Anmar told me if he ever ate pork by mistake not to tell him. I forgot why but if someone eats it by mistake unknownly it's not his fault and therefore will be forgiven

I like how it says "Can you girls help?" and that Charles is the first to help out, however I think his translation is a little off.

Sorry I can't help!

Middle East and North AfricaLove defined by culture
Personally myself. I would be uncomfortable asking my sister in laws that question. Especially if they are arab they are not as willing to be very personal with you unless they really know you. So I can see why you got those responses. My own person experience I can see how my brother in law loves his wife and how my sister in law's husband loves her just by watching them interact with each other.

I think it's natural that your husband asks you if you want something. He's only being kind and trying to see to your needs. It's like my in laws they are always asking me if i need or want anything. My husband does it also and I do likewise. Remember you are newlyweds and you are in a foreign country. He wants to make sure you are safe and all your needs are met. I don't konw about other arab countries but Jordan is really big on hospitality but in the same time they are very private people. He also maybe shy to show affection to you or the way you want it. Remember arab men are very proud and strong men, they don't like to show signs of weakness in front of others. You just have to show patience and realize that maybe he really doesn't know how to show his affection yet.

Middle East and North AfricaPregnancy Test Question

Before my missed period (one week before) I tested and got a negative (one line, Henia, one line). I just KNEW I was pregnant but thought "maybe I'm not". I was dizzy all the time and was having morning sickness (which 4 months later it just went away ... ). Anyways on the day of my missed period Ali and I went in the bathroom (my whole family was at my house) and I tested. I was still cleaning up when Ali goes "What does 2 lines mean?" I said " AL HAMDULLAH !! We are pregnant !" We both started to cry.

My point is maybe you are testing too soon and getting weird results ??

LB is right you might be testing too soon. My only symptom was tender breasts and my period was way too late but I thought I didn't ovulate so i wasn't too worried happened before. But I was shocked when it came back positive. :)

Hehe LB you crack me up 24/7

Middle East and North Africahoneymoon with the WHOLE family?
wait until your SO gets here and goes shopping with you. I am sure he will find you the ugliest clothes to wear

The only time I took a cold shower in Jordan was when I didn't know you had to turn the switch on for the electric water heater to come on. That was the fastest shower I ever had. As for the bathroom they had a regular american style bathroom but with the handheld water hose. when I first use the bathroom I was looking around for the TP but now luckily i had some and it didn't plug up the toliet, but I asked my husband where is the tissue i seen tissue in every room but the bathroom so he had his mother come in and show me how to use the water hose. I thought to myself damn they must think americans are unclean.

I only used a arab style bathroom once and that was when we were married and rented a house which had a regular style toliet and another bathroom with the hole in the ground with the handheld water hose. My husband was taking a shower and i need to go cuz we drank a lot of tea, so when you gotta go you gotta go. The only thing i was worried about was splashing myself  Like sarah says "Good Times" makes me laugh every time I think about little insignificant things that happen to me in Jordan. I take baby wipes to work and put them in the bathroom they go quickly because everyone uses them now.

I have a couple of drawers full of lingere some i never wore. I do have some palestinian and jordanian dresses now, but I never wear them. They are too pretty to wear so i just leave them in my closet and look at them. Give me some old navy soft cotton pj pants and a big shirt and i'm comfy. i am so use to wearing nursing scrubs that when i do wear regular clothes i feel restricted. My husband also dresses for comfort. First thing when he gets home from work is the shoes are off and off to the shower and just cotton shirt and cotton pj pants.

Middle East and North Africahoneymoon with the WHOLE family?

For those of you who visited your SO's before you were married, where did you sleep then? Did the family make you sleep in separate rooms? Just curious.

I used his room and he went upstairs to his brother's house the first time and the second time i visited he went next door to his sister's house. I stayed in his house with his mother :) I took my son with me when i went to get married and he rented a home for us so we can be comfortable and alone, but of course my son was there so really couldn't be alone. Anyways I went back for a real honeymoon and he rented a house so we can be alone, but everyday we went back to his house.

Middle East and North AfricaMarriage Protection & Recourse in Law and Faith
I had an islamic marriage and contract, and no I didn't let my husband decide or choose. I enter and asked for my own terms regarding it. I wasn't ignorant to the whole process of an islamic marriage. Even though I love my husband dearly I still wanted rights I was entitled to. Thanks to all arab friends I made over the years and had discussions with about what an islamic marriage entails. So I went into my marriage just like an arab women would. Is that a bad thing..no I wouldn't say so. Actually I basicallly got a marriage contract that was similar to my sister in law the only sister of my husband and his brothers. If my husband thought the contract was unreasonable he would have never married me and I would have not married him. We all have to remember once we are in the USA for instance in my state we have a no fault divorce law here, so if my husband and I ever wanted to divorce and we reside in the usa we follow the laws here and not in the country we married. Of course we can go to that country and try to enforce our contracts but if your husband has nothing there than basically it's a mute point.

ME/NA SLUMBER PARTIES ARE THE BEST !!!

I remember the one that was thrown for me. The other night Ali and I were lying in bed remembering the entire process, who supported us and who didn't. I told him one thing I will never forget is that a bunch of girls online who don't know me stayed up all night until I told them you got approved. It was the most awesome experience ever. I will again thank you girls for getting me through that night ::hugs::

Good luck JP .... can't wait to see you as a married woman and then you can get knocked up like the rest of us ;) Don't sit there and say you don't want kids now ... ya hear ?!? My baby needs a future bride or groom !!

Hmm never heard of a yellow paper, but we got a white paper for AP to bring back our after we were married evidence, and they didn't take his passport at that time also. So sounds good too me. They are probably doing some kind of check. Hopefully on the paper he got it will say what kind of check he got.

Middle East and North AfricaWho has made more adjustments?
I just remember another adjustment I had to make. It was concerning my physician who is male. I had to switched to his partner who is a female and my husband doctor is now my old physican. I had to go see an OB GYN but they are all males here. Once we seen the ob gyn and we talk to him and he answered all my husband's questions and respected my husband. He then was ok with me having a male doctor. What helped also was the ob gyn was the husband of our nurse practitioner in our clinic and he met her and he thought she was very nice.
AngelK96FemaleJordan2006-10-19 14:54:00
Middle East and North AfricaWho has made more adjustments?
Only thing we really adjusted to was the language. Sometimes I would speak english too fast or use slang words and he didn't understand. So speaking slowly and having to explain was the biggest adjustment because sometimes I would forget english was his second language. Another thing was sometimes I would get moody or sometimes get upset when he didn't do something the way i wanted. Finally he told me stop acting like princess..  So now our thing at work when we get mad at our husbands we tell each other to stop acting like princesses :)
