PhilippinesMy fiancee is having problems getting a Philippines passport
QUOTE (sweet angel @ Oct 6 2009, 11:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Could be ur fiancee is late registered??? Like me ( late registered ) when i was applying for my passport they gave me hard time obtaining so many supporting documents just to get my passport. Since i have my BC from NSO, i still need my BC records in my home town local registry. I submitted also babtismal cert, school records, voter's affidavit,2 valid ID's like voter's and SSS. whistling.gif

What do you mean by late registered? It does seem like they are giving her a hard time, perhaps because her Baptismal Certificate listed the wrong date of birth. However, she paid them a fee to "correct" the Baptismal Certificate and they claim they accepted it afterward.

Do you think they didn't accept her postal ID because her supporting document had a mistake?

USCIS Service CentersFinding out if your I-751 has been "touched"?

yes touch is the  Last Update Date.

God, if that's true, our I-751 hasn't been touched since 08/16/2012, 2 days after USCIS received it and almost a full year ago!

Since then, we have received an RFE, responded to it, and have been transferred from the VSC to the Newark, NJ Field Office, but still have no resolution. For some people, the "Last Update Date" does not seem to be updated regularly, and from what I've read on these forums, the online case status and e-mail and text updates are not reliable either.

USCIS Service CentersContact phone numbers or e-mail addresses at Newark, NJ Field Office?

We finally had our interview and we're approved! Thanks everyone for your advice and kind words! :)

Get infopass and talk to io and show potential proof that you won't be able to attend the interview and they will postpone it. You will be fine if you do that.

Went to Newark on Tuesday, and USCIS basically told us what we expected. They are extremely inconvenient and stubbornly inflexible.

With no way of calling or e-mailing the Newark Office, we had to travel 35 minutes in the middle of a weekday just to ask a general question about rescheduling our interview. The agent's first response was to say our only way to reschedule was by mail and that he couldn't tell us anything specific. When I asked if there's any way we could reschedule within a month of our original date, he chuckled and asked us how long we've already waited to get an interview scheduled, basically admitting how slow they are. He said we'd almost certainly be put at the end of the line. Since we'd already waited 4 months, we didn't feel like pushing it and decided not to bother. Apparently they are so slow and inefficient, it is almost unthinkable to change a meeting once it has been scheduled. Just getting one is a miracle. How foolish of us!

In summary, USCIS has repeatedly made it clear that we will meet on their terms and are at their mercy. Our taxpayer dollars and the excessive fees we've paid mean nothing. Any other company would not be allowed to operate like this, but this is a government agency.

Just remember that if you reschedule, they will give you the date that is available... so it could mean a whole new waiting....

Very true. We would have been put at the back of the line. NO THANKS!

Yeah, I resigned myself to the fact that there is no way of contacting them without scheduling an InfoPass and meeting them in person. How inconvenient! I really just have a simple question that can be answered in less than 5 minutes. If we can reschedule our interview for mid- to late October, we will take it, but if it will be November or later, we will keep it.

I'm not exactly thrilled about traveling to Newark. I hate that city!

Wow, I found a phone number on Yahoo's local city guide [(973) 848-7600], but it is a lengthy recording that basically directs you to other phone numbers. In order to talk to anyone there, you need to know their extension. :(

Need to do more searching...

USCIS Service CentersContact phone numbers or e-mail addresses at Newark, NJ Field Office?

Does anyone know of a way to contact the USCIS at the Newark, NJ Field Office by any other means than snail mail?

We might like to reschedule an interview to remove conditions on my wife's permanent residency, but not if there will be a much longer additional wait. I, the US citizen husband, am a grad student who is attending a 2-day NIH research conference whose 2nd day overlaps with the scheduled interview. Since I am supposed to meet with several labs to potentially find a job there and since there are several career workshops on the 2nd day, it would be really nice if I could stay at the conference the entire time instead of leaving after the 1st day and worrying about making the interview in New Jersey the next day. But we have also been waiting for this interview for what feels like forever (see related post here: http://www.visajourn...e/#entry6429883), and we just want the whole ROC process to be done soon.

Why couldn't the interview just have been scheduled for 1 more day later? :(

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionDid you have your affidavits notarized?

It is not a must. If it is a lot a hassle you dont need to pursue that option. Affidavits are important as additional evidence but not as important as other evidence you can present such as photos, joint bank accounts, bills, etc. the gamut of papers that are inherent to a relationship.

I sent an affidavit that was not notarized, and everything went just fine.

USCIS used to be real in to notarization, but they really don't care anymore, I think. I've never notarized anything I've ever sent them, and everything has been very smooth.

Thanks for the input, guys! I had a feeling this was the case, but it's nice to hear it from other members. Anyone else?

I was planning on including affidavits from my father and a coworker, but I really didn't want to inconvenience them by having them sign in front of a notary public.

  • Has anyone here successfully removed conditions with affidavits that weren't notarized?
  • How important do you think notarizing is?

Have you made an infopass appointment?  If not, I'd do that and get the stamp for your passport.

No. I called the NCSC and filed a service request on July 15. A week later we recieved a letter that said "Your petition/application is still pending consideration and has been relocated from the Vermont Service Center to the Newark Field Office for interviewing and processing. We regret that we are not able to give you a timeframe for when we will complete the review of your petition/application."

That's good advice about the InfoPass for the I-551 stamp.

Apart from what mithmeoi said (which you should do, because it's your only proof of legal status), anyone who hasn't heard in over 8-9 months is considered beyond normal processing times, therefore you should call them and ask to open a Service Request. I'm surprised you waited that long without contacting them for an update. Maybe they did send you an RFE or something and it got lost in the mail. I would call them asap to find out.

We filed the I-751 on August 12, 2012, received an RFE on March 25, 2013, responded on May 2, and filed a service request by phone with the NCSC on July 15. The letter we received was very vague as outlined above, with no timetable and with our case transferred to the Newark Field Office with no way of contacting them there. At this point, I want to find out a timetable and I am sick of waiting!

Here's a more detailed thread outlining this problem:

Processing time for ROC currently averages 4-6 months and it's the same for everyone.

What about those of us who have been waiting for almost exactly 1 year? Any advice for us?
