United KingdomLondon Medical - Knightsbridge Doctors
Ian attended his medical at Bentinck Mansions on Monday, and this is what he had to say:

There were only about three other people there. I was in the building for, at most, an hour.

They will (in this order, probably):

1. Ignore any pre-filled forms you bring with you (they shredded mine I downloaded from the internet) and will give you exactly the same form but laid out slightly differently. It's the questionnaire on the IV15_medical site but in their format. Be sure you know your London case number.

2. They will take you off for an X-ray with a really nice guy, very chatty and friendly. He will probably put your x-ray up in front of you if, like me, they do the x-ray after the doctor's examination - for others I saw that they had not been able to do that. It looks like they want to have seen your x-ray has come out OK before you're allowed to leave the premises.

3. The doctor will come out and take you in for the medical. A few of the standard questions, allergies etc, and basically going through the questionnaire. She/he will then get you to take your shoes off, measure you and weigh you. They will then check your ears and throat (say ahhhhhhhhh) and check your armpits for growths in the lymph nodes (basically by poking you). You will also then get told to lie on the couch, strip off down to your underwear and then she/will ask if she can check your groin - this means they will poke your lower stomach and just above your hips. They will then ask if you you are circumcised and then ask if you mind pulling your underwear down and they will in about 5 seconds max say "cough, cough" (they do not touch you!) and then a quick glance for obvious signs of disease and then quickly say "ok that's fine" and turn away.

4. They will scribble lots of notes and then that's about it.

5. You then go out into the waiting room again for a few minutes. Then a nurse comes out - they all dress the same, no-one is in uniform or anything - and take you through to another room where they discuss what jabs you need. It's basically about 30 quid per jab and you will almost certainly need two jabs if you've had chickenpox, maybe three if not (I've had chickenpox and they marked my immunisation record "VH" where the bit for the compulsory jab was). The jab is one in each arm. They also take blood. The nurse is very efficient (mine was an Aussie) and you will not feel a thing. They warn you that one of the jabs might make you feel like #######.

The nurse did tell me I could have got the jabs on the NHS for free but I told her I'd rather they got done there and then so they get attached to my immigration records, so they did them. I note that she already had the bottles out ready so I'm assuming I'm not the only one to choose the "do it now" route.

All in all - seemed fine - they appear to knock off for lunch at midday because both the doctor and the x-ray guy went whilst I was standing on the steps of the surgery dodging the rain. Both said a cheery "bye bye" and smiled.

Total cost for me was £250 - I think this was £190 for the medical and £60 for the two jabs.

I hope this helps. Feel free to pass it on to anyone who could use the information.

Ian.

Like, Nich-Nick our passport photos were digital pics I cropped. As long as they are the correction dimensions and the face is photographed straight on, no background scenery, you're fine.

Okay well I will let Samantha know this and we will have a back-up plan in place in case they turn her away at the door - that way there wont be any confusion! Any idea how long the interview process generally takes? Mine is a 9am start - nice and early! Thanks for the reply.

Sam.

I read taking a book is a good idea! Good luck with your interview!

United KingdomConfused about what to send for my interview
QUOTE (watkinson @ Jun 6 2009, 05:11 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi all,

I am Mark and I am a Uk national with a forign fiancee in the USA. Grace (my fiancee) has petitioned succesfully for an NAO2 which rwe recieved on March 25th and I now have gathered all of my materials ready for the interview. However I am very confused as to what to send in, and what to bring along. If I understand correctly it is as follows:

A. Send completed forms DS 156 (signed), DS 156k (signed), DS 157 (signed), DS 230 (unsigned) to the Immigrant Visa Unit, 5 Upper Grosvenor Street, London W1A 2JB

B. Seperatly send the IV-15 form stating that I am ready for the interview

C. Go for my medical (Calling for an appointment on Monday)

D. Bring to interview:
Passport (old and new)
2x Visa sized photo
Medical Certificate
Police Certificate
My Birth Certificate + a copy to hand in
Her Berth certificate + 1 copy to hand over
Affedavid of support
2x Copy of I129F petition package:
I129F application copy
Proof of relationship
-photos
-plane ticket stubs + photocopies
-old & new passport with stamps/visa's from previous visits + photocopies
-confirmation in writing of intent to marry by Grace
-confirmation in writing of intent to marry by Myself
G325A by Grace
G325A by Me
Payment for Visa

1. Is this correct and completed? I originally thought I had to only send in the checklist and bring everything including the completed DS230, 156, 156k forms to the interview - I havd read much conflicting information on this!

2. Do I need any aditional evidence of the relationship etc at this point?

3. Will i require any further copies of everything. I read somewhere that you need 4 copies (1 for grace, 1 for me, 1 to send for NAO2 1 to take to interview) but Ive also heard people recommend having a fifth copy to hand over at the point of entry, is this necesary?

4. Do I need to make any aditional payment at the interview, and how much?

5. Should I be concered that the NAO2 expires on the 25th of July: thats less than 2 months from now?

6. Should I make copies of the DS 230, 156, 156k, 157 to take to the interview?

7. Have I made too many copes of anything? It all appears very excessive if you ask me!

Trying to squeese everything into one post, but Im sure there will be more to come.

Sorry if Im asking things whcih have been answered before I have read and re-read all of the guides and searched the forum for the past hour.

Thanks in advance for any aid. I love this web site and I dont see how we could have come so far without it!

QUOTE (gmjdmj @ Oct 11 2009, 10:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Ian and Lisa...Thank you so much for getting back to me. I have read all over this website that there were forms to be signed in front of the consulate. There is only one form, the DS-156K that states not to sign. The DS-230 Part1 has a place to sign as well as the DS-156. Does he need to sign those 2 forms and just wait to sign the DS-156k at the interview?

Thank you!

DS230-1: yes
DS230-2: no
DS156: yes
DS156K: no
DS157: nowhere to sign

On the DS-156, it asks on the on-line questionnaire the city the passport was issued in. There is not one listed. How is that to be answered. Alos, it asks how long do you intend on staying in the US. we have filed for a K-1. The answer is permanantly but I am not sure that is what we are to put. In the example forms, it doesn;t show that...

Are you in England, Scotland or Ireland? Ian put the capitol city where he lives. I don't think they'll look for much more than that.

It does show "permanently" in the DS-156 example form: http://www.visajourn...Form-DS-156.pdf (#26)

Have fun! Those forms can be a pain. Make sure you fill out ALL of DS230, except for the area where it says "DO NOT WRITE BELOW THE FOLLOWING LINE". The Embassy website says part 1 only, but Dyfed got a note asking him to fill out part 2, as well.
