I don't get this "planting seeds of doubt" idea. I mean, how much power does a person have over another? If the story is made up, does it really matter? If it's someone's true story then that's all it is. Anyone who takes this story and makes rash decisions based on it is either really out of their minds or was already looking for a reason to get out and now this is serving as their excuse.

4 real. If a story from some dubious stranger on the internet can make you doubt your own relationship, then you weren't too sure about it to begin with.

BINGO!!! You hit the Jackpot

no disrespect to ya MK but most women should know that already. But when you start doing it behind your spouse's back for whatever reason that is another story.

I am a bit confused by these posts about money and what everything thinks it says about their SO. IMO a MENA man who doesn;t support his family back home is a deadbeat, so not wanting to help the parents is a HUGE red flag. Why would a husband feel like he has to send money behind his wife's back unless she just doesn't understand the importance of this for him?

Pugsly- I think your fiance wanting to send money for his parents to go to Mecca is so honorable and it doesn;t even sound as if he was demanding it but asking if you would agree its a good idea.

By culture and by religous law, a Muslim man must support his familyI can't imagine as a wife I would not do whatever it takes to support his family too. Just as he would also support my family if it became necessary.

A woman who isn't rady to place parents and family first above the needs of the couple really should reconsider marrying into this culture.

WHAT???

Let me clarify just a bit. I am not saying the husband and wife need to sacrifie their lives to provide for the needs of the family. A husband is obligated to provide for his wife and she may choose to financially assist the family. BUT marriage in MENA is the marriage of two families, not just two people. Just because a MENA man lives int he US married to an american woman whom he nows provides for and is committed to, doesn mean he leaves his obligation to his parents behind.

Ask your husband how right or wrong I am.

Yes he feels this way. We send money. He also feels that I come first.

Right On

I was going to go to Macdonalds this morning but now after reading tikbj plea for money..sheesh I am unsure of what to do with my 5 dollars. Damn she put her children pictures on the site..tsk tsk tsk

I have to say, reading all of this this past week has made me think alot about my marriage and my life with my husband. At times, I think my husband really, truly loves me and other times, I think he's doing this marriage to support his family back home and get the green card. This morning, he woke up crabby. He hasn't been able to sleep all that well, waking up at odd hours. Maybe his conscious is not clear, like sending more money to Jordan behind my back. Anyway, I have this cross that's been special to me, left it on my bed board along with the rosary I bought in Jordan on my first visit. He said this morning, THROW IT OUT! GET RID OF IT! I said, what you think it's keeping you from sleeping? He looked at me and said, I'M NOT CHRISTIAN, THROW IT OUT!" I didn't throw it out, even though all is in my heart, figures don't mean anything to me, I just kept it there to ward off any evil thingys, I put it in a drawer. So, it seems as time goes by, he keeps changing. I told him, if you ask me to get rid of my dogs, it will be you I get rid of coz im not changing my entire life for you. Remember, we brought them here, and yes they left their families, awe! But, they didn't want us to really live there. So really, they benefited more than we did by coming to America.

Peace

Andrea

andrea sounds like you have some big doubts going on and from what i read faisal has been doing some shady things by sending money back to Jordan without your knowledge especially when i know how tight money is for you. I'll be on Yahoo later and try to catch up with you.

ah ha!!

I believe her ex and the father of her child is Palestinian.

I must of missed that chat. What's up with her palestinian bashing? did she get f*ed over by a palestinian or did her husband??

Yeah those were her exact words.

If my memory serves me all Palestinians are involved with the mob and/or Russian hookers and strippers. Oh and they own all the liquor stores.

Yes she seems to enjoy bashing people quite a bit. Pretty hypocritical of her to call other people bullies, dont you think? I guess a bully in her opinion is someone that won't let her spew venom about Arabs and Palestinians.

I was there and yes she said she was Berber.

There was a lot of Palestinian bashing going on that night, too. It was kinda sickening.

She isn't berber. Just loca.

She has claimed to be Berber in VJ chat. There were several MENA members in the chat room at that time that can confirm this.

Middle East and North AfricaAnd speaking of jealousy....

Palestine's history is far more reaching than any other Arab/MENA country, IMO. I mean the "Cradle of Civilization" is in their backyard for heaven sakes!

And to suggest that Palestinians are adding the "radical" element to MENA! Are you sure about that??? Last time I read about the spreading of radical Islamists (admittedly, I haven't check all of their passports), but I do believe they are from just about every other country in the MENA area. Not once have I ever agreed with the radical tactics of terrorists, because I believe there are better ways to voice opposition, yet Hamas and Hezbollah have done more for the basic needs of the people than any other country...including their own neighboring Arab countries! And as stated before this is really not the topic to get into this, but I will say, if you are going to bring up the spread of radicalization, don't forget to add how the U.S. Foreign Policy has been involved in sparking a good bit of the turmoil that is there today.

Actually Iraq is the cradle of civilization and the birth place of Abraham. But there are apparently no americans petitioning Iraqis at this time to pipe in. IRAQ .... the fertile crescent and the plain of mesopotamia is the cradle of civilization. As far as Hamas and Hezbollah being charitable organizations , I will bow out on that one. I would love to see the red crescent listed. I think that qualifies as a little more charitable than the previous two. Um.... I won't be getting dressed in c4 anytime soon, at least not this week. cheers

I just love it when a person true character comes out. Bravo!

Middle East and North AfricaAnd speaking of jealousy....

Wahrania your arguments are going around in circles.

In your very first post in this thread (the one that set off the entire debate here) you clearly state that you're talking about "Arabs":

I have been to Algeria 3 times and been around them pretty much non stop since 2001 and from what i have seen, the best thing to do is keep your identity, do not try to pal up to them and let them learn to like you. Be a part of things with arabs but dont copy them. they are very spiteful and you just have to deal with that. You are taking their man ( even if he is just using you for papers its stilla 5 year loss) and they have issues with it. It aint really jealousy, its resentment and hate.

You go on and on with a bunch of negative stereotypes about these "Arabs," especially the women.

But now, in your latest barrage of half-baked BS, you say:

Many people in Morocco and Algeria are NOT EVEN ARAB.

So which is it ? You keep wandering all over the map with your "arguments."

Now if you can get a few members here to consider you some kind of credible "authority," well you've done far better than should be expected. But the vast majority of members here -- people with extensive experience in ME/NA, just as you claim to have -- are telling you that you simply don't know what you're talking about. You present what you have admitted to be a single isolated personal experience as representative of an entire people. And you have become enraged that everyone doesn't agree with your ridiculous stereotyping.

Of course a lot of people are knowledgeable about other places -- DUH. But *you* obviously know next to nothing about Palestinians or their culture. Don't you realize that Gaza was administered by Egypt for decades, and these two peoples have interacted for thousands of years ??? Palestinians are quite familiar with Egyptian culture. And millions of Palestinians work and live all over the Middle East and North Africa, as well as in Europe, the U.S., and more. They are a quite cosmopolitan people -- probably the most cosmopolitan of all ME/NA people (due to the conflict there, and the massive numbers driven out.) The great majority of Palestinians have far more understanding of and experience with "other places" than you want to admit.

Now for a jordanian to come onto your post and hold her self as an expernt on mena culture is absurd.

Teehee. And *you're* an American who by your own account has been to Algeria and Morocco "3 times," yet you are holding *yourself* up as an expert. Do tell.

So here we have some jordanian ( god bless jordan) telling you married to a Moroccan Allousa with a Moroccan daughter that you dont not MENA culture? Well you dont know JORDANIAN CULTURE ( neither o i) but there is a good chance that you are pretty familiar with Moroccan because you have a baby with one and are married to one.

Silly silly woman. Allousa's husband is not Moroccan, he is PALESTINIAN. Not an EXILE but a REFUGEE living in Morocco. Ask her -- she will tell you he is NOT Moroccan. Of course he is experienced in Moroccan culture, as well as that of his own homeland. And her knowledge has come through actual experience in Morocco, not through some "symbiosis" of being married.

"Culture" is not passed through marriage, nor through the father's seed or the mother's umbilical cord. Simply getting married to a foreigner or bearing his child does not impart any inherent cultural sense or understanding, neither to the spouse nor the parent nor the baby. Culture is learned, not inherited.

But please DO keep posting. We are enjoying the entertainment.

Excellent post MK.

I am going to count myself among the lucky who only had positive experiences in the MIDDLE EAST/JORDAN. Also brings up a question I ask myself. If you had such a bad experience ie Jealousy/divorce among others dealing with middle eastern or north african men why would a person go back to marrying a ME/NA man a second time? Just thinking to myself about that question.

I wasn't a offended! Know why because it's true, most men who are able to marry in the middle east will stay in the middle east and marry their own nationality. I am Specifically talking about the middle east. I have no knowledge about how things are in North Africa. I didn't read anything about rejects I did see unmarriable due to financial situations.

Even tho I am not Muslim, happy Ramadan to everyone! I spent a good portion of my day with my mom helping her bathe for her dialysis tonight. This has been so good for her! With the dialysis she is feeling much better and has lost about 40 of the 80 pounds of excess water weight from CHF. Then got a call from my oldest son that he had fallen at school and needed to be picked up early. Hospital visit and x-rays confirmd a broke arm. I may not be a nurse, but I am sure getting enough practice lately. Maybe when I grow up I can be an RN. LOL
Reading all the recipe threads make me so hungry. Maybe my sons and I will have an Arabic feast the weekend coming up. They think it is such a real treat when mom really cooks.
Happy Birthday to all the birthday folks!! Not another year older but another year wiser.
