubt that many people here while able to understand english and speak it well, find it very frustrating too, it's far more comfortable to speak and write in their native tongue. I remember my flight home, very specifically the first time I heard a native english speaker, it was something of a moment of clarity, I didn't have to concentrate to understand, it was loud and clear, the langauge I know. You feel left out when everyone else is speaking tagalog, then change yourself, instead of trying to force everyone else to change. Basically it's not about you, you have some valid points but you are ignoring everyone elses in favor of your own, selfish needs, your life is made easier if everyone speaks english around you, but you are making those who would prefer to speak their native tongue harder. It's rude to expect everyone else to cater to your personal needs!!!

I personally like the fact that this forum has a mix of english and tagalog, it gives me practice reading material that occassionally has some context, unfortunately I don't know enough tagalog yet to read many posts and know what the heck is being talked about, but with the help of a trusty dictionary and spending some time I can figure it out. I also know that if I have to I can ask a question here in english and an englihs answer will show up, so I CAN get the information I want.

my point as well. You take too much pride on yourself not to take effort to learn our language. You want everyone around you to conform to your ways for your own convenience. Do you know why you feel left out? because you chose too, you don't want to listen or learn. If you put your ear or mind on to discussion you will find yourself immerse into the foreign language and surprisingly pick up couple of words and eventually figure out what they are talking about. If you can't, ask someone to translate the discussion for you, posts here are mostly in bisaya not in tagalog.

This forum is our comfort zone. Yes we know how to speak English but it's still different when you can use your own native tongue. Less effort to speak and write. It's like a nice break to use their language again. And we can fully express ourselves. We are not being rude. But if you start a thread and everyone is replying in another language then that is rude. If you want to know something ask, be humble. Everyone is willing to help you out. I did not find the rules of language etiquette here, if you have it please do furnish us such copy. But what I know is Give Respect to the OP if she opt to write in her own language.

You need to discuss this issue with your SO's, your frustrations are projected to this thread. Tell them how you feel when you have family gatherings and everyone starts to speak in diff language. Point it out to your wife when you are in the room everyone should talk in English. Then do your part as well study our language, don't take this a one sided effort. Be more open minded.

Some Pinoys find it difficult to speak in English, coz not everyone in Philippines and even in this forum are fluent in your language. It takes too much effort using English in the conversation, some cannot fully express themselves, and can be frustrating for them. It's like having a nose bleed, as pinoys would say it, because of too much pressure in their brain to converse with you. Eventually they feel embarrassed to speak in English coz they were not able to communicate well to you.

Study our language, be humble to ask and talk to your SO's re your issues during family gatherings.

Absolutely true! good.gif good.gif good.gif
your kidding me, right ?... do you know how many times someone has asked for a translation and has been totally ignored? no need to study a language when we already share one. if I learn some of it great. if not, no big deal. have you noticed that all the formal and gov't papers in the PI are in english. including street signs, etc.

its redundant to learn another language, when we already share a common language. not knowing tagalog won't hurt me. but not sharing things we should know to make the transition easier for our spouces will hurt them. I personaly would choose to learn another language that is useful like spanish or any other. like I said we already have a common language. like I said it has nothing to do with being selfish or rude. I would like to know what or how I can make life easier for my wife when she moves here. but I guess you don't and never will understand. ignorance is blessed !!!

It could go either way. If your SO is the type that needs the extra support (in-person) and you can afford it, I say go. But if you and your SO are confident that he/she is well prepared and can handle it alone, save your money for your SO's plane ticket, AOS fee, new clothes, etc...

Good luck star_smile.gif

I will Attend our interview in Kiev. Ekaterina asked me to because she was nervous and hey let's face it....any reason to see them...I WILL TAKE IT!!! smile.gif This is what we are doing, we are essentially gambling on the plane tickets....Interview is July 17 (say a prayer for us) so i scheduled return tickets for the 26th...i did this based on reading visa journey posts about the passport arriving by fed-ex 3-7 days after the interview. We will go to the interview the return to Sevastopol to finish packing,...if we are approved. wait for passport then fly back to Kiev and hopefully AMERICA!!!!

Dr. Bill
there are ways to reschedule your tickets if you must, it usually cost a small fee but shouldn't be a problem. either through the airlines or travelers insurance.....

I agree with lokashadow04:

you don't need DSWD clearance if your the biological mother of the children...but i think you need to get a Travel to Consent from the biological father of your children and have it notarized...coz you will need that....

there is no more DV fee. at least not now !! you can pay it if you want. but my wife will have an interview this month, and we will not pay it. just bring original cenomar ( in our case cenmar ) and other doc's that they require and that will be sufficient. ....but things have changed so I wouldn't suggest to all the people you help to keep giving their money away when they don't have to anymore..

CanadaADD - ADHD - hyperactive - have you encountered this with your children
the more letters they can put next to your childs name, the more money they will get from grants. most schools have child study teams now. and they like to take parents (especially single parents) into a small room with a big table. around that table sits about 6 or 8 people, (principle, nurse, school psycologist, special needs teacher, teachers aid, and other members from the child study team) that try to tell you whats best for your child. keep in mind if they do not fill the requirements for the amount of children they will not get the federal and state grants. and some will lose their rather well paying jobs. the truth is most kids will grow out of their social and attention problems (look at Michael Phelps). but the letters in front of their name may hurt them from getting into certain colleges. we as parents know are children best. and do whats best for them !!!

And now you say she can live and work anywhere on her own. Hmmmmm......

"Actually shes really not capable of supporting herself, she still lives with her parents and would never survive living on her own with all the expense it entails. She knows what my attitude is like, I talk to her all the time about this, she doesnt get offended she laughs it off, and makes fun of me, she has a sense of humor, and thats just a couple of things that I love about her. As for you implying that I'm miserable well thats the furthest thing from the truth, I'm quite happy, I have a job that I love, I have family and friends (and a dog) that care for me, I have my own house, so I'm the furthest thing from miserable. So lets hope you find that peace that I can honestly say I have within. Losing your anger would be a start."

We are not divorced yet. We have a court date at the end of February. His 2nd interview is in July. I removed my name from all things we had "jointly".
As for the "who cares" statement? I just want to say, I am more broken hearted that when someone helps out the less fortunate, you heart gets kicked in! Not sure if it ever happened to you, but it hurts. Yes, I will get over it, but why should he stay here when he abused me and my kids?? He's a liar, cheat, and thief. I should have known better when I went to Nigeria and saw everything that happens over there. Anyways, my soon to be ex said he could "sue me" for not supporting him. Is that true to?

your affidavit of support is a contract with the U.S. government. not your soon to be ex-husband. he can not sue you for support, unless he is eligible for alimony. I would try to get his offer of a bribe to stay, documented. either in writing or recorded. I don't think he has strong grounds to stay here in the U.S. unless its in the county jail or state even better. committing certain crimes can be grounds for deportation also.

Well if thats what you chose, then hopefully you thought it out good... and the only logical answer would be to try and be with her there. I know I would. You should consider what your wife to be wants,.. maybe a wedding with her family and friends present is very important to her. we are all a little impatient, but time doesn't stand still..she will be here before you know it.
