hey guys havn't been bak to this site ever since i've been approved pending police clearance. This pending has not changed whatsoever. So in the past month, i have gone from people in Sri Lanka telling me the police clearance has been cancelled to having to apply again!!! This particular person asking for $1600 US dollars to get the clearance since it is urgent for us now. Come to find out he is trying to rip us off...we found someone else who has more influence in the police headquarters. Just found out today that the clearance has been stopped by the NIB!! National Investigation Bureau. WHY WHY WHY??? they say becoz too many people cam asking so tehy got suspicious. Of course loads of ppl would come and ask since my fiance's visa is expiredddd!!! oh man..the wedding is in November and i am scared he wont be here. These 3rd world countries suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. they take foreverrrrrrrr!!! i am so stressed....and losing more weight by the minute. I thought the interview was the scariest part. I've passed the interview its teh damn clearance that i've been waiting for since FEBRUARY!!!!! ahhhh...God help!!
crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif

Sorry about all the frustration with the Sri Lankan police certificate sad.gif
I hope that you can sort it out ASAP. What do you mean the NIB stopped the clearance? I don't think any one can stop you from getting a police clearance. Did you make definite plans for the wedding? I hope not, because with this whole immigration process, you never know when you are really done. Hope you get the clearance soon.
It doesn't look like London has gotten things back up to speed yet, and I really hope they do ASAP because we too are sick of waiting so long.

Referring to London embassy not sre if it is the case every where else but when you sent your packet 3 in while they are taking their time. there no way someone can trace packet 3 reception. it seems like until they made a decision there is no way to know or trace with the embassy whether or not the packet has effectively been delivered.
that puzzles a little bit

Why not call the Dept of State and ask them if packet 3's been received or if an interview date's been issued?

Once upon a time, someone in the UK thread made a list of what they took to the interview, whether it was original or a photocopy and what was actually looked at or not looked at in their particular interview. Cannot remember who it was, but I'm looking for that post.

Anyone remember?

I love that thing...Let me see if I can't find it again - Search for topics in the UK forum, and look for a topic about interview checklist, by mr and mrs and then go to page 6 where I ask about it and MARM finds it and there's a nice link.

Ah hah, there it is. smile.gif

[Edit: GASP! It didn't work...moment]

This is the "corrected" version, she overprepared. Also, it includes things to take for people using a cosponsor, so it's useful for several situations. smile.gif

Edit 2: OK, I think this link will work.

Well here's the news... I WAS APPROVED!

We're on such a nice high at the moment, it's incredible. I sat in the embassy worrying my head for no reason, got a fairly severe questioning from the consular officer who dealt with me, but barely anything about my arrest! She asked me to explain the circumstances surrounding it which I did and she told me it was okay and that I was approved! With a lovely smile I might add!

I will make sure I post a full review of what happened when I get a chance, busy night ahead of me I must say! I'd just like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has listened to me drone on here, and to all of you who helped me so much (I have to admit, it was down to VJ that I was the most well-prepared applicant the CO had seen today, such a nice thing for her to tell me!) So here's to the rest of my life in America smile.gif

Thanks again!

The Sam's.

In regards to not having a job in the US, I was a bit worried about that too - I enjoy going to work and making money etc, but then I realised, in England it's going to be cold(er) and wet(ter) than it is now and I really wouldn't want to be going to work anyway, so why not lap up the sunshine in Florida and wait for the documents to come through! Besides, being with my fiancé is much more important to me than anything here, probably good advice to think hard about your situation!

Sounds like a good plan... lapping up the sun. Maybe I'll quit my job when Ian shows up. No.. wait..

App-girl - I agree with the others. I don't see how anyone can get job offers without having evidence to meet I-9 requirements. Is there a reason you don't want to, or can't, move to the UK?

Good Morning!!

Just wanted to say congrats to Bob and Patricia!! Congrats also to JimandChristy and krystiandjon kicking.gif Well done to The Sams' on their medical approval!!

I will post a review of POW Detroit once I get my breath back, but it was pretty straight forward. I made sure I had plenty of time between landing in and flying out of Detroit again, so it was pretty stress free!

I waited in a line with about 6 people in front of me - 15 minute wait maximum. I did check to see if I should be in Line 37 as per some posts I've read re POE Detroit, but was directed to Line 31 - one of the normal visitor lines.

The Officer had a quick browse through my paperwork and then I was asked two questions. Where in the USA will you be living and when are you getting married? Then he did the fingerprint and retinal scan and I was done!! The whole experience took 20 minutes - including waiting time - WONDERFUL!! I got the "Welcome to America" as well, which was nice ....

Customs was straightforward too - apart from struggling with two enormous suitcases and my carry on luggage!!

All flights were through KLM/NWA and I couldn't fault them .....

I spent a long weekend in Rapid City SD, so I'm only just unpacking this morning. I hardly got my foot in the door on Thursday night and we were on the road again! His nephew's High School Graduation, Mount Rushmore and the Badlands were amazing though - so the rush was all worthwhile ....... biggrin.gif

Have a great week everyone ....

Moira x

Welcome to the US (and the Midwest)! I'm glad to hear the POE was so painless. How exciting!

Sounds right to me. The last time I had a few stops on an international flight (Berlin-London-Chicago) we had to check in a second time, but NOT handle luggage on the middle stop - Amsterdam for you. Be sure you confirm whether or not you have to make that extra step when you check in at London.

You are correct, Magpie. And what I think KLM/Northwest meant when they told you you wouldn't have to grab your luggage (I flew the same airline, btw wink.gif ) is that it would be checked thru to the U.S. from your U.K. starting point, hence not having to collect it in Amsterdam. Double check that though. But you absolutely WILL have to pick it up in Minneapolis, and re-check it onto the Anchorage flight. That much I can guarantee.

biggrin.gif Fantastic advice, guys -- thank you. Hopefully this will prevent me making a right prat of myself when I get to Minneapolis. I will be sure to heckle the poor check-in dude/dudette with questions to ensure that my luggage doesn't end up far from its intended destination.

Woohoo! A trip to Thorpe Park before I go seems in order...

That said: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Or that's what I should be squealing, but it simply hasn't sunk in yet, even looking at the ominous brown envelope with "EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES EMPLOYER" and "SURRENDER THIS TO AN IMMIGRATION OFFICER" on the front.

Magpie.

Have a good trip! How exciting!!

I just went Heathrow - Chicago - Omaha (Ian recently came Heathrow - Minneapolis - Omaha), and we had to recheck our bags at the first US stop. I think it's a US security thing. Get ready to take your shoes off again, too. smile.gif

Does anyone know what is in the ominous brown envelope, or does only immigration ever see what it is?

United KingdomQuestion reference healthcare and dentalcare

I am currently awaiting my Interview Date from the embassy having had my medical last Friday in London.

I have a couple of questions reference once I pass the interview and get married in the USA and I am applying for my AOS. Regarding my GP and Dental Care do I need anything from my doctor or dentist for insurance purposes etc to prove that I have previously had coverage from the NHS and therefore also have contact details if any medical records are required in the future?

All you really need is your 3025 form from your medical that shows your immunizations. You can find a sample in my profile pictures if you aren't sure what it looks like. This is needed for filing your AOS.

If you have medical or dental issues, you might want to bring records from your doctor or dentist to show your new doctor or dentist. Otherwise, I can't think of any reason you would need this information.

Good Luck!

If you've been "cautioned", that means you've not been charged, arrested or convicted of a crime, doesn't it?

My husband's certificate said "no trace" and he was never cautioned or anything else. Hopefully that helps.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusSelling flat in Belarus. How do you get money back to the US?

My wife is finishing the privatization of her flat in Belarus and already has a buyer. Her mom lives in her own flat so this one is no longer needed. I would appreciate any advice on how to bring/transfer this money back to the US, other than stuffing it in your socks. thanks.

My husband lives in the US but gets paid in the UK.    He has used XE for ages and it's very reliable.

Normally, you can expect a response from NVC in 2 weeks. I wrote to NVC frequently, as my petition had an extended layover of 34 days there.

NVC recognizes either your USCIS number and/or your NVC case number.

You should call NVC and ask them for your case number. It's what you'll use as a reference to DOS and the embassy from here on out.

When you call, ask which day it was shipped. Then have them confirm which embassy it was mailed to.

Then call the Dept of State (or the embassy, if you like) and ask them for status.

Good luck!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Wrong Country on my NVC reply

I posted this elsewhere by accident so apologies mods ...

We got our daughters Greencard application back this weekend from the NVC and they have a) listed my daughters country as Ireland not NORTHERN Ireland and b) have listed her embassy as Dublin.

Now, she sees herself as Irish so is happy enough AND she is receiving official US mail on her N Ireland address, but as this will create a problem when it comes to interview as Northern Ireland in under UK jurisdiction we will call them and she should go to London?

Does anyone know if this will cause a major hold up?

Ronan

Just however long it takes to transfer the paperwork from one embassy to the other. Did you call them yet?

Wait..you can do medical ahead of time? I thought you have to have the USEM approve you for that?

I was told that you can do the medical with just having the NVC case number. The only problem with having it done too far in advance is that it still needs to be valid when filing for AOS when that comes around, or you get to do it/pay for it all over again.

my noa2 was not revoked by nvc, or sent back to uscis. why i got that letter after telling me it was in AP i don't know, or the one saying it went to the consuulate is unclear,or the email from nvc saying it went back to csc.

the only trace anyone has of it is when it was sent out august 7th to Nvc. and that nvc got it a week later. now it has vanished into thin air.

DOS resolution specialist and visa specialist have contacted nvc and uscis, there is a service request..my congressman is calling every day as well as my fiance, and the lawyer.

i am sooo peeved right now. it's been a months since my Noa2.....

Me, too.. Did you ever get the "impatient woman"? I have a couple of times. She said, "This is still in AP" and I said, "Still?" lol She said, "Excuse me?" I said, "Is it common for K1's to be in AP for over 4 weeks" and she said (of course) "Yes".

Whatever.

Next time, I'm going to ask an obscure question to see what she will say.

Kimbear - Sounds like some paperwork fiasco instead of a denial for more complex reasons. I'm sure it'll be sorted soon. What a pain!

Sill in AP after 18 days. Getting dangerously close to upsetting travel and wedding plans now. mad.gif

Hopefully, you haven't bought tickets. When is your wedding planned for?

Ours was pencilled in for October 10, but I just cancelled our venue reservations (no charge) and asked the photographer we'd reserved to "stand by" for a new date.

It doesn't matter to us when we get married, though, because we're not having anything fancy... just him, me and my daughter, hopefully my family... anywhere, with anyone legally authorised to marry us.

Can't wait for the day. smile.gif

Scary and disappointing. Let us know what you find out. Someone has to give you a reason. It might be lawyer time.

Kimbear, thats situation is the weirdest i've ever heard of! Hopefully their processing will go fast...maybe its a bit of checking something here or there...as with the AP processing....the shortest time i've seen is like 4-7 days...and well we've seen whats been the longest...its like "oh lets do one here, and lets do another there" with us people, so stupid, they need to get on with things and get going but nooooooooooooooooo....its f#$%^ed up!
I'm so mad right now, i really am....so frustrated, i'm so not liking this process whatsoever.....

Still stuck. Day 30. Joy. blink.gif

I just found it as well. Stuck in AP since Aug 10th.

Well, yesterday, the day after I found this site and forum and made my initial post, I called the NVC for my once a week check, and they told me they had sent the file to the USE - Manila on Aug. 19. According to the date calculation information Ian and Lisa provided (thank you!), the NVC received my file on July 23. This suggests a turnaround time of a little under a month. Now on to the next hurdles (getting the letter from the USE, and the visa interview). I have some questions about that as well, but I'll save those for the appropriate forum. Good luck to all of you. I'll check back from time to time.

btw, my petition had an unusually long time at USCIS - almost 8 months. So when I learned that NVC was going to hold my file for additional processing, it was like adding insult to injury. It' a huge relief that the file has been sent to the USE.

Good... I'm glad your case has moved!

Still in AP as of today. Bleh. wacko.gif

Congrats on the EAD!

I just found this forum, and I guess I'm now one of the crowd waiting for the NVC to conduct additonal "processing." My NOA2 was issued July 10, and in early August I received a letter dated July 30, 2009, from NVC (the same erroneous letter most of you received) stating that my file would be sent to the USE in Manila within one week. When I called the NVC to confirm, I received the news that the petition had not been sent to the embassy, and that it was undergoing further processing at the NVC. Same answers you all got - can't tell me what processing is needed, or how long it will take.

I read many of the forum entries going back in time to the first one from Sweetjuly, and it seems most people whose K1 petitions get sidetracked for addtional processing at the NVC end up waiting between 1-3 months for the file to get sent to the USE. It doesn't seem to depend on which country is involved, though I could be wrong about that. If anyone has had to wait longer than 3 months, I'd be interested to hear about that, and if you were able to discover why it took longer than 3 months.

I asked my senator to write a letter to the NVC, and she did. I also asked an attorney to call the NVC. I doubt either action will speed the results, but I thought it was worth a shot. Many in Congress have forms on their websites for submitting requests for help with gov't agencies. Don't hesitate to use these forms and to get your Congress people involved. They or their staffs are truly happy to help their constituents. While I doubt it will have an impact on anyone's individul results, (a) you never know; and ( cool.gif maybe people in Congress will start asking questions at a macro level about why the NVC takes so long, and bring about some needed change.

Anyway, I have seen the advice you all have given - be patient. I will be. And thanks for all the messages. They are really helpful for those, like me, who are waiting to be with their loved one and who can't fathom why their government's actions and processing aren't more transparent.

MZY

Welcome aboard smile.gif I have a letter to my congressman ready to print and mail tomorrow. His website doesn't seem to be very reliable. The people who've been around for awhile say the wait times are reducing. I *hope* we're out much sooner than 3 months.

Fun facts about your NVC case number, if you're interested:

Your NVC number is based on

EEEYYYYOOOSSS

  • E = 3 digit embassy code (example TKY for Tokyo)
  • Y = 4 digit code for year (example 2008)
  • O= 3 digit code for Ordinal date plus 500
  • Example I. Aug 28 = 241st ordinal day ADD 500 = 741
  • Example II. 741 SUBTRACT 500 = 241st ordinal day (Aug. 28)
  • S = Sequence number of the day (if you were the second approval scanned, your code would be 002)
Full Example of NVC case number = TKY2008741002

The value of this is that you can determine, for sure, when your package was scanned in at the NVC. You can find ordinal dates by googling "ordinal date" (or just use that link). My "o" numbers were 710, so mine was scanned July 29th.

It's something to do. smile.gif
