CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview
WOO HOOO Congrats to everyone who got interviews!!! I thought they had given up on scheduling for the rest of December. That's awesome news!! Hopefully this means all the June people are all set and scheduled!!!

YAY!!! :D

J-

PS - I just looked at the spreadsheet, and it looks like some July people got dates in December too!!! That's even better. Maybe this is a sign, albeit small, that they are starting to dig out of their backlog just a little bit!

CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview

I just posted a review of our Nov. 12 interview in Montreal.

http://www.visajourn...le.php?id=71686

If you don't want to read the whole thing, here's a summary:

Dr. Sieden delayed my wife's medical results because of a chest x-ray abnormality, so we had to run around Toronto and get a CT scan. It turned out to be fine but without the results in time for the interview we are now stuck waiting for Montreal to process their huge backlog of mail before they can recieve the results, which could take weeks. DO YOUR MEDICAL EXAM EARLY! Better yet, get your own doctor to do a chest x-ray a year ahead, when you first apply. Then you can make sure this won't happen to you!

All else was straightforward. It was TOTALLY UNNECESSARY for us to go early at 6:30am as other people suggested. Maybe it was a slow day. We could have slept a bit more!

Jeremy

I'm sorry that the medical portion went so bad for you. :( Here's to hoping that they clear the mail backlog as soon as possible to speed up your process. Thanks for the advice regarding the medical. I'm trying to do things ahead of time for my husband as well. I've had him in to our doctor down here in the States to get all of his immunizations updated, titer tests, and whatever else he may needs. Now I think I'll bother him to get a chest x-ray ahead of time as well.

Good luck to you!

CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview

I was saying the same thing about an hour ago and so I just sent a request to Washington State Senator Patty Murray asking for help or information. Let's see if it does any good....I think an explanation is the least someone can do.

Good Luck! I hope that sometimes comes of it. I'm still shocked that it seems to have taken Montreal 3 months to get through one month. Not to mention it just pushes the rest of us back another month  . I really really hope that things will get better.

I hope you guys get your interview dates this week. The previous trend had me thinking we'd get our date next month (December) for a January interview, but since the June people got split between two months... January isn't looking so good anymore. :( .sigh. Trying to think happy thoughts.

Hey Everyone,

Just popping in to say Hi. I just added myself and my husband to the Montreal spreadsheet waiting list. From what I've seen I expect a long wait for the interview. Congrats to the people who got theirs this week! I don't expect our until around January time frame. Figured I'd get familiar with everyone else stuck on the Montreal waiting list. :)

CanadaJust for fun...when is the next time you're going "home" to Canada?
We were actually back in Montreal last weekend. Every year Jeff's family does the Cabin de Sucre and it's SO good. I brought my dad with us this year.

We're lucky enough to only live about 4.5 hours away from his family so I think going back for holidays and family stuff should be fairly easy. Although I think Jeff is actually just happy to get away from them and out on his own. :)

J-
Jill & JeffFemaleCanada2011-04-08 13:12:00
CanadaCanadians and different ways of thinking in the US
Jeff came here to New Hampshire from Montreal this past January. We have talked about the move on different occasions and he seems to be fitting in well here. I always try to "check in" from time to time to see if he's feeling any adjustment anxiety and it really doesn't seem to bother him. We are lucky to live about 4 hours away from Montreal so we are able to visit as often as we need to. I know that he is at a point in his life when he really wanted to get away from his family and be out on his own. I think that desire helps him to adjust better. He calls them from time to time and talks to them on MSN as well.

Some of things he does comment on is that we basically live in the middle of no where. You can't just walk to the corner store or get in the car and drive 5 minutes to grab something quick to eat. Everything is a bit of a project here and is at least 20 minutes to really get anywhere by car. He used to live outside of Montreal where everything was pretty centralized. It isn't really like that in NH at all. He also said it's a little weird adjusting to English all the time. He's perfectly fluent and doesn't have an accent at all. He does say sometimes he just expects people to start speaking French. He does miss French a little but overall he said it isn't too bad.

I think NH isn't too different from Canada as far as friendly people are concerned. Jeff is really great at adjusting and I think that getting a job right away has really helped to ease the transition. I know when he started looking for a job he was just out of his mind with boredom. I always tease him about being a sociopath and that's why he can adjust so easily and think that it isn't really a big deal. Another thing that sticks out for me is that in Canada I find families to live a lot closer together than in the US. Jeff's family was very close, everyone within a 45 minute drive of each other. Family is also more important too. Down here, my family is scattered all across the US from here in NH all the way out to Arizona. Because I rarely see some of them and we don't always spend family holidays together family is not as important to me as it is to Jeff. Whenever we visit his family, we have to make sure we see EVERYONE and that can take up a lot of time.

We do have a lot of conversations about the American way vs. the Canadian way. Some things are definitely different, some better some worse. I think if I had the opportunity I would want to move up to Montreal. I think if Jeff had the choice he'd probably want to stay down here. lol

Wow... I saw this thread and just laughed. WoW is where we met and now here we are immigrating. :) I actually met him when he was leading a pre made AV, and he yelled at me on ventrilo. Love at first holler I guess. :)

I don't play as much now, at least not until the new xpack comes out, but I do pop on from time to time.

CanadaNew Receipt Notice?

It is not a mistake... I got two letters in the mail for both my son and Myself. It is just confirming that they have received your poe documents use the Number at USCIS.com and you will probably see "case was processed on Jan 31st 2011 and you should receive your card within 30 days your card production was order Jan31st 2011" or On December 2, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this "OS155A IMMIGRANT VISA AND ALIEN REGISTRATION. Please follow any instructions on the notice" . Sarajane also got this letter. :)

I checked his receipt number on the USCIS website. The case status says, "Initial Review" and the explanation below says:

Your OS155A, IMMIGRANT VISA AND ALIEN REGISTRATION was accepted and is being processed at our TEXAS SERVICE CENTER location. On January 24, 2011, we mailed you a notice explaining this and describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or contact our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Is that normal as well?

CanadaNew Receipt Notice?

However The bio appointment must be a mistake unless his prints at poe didnt turn out right

They did not take his prints at POE. He said something about them already having them on file when they had to give him a "babysitting card" to enter the US to get married.

I'm going to have him call today to get more details, but that sounds ok to me.

Thanks so much for the help! I started to get a little panic-y thinking that our paperwork somehow got messed up.

CanadaNew Receipt Notice?
My husband's CR-1 visa was approved on January 7th, and he's already done a POE and we've received his SSN card. I was under the impression that we are done at this point. We're just waiting on his green card and the only thing we have to worry about from there is filing for removal of conditions.

The other day we received an I-797C Notice of Action. I really have no idea what this is for. It looks like the basic receipt notice we received when we filed our initial I-130 petition. It just confirms that USCIS received my application of petition as shown above. The case type listed above is Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration. Today we received another notification for an ASC Appointment Notice to take his biometrics. In the Case Type for the ASC Appointment Notice is says X999 Unknown Form Type.

Is this a normal part of the CR-1 process to get his green card? Or did they somehow make a mistake in sending these to us? I haven't seen anyone mention anything about biometrics appointments and receipt notices after their visa applications have been approved.

I'm worried the might have made a mistake with his paperwork. In any case, any feed back would be greatly welcomed. I'll probably have Jeff call them tomorrow to find out more about it.

CanadaThe Vent Part Quatre
My husbands SSN card came today.

They fracking screwed up his first name... his name is Jean-Francois, they wrote Jean Tremblay. Really? When I very obviously put JEAN-FRANCOIS as his first name. Idiots.

He's actually asked me about getting a name change from Jean-Francois to Jeff, only because he doesn't want to be called JEAN for the rest of his life.

I hate to just barge in the on the conversation, but I feel for you. Your mother-in-law is in the wrong and you shouldn't stress it. Some women just need to get over it.

It is times like that when I am happy that my in-laws don't speak English.

We are in the same boat, prepping for removal of conditions. Just print it out and mail it in. You'll get a acknowdgement in the mail.

Thank you...I will do that but there won't be enough time since my husbands green card expires 6/4/2009...What will that do if they don't see that I as the USC didn't change my address..I am just scared now that something will go wrong. We did everything right every step of the way until this...:-)

Hi,

We are getting ready to send in our 751 to remove conditions...I just saw someone say that the USC must also do a change of address when we moved. I am the USC but did not know I needed to do that so we did not...We completed the change of address for my husband but not me. Now what do I do and is this a show stopper for the remving of conditions?

Thanks,

I have a very interesting question for this forum, my husband is due to remove his condition on gc. So far I have put together most of this evidence. My question is as follow: is my husband suppose to take interest/part in helping me putting the evidence together or am I due to do it all and him just sit back and wait? I had quite an argument with him on the subject and his replied was "it is your country so it is your responsability to see that my condition is removed".
Am I loosing my mind or is he outright playing me?
Someone please share your experience in that department with me!

Thank you!

Dear Sister, I do feel for you! My husband pressured me so much about that, his card expires on March 5th 2008. He wanted the papers at the VSC on dec. 5th 2007..I said no because he was not taking part of putting the information together and I needed to wait til I had the money on hands..I ended up mailing the packet on Jan 2nd 2008 and the VSC received it on Jan 4th 2008..Now we are waiting..
However I encourage you to mail it in February in case they need further evidence.
Please take spiderette advise, she is a real encouragement to this forum and she seems to be very
knowledgeable and firm about her information.

i guess nobody understood my question.... my friend is already a US citizen (last year she got her naturalization) she is divorced now. My question is: if she gets married again within the next year would she be able to claim her new husband (which lives in USA but has an expired visa) or she has to wait longer to claim him... I don’t care if it looks good or bad... I just would like to know if anyone knows if it s 5 years from the date she was a legal resident or five years from the date she became a citizen...

Form I-130 says: whish it says 5 years from the green card, i just wanted to know if anyone knows this is certain to advised her.....

A period of five years has elapsed since you became a lawful permanent resident; or
You can establish by clear and convincing evidence that the prior marriage through which you gained your immigrant status was not entered into for the purpose of evading any provision of the immigration laws; or
Your prior marriage through which you gained your immigrant status was terminated by the death of your former spouse.

Be good to yourself,

I am assuming you are filing form 1-751 removing condition, part 2, where it states basis for this petition(check one)
please check one that applies to your case, look at box d or box E. I am sure one applies to you.

Please read it carefully and have someone help you. Immigration agents/officers are used to this type of application.
This is merely an advice and I am not a lawyer. I am letting you know because of past experience.

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion1-797C, Notice of Action

kicking.gif kicking.gif

Hi Guys, I have not been here on this site for a long time. On January 30th, 2009 my husband finally received the notice from the Vermont Center stating the removal of conditional basis of lawful permanent residence.
Congratulation! your request for removal of the conditional to permanent has been approved..This is good news I wanted to share with you.
We filed last year sent documentation in January of 2008 and heard from the Center in December 2008 wanting more proofs, so we supplied with firmness and received the notice the first week of February2009..
However his extension of working and traveling has expired in January 2009. So now he can no longer work and travel until he gets his valid document (green card).

My question is: has any of you waited a long period of time before receiving your green card?

Today I have called the JFK Building in Boston (homeland security) and the person told me that it should be mailed within 30 days of being approved..

We are planning to go to Quebec City this weekend, I (wife)guess I will be going alone. No GC in the mail today.

See you all and good luck to all (us included) smiling! kicking.gif

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionevidence thoughts please
I think and know you will be fine. You have plenty of evidence and since your in-law provided a letter stating that both of you were living with him
that will suffice their needs.
As long as the letter from your bro-in-law is notarized, dated, with his name and address, date of birth, etc...it should all be fine..

My husband and I did not have any credit card together, or car loans, anything like that, just a share bank account, both names on the lease and a letter
from our lanlord, and trwo friends, notarized of course..
They just want to make sure that you have been physically together for that time...Do not be afraid it or fear, they are people just like you and I.
I was direct and firm in my letters to USCIS explaining why we did not have credit together, and withing a couple of days of receipt of our letter they approved my hubby's application.....

Be truthful and firm.......

Good luck! headbonk.gif

I came here to thank Katryn, Jasmine Lily and John for your great advice.

Last thursday we took an info pass at our immigration center we were able to get it for early Friday morning, explaining we had to travel to Canada, the officer was hesitating
to give him an extension, however with the notice of acceptance stating that my husband will get his green card she eventually gave him another extension for a year.
So we left about 30 minutes after the appointment and crossed the borders without problems...
The officer was able to tell us that his green card has not been mailed yet..She was not sure why, usually it's done withinh 30 days..

Thank you thank you and thank you for your input.....That is much better from the answer we got from the JFK in Boston Mass.....

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWaiting for 10 y.Green Card

Dear visa journey ppl.

My husband receive his NOA at end of January 09 to remove condition. he was approved it says a card will be sent within 60 days. However we needed to travel to Canada at the end of Feb.09, we had to take an infopass to go to our local immigration office, to make a long story short, the officer finally gave my husband a temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residency for one year and employment authorized til aug09(6mo). At the time the officer told us as soon as we received the actual 10 GC, you will have to destroy the temporary one. So be it, we were happy.
Now another month has gone by, no news about his green card, so yesterday we finally called the office in Boston, Ma (JFK BLdg). We were told that no green card has been made and that no card will be made until his temporary I-551 expired.
We have tried to explain that at our local office here in Manchester NH told us it was temporary and use it till the actual comes in the mail..
To no end, The Boston office said no card will be made until another year..
What is this about, can someone help or these immigration officers do know what they are talking about?
Or are we just simply confused?

Yours truly, and God bless

You will have another appointment for another fingerprint and photo.
