US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLondon Packet 3 wait time concern

Thanks for this. Sounds like what we're planning to do--keep checking in, and send the docs as soon as they say they're sending packet 3. When you say you never received it, do you mean that you still never received it even after DoS gave you the word they'd sent it?

On DS-160, how odd. I could have sworn I just established to my satisfaction that while some embassies have switched to it, London was not one of them. Or that it was now in use for most visas except K1/K2. Or...something. Hm...back to quadruple check again...

This is reassuring; thank you.

Correction on the DS-160! I emailed them yesterday and they said: "Fiance (K) visa applicants are not required to file the Form DS-160, they are still required to file the old style forms, DS-156, DS-157 etc."

So follow the instructions on the link I gave you. :)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLondon Packet 3 wait time concern

Hey--

Our case was sent from NVC on March 22, and the woman at DoS I spoke with today said London received it on March 30. This is different information than I got from the previous woman I spoke with, who said a few days ago that London had received the electronic record of our case but not the physical package yet.

First, does anybody know anything about that supposed gap between an electronic case getting logged in at the embassy and the actual case being received/logged?

Second, as today is the 12th of April, we are wondering why it's taking so long to send packet 3 if indeed the entire case is there at London and has been for nearly two weeks. Is this common? Do cases routinely sit at the embassy for a while before somebody gets it together to send packet 3?

We are itching to get on with sending the first docs to the embassy so we can get our interview date as soon as possible. Should we just sit and continue to wait for packet 3? Help!

We NEVER did receive packet 3. Once we called DoS and their response to our status request was, "We sent packet 3 today", we went to the website and printed out the forms, filled them in and sent them back to the embassy.

You can print most of the forms now, if you want, and make sure you've got it all ready to go. Here's a website to look at: http://london.usemba...a/iv/iv_15.html

Keep in mind the DS-160 has recently replaced DS-156 and DS-157.

Keep calling for status. I used to call every 3 - 4 days.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of Support Question (London Embassy)

Thanks so much! I hope we have just as easy of a time, if the NOA2 ever arrives.

USCIS will not care about your credit rating at AOS time, either, by the way. And you do get to fill out a affidavit of support form, with pretty much all the same info as you did this time around. Check out the AOS guide when you have spare reading time. :)

Good luck with the rest of your journey. The process is not as difficult as it sometimes feels... Waiting is the difficult part.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview but a question

I got approved from London for my k1 visa.

However, the consular official said I no longer needed my previous visa, and got a big stamp saying 'cancelled without prejudice' and put it on my visa. He said he cancelled my old visa. Will that present problems in the future? And does that mean from now on I tick yes to previous visa cancelled?

He's just marked it cancelled and indicated that there was no reason, except that it's no longer needed. Not a problem. They'll put your new K1 visa in there.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134

Hi, im busy getting documentation prepared ready for NOA2 and interview at London.

My problem is, looking at the I-134 form on the USCIS website, it expires on 31st May 2011.

How can we possibly prepare this form and give the time to mail from US petitioner to myself (UK beneficiary) in readyness for interview.... without it being out-dated?

Please :help:

Normally, they accept previous editions (The instructions page on the current form says: Edition Date :05/21/2010. Previous editions accepted.). It doesn't hurt to wait for the new version if you have time to. The proof-gathering is the most time-intensive part, so do that first.

Can someone explain to me how to call CDJ and speak to a person? I followed the instructions on the http://ciudadjuarez....contact-us.html website but the options I got to a point in the automated system where it said to enter my credit card and I would be charged $71.00 USD. I just want to call and talk to a person to see that our case has arrived and is being processed.

Our senator's office talked to the CDJ consulate 2 weeks ago and they said that our case is there and is being processed but then the senator's office said they are just going to wait until they hear from them again when they send out the open invitation letter. I was hoping I would be able to call and get more information sooner.

$71.00 DOLLARS...holy smokes!!! I have a feeling that you will be receiving something soon maybe within the next couple of weeks.

I certainly hope so. Did you see anywhere in this site that gives more specific instructions on how to call? My phone won't permit me to call the 1-900 number and the credit card number was the one that led me down a long street of automated responses and asked for my credit card number.

Ok, I must confess I called the number 3 times last week(twice on Friday). I just checked my checking account and it is $7.00 for the call. After the recording of the girl a man starts talking I pressed 1 and then it said 1 for english or 2 for spanish. I chose english but couldn't figure out if he was saying immigrant or non-immigrant. I called like 10 times trying to figure out what was being said. Finally, I accidentally hit 2 and the man started speaking in spanish and I understood him a lot better smile.gif
but after i pushed 1 for english i pushed 2 and the system asked for my credit card information. If you press 1 at the end of the long message it said that the information was for all consulates except Juarez.
I was trying to justify my spending $21 on 3 calls to Juarez and I finally came up with the fact that I can send my SO $100 and he'll recieve 1331 pesos which makes up for it, right? lol

That is the kind of justification I do all the time. So which of the numbers did you call originally? And did you actually end up speaking to someone, if so what did they say?

Oops, sorry I didn't read your whole question.

The first 2 times I called it was a lady speaking in spanish and she updated all my info(I moved last month) and she verified the names and said that they were still processing the paperwork. She also said that they would send a letter to me when they have finished processing the paperwork. Finally the 3rd time I spoke to someone in english(my english is much better than my spanish) and he said that they weres till processing the paperwork and that they would notify my attorney when everything was done. He also said that it would take 4-6 weeks to process the paperwork. I asked if I could go to Juarez he said not until the they were done processing.
Uuumm, I think that's about it. Oh he said to call every 2 weeks to check to see if they are done.

I read somewhere that what they are doing is checking FBI records and depending how fast they get the results back is how long it will take to send us the appt letter. It said about 2 weeks but I have been looking at other peopels timelines and it varies.

Thanks for the reply, we have an attorney do you think it wont hurt for me check on it at nvs. it took almost 8 months to get second noa on approved I130

I didn't use an attorney, but in that same situation, I would not think calling just for a status would be an issue.

Here is a link so you can see what the workflow is for your visa: http://www.visajourn...wchart_v1-2.pdf

Here is the phone number for the National Visa Center: 202-663-1225 You can call and check status anytime you want. All you need is your number from one of your NOA notices.

I don't know about the waiting times, but they should be able to tell you if the bill has been mailed or the exact status of your case.

Good luck!

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is sufficient to take copies of our tax returns to the citizenship interview or do I need to obtain tax transcripts? I am hoping that copies of the returns will be enough.

Thanks

Andrea

Tax returns are accepted as long as you have the corresponding W2 forms that go with them. They're not valid by themselves. Also, you don't have to take the original documents, photocopies are accepted.

Diana

YEP to the tax returns as long as you have the w-2's.

I just got this "On March 4, 2013, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location"

Congratulations! If your family or friends accompany you, it would be interesting to see a list of other countries represented, too (at least for me). If you get pictures, you must post them. :) There were about 20 in my husband's ceremony.

What an exciting day! The interview was at 8:50. The approval was done by 10:30. The oath ceremony was at 2pm. It was interesting to see all of the nationalities represented at the oath ceremony: Sudan, Mexico, India, Iran, El Salvador, South Sudan, Burma, Brazil, Iraq, Kenya, Afghanistan, Great Britain, Peru.. I know I couldn't hear a couple. The field office calls names and then mentions their birth countries. Very awesome.

Good luck, everyone!

United KingdomPeople between NOA2 and Interview ~2009~
QUOTE (mr and mrs @ Apr 6 2009, 12:14 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
nik+heather (or anyone),

do you have any other good tips for finding cheap flights? i get overwhelmed quickly and im sure i miss out on some good deals.

i guess one of our issues is that jamie will be ultimately flying into BTV, aka burlington international airport in grand old burlington, vermont (it is grand. im not being sarcastic!) normally, what we do is fly into JFK and then connect on another airline. (i have a friend who works for jetblue so we get lots of buddy passes. about $20 for a one way flight to btv from jfk.) but im not sure that jamie will want to deal with the extra hassle of changing terminals and flying standby (thats the catch with the buddy passes) on top of having to pass through immigration. i bet if there is a really cheap flight from manchester to kennedy he might be convinced! i just want it to be as easy as possible for him, poor little guy.

we usually trawl through expedia first and see what is cheap. and then go to the airline sites directly.

and nik+heather, are you saying that looking at say 'business class' might be a good idea? with possibly more relaxed change conditions?

hmm. i look into it.

-lisabette.

You could try Kayak.com. The site searches to find the lowest fare and also shows a calendar with the lowest fares for the month. I think you are right... the airlines themselves end up being cheapest. Also, we've been trying to stick with one particular airline to build up frequent flier miles. Some day (far, far away from today) we just may get a free ticket somewhere. Good luck!

We had our interview on the 5th and we received the visa today the 8th of March! I thought he was lying to me when he said he got it!

Dang, that was fast! Congratulations!

United KingdomTravelling after returning Packet 3...

I travelled to California to visit my fiance, 2 weeks before the interview date and had no problems. I didn't even take the interview letter with me and they didn't ask anything different that they have ever asked before... made me wonder if they even knew I had applied for a visa!
I don't think you will have a problem.

Lot's of people travel at varying points during this process without issues. Taking the proof that you're due back is a good plan, just in case there are any questions.

I went to the UK after I got engaged, told the officer I was there to see my fiance and no problems. It works the other direction, as well.

:) Have fun!

United KingdomAbout Affidavit of Support

And then too....What do you do about the ex husband being on a couple of the past tax returns as joint filer... As in 2008 and 2007.....2009 is all me. Suppose have three years of tax returns?

Three years of tax returns is a good idea. If you have the tax transcripts or if you have a copy of your returns with w-2's, the ex's income can be separated by yours.

You don't need a notorized copy.

Thanks! I was scratching my head wondering what needed to be sent over there as far as my originals and not that I wouldn't give em over to my fiance ...I wouldn't want to lose them in the crossing of 4000 miles.

The embassy only needs to see his original info (birth cert, police cert, etc .. the items on the list). You don't need to send any original documents.. just photocopies. You can do what you think is best with having things notorized, but in Oct 2009 when we were approved, they were not requiring anything related to the USC to be notorized.

You're right - no more correspondence from them after packet 4/interview letter. I would still tell them at the interview, and of course give the new address to SMS to have your visa delivered.

United KingdomSending Mail To The London Embassy

Hi all,

Just a quick one, can I send my IV-15K by special delivery?

Only reason I ask is I read at another embassy that they return all to be signed mail to the sender.

Thanks in advance

Ian sent his that way, too. It's the preferred method to send them, really, since you get a receipt when they're delivered.

United KingdomI-693

Did any of you have your vaccinations transcribed by a civil surgeon? Did you just send in the AOS with a copy of the 3025? I'm not sure what to do. John had his medical done at knightbridge, it's been within a year, but the dr. checked the box vaccinations incomplete...eligable for a blanket waiver. He had several boxes checked stating not appropriate because of age and he had a VH written next to the Chicken Pox shot. I'm trying to figure out if we are ok or not. Per the USCIS if you've had the medical done and it's within a year and the 3025 was filled out completely you shouldnt have to send in the i-693. Ugh...I'm spazzing out! Help!

You've read that right, but when we filed in December, there were several people sending their 3025 along with their application and getting RFE's for the i-693 anyway. I'm not sure if the trend is still the same or not, but it's not difficult to get a CS to transcribe vaccinations. Our transcription was free, but some charge a fee for it, or try to get people to take another exam, which is not necessary.

You can try filing with the 3025 only to see if they will accept it. If they RFE for the transcription, then it only takes a week or two to get it done, mailed and get back into the "processing" queue.

If you wish to pursue the i-693, then call around to a few civil surgeons, ask for the person who works with immigration physicals (ours had two receptionists... one was clueless about immigration things and one worked with immigration paperwork all the time). Ask them what the fee for "transcription of vaccinations only" is. Prices vary.

Good luck. It's not as daunting as it looks. :)

Thank you for making me feel better guys :) my boy is sending me the original so if we do run into problems, at least it is on its way. As my signature says, forewarned is forearmed :)

I think this is proof that, although I have been all calm and collected the past 2 days, my inner stress monster was just gagging to get out!! Time for a cup of tea I think...

Thank you for the good wishes :) cross your fingers!!!

United KingdomHow long does it take to issue visa???

I had the interview on friday, was told same thing "approved, 3-5 days", and it is arriving today on wednesday. So doesn't take that long normally. only 1 business day since interview and it was in mail yesterday. awaiting to hold it in hands in some hours. (L)

Congrats! You know, some time before our visa was received, the visa printer at the embassy broke, and several people were delayed for weeks (I'm glad it doesn't break often!). It's good to follow the "don't make travel plans before you have the visa in hand" suggestion the CO gives. :)

United KingdomHow long does it take to issue visa???

Today is the seventh day.I will see whats happened to the end of this week.I hope it will come until then.:)

So, to pass time, I went to the courier website and typed in the receipt number until it came up. :) When it shows up as a valid receipt number, then it will say the visa is due to be delivered the next day.

I am the American, and I knew about the delivery before my fiance (now husband) got the sms about it. :)

This is basically just a standard instruction from the CO, by the way. They always say 3-5 days, and they don't really know what the queue is like. Hang in there! It's exciting to finally receive it. :)

United KingdomK1 Interview in London - Birth Certificate

well thanks for pointing this out. I never read tis page or ever saw it. I just read the instructions initial page that said 'birth certificate' I never knew of a different version. I didnt get a list in P3 it was just a letter, thats the part I am angry about, anyways I ordered it this morning and it should be here tomorrow.

Really? I thought P3 directed people to a link on the embassy website. If you can message me the link you received in your P3, I can check the website and ask the embassy web developer to fix the site. I have done this in the past, and they're pretty speedy at it (you have to ask them nicely, though) :)

Good luck with the rest of your journey. It won't be long now, right? How long until the bc arrives?

United KingdomK1 Interview in London - Birth Certificate

Hello all,

Just a quick rant...I will do a review of the interview when I have calmed down
I went to the embassy today and was told my birth certificate is not accepted, I need a long-form version???

Why is this not on the instructions?
I have never even heard of it. If the embassy wants these documents they should clearly state what it is they want. I have only ever had 1 birth certificate, and have used it for all sorts in the past. I have never heard or seen any other version. I am so so upset and angry. To top it off the woman was so rude and unfriendly. Not a good experience at all. So our case is suspended until I get the correct birth certificate.

Does anyone know how to make an official complaint?
I feel that the whole k1 process has been handled badly ever since it got finished byUSCIS. Everything the embassy has sent me has been very vague. It seems like this is an important and high security thing to do, and yet as far as documents go it's hard to get the correct info, they need a proper detailed checklist. Every review I read is differetn and its really not fair on us, the applicants, who are trying to deal with this tough process.

It's all here: http://london.usembassy.gov/interview_documents.html. "Note: We will not accept the short form version of a UK birth certificate. The certificate must list both parents'names. "

I can see how this would be easy to overlook, but the only thing you can do now is get the form they want and get it back to the embassy so you can get your visa.

United KingdomRound-up of yesterday - Visa in Administrative Processing!

I haven't a plane ticket. That is the thing that needs least organizing. :crying:

All 'No'. The thing i can't understand is there's nothing i can think of that should've raised a 'red flag' on either side. Maybe the file is 'too good' (if there is such a thing).

I just hope it doesn't go back to having something to do with USCIS transferring my case to Dublin!

My guess would be that they just need time to review the forms you had to complete while you were there.

Don't book a ticket until you have your visa in hand. It will save you loads of stress if there are any delays.

Good luck!

United KingdomIrritating BS your SO does

You have got to be kidding me...she would have had to waive her right to the cooling off period? She didn't mention that, she only said California has no cooling off period. What a bloody stupid thing to do.

As I said, I thought it best to start our new life together with something a little more classy than a 10 year old Sentra. But yes, in hindsight I should have just rented a car at the airport and dealt with this myself. Lesson learned.

According to this http://www.californi...om/ncoprule.htm, there's no cooling off period (any longer) in California.

I can't imagine being sent enough money to buy a new car. Maybe she was overwhelmed. Aside from that, car sales people can be "convincing" (I'm picking a nice word, see?) No offense to anyone, but people should get to buy the cars they want without being incredibly upside down or overextended. Their goal is to move a car off the lot, no matter what, IMO.

I'm sure there are some caring, honest ones out there. :)

United Kingdom2010 United Kingdom Interview Thread

so is it ok to put an earlier poe/wedding date even if you *know* you're doing it later? Like we are getting married 27/11 and planning POE for last week of October but I'd quite like to get everything done and dusted by June...but equally is it bad to tell porky pies?

PS...good luck tomorrow :)

I think you've got plenty of time to work with. You have to get married within 90 days of entering the country, so the earliest POE date would be in late August. You'll have your visa in plenty of time for that without "moving up" your wedding date.

LOL! That would be the "great shoes, terrible teeth!" stereotype! The terrible teeth bit is true, it's the great shoes bit which isn't! That's the Italians.

Now, to less of a laughing matter. That packet 3. A number of folk are talking about sending the completed forms to the embassy (when it is confirmed by DOS that the embassy have logged the petition) before receiving the letter from the embassy. I have read a VJ post ages ago from someone who advised doing this.

Can any of our beloved gurus let me know what ya all think about doing this?

And, if we are doing this, what answer do we put to the question on the checklist "date of medical"?

Grateful for any input here.

If you call the Dept of State for status, they will tell you if P3 has been sent. If so, you can send your forms into the embassy.

We never did get a letter regarding P3, and didn't run into any problems doing it the way I described.

Some days, I love the time difference between Omaha and London. This is one of those days. I was awakened at 4:30 am by a very happy fiance who says the embassy has blessed his arrival in America! We were very confident (thanks to endless reading of VisaJourney!), by the end of yesterday, that all the paperwork was in order. Ian said he was asked 4 questions... the "how did you meet", "when were you engaged", etc. sort of things. The man interviewing him at the embassy said his sister met her husband online and they'd been married 10 years. smile.gif They said he should have his paper visa within 5 days and he will be ready to fly at that point. We're both very excited! smile.gif

hey guys havn't been bak to this site ever since i've been approved pending police clearance. This pending has not changed whatsoever. So in the past month, i have gone from people in Sri Lanka telling me the police clearance has been cancelled to having to apply again!!! This particular person asking for $1600 US dollars to get the clearance since it is urgent for us now. Come to find out he is trying to rip us off...we found someone else who has more influence in the police headquarters. Just found out today that the clearance has been stopped by the NIB!! National Investigation Bureau. WHY WHY WHY??? they say becoz too many people cam asking so tehy got suspicious. Of course loads of ppl would come and ask since my fiance's visa is expiredddd!!! oh man..the wedding is in November and i am scared he wont be here. These 3rd world countries suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. they take foreverrrrrrrr!!! i am so stressed....and losing more weight by the minute. I thought the interview was the scariest part. I've passed the interview its teh damn clearance that i've been waiting for since FEBRUARY!!!!! ahhhh...God help!!
crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif

Sorry about all the frustration with the Sri Lankan police certificate sad.gif
I hope that you can sort it out ASAP. What do you mean the NIB stopped the clearance? I don't think any one can stop you from getting a police clearance. Did you make definite plans for the wedding? I hope not, because with this whole immigration process, you never know when you are really done. Hope you get the clearance soon.
It doesn't look like London has gotten things back up to speed yet, and I really hope they do ASAP because we too are sick of waiting so long.

Referring to London embassy not sre if it is the case every where else but when you sent your packet 3 in while they are taking their time. there no way someone can trace packet 3 reception. it seems like until they made a decision there is no way to know or trace with the embassy whether or not the packet has effectively been delivered.
that puzzles a little bit

Why not call the Dept of State and ask them if packet 3's been received or if an interview date's been issued?
