PhilippinesMarried life is great
They are a lot of times flat out rude stares that show disgust. One time I saw a lady cover her mouth in disgust when she saw us together. Not that it's that bad all the time, but stuff like that has happened before. It's just not an easy thing for her to go from the open friendliness of the Philippines to the quiet, reserved and awkward indifference of the midwest.

PhilippinesMarried life is great
I've bee married to my beautiful Filipina wife for over a month now and I'm so happy that she got to the USA problem free. It was worth all the time, money and effort for her to get here.

But being in the midwest right now has its major downfall. I live in a town that is almost a third Hispanic/Mexican and there are no Filipinos here at all. When my wife and I are out in public we get so many rude stares that I can't believe, even from the Mexicans. My suspicion is that some people are just racist and too ignorant to realize she's not a Mexican in the first place. Anybody ever get that mix-up as well? I didn't realize the full extent of how narrow-minded dumb hicks are in rural communities in the midwest until I got married to a foreigner and started walking around with her in the grocery store.

I don't care what other people think, but after awhile it gets really discouraging and irritating. Her first impression of the USA was pretty much people acting in that way. I had to take her to a big city to show her how much nicer the people are in general. People think most small towns in the midwest are full of nice, heart-warming welcoming friendly folk and it's NOT TRUE! I've been all over the United States enough to know that. If you're an American man marrying a Filipina that's moving here...don't expect her to like small town midwest USA!

We want to not be treated like circus freaks walking around, or just a little respect. Doesn't everyone want that?

PhilippinesUSD-PHP Exchange Rate blues
It wasn't even that long ago(last summer) that we were getting 48 PHP to a USD. Does anyone else notice that when they send money via Western Union, Money Gram or Xoom that the exchange rate is always a peso lower per dollar than what it actually is? Lately the exchange rate has been 44 PHP to the USD but every time I send on those services it comes out to be about 43.3. What gives?

A weak US Dollar affects us all. I haven't seen any signs of it getting better, either.

Philippinesbooking her flight from manila
It's never a good idea to book the flight until the visa is in her hands. I know that you've been waiting forever already...a lot of us have been through this already. But trust me, you wouldn't want to spend 1000+ dollars on a nonrefundable ticket and have some sort of problem with the visa. Sometimes the visa arrives in a few days and sometimes a couple weeks. It's just wise to make sure she has the visa in hand and check for possible errors on the visa and make sure the packet you hand to the POE is not opened. Your patience will pay off ! =)

Philippines2010 Philippine Election predictions
I am a US born citizen and I don't know much of anything about Philippine politics, other than the fact that the Philippines has had a host of corrupt leaders in the past contributing to the poor state of their economy. I am just wondering what the major election issues are and which candidates are projected to be closest to the winner. Also who is the least corrupt one running?

PhilippinesMy wife came here via K-1 and now obtains Permanent Residence
I'm sure this has been asked before, but how could my wife become a dual citizen(Philippines/USA)? Is there any way for a US Permanent Resident Card holder to become a US citizen and still retain Philippine citizenship if she is just simply married to a US citizen?

Another thing I'm wondering is with the start of conditional permanent residence is it 3 or is it 5 years after that she can apply for US Citizenship?

PhilippinesThe next 29 hours.....
You'll make it through it! It's so hard during those waiting times. The months of waiting WILL pay off big time. I remember it being so hard waiting for my then fiance flying to Manila and doing the medical, the interview and the CFO. I will never forget when she called me after the interview. Immediately I knew she got approved by the sound of her voice...she didn't even need to say it. All these things you are going through will soon be a memory and you won't have to worry so much anymore. I didn't realize that this would happen, but waiting for my then fiance on her flight to arrive in the USA was far worse than waiting for her in Manila at the embassy. I didn't have any contact with her for over 24 hours. She was travelling by her self so I had reason to be worried and so was her family.

PhilippinesA big communication barrier
There is a big money saving loop-hole to skype though. You can set up the person in the Philippines' account on skype to be a US account and then put your card information in for $3.00/month unlimited US/Canada plan and the person in the Philippines can call any landline/cell phone in the US for nothing but the 3 dollars a month that you pay. The downside is that you still don't have the benefit of calling them, unless they are on skype that is.

I checked Globe's website and they have a 1 megabyte per second plan for 995 pesos a month. Is this sufficient in speed?

PhilippinesA big communication barrier
I just spoke to a user here about Magic Jack and he explained to me how it works. It's an excellent deal but I can't force my wife's family to pay their internet bill to use it. The globe internet account is a wonderful idea though. If I can pay it myself, then I can hook them up with Magic Jack.

PhilippinesA big communication barrier
My wife and I in the US cannot find any reasonably affordable way to talk to her family back in the Philippines. It seems everything is a rip off. I'm not willing to spend a bunch of money just to chat on the phone especially since we already have phone bills anyway. My localphone account, which acts like a calling card is 12 cents a minute, which is way too much. My original communication plan fell flat on the ground. I bought her family a netbook and set up their skype account for 3 dollars a month unlimited calling to the US and payed for them to have internet and phone. I found out later they stopped paying their internet bill so their service was cut off, so there's no use in trying that now. How can we call their cell phones and not get charged a fortune?

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussiondelayed application
QUOTE (Twomoles @ Jul 7 2009, 07:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Well, what was your case then I am interested?

It all sounds like from some fear mongering scary movie. I just thought we live in the century of reason...

I doubt that USCIS is interested in breaking down and splitting families which includes US citizens over five day delay.

And for now lawyer does not make much sense, because his hands will be short too. He does not have much of authority at this point, so for now I have to wait and see response from USCIS, if I will get in trouble, I will have to face judge, I will hire a good one.
If I will have to go through all the process again, well, my bad.
Now I am trying to read into all I can find, and in other sites I fond references to the so called 60day grace period as well.

IN addition, I am still in the USCIS stage, there is a lot what can be done until there is ruling that would involve Immigration police, until it comes to necessity for law reinforcement, and it would be such a waste of taxpayers money, to set up all that, I am really not so important, and I do not have any doubtful records in the past. And there has to be ruling before reinforcement, and there will be action required from me. So immigration police is really the last stage, and I am pretty sure I will hear from them before they will do anything.

Seems 60 days before they actually move to make action (legal one, not chopping off hands and inquisition) and assume that applicant have ignored the law. In addition, if I do not receive answer from USCIS, during this 60 day period I can resend my package.

We were in AOS ( about 4-5 months in) recieved EAD Bometrics, just waiting on interview....NEVER got one soon as ICE came they quickly send to immgration to deny all petitions) they word things to make it sound like he was a terrorist and low life fraud ,u name it they word it to scare the judge to freeze any chance of hope ... NO PETITION === NO HOPE......
WE AND OTHERS got NOOOOOOOOOO nice little letter to inform u they will be paying a visit( DONT PUT THE TEA ON ) if it is simple case they may give u a letter of voluntary departure as a friend recieved... but once again if u dont leave and report to to ur home countrtyof ur arrival U R on the ICE LIST AGAIN>>>>>>>>plus a lifetime ban...
.....they are hateful ppl they scared the ####### out of me at my home without regards to me at all .
Then ICE came to his work looking for someone else of interest( somekind of marriage ring) they informed my Ex he could be a willing participant to set up a secret meeting to catch this person(& recieve greencard ASAP or they could make life he!! for him and refuse all petitions IE green card etc.... Well he choose not to help (WRONG ) and they made life HE!! just like they said...... they went into his past(that day(ICE came that night) and seen he was married before and divorced quite quickly cos the girl was not who he though she was ... he register after 9/11 and was never deported so he assumed he was good to go then we met and we married (a couple of years later) .... BUt he was out of status of a school visa....!!!!
come to find out the woman he was married to was in a marriage scam operation a year or so after thier divorce ( she was married to 7 men at the same time BLAH BLAH)...anyway long story short they tried to say he commited marriage fraud to her and overstaying a school visa.... THIS IS why u need a very good ATTORNEY.... they try to put charges on you that unfounded .. OUR attorney was ale to get those charges dropped . hoever due the AOS getting denied cos of the harsh charges I had no standing to keep him here.... thence he had a 10 ban for being deported for out of status... Appelas r not even worth the paper they are wrote on....if u r deported ur appeal goes in the dark spaces of no where... if u continue to fight deportation ( which he could not stand 1 more day there so we gave up and choose to go home to Morocco) as long as ur case stays in USA u may have a 2 year wait in detention( give or take a year).....

we are divorced now almost 2 years ..... but the memories are as clear as if they were yesterday...

I am sure you will get the 60 day wavier everyone is talking about... I just wanted u to have a clear view of ICE.... they have NO heart and dont care about ur spouse or anything but removing the person of interest....... I had no rights even as USA born and raised here.......
Our case was also from a country of interest..... so it played a big part of the drama....

QUOTE (Twomoles @ Jul 7 2009, 12:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I am not minimizing the importance, I know it is late, I have red instructions, package was shipped today. I know we were dragging our feet and that USCIS also does not care about finances.
I know I am now a subject of deportation, I just suppose there is interview and judge first, some action and response along that, before somebody physically drags me to the airport in sly trap excused with interview, if that really happens. And I have taxes and loans to pay back.
I would appreciate if somebody knows some real cases or information, I was looking and could not find a topic here about filling this application delayed.
However, thank you for your replies. smile.gif

I know from experience they ICE will come directly to ur home of ur US citizen spouse and strip u from your home and place u in a city jail(for owever long they choose too.)( with NO visitation) then to a dention center , wait days for a hearing , then if ur lucky at that point get delays to stop deportation, however staying in the detention centers are not easy( few visits 1 time weekly for 1-2 hours if No one else takes ur visit time). My ex husband had to stay for 4 months and they still deported him. THEY will deport the detanees at thier will, U will not know when or either will ur spouse.. U will only get to make a call 1 hour prior to being wisked away to the airport with out knowing airlines or otherswise.. They will if time permiting allow ur spouse to bring u 1 piece of luggage weighing 40 lb only and NO carry on... They have NO heart for the most part... But it is their job I guess.

However in our case we happened to have a very reasonable detention officer that felt my ex was getting the wrong deal and help me tremondously , gave us details of everything also due to the fact was traveling directly behind him and I did not want to arrive to early to his country...
THEY DONT CARE ABOUT TAXES you leave behind or ur debt ... I was left with his debt as his spouse at the time.... !!
I did learn some tips but I should not dicuss them openly... GET A LAWYER A VERY GOOD ONE>> I had one of the best in LA and it still happened to us.. But they will still protect you as a HUMAN BEING!!! even though u have NO rights as a USC..
I dont mean to sharing a harsh story as I hate remembering it anyways..... BUT DONT PLAY with these people, they come out of the wood work and from no where....Ur job, just driving , they know about you than u would even consider.....

Our situation was not due to the same as urs but still ICE is ICE.... same rules apply to anyone out of status and NO ground to stand on...

Bless you and ur spouse and I hope all goes in your favor ....
Good luck.....

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Same at my wife's oath ceremony, she didn't have to know anything, but good to sit when all sat, good to stand, when all stood, move your lips when everyone else is moving theirs. Can say thank you when handed your certificate, but can't help but to smile.

We use to say the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of every school day, guess they don't do that anymore in schools. Maybe because President Eisenhower convinced congress to add two word to the Pledge when they thought this country was undergoing a threat of communism. They added "under God" to it, not suppose to use that God word in schools anymore.

They still say the Pledge of Allegiance here in this Nebraska town not sure about High School, but Middle and Grade School they do.

US Citizenship General DiscussionYesterday's Interview and Oath Ceremony
Finally getting around to posting my husband's Interview yesterday in Omaha, Nebraska
We arrived around 8:30am, and sat in the waiting area for about 30 minutes or so.
There were a few people ahead of him. They finally called his name. I would say he was in there less than 30 minutes.

They asked his name, DOB,where he was born, how long he lived in (town we lived in), martial status, where he worked, and what my name was. They didn't ask for any documentation he took with him. He did mentioned his file was big smile.gif
She also said they made a mistake and put his date of birth as the day he entered the usa, but she fixed it.

The questions they asked him.
Name 2 US holidays? July 4th and Thanksgiving
Who was the first president? George Washingtone
Who is the governer of your state? Dave Heinman
What is one promise you make you when become a US citizen? To Defend the Constitution and Laws of the US
Name one of the longest rivers in the USA? Missouri
Where is the Statue Of Liberty Located? New York Harbor

He had to read who lives in the White House?
He wrote. The President lives in the White House.

He answered all his 6 questions correct.

She then told him he passed his interview and wanted to know if he wanted to change his name. He said no. She told him the next big oath ceremony was in November or he can come back later at 2:45pm and get sworn in. He chose to get sworn in that day.

The oath ceremony was small about 20 people and was very quick. We got to take our cameras in and take pictures. They did say they can make a copy of their Naturalization Document before sending for a passport in case it gets lost because it cost a lot to replace it.

Pretty short interview and oath ceremony yesterday. The 4 hour drive home was long...

Congratulations to all the New Citizens.

Sending our I-751 on 11\13\2007 to Nebraska Service Center. Still assembling our evidence and waiting for our letters from friends and family. Best wishes to everyone!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCopy of IRS Transcripts vs Copy of H&R Block E filing
Thanks!!

I don't remember hearing the option to fax them to me. Just sending them by snail mail. I do have access to a fax machine. I need to call again and speak to a customer service person.

Thanks again!!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCopy of IRS Transcripts vs Copy of H&R Block E filing
We have our I-751 packet ready to be mailed, but my husband read on here that the IRS transcript is what we should send instead of a copy of our H & R Block E filing. We also have a copy of our refund check. Anyone have success just sending the Copy of the H & R block E filing? My husband wants to wait for the transcript which will take a week or more.

Thanks,

Angel
