That picture of Um Qais is exactly how it looks when you are looking over into Israel/Palestine and seeing Lake Tiberias/Sea of Galilee. It's an awesome view!

The Jordan Valley is also very beautiful.

The picture of the Jordan River is is nice too. My husband and Mother in Law wanted to take me sight seeing so we went on a picnic and we went sight seeing through the Jordan Valley and they wanted me to see the Jordan River, but as you know in that part of Jordan it's what separates Jordan and Israel/Palestine. We couldn't get very close to the river because you have the Jordanian army all long that route. Anyways it was kind of weird to see the Jordanian army with guns and machine guns on top of their Jeeps blocking access to the Jordan River.

Nice Pictures JP

Good Morning and Good Day.

My husband should be landing at Queen Alia Airport in about 30 minutes. Miss him lots. I'll be joining him in Jordan the 1st through the 9th of October, and we'll fly back together. I am starting to get excited haven't been there since 2005.

Gotta go to work.

Angel

hi angel! This place hasn't been the same w/o u! I miss our chats a lot! I wish we could get back to Jordan as a family!! I admit, I'm somewhat envious!

First I'll Answer Kelly's question smile.gif Yes, it's his first time back since coming here. Definitely will eat some sharwma and my mother in law's home cooking. Just dreading the long plane ride. Never flew on Royal Jordanian from here though. Hope it's a good flight. By the way your son and JP's daugther are cutie patooties.

Amal... Girl Get a plan in place and stick to it and soon you'll be taking your own trip back. I never went in October. My husband said the weather is nice over there now, but to still bring a somewhat heavy coat. I am happy he gets to spend the last part of Ramadan with his family. Right now he can't sleep and keeps calling smile.gif He said somethings have changed around Irbid but not much. I can't wait to go out at night and sit in the cafes and drink coffee and smoke argila oh and go shopping. It's all about the gold baby!!!! laughing.gif

I was reading about your medical issues. Make sure you get CBC and iron profile done on you. You probably need IV iron infusions.

Hope your vacation gets better! I remember my son not liking arabian food and still doesn't also remember sitting there and everyone was talking arabic and remembered what fun that was. The first time I was like cool they are talking arabic and I am in a foreign country. Second time I was like ok this is really fun to be sitting here not knowing what they were saying. hahahaha

So I am on my way to buying a house signed some papers today and my husband will go after work to sign his name so he can be the loan too. It's a 4 bedroom, 2 baths, eat in kitchen, dining room, living room, family room, laundry room, enclosed porch, and a 1 car garage. Has a huge back yard. Ready to be moved into with no fixing up. We are closing in the middle of december! So that's my good news!!

THANKS! Its kind of funny that now curiosity gets to him and now he only stays on the home computer a little while ...then he comes and sits next to me on the couch lol .. he's so cute sometimes

I remember when I first got my lap top. I wouldn't let my hubby touch it  I gave him my other computer so if he wanted to download a virus by accident(haha yeah) then it's his fault and my computer would be safe. Well now he'll rather come sit in front of my computer and the other computer he hardly uses. I told him you can use my computer but you can't download anything on to it.

My Koran in english finally came from Jordan arrived in the mail yesterday. When I opened it up to look at it it was the back of the book then I realized you have to read it from the back to front like an arabic book. Which reminds me everytime my husband reads a newspaper here he starts from the last page

My mother in law also sent me another Jordanian Dress very pretty, it's white with peach and brown embroidery. I also got two scarves which are both white and one has these pretty brown and peach embroidery flowers on it and the white one has fringes at the end. Very nice!!

My husband also got his 2 kilos of arab coffee so now he's a happy camper. His mother also sent him these miswak chewing sticks, apparently you chew on them and it's suppose to help with the oral hygiene and prevent dental caries.

My mother in law knows another person coming to the usa so she asked us if we needed anything else hmm not sure what else since we got a lot already. Maybe some more coffee.

Finally I am going back to 30 hours a week no more of this 40+ hours it was making me so tired and also i want to be devoting more time to being with my husband. I'd rather be making less money and being happy than overworked and tired, sure the extra money was nice but the last two weeks I worked 107 hours it made me exhausted.

I also bought an arabic for dummies book and an arabic computer language program. My koran in english is coming from Jordan this week so time to start educating myself.

Best Wishes for everyone!!!
Have a good ramadan and happy eid!!!

Thanks for the 'weather' advice! The first 3 trips were so hot his family followed me around with an electric fan. I can handle 'Chicago' hot' , but that 'Texas hot' is not for me. It will be a nice change to wear a sweater there.

Jackie

LOL my husband kept saying the West Bank was soooo hot in the summer. I kept trying to explain to him -- that's dry heat without any humidity -- a piece of cake compared to South Texas.

Now he knows what "subtropical" really means. Thank God for air conditioning !

Mine too. I kept telling him it's the same temp as in Irbid and he goes but it's different. He was trying to explain humidity I said you mean like water mixed with the air and he goes YES!

Nov-March are the winter months
If you are going to be there during the winter months and it's raining. take a lot of sweaters and a waterproof jacket. Oh yeah and when it rains since irbid and amman are built on hills. You'll have little rivers of water running down the streets so when you go to catch a taxi your shoes might get soaked. Popeyes and Pizza Hut and Mcdonalds are great places to hang out if you miss the warmness of your house :) MK described it right the cold is bone chilling.

I dont care for posting in the other topics so I will go ahead and fill everyone in since I do not post that much, and in Yalla ME...it is mostly my Jordan gals...

My new job started last week....I love it, and adore the kids I work with, my class is 8 months to 15 months so its tiresome, but so worth it.....I hope to keep this job, and as soon as i finish my degree, become a teacher there...Sofyan is at a new dealership sellin cars...Not happy though, He wishes to find steady money, that doesnt involve getting home at 10pm every night, and working 6 days a week...Hes tired, and sometimes feels he works for nothing...I hope and pray we find something soon for him....Im planning on going back to jordan in 2 months or so...anyone care to go with?? lol...I miss my in laws so much, and have some new nieces and nephews on the way, so Its about time for a visit...Other than that, same ol same ol....I took Sofyan to Brookfield Zoo yesterday, he had such a good time....he has never been to a zoo and was amazed at the animals...we always make jokes cause he says the zoo in jordan only has cats and dogs that are fed dead donkeys...lol...After the zoo we followed up with some Shish Tayouk at the oh so fabolous Al Basha in Palos Heights...My favorite spot....and now well...hes working, I spent the day cleaning up, and now Preparing some Mansaf....I hope everyone is well....

Kelly

Yeah i don't really like to post in other threads that much also
Glad your job is working out. Hopefully your SO can get a job with less hours and only 5 days.
I talked to Anmar about his job he took besides his main one. Well he quit that job at night, but after he seen his paycheck for that job he kind of likes the second job thing. Sooo now he went out and applied for this job from 5am to 9am in the morning part time. He hates be alone at home when i'm not there and would rather be working when i am. So hopefully he gets the job. We can leave to work about the same time and get home about that same time. Couldn't ask for anything better. I use to love mansaf, but after my husband made it and it made me sick. I'm laying off the mansaf until we get back to Jordan. Well what about Ramadan Kelly? are you participating or just observing? I just worried about the kind of food to make...oh well. Back to work! take care everyone! Oh by the way we have another person processing through Jordan. irahaymeh so lets give her a hello and a welcome I know she checks in here sometimes.

Blessed Ramadan.........we start with dates and water. Mohammed likes rice-y dishes like maglooba and mensaf.

Early in the morning we have toast and cream cheese. I need to eat more at this meal this year, any suggestions?

Jackie

Mine is already a bit worried about what he will do for Ramadan... He knows there are no other Muslims around for him to celebrate with and is showing a slight depression about it. He wants to go home for it but we just can't afford it :crying: I am going to do my best to make it a good Ramadan for him ... I don't know how well I'll do...Enshallah God will guide us thru it

Fresh fruit and yogurt. something filling and will help you make through the day.
Myself I am just worried about the meals I should make. I guess they can eat regular american food also, just have a lot of fresh veggies and fruit on hand. Oh well it's going to be a learning process...

Thanks Henia for the recipes

I just got back from another city. Had to get some CEUs(continuing education contact hours for nursing) whoopie. Oh well went shopping and went out to eat. I did miss my husband went to Old Navy and bought him a couple of shirts and of course bought me about 4 shirts and a pair of pants. Found some good sales thank god i get paid tomorrow

The site I joined was sure welcoming :) went and read some of the posts people left me. How nice!!! Feels good to educate people in ESRD about their diagnosis and give some information. Sometimes people in this situation feel overwhelmed at all the information thrown at them. I feel like posting in every thread but I better not get carried away :P

By the way it's going to be my first Ramadan with my husband here. He said he was going to start when Jordan starts, so if anyone has pointers about what to eat or drink when fasting is done for the day I would sure like to hear them. I am trying to get knowledgeable on the subject and what to feed him. :help:

angel...it doesn't get any better unless you talk to him about it.....they NEED to feel like they're in charge of something... otherwise, they feel incompitent... really, you just need to sit and talk to him about the situation, if you can afford for him to have only 1 job, explain the bills and say that this 2nd job isnt necessary and remind him how much happier he was before taking it on...... that's my advice :)

Thanks Amal :)
No sooner than i posted the telegraph called and wanted him to go into work because two people called in sick. It was his day off. He told them ok and then he called them back and said he was just too tired..sigh.
He did say he would only work there for a short time then transfer to the Walmart Distribution Center. The pay is higher and the work hours are 4 ten hours days or 3 twelve hours days. It's really better than working at the store. Not sure if they have a Distribution Center in Missouri but if they do and it's close by your town your husband can transfer over.. other than that nothing new. Can you believe August is almost over?? Where does the time go???

My husband got a night job from 11:30pm to 4:30am. I don't feel too happy about it because sometimes he has to work from 1pm to 10pm at his day job and when he gets home I am waking up and getting ready for work. Lately he's been feeling the strain from it, but I don't want to say to him quit. He really doesn't need a 2nd job. I feel he is try to make a salary like mine, but he's going to need a degree if he wants that. I hate to see him burning himself out. I told him I prefer if he just want to school part time and got a degree and that way he would be able to make want he wants, but I think he feels he needs to be the head of the household right now..ahhh arab men. I love my husband to death and feel what he is doing is admirable but not at the expense of making himself tired all the time. Oh well just wanted to vent!

I loved Jordan and I can't wait until until I can go back in March. I only got to visit a Mt. Niebo and the baptismal site which was such a spiritual experience.

The food was so great, at first my husband was afraid to introduce me to it as he was worried I wouldn't like it. I enjoyed it so much.

The people well they are all in a hurry and very pushy, kind of rude but I figured out quickly that is just how they are. So in line with that the driving is the same way, it was insane. I would not attemp driving there for no reason.

I had an experience with the salon as no one spoke or understood english and I don't speak or understand Arabic, so 5 hours later, which was 15 minutes before my wedding party started I was done. I have to say the end result I was very happy with. The running around trying to get married was crazy but we managed to accomplish it. I have a beef with the man that help us with the interpeting and filling out my forms. I told my husband I could do all the forms and he said that this man knows what he is doing and would only charge us 200jd, that was all fine and great but the forms he completed where outdated and not useable which we got two days before my departure. I was very upset and had to correct all the papers, I am not upset so much about the money it was that if I didn't know any better and trusted him I would have been delayed for a long time and very heart broken, I am worried about the one's who don't know any better file the wrong forms. Trust me I am dealing with this matter in a professional way and I am waiting to see3 if he is man enough to reply or if I am going to take up action against him even if it cost me money just so that no one else is done wrong.

I so enjoyed the shopping and look forward to shopping until my heart is content when I go back. This time I loaded up on the silver but next time it is all about the gold baby :D The purses, shoes and perfumes are also going to be on my must have list. I so enjoyed the late night shopping and being out in the coffee shops it was so cool. Walking in the streets it was such a different experience a night and I have never felt so at ease as I did when we where out.

Ok the bathrooms if some of them you can call that well thank God I had a western toliet in my hotel room, thanks to the ladies that prewarned me.

The silver is so cheap and the gold I bought and my husband bought for me was 21k :) i loved shopping at night and then going out to the cafes so much fun . I miss it a lot!!!!

hmmm.. i don't know the answer, but as long as he had a prescription in english stating what he is taking that should be sufficent. I sure other travelers to the usa bring their prescription medications through customs without trouble as long as they had a prescription for it. Maybe there is information on it when going through customs somewhere, might have to google customs and find out.

By the way have a happy reunion!

On another note, I was reading in the ISL thread in off topic and correct me if i am wrong but they are not allowed to speak their own language there??? that's sad! I guess we are fortunate here that we don't have that problem and people want to learn their SO language. Maybe they need to make a thread in the regional forum.
