hmmm.. i don't know the answer, but as long as he had a prescription in english stating what he is taking that should be sufficent. I sure other travelers to the usa bring their prescription medications through customs without trouble as long as they had a prescription for it. Maybe there is information on it when going through customs somewhere, might have to google customs and find out.

By the way have a happy reunion!

On another note, I was reading in the ISL thread in off topic and correct me if i am wrong but they are not allowed to speak their own language there??? that's sad! I guess we are fortunate here that we don't have that problem and people want to learn their SO language. Maybe they need to make a thread in the regional forum.

My life update---- I was in a car accident! Two cars collided and BOTH spun into me. My poor 2003 Cavalier is in bad shape. :( Neither driver had a drivers license, and the one that was the 'contributing factor' had no insurance. So, now I have to get a rental car and get mine fixed. The entire driver's side is crunched.

I am ok, alhamdulillah, just shaken up. Besides that, nothin much here.

Jackie

Oh My Goodness! I am glad you are ok!!!! I was in a similar situation, the guy that caused the accident had to fix mine and the other person's car. It was just one of those situations where you just couldn't avoid it you basically just had to sit there and watch I was stopped at the intersection waiting for this car to go by when this other guy decided to run a stop sign....scary!

Anyways anyone start saving documents for lifting conditions? I thought every 6 months save some things like utility bills, phone bill, and etc..that way won't have too much paper work.

Other than that. Life's been good. We both are working and saving and enjoying our time together. Miss visiting Jordan though especially when I talk to my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. My mother-in-law always wants me to go visit and of course I wish I could. Maybe the end of Ramadan we might consider it.

Hope everyone else is doing great!

Ahlan

I want to welcome everyone going through the Middle East and Egypt!

This is the New Version of Yalla Middle East due to VJ software upgrade our Old Yalla Middle East is now closed and archived.

(version 2.0 can be found here: http://www.visajourn...?showtopic=907)

I made this new thread for all of us going through the Middle East Embassies including Egypt, and for people who are just starting their process. We don't have just one place where we can come and share our experiences. We are spread all over Vj, in Foreign Embassy, in DCF and others.

Feel free to share experiences, congratulate people, vent frustrations at the system, and life in general. Don't be afraid to be honest with your posts because 9 out 10 times someone is going to be there to help you, vent with you, be sad with you, and most of all be happy with you.

Angel (F)

For all you new people who wander in looking for information about the Embassy in Amman or the Embassy in Egypt or another place. Here are two links to the closed yalla middle east and anyone fighting the embassy in amman. There is a wealth of information in those two links about Jordan in particular. Also it was just a great thread for all us who are going through the immigration process.

I'm sad our old thread was closed because it was such a great place to come and vent or come and tell happy or sad news. If you ever get a chance to read them please do, or are bored and waiting for your interview or news from the embassies. You will see how all of us coped during this period in our lives and how we all gave each other emotional support.. It was like a lifetime movie: the drama, the humor, the sadness, the anger, the hope..the hopelessness... I can go on and on, but it’s best to read it yourself because that thread rocked!!!

Middle East and North AfricaConsulate Reviews for Amman

Thank you ladies so much for the responses....I thought the anxiety would die down a bit once we got our NOA2, but the next phase has just started lolol. We keep telling each other to expect the worse and not think about it but its hard lolol. We know the interviews can be a year out from receipt of our case - we even thought about requesting it be done in Istanbul (they are really fast and his mother lives there now - she's originally from there), but in the long run it could be even more delays. I am planning to be there when he interviews and if it doesn't go in our favor, we'll get married while I'm there and I'll eventually be relocating. I prefer to stay here though at least until my son is in college so for that reason we're trying.

I just hope he gets an interview for 2007 - but of course I'll keep you all posted.

thank you again.

Most of us went through the limbo stage where you don't know what is going on and no set interview date. That was the worst part being in limbo. I think I waited 3 months before I got an interview date which was two months in advance..but at least it was a date to look forward to :) My advice is keep yourself busy and don't let this immigration process mess with your relationship. I know it's difficult not to talk about it when you are chatting to each other, but it can take a toll on your relationship if you let it. I know I had a few slips sometimes, but my husband was always there making me feel better even though he was feeling the same way. Good luck and wishing you a speedy process!

Middle East and North AfricaConsulate Reviews for Amman

angelk, I think you covered all the bases for good ole' Amman! They are really hard to get ahold of via phone and yeah it is wayyyyyyy better for ur SO to call them BUT I had to call to get all of the numers written down so he would know the options to choose. He wasn't used to dealing with automated systems so even the arabic was confusing for him. They are really slow to process things so don't get too impatient with them. When they say 3 to 6 months, they mean 3 to 6 months and very seldom any sooner than that. Good luck.

Middle East and North AfricaConsulate Reviews for Amman
Hmmm a review of Amman

I did a CR1 through there. Start to finish took a year. On stateside it was quick. On Amman's side slow.
They do answer your emails rather quickly, but it might not be the response you want.
Be prepared to take all evidence of your relationship to the interview and be prepared because they may ask for more.
The interview can be done in arabic or english. IMO do it in the language you mostly communicate in.
K1 are different than K3 or Cr1 because on K3 and Cr1 they do security checks prior to interview and K1 after.
It can be difficult to get hold of the consulate on the phone. You may be on hold, so it's probably best if your husband calls.
for CR1 and K3's if you are the choice of agent. They will send you the packets and not your husband. (happen to me)
My husband had to go to the embassy and get his packet, not sure if they let you still do that. Seems like things have changed there.
Maybe JP can add some information she is the only one I know besides Reddaisy that did a K1 through Amman.

Angel

p.s there might be other things I am missing but I can't remember at the moment. :)

Middle East and North AfricaFor those who already have kids....sort of

I'm not talking about people who didn't discuss this. I'm talking about people who did discuss things and things changed. People change. Plain and simple. No matter one's religion, people become more deeply rooted in their value systems as they get older, as there are life changes such as marriage and children. For instance, I said I would never have children. I thought this about myself until a year ago. I spent 15 years not wanting children, totally happy without them, completely at peace with my choice. And then, there it was. Shocking, to say the least, but there it was, I wanted to have kids. We don't want the same things at age 25 that we do at 30. Or at 38 that we do at 30. Just like we can't guess now how exactly we'll parent a particular situation until it happens to us. We can talk it out forever, but nothing is truly revealed until you are in it.

Interesting thread!

Middle East and North AfricaOlder Wife Interview help

szsz if you still decide to continue with the K3 you can still add the additional information with it. Once your approved I 130 gets to the NVC they send you a letter what to send for further processing. You don't have to proceed with it until you pay the required fee. From what I read in my letters from NVC they will store it up to a year there. Also if you do continue with the K3 and the CR1 and they both arrive at the embassy the CR1 over takes the K3 but they have that I 129 petition there with your supporting evidence. From what my husband told me at the his interview even though we didn't proceed with the K3 they still had that file and all the evidence I sent with it and they did look at it, but this was in Jordan.

Normally processing time at the NVC for the I-864, DS-3032, and DS-230 is approximately 3 months. Then it takes about an additional 6 weeks after to get an interview in Morocco, putting the pojected interview date at about March of 2007.

Looking at the website they are working on petitions now with the priority date of March 20, 2006. If she was to file Monday, and lets say she gets a priority date of Oct. 13, 2006. Of course we know it wouldn't happen that fast, but just for examples sake. At the rate they are approving petitions this wouldn't be reviewed until May of 2007. After that they forward it to the NVC, that takes approximately 2 weeks. They hold it at the NVC for about a week and then forward it to the consulate, which will arrive about a week later. The consulate will schedule an appointment in a month from the date received. This will put the projected interview date at about July of 2007. By the time this approved petition gets to the consulate the interview for the CR1 would already be over.

Unless I am missing something here I still don't see the point of filing the I-29F. If there is something I haven't considered please let me know.

I agree with you about the K3/129. It should have been filed when the 1st NOA receipt was receieve for the 130. It's normally how you do a K3, but I think szsz still wants to address her concerns, but in that regard it's still her husband who has to go through the interview. Morocco is tough. I don't know if it's because so many women are applying for their fiances or husbands from there.

I am kind of glad i didn't find VJ until i was waiting for my 130 to be sent to Amman. I think after reading here I would be freaking and stressing out. :)

If you want to spend the extra money you still can send in the 129 with a copy of the approved 130 and in the 129 you can address your red flags. You still have a lot of time before your 130 gets through the NVC and on to the embassy in morocco. How fast your I 130 gets through the NVC depends on you and they always give you a time frame when documents are do. So if you want to wait for the K3 you can.

When you apply for a K3 you also apply for the CR1. Once you receive your 1st NOA for the I 130. You send a copy of that along with the I129 and supporting evidence to your appropiate office. Mine was sent to Chicago. I guess you bypassed that step or didn't know you were suppose to apply for a K3 that way????
Considering it takes a couple of months to send things to the NVC. Maybe you still can send in your I129 to apply for a K3 I don't know how fast it would get approved though. My I130 was approved way before the I129/K3 so i just went with the CR1 and glad I did i avoided that whole AOS that is done here in the states. Anyways good luck!

Middle East and North AfricaAnother Amman deal :)

The CR 1 is the better visa to come on! It is easier once you get here to get your SS# and for them to start work and to get a drivers liscense. there is only about 2 weeks of a waiting period for the SS# and green card. You will still have to do the lifting on conditons before the 2 years end. Which is another process but easier I think. I would also reccomend that he get an international drivers liscense there in jordan if he is able to before he comes. this will enable him to drive and get insurance here while he is learning to drive. Gives you time to learn how to drive in America. Also make sure he has an up to date Jordanian passport before he comes with time on it. That way no problems in traveling and having it expire. Hope this helps! Good Luck! Lisa

Agreed

My husband files taxes with me and has an ITIN. As far as I can tell, and ITIN allows him to work in the US the second he sets foot-- because it is a legal tax ID issued by the IRS and that number stays with you forever-- even after you get a SS#.

The international Driver's license is a good idea!

I think the ITIN can only be used for tax purpose and not for work authorization. As soon as your husband gets here he can apply for a SSN anyways and comes in no time along with the green card. Definitely have him get an International Drivers license esp. if he has to drive everywhere.

GOOD LUCK at Amman!! Hope to be sending some of these little dabka guys your way! Posted Image Posted Image

Middle East and North AfricaVISA IN HAND!!! EUREKA WE'VE STRUCK GOLD!!!!

I was up this morning at 2:00 AM feeding my one month old daughter and changing an explosive poopy diaper when my cell phone rang... Since Fadi is stil in Baghdad the first words out of my mouth were, "Are you OK??" All he said was, "I've got good news...I just got my Visa." HALLELUJA!! It only took 17 months!! Fu*king immigration. I still HATE the Amman embassy, but I am so happy that the VIsa journey (journey my ###, more like a trip through the third ring of HELL) is finally over. All we've got to do now is get him out of Iraq and on a plane bound for the red, white and blue. Thank you all for your continued support.
