IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresLawyer advised to file Single, even though Married
From what I gathered from the IRS, once you are married, you can not file as single. The IRS told me to file out the tax form and apply for an ITIN with a W-7, when you send in the tax 1040. Your attorney is not fimiliar with the situation.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureswaiting to Do DCF in Bogota, Colombia
I am a retired American waiting to file DCF in Bogota Colombia. They tell me I have to live in Colombia 6 months to do this. Still think it will be faster then filing in the States. If I have to wait two months to file, is there anything I could be getting done in the mean time to file my I-130´s for wife and kids. I would like to have my children in school in America by August or Sept. (Not that my government really cares) I know I am being optomistic.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIV bill receipt retrival
I paid the I-V bill online in March 2009. I did not "save" it on my computer. I printed a copy. I do not have that copy any longer. The NVC will not let me into the online system. It tells me, there is not any more information on the case. I was wanting my wife to take a copy of the receipt marked PAID, for the interview at the Embassy, just to prove the visa was paid for. Anyone have any ideas ?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureshow to change wifes name after she arrives?
Just to let you know, most of us had to have the name changed later after arriving in USA. I tried to have my wifes passport changed in Colombia before we put in for the I-130 and after we were married a while. That required a new Colombian ID card and was told that could take up to a year. Some were able to do it , but very few. There are no set rules in Colombia. Just depends on who you talk to and what day. We will contact a consulate here in the states.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresage discrimination ?
The rest of the story is that the co-signer was leaving USA to live in a foreign country. I did not know this at the time. He was fed up with USA. Probably will never return.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresage discrimination ?
In resonse to those who were interested in the age discrimination at the Bogota Embassy. All they would put on the slip was We needed a co-signer. My wife had already received her visa. This was the second interview for my sons. It was very clear, I made $10,000 over the requirements. What they told my wife verbably, was I needed a co-signer because I was 60 years old. My wife contacted an old friend that was willing to co-sign. Within 10 days , new interview, co-signer, approved visas for my step-sons. There is more to the story, but I'll wait until my family is here before telling "the rest of the story".

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresage discrimination ?
Have a great job and make about $10,000 more then required for 4 persons. Not much in assets, but what the heck. CO told wife Because of my age, 63, wanted a co-signer. I was dumb founded. I guess that is why they would prefer not to have me at the interview. I would have went ballistic. Yes, Viet Nam Vet. Don't take ####### from anyone. Paid my dues already.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresage discrimination ?
My wife received her Visa in February. My stepsons had an interview the 17th and again the 22nd of July. At first I thought there was a problem with the income requirements. So I sent bank statements showing well over what was required for income. Still denied VISA. I was even going to send in 2009 taxes as soon as I filed in February if necessary. Now my wife tells me they are requiring a co-signer for my stepsons, because I am over 60. Anyone else have the same problem?

Presumed children would go to thier interview and pass. They were turned down first interview. Lost tickets. When children passed second interview, I bought new tickets. Never presume your loved ones will pass interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresliving in colombia while waiting for visa
hola,
Well versed on the visa pasport thing in Colombia. You get a stamp on your passport when you arrive in Colombia. Usually, 60 days. After you have been here 50 days, you go down to the DAS Office in Bogota(Cr 11 Y Cl 100 as I recall) They give you a banck account numer to deposit money into. You walk about 8 to 10 blocks West to the Bancafe and make a deposit of 68,800 Pesos (35 dollars) to the account, in you name. Take the receipt back and fill out a new one page form to stay. Takes about two hours total time. You can do this twice for a total of 180 days. Do not over stay. They charge you a hugh sum if you stay in Colombia too long. I got married in San Andres last week end, so now I can look forward to Colombia's paper work to stay here. Staying just long enough to get Rosa's visa. Now if everyone could just tell me where to start on that DCF.... Hope I have helped you. Retired Nebraskan, Colombian beauty, Eventually, Nebraska and then Florida bound. Elkfarmer

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow Much Do I Need To Make?
Hola, Maybe this is not the place for this, but need answers. Affidavit of support related. I am from Nebraska, retired and only make $17,700 a year. I think 18,000 is required to take my wife from Colombia to USA. Or $1500 per month. Another $1000 per month for her two children. I am a bit short of funds . Savings gone. I sold a motor home in USA before coming to Colombia for $10,000. ANY TAX PEOPLE OUT THERE ? If I pay tax on that Transaction , it should show enough income to at least take my wife to the USA, with out a co-sponser. My grown children in America will co-sponser if I need to. ( They are not exactly flush with funds either. Yes, we are poor folks !!! After we get to America, both Rosa and I will be getting jobs. Should be able to get her two boys with us, by 6 months. We have to send money back to Colombia for her boys support, as her ex husband does NOTHING ! Except drink. Any one have any answers here ? Thanks, Elkfarmer undefined

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresage diference?
In Colombia it is legal to marry at age 12 with parents permission. Consent age is 14. The farther from the city you get, the more you see age difference. A lot of times it is a financial necesity. Other times it is for love and it really shows. Gentlemen age 40-50 with a teenager you ask. Saw it many times in the mountain villages. My wife happens to be 24 years my junior. There are many state in America that allow marrige at 14 with parents permission. So I can not possibly see a problem in your situation. And I wish you a long an happy marriage. Enjoy life and let others think what they will.

There is 24 years difference between Rosa and I. It is heaven. We lived in Colombia for 6 months and you see age differences of 20-30 years constantly. Different culture then USA.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRelationship Problems due to Language
I married a Colombian lady that did not speak any English when we got married. Her father, mother, brothers and one son all spoke English. My wife can now speak some English after studying for a year off and on. We still just get on a computer and use Google traductor if we need to. If the love is there, it does not matter. Patience is a virtue. I was born without it, and am probably a typical American. We have now been married one year and I hope we are together by March. I know what you are going through.

If you Dad is willing to be a co-sponsor, then he can get tax transcripts or returns for last 3 years, and send in. Should not be a problem.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCo-Sponsor or not?
They can be real picky on the income, at the Embassy in Bogota. I am having trouble myself, even though i am showing them more then enough income. I was in Colombia most of last year, but still filed taxes. I will get a letter from my employer next and try that route. I could not get a co-sponsor, but the interviewer wanted me to find one. I wish you the best.

My ex-wife and her two children are now US citizens. My obligations on the I-864 are now over. How do I fill out a new I-864 for my fiancee'/daughter and qualify under poverty guidlines? It is required that you list all people you have previously sponsored.
