Middle East and North AfricaHenia, how's Algeria?

LOL @ tomato soup

Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll a lot of people love kanafa..... especially in Palestine and Jordan..... but I can only eat about 2 or 3 bites of it before I start feeling sick -- it's just tooooooooooooooooo rich.

When folks decide to "treat" us to it, my husband and I have a signal worked out -- I take a bite or 2 and exclaim how goooooooooooooood it is, and then I say "oh my God I am so fulllllllll" and he takes care of the rest of it. :P

with you there ..looks good to the eyes but ultra rich. I thought it tasted like Mozzarella with caramelized sugar or syrup on top. Took one bite first thing that came to my mind pizza without the crust with sugar on top. My husband asked me do you like it. I said it taste different and asked for more bedouin tea now that was yummy to drink. :)

it's a dessert !
about the recipes..every country is different so ask your SO what he likes or what the mean staple they eat at every meal. try making something simple but also introduce him to what you like also.

In Jordan they eat a lot of rice dishes. So first thing I learned how to do is make arabian rice.

My husband always watches me cook in amazement like i never knew how or something. He makes me nevous so i always kick him out of the kitchen. I guess he thought his mother was the only that can cook in the whole wide world :)

Wow, the last time I was here, there was only one page and the topic was still Henia. Do I see ppl here that were on the "The state of the ME/NA forum, a sad testament indeed" thread saying they didn't want to participate in such fracases anymore.

Just a reminder . . .

 haha i don't think people can change overnight or in this case a few hours. These incidents are just too fresh in people's minds. Happened yesterday and last week and the week before etc.

My opinion. I think Meriem try to do what she thought was best but just didn't work out that way. At least she was woman enough to come in and post and i am pretty sure she knew comments where going to be made. I agree this thread does need to be closed.

I am agreeing with both just waiting and lisa d. We don't know the story of what happen and I could care less, but If someone tells you something in confidence and you want to repeat it. Make sure you have the other's person's permission first. I know you thought you were doing the right thing meriem by trying to help but as you say it back fired.

Middle East and North Africawedding rings

Is the custom of both husband and wife wearing wedding rings the same in the Middle East as it is in the US?

My husband bought my ring(gold) and I bought his ring(silver) when we got engaged and had them engraved on the same day with my husband's name a heart and then my name and the date we got engaged. We both wore them on the right side while engaged and when we had our wedding party we each placed them on each other's left side.

Actually, I really like Rahma's suggestion of pinning a recipe thread. Maybe the Welcome thread can stay unpinned.....its a great thread and all, but we do tend to dedicate whole threads to each reunion (especially long-coming ones), which I think is even more special. Just a thought.

I found the welcome thread helpful while going through AOS, but I suppose nothing in it is really MENA specific.

Maybe unpinning the Yallah thread, as that will probably stay alive on its own???
*hides*

you better hide :bonk:
 I asked ewok to unpin it before but as you can see it's still there and besides it's not longer up to me it's up to the other members who use it. Like the Jordan Posse.

I seen a lot of newbies but they don't post "maybe" if they seen them at the top of the pages it would be the first thing they look at and want their names added. Hopefully they'll see someone from the country their SO is processing through and contact them if they are still around or post a topic. I knqw a few people have msged me about Amman Jordan and glad I was able to answer a few questions.

Middle East and North Africa(Elhamdullah) finally married to hbib

some of you can blame me for the dissent here within mena, that's all fine and wonderful. however, i'm not the one telling secrets between mena members am i? IMO trying to blame any problems on "outsiders" is just shifting the blame and removes the requirement of each member from owning up to their share of the blame pie. i don't cause shannon to bicker with icey. type2 does not cause icey to bicker with shannon, and so on and so forth. got the picture yet? so you can either continue to blame the "outsiders" or you can take a long hard look at your own interactions with other mena members, which IMO is the root cause of this latest round of drama.

i come to mena not just for the drama, unlike some other vj members. i've got quite a bit of respect for a few of it's members, primarily szsz and jmagayreh, and i've learned a few things about islam along the way. as for why mena is so interesting to "outsiders" perhaps the drama within its members causes that. no one can wreck mena but yourselves.........think about that.

i'm sure a few of you will barf that i've mentioned szsz as being worthy of respect. and you'll continue to blame me and other "outsiders" for the problems within mena. so be it. my advice: before you go off on a rampage at another mena member about some slight, real or imagined, consider how it looks to someone who is not muslim - it certainly does not reflect positively on the image of islam.

Madame, your so called concerns with my deen or me should have addressed in private... not made into a public war-zone slander... and a Muslime would not assume anything on her status but ask in the right moment in private.

I assumed nothing, Madame, and no one has so far shown that I had. But why ask in private? An honorable Muslima can be asked in public, for her answer will not shame her.

And I was not in the chat Madame, I have been in that chatroom once and once only when I first joined VJ. I donnot have a habit to backbite, slander or gossip Madame. I also donnot have a habit of calling people false Muslime (or whatever wording you use) or attacking people's marriages. I leave the judgments to Allah(swt)

I am a Muslima who believes in enjoining the good and rejecting the haram, as I have been instructed by Allah to do. So, do not try to hem me as judgemental; I did not condemn anyone to hell, Madame, as that is His domain, but I am as judgmental as His commandments allow without apology.

I am here on VJ for the sole purpose of the n400 and I wanted to share my great news with everyone...but donnot worry Madame even with all your trying, my mood is not ruined nor is my faith.

I did not seek to ruin your faith, Madame. I sought only to strengthen the knowlege of others. I said before here that it was not about you, and that is what I meant. Do not allow your ego nor the whisperings of others misguide you that I intended otherwise.
Have a nice life!

Middle East and North AfricaThe state of the ME/NA forum

I agree 100%..I have done my best to try to keep the peace in some of the "gripe-fest" threads and there's just no doing it. I am only staying to help those who need the help. I came to VJ when all was right with all and we talked about the process and helped others with their upcoming processes. This place used to be my only place to vent and ask for advice and now no matter what is said, it just gets flamed (except by the few girls/guys who are decent and you know who you are) I want to say that ...to anybody I've extended my email to or yahoo id to, I was serious when i gave those to you...I want to be able to talk to ppl who can actually have a conversation and a decent debate without being nasty. :) If u happened to delete my email...i'll give it to you again, just ask.... that's my 2 cents worth...

I hope we can learn how to have decent debates between us and realize that everything we say here is a reflection on Islam (since most ppl associate Islam with the Middle East) We're not setting a very good example by arguing like this..... I'm just sick... :crying: :(

edited to say...even i got caught up in the hooplah at one time...but had to step back and realize what example i'm setting........
ok..i'm done now

here's a question

How important is an registered islamic marriage to some of you?

This moring my husband was talking to his cousin who's a lawyer in Jordan about not registering a marriage with the islamic court or gov't. He didn't offer a leeway time about registering it, but if you wanted to go register the marriage way after the fact. He told us you will be fined and will have to do an islamic marriage ceremony all over again, but that's in Jordan. I don't know about other islamic countries.

Well I learned that the prophet mohammed said that a time will come when the honest is called a liar and the person who tells the people about the truth and tries to show them the right and right faith that person will be called majnoon/crazy in other words will believe the liar and don't believe the honest.

Well, ok, angel. What did you learn? I'd like to hear it, please.

Ok, I know. Nevermind. Thx!

You know szsz from your previous postings. I can see that you are so against orfi marriages, but maybe you can explain to "me" why that is if you want to. I can see where you are coming from after talking with my husband, but maybe there is something else that I am not seeing or someone else is not seeing.

Here's a question szsz and nope i'm not muslim, but what's your opinion about these countries, say like egypt and morroco and algeria where it's so difficult for people to regisiter their islamic marriage. I know in Jordan you can register your islamic marriage the same day or the next, but it seems like for other islamic countries from what I read on here that it's difficult for a foreign person to register their marriages. Do you think people of the same nationality born in the same country have a difficult time registering their marriages to?
