I filed for my husband on the 18th. It was the soonest we could do as I was in Finland for the week previously, as it was the time we had planned on doing DCF :angry:
Then the documents he mailed me in January didn't arrive in the US until after I left....but anyway. Now that the long weekend is over, VSC should receive my I-130 today. I have nearly everything together for the I-129F, except the payment, and will send that off AS SOON as I get the the NOA :)

It seems they also frown on couples who have only met once, met for a short period of time, and who get married young or quickly (according to them), right?

Sheesh, how big of a deal is it for you to be young when you get married? I was only 21 when I got married and my husband 23. They commented at the consulate, when i was getting the affidavit that I'd never been married before signed, that while they see a lot of couples (there was even one right before me!) they don't see a lot of couples "like us" (ie, so young).
But sheesh, once you meet the right person, you meet the right person. Siigh. Oh, well, at least we've known each other for over two years and visited many many times!

I would like to take my wife on a 7 day cruise in the Caribbean for our wedding anniversary. We are planning on having her N-400 mailed out on July 1st which is our 3 year wedding anniversary and 79 days early. The entire thing is filled out and all the copies and documents are in the package waiting to be mailed.



I am not sure I understand whether this will have an effect on her application.
Since she arrived here in May 2006 we have traveled out of the country as follows:
12/12/2006-1/4/2007 = 22 days
7/1/07-7/2/07= 2 days
12/4/07-1/14/08 = 22 days
11/3/08-12/31/08 = 59 days
The total is 105 days.
Are there any rules about not being able to travel after your package is submitted? Is there anything else I should be thinking about or concerned about.

How many Naturalization Test Answers do you have to give? How many do you have to know for each question? Some of them seem to mean the same thing.
OK the easy questions are the ones with one answer. Who was the first president. George Washington I understand this type of question.
The Name " one" or "two " questions i also understand.Name two national holidays. Presidents day and labor day. I understand this type of question.

I told my wife she only needed to learn one answer to this type of question.
Why does the flag have 50 stars?
Because there are 50 states.
Because each star represents a state.
because there is one star for each state.

Do you have to be able to repeat each one? Can't you just learn"because there is one star for each state"Also look at " What did Susan B Anthony do? and What did the Emancipation Proclamation do?
Do you have to be able to repeat each of the answers instead of just one for each?

I just got a new job. We have to move to EL Paso Texas on the 19Th. My wifes interview is here on the 15th so no problem with that.
After she passes the interview Can she request to take the Oath Ceremony in Albuquerque NM. It is only 3.5 hours from El Paso. San Antonio and Dallas are 7.5 hours and 9.5 hours away from El Paso.
Can anyone verify that they take Oaths every month in Albuquerque NM. I read that the procedure in Albuquerque NM was that you had to request the Oath in writing prior to taking it. So does that mean two trips to Albuquerque NM?
Where can you find this information?

We received two letters yesterday first says that the interview will be rescheduled and the second day the interview is the 20th of October. This is a real bummer. We leave for El Paso TX for 9 weeks on Sunday. We are going today to see if they will still interview her. If not we are considering flying her back here of the interview or requesting a new location like Albuquerque NM which is close. Don't know how backed up Albuquerque is? We are really bumming!

We don't have the Biometrics letter yet! I have checked our case on the USCIS web site and it still shows the NOA as being the last action. I noticed during the I-751 application that our on-line information was sometimes behind reality. For example getting a letter before it is even listed on the web site.
Has any one noticed that happening with the N-400 application?

No, you can not call to setup the interview yet, but you also do not have to wait until she receives the package in the mail. First, read my post here. It takes the Embassy about a week from when they receive the petition to enter it into their system A few days after the package has been delivered, start calling them daily to see if it is in the system. The direct phone number to the consulate for K-1 visas is +380444904422 (call between 8:30 - 4:30 Kiev time and give them the KEV case #). Once they confirm you are on the system, she can call and schedule her interview. You can also call beforehand and purchase the required PIN code with your credit card ($12 for 8 minutes).

The information you received (probably from me) was specific to the Ukraine Embassy. They have replaced the Packet3 and Packet4 with a single "Information Packet". I would not recommend waiting for it to arrive to your Fiance, and the mail system in Ukraine is completely unreliable. Instead, you can download it directly from the Embassy, and begin preparing immediately. Download the package from here. You can also have your girl download them in Ukrainian from here. These files are executables (.exe) that will extract the documents when you run them (I promise... no viruses).

Hey folks, I am preparing evidence for my girl's interview. Since I got her set up with a laptop and Skype, we almost never email. Instead we chat daily through Instant Message (on Skype). So, I want to print out just the last couple weeks of the chat logs, as evidence of our ongoing relationship in lieu of emails. However, our communication has been strictly in Russian. Do you think it is necessary that I have these logs translated? And if so, must it be by an official translation service (with seal)?

Canadacanadian police certificate

I was told to bring two forms of ID(passport and something else with a picture) and something from the consulate stating that I needed a record search. When I offered the stuff from Montreal to the woman, she glanced at it and said "I've seen lots of those before!", and didn't take it from me.

I got mine(2 copies) for free from the London RCMP detachment, and it took about 10 minutes. I'm pretty sure your fiance can go to his local police department as long as they do a Canada wide search and that it says so on the "certificate"(I use this loosely as it's basically just a piece of paper).




damn. we are so frustrated.Help!!! We are really having a tough time. I started a new topic yesterday asking people about police certificates in Ontario and I got several really nice answers. My husband has no police record so we were told and have read now in two different places that he doesn't need fingerprints. RIGHT? So...as per guidance from you all (and we are really grateful for all the help) my husband went to the RCMP in New Market today near his place. They told him that they don't do that there and that he had to go to Ottawa. The guy seemed to think that he had to have fingerprints. Has anyone out there gone to RCMP locations in Ontario and just gotten the certificate without prints? If so which detachment did you go to? One person already told me London. Also what should my husband be calling it---a records search as opposed to a police certificate? It is so frustrating when you all tell me that you got yours so easily and the RCMP is saying they can't do it there. What are we doing wrong?


My fiance lives in Quebec but works in Ottawa and when he went for his, he had to do fingerprints and they did it all at the rcmp....We told them it was for a visa. This took almost 3 months to get back but we knew he was going to need it because we have a friend who just went through this whole process...So am not sure but my fiance first went to the police and they sent him to the rcmp...So I don't know what is right for you really.....

The Question asked in the DS-156 is as follows:

Have you ever been arrested or convicted for any offense or crime, even though subject of a pardon, amnesty or other similar legal action?

You were convicted of a crime.. you perfromed your sentence and upon perfroming the sentence, you were pardoned of the crime and the record of the crime was then expunged from your record.

Reading the above question and your situation, you must answer "Yes" and explain the crime. You must also bring a copy of your court records about the case and allow the Consulate to make the decision on whether or not a waiver is required.

The question is very, very clear... If you answer "No", you will have committed a misrepresentation.. and the penalties for that are far, far worse that the penalty for divulging the crime... Keep your eye on the prize.. getting to the US to be with your spouse... don't put that all at risk by trying to take a very risky (and illegal) short cut.

9 FAM 40.21(a) N3.2-1 Evidence of Conviction
(TL:VISA-46; 08-26-1991)
Official records generally suffice to establish the existence of a conviction. However, some convictions that would make INA 212(a)(2)(A)(i)(I) applicable are no longer a matter of record. It must be borne in mind that not all expungements or pardons serve to relieve the individual of the effects of the conviction for immigration purposes. Therefore, in cases where an expungement or pardon may have removed the record of conviction from official records, or where the accuracy of records is otherwise suspect, the consular officer may require any evidence relevant to the alien’s history which may appear necessary to determine the facts.


Hi, So if one gets an official report from the RCMP which shows the conviction and the punishment then this is official enough correct or does one also need a report from the local police in addition to the rcmp document which shows everything in a persons record?

1) The US considers a conditional discharge as a conviction... so if your crime fits the definition of a crime of moral turpitude, a waiver may be required of you.

2) I would apply for the fingerprint check now.... I think you're going to need it...


What crimes constitute moral turpitude? I know things like robbery, murder but what others constitute this does anyone know? And does a length of time past since any problems make any difference?

Hi all,

Faxed in the packet 3 checklist on Wednesday, October 25th. On Monday, October 30th, I emailed them to confirm that they received the fax and I also requested a random date for an interview. They emailed me back the same day and gave me the date I requested, Wednesday, November 22nd. How about that...should have asked for something sooner.



OK what is the email address? I guess I need to email them and ask when our interview is....Congrats to you! This is good news!!

Can someone give me information on Affidavit of Support forms, etc for Montreal. Do they use the I-134. Where can I get instructions for it? How do I know who's qualified to fill it out for me? Does it have to be the petitioner, what if he didn't make enough.


Jimmy, the affidavit will arrive when you get package 3 from Montreal I think. I can't remember because my fiance has mine in Quebec right now. But as for who can fill it out, if the petitioner does not make enough then he/she can get a co-supporter to help. There is a lot of information that is required to support someone but none of it is difficult to get. A person supporting you does not need to make alot of money, they just need to make the required minimum but I don't remember what that is. I know someone who brought her fiance here from Russia and she did not make enough so her mother filled out the affidavit. If I can find the website, I will send it to you but there is aplce that tells you how much a person has to make and what is required in order to sponsor someone. Does anyone else here know how he can find this out?
