I didn't sign up for touches.
I'd rather just get my NOA2 without getting excited about my big pile of papers being touched inbetween.

There's a chance you could get email notification a week or two before getting your physical NOA2 if you sign up. That was my first notification that we were approved.

A "touch" sometimes means your NOA2 is coming, but that's something you don't get notified of. You have to look at the USCIS site to see them.

I wish I wasn't so obsessed with notifications. smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMarch 2009 K1 Filer

Hi you two...I hope everything is great!

I thought that too, about the POE. However when we ran into trouble with our POE officer deciding, based on Luke's answer to "when" we would marry, how long to make our visa we called the NVC and they told us that the Port Authority officer had the right to decide how long, up to 90 days the visa should extend. The general rule of thumb is to know that K-1 should have 90 days--going along side the other stipulations to marry within 90 days, but the power is what the power is. They may be wrong, but this is what they told us. Also that they could not grant us additional time once the POE officer wrote a date. (shrug)

I was just reading yesterday on the Homeland Security website that the POE officer is the official interviewer for the entry and length of the visa. It is their power to turn people away--though they rarely do after such lengthy processes, or to write the time of the length of the visa.

A bientot!

This page may be helpful: http://travel.state..../info_1298.html

What is a Visa?

Citizens of foreign countries generally need visas to enter the United States. A visa is permission to apply to enter the United States. It is a document which is affixed to a page in your passport.

Under U.S. law the Department of State has responsibility for issuing visas, and most visas are issued at one of the Department of State embassies and consulates abroad. Therefore, when you want to travel to the United States, you must first apply for a visa at an American embassy or consulate abroad. A consular officer decides whether you are qualified for a visa.

A visa doesn't permit entry to the U.S. A visa simply indicates that your application has been reviewed by a U.S. consular officer at an American embassy or consulate, and that the officer determined you're eligible to travel to the port-of-entry for a specific purpose. The port of entry can be an international airport, a seaport or a land border crossing.

At the port-of-entry a U.S. immigration officer of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) decides whether to allow you to enter and how long you can stay for any particular visit. Only the U.S. immigration officer has the authority to permit you to enter the United States.

Very odd.

When Ian came through Minneapolis, we had a firm wedding date set for within 30 days. The stamp on the i-94 and the passport itself were marked to expire Jan 30, 2010, which was a 90-day window.

Most of the POE entry reviews I've read about indicate that the officer reminded people they need to get married within 90 days, and sent them on their way, sometimes after a few questions.

Which POE was this and was your marriage date quite soon after entry?

We were approved. :D I'm utterly delighted!! And in total shock-still can't believe it happened.

Congratulations!! It's good to be done with this part of the journey, isn't it. :) I remember that feeling well!

BTW, LukeLyn, I don't think the POE officer decides how long the k1 visa will extend once you enter the country. The rule is that you get married within 90 days, period.

Thanks for the update,
I called NVC a few minutes ago as well and they told me they sent our case to the Embassy today (August 5th). I wish for a speedy approval for the rest of the March filers.

Rob

We have a 7/20 NOA2 and ours is still lounging around at NVC.

I can't believe that some April filers (with MAY NOA1s like me!) are getting their NOA2s already!! It's heart breaking for ME, let alone how you guys must feel. This month is YOUR month!! Good luck!

Also, Danu, that's great news about the response you got! I'll have to keep that in mind if it ends up that my process takes a little too long for me to comfortably be there at the start of January.

Definately hon! Theres no harm at all in asking, the worst they could have said was no. I'll keep you updated biggrin.gif, just waiting on them to log my package so I actually get on the list.

Good luck, Guys! Hopefully all the Marchers (lol... sounds funny, doesn't it?) will have their approvals soon! Anyone get any touches on Friday?

NOA1 is just a receipt. Our cases are sitting on shelves or in files or something until it's our turn, unfortunately.

Your RFE means that you're only a week or two away from approval, once they get the info back, though. Correct me, someone, if I'm wrong. Usually, you get priority if they're waiting for a bit if information.

Having my guy here with me at the moment is making me realize how desperately I want to be with him permanently. Ah well, we've got the next 3 months together until then. Better than those of you that are faced with having to wait until your visas are sorted. I certainly feel for you all.

British customs are getting really, really difficult about him visiting here so much though. Even with his proof of our I-129F petition, they said they didn't care and were still unhappy about letting him in. They did, but we wonder whether they'll do so next time. They seemed to only allow him in very grudgingly. sad.gif They told him he should get a visa, but I don't know what visa we'd be able to get in time for his next trip to England.

But he's here now, and hopefully we'll get some good news in the next week or so with our I-129F approval. I just hope we don't get an RFE.

Frosty - I'm not sure how they can ask him to get a visa. He's not planning on settling there. I think the amount of grief normally depends on the agent you get at border control. The last one I had at Heathrow only asked 3 questions: Why are you here? Where will you be staying? Does your boyfriend ever visit the US? He wasn't as friendly as the agent I got the first time over, but at least I wasn't answering 20 questions. smile.gif

Glad you have 3 months together. Your NOA2 should be coming up soon! Have some fish and chips and mushy peas for me! smile.gif

emmaline_g, I kinda know how you feel, I think.

I like to believe that the USCIS prefer quality over quantity. I read about someone who filed for their I-129F once and sent in a petition with over 150 pages of supporting evidance.

I know we were as thorough as we could be about our petition, but it wasn't that much, certainly.

I worry that some things about our evidance might cause them to think we aren't genuine enough. We don't have THAT many photographs (the batteries always seem to be running out in the camera!) and those we do have aren't really all that exciting. They mean a lot and are very special to me and my guy, but I wonder what the USCIS will think of countless photographs of us sat on the sofa at my home together, or stood in the kitchen making a cake. I worry maybe they want to see countless photographs of us going out and doing things, and we don't have those - mostly because where I live is boring and there's not really much within easy distance that either of us would actually want to go to.

Sometimes I worry that in order to be genuine for the USCIs, we would actually have to fake our relationship - to go places we don't want to go, etc.

With our I-129F, we sent in evidance of all his trips, as well as mine to the US to visit him. I got a letter from a tutor at my college who knows me very well, and she supported that he and I were in a relationshp together and intended to be married. We also sent photographs, a letter of intent from each of us saying we want to marry as soon as possible. Also sent a receipt for a birthday gift I brought him.

We put in everything we could, but I still worried that it wouldn't be enough.

Hope it's going to be fine though. No RFE yet.

I think we just have to be confident in what we've sent and call it good, unless we hear otherwise. My packet was 75 pages, but the bulky stuff included 15 pages of divorce decree. Fortunately the British decree absolute is much shorter. Ours is a novella. I sent maybe 5 or 6 pics (2 from each visit) and some email docs where he asked my dad (and the rest of my family) for my hand in marriage. And all the required docs in quadruplicate, at times. smile.gif Well... you know the drill! smile.gif

We'll all be fine. All we can do is relax and know the approval is coming. Easier said than done, I know, but try. smile.gif

So I decided today I needed to get myself out of this funk I have been in. I'm feeling pretty good now! Instead of focusing on the visa for now which I can't control I went through some listings with Wes today as he mentioned one of the towns he would like to move. Checked out prices and whats available and it was an incredible feeling. We won't be able to move to a house for a couple years but we were talking about what we should be able to afford once I'm down there and working and the big wedding is over, decided we will try to get a place thats big enough that his sister can move in during her schooling so that she doesn't have to live with their mom in her cramped little place with their 2 brothers and their grandparents. The whole idea of finding a house for some reason put me in a whole different kind of mood. It was amazing to think of more long term goals and put the focus back on the fact that I will get to have him forever and this is just a small step in our lives.

It's great that you've found something positive to think about. smile.gif It is a great idea to think and plan for the things you CAN control, rather than worrying about the things that you can't. I've done that a bit with my fiance, and it's a great feeling. I remember we've looked at houses, furniture, and talked about our financial situation in the future. We've even talked about what we'll do for coming back to England to visit my family. I remember doing so would always put me in a very positive mood whenever we talked about the future past visa applications.

We've done something to take our mind off things. We booked a B&B in October, hopefully for our wedding night. smile.gif It was nice to have a date set for something (even though we know the date will probably change... we're just ignoring that for now!) biggrin.gif

Hi everyone. I have been around, but posting to the VSC threads. I apologize for jumping ship, but all of this terminology and getting acquainted with the process and various branches has been a bit overwhelming.

About us: We met online and immediately started talking online. On day 1 we talked, on day 2 he told me he was going to marry me, and on day three he told me he loved me. I met him 2 months later in England, and the attraction, comfortable feeling of having met "the one" and an overall complete feeling took over both of us. We talk everyday whether it is for a few minutes or for hours. We talk on our cellphones so we use Skype-to-go (UK to US calling) and a calling card from Nobelcom.com (US to UK and India). If anyone knows of anything cheaper please let me know. This man was made for me, and I for him... but this long process makes me feel like something is wrong with me, and that this isn't real. That I really haven't found the most perfect person for me because I am being punished by God having to wait. We are both losing morale, and just overall- losing hope. It is very hard....

Please give me hope... today my lawyer sent me an email to contact INS because the NVC does not have any record of our case. I called USCIS 2 weeks ago and was told and have a receipt of our case. So, are things okay and my lawyer a lame duck? I just need to get our NO2 because we are getting desperate.

Don't lose hope yet. You only received your NOA1 a couple of days after me. I still haven't even got a "touch" on the USCIS website. In fact it has said the same date all along, March 3rd. But if you check Igor's list, you will see most people who received their NOA1 in March are still waiting. I am hoping to see the NOA2 by the end of this month, but it can take a LOT longer. My fiance and I use the webcam on Skype to chat free. It isn't perfect by any means, especially with my slow connection, but it works for us. It is VERY hard to wait and not be side by side with the one you love, but you are in good company here on VJ.

-Blu- (sighing heavily)

Have you tried going to Starbucks? I have actually had to do that in the past or even a public library. The Skype-to-go feature is great for europeans. You set it up once and pay for it, then when they call you from europe it costs them a local fee and it is a domestic call for you on your cellphone. i would look into whether it is available for you. At the very least this costs 10-15$ and that is per month... think of the savings! i sound like I'm being paid for this. But in all honesty, when money and convenience is an issue, its worth looking into. I don't mind researching this for you... I will work on it today. smile.gif

We use Skype Out and it's great. With Skype Out, you're able to choose a local phone number. Ian joined, picked an Omaha phone number as his local number, and I can call him all I want, from any phone, (when he is on Skype on his computer) for no per minute charge. Or he can call my landline or cell from his PC.

People able to use the 3 mobile network can purchase a Skype Cell Phone, which makes it possible for the person having to use the PC all the time, to use Skype over their Skype Cell Phone instead.

We talk at the cost of his Skype Out subscription, which I think is around $12.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsK1 Stuck at NVC

Hi all.
Well K1 was approved on March 1st 2010. Reading other November 09 K1 filers of similiar dates and approvals. Lots have gone through
the NVC in days. I rang them today and yes they have the case and yes I got the case number but it seems stuck
with additional processing.
They Counldnt tell me why. So am a wee bit worried.
Anybody any suggestions why. I hope it is nothing serious.

Ours was stuck in NVC for about a month. Name checks take forever. Normally they just pull random petitions out of the stack and hang onto them to do extra checks. Normally, there is no rhyme or reason, but they do actually move on.

Hang in there.

We call this the "Black Hole" (of NVC).

If you hang out longer than 4 weeks, get your local congressman or senator involved. Sometimes that helps to push it along.

Can I get a marriage license without a SSN? I keep hearing that it's needed, so we've been stuck on that because of the screw-ups there. I'm expecting my SSN next week and then we can hopefully apply for the license.

Depends on the state you are marrying in, just google "marriage license (state you plan to marry in) requirements" and you'll find out easily. It's not necessary to marry in the state you live in, often people don't.

I just applied for a marriage license in Nebraska for Ian and I. I sent it in by mail with a copy of my driver's license and a copy of Ian's passport (photo page). They had a spot for the social security number on the application, but I typed "none". The site says they require one, but apparently, only if one exists.

The marriage license in Nebraska requires us to appear before a notary public before getting married, provide ID (driver's license or passport.. whichever you happen to have) and have them stamp the document with their notary seal. Then we can get married, and have the officiant and witnesses sign it, then send it into the county for recording.

So, if you come to Nebraska, at least (or call your county's marriage license bureau to ask), it's possible to get married without a SSN.

Woo, good luck Mara! I'm excited to hear that stuff might be moving on with your case.

I've written about it on the board elsewhere, but we had some problems when trying to get the SSN.

I waited 14 days to make sure that I was in the system, and when we went to get my #, the woman said that although I had a K1 visa, the POE entered me on a F1 visa. She told me to go and get this sorted first and come back. I tried calling so many numbers but got nowhere, so made an infopass appointment.

USCIS told me that in their system, I was listed as a B2 visa! They told me to go back to the airport I entered and get them to correct this.

I went to get my SSN today and she told me it will take another 7-10 days to get my #... nothing but trouble there. We can't do anything until I have this number but hopefully it won't take too much longer.

Good gosh... the fun never ends, does it?

I'm here, guys...

Feels bittersweet. I feel so happy to be with my fiance but I'm still in shock over saying goodbye to my friends. There were lots of tears and cuddles, andI keep melting down in stores and everything when I think of not seeing them again. I hope this feeling passes.. I don't miss England yet but I miss my friends terribly.

Anyways thanks everyone for all of the help and support.. I can't believe we made it. smile.gif

Congrats and welcome to the US. smile.gif

I wish I could say something helpful besides, "You'll be back to England" and "Get on Skype" where your friends are concerned. It may take some time to get settled. I bet it's a bit of a shock, like you say... bittersweet.

How are your wedding plans coming along?

Anything with the word Disney in it ain't cheap lol.

Have you considered doing a sand ceremony at your wedding ceremony?

Yeah the Disney cruise was actually his mothers idea....then I looked up how much...OMG...thinking regular cruise at this point.

Sand ceremony sounds interesting....never heard of it before. I'll have to run it by the other half and see what he thinks.

Sand ceremony is a very cool thing for a blended family, all 5 of you would have different colored sand, his first, then yours into a bottle, then their sand colors, then his and yours to top it off so it makes layers.

Very cool way to have them feel like part of the situation and family, we well as have something visual for you all.

This is a really cool idea! smile.gif

Yeah, I really shouldn't make a habit out of checking my timeline page. A day later and it's pushed back another day.

Maybe that's something I won't check as often as USCIS, haha. Though it's depressing to see absolutely no change on their site, at least any change will be a good thing.

Look on the bright side... some of you are seeing your SO's before your approvals.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsIts not Fair !

Yes,i aggree with you..its unfair!!!..CSC is more faster than Vermont....i have no idea why Vermont is so slow of approving petitions...Actually we are 1 of those who belong to Vermont service CEnter i hope it won't take so long...Anyways,goodluck to all of us!!.God may help us for our journey......God Bless to all....

Sometimes one service center has more petitions to review than the other. When they get past their estimated timeframe, they may start reshuffling them among service centers, when possible, to speed things up a bit. I saw that with my group (April 2009 K-1 filers).

Hang in there! It really does happen in the end (although the wait is extremely difficult).

5 months and 13 days since i have seen her
and i will never see her again
very sad
i need to get that ring back and
move on

this blows

at least im out and you all can be with who you love faster!

good luck everyone

im dead inside now!

There are probably fewer weeks remaining until the NOA2 than months you've been apart. Try to talk to her and see if she will come around. We all go through periods of burn-out during this waiting game, and it would be a shame to quit when the finish line is in sight. If you love her, fight to keep her. And if she still insists on ending the relationship, at least you'll know you did your part. Also, if you can't work this out, it could be for the best in the long-run since there will always be difficulty in any relationship. Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

Stan said everything I wanted to say, just better. He's rght. As a girl....sometimes that is what I wanted to hear - I won't let go, I won't give up. This may be just what she needs to hear right now.

Spot on. good.gif

grazie mille r &a inc,,,,,,,,,,i have sprint , dont really want to pay 69.00 a month for the i phone, so maybe ill try htc, anyway, i knew there was a way, just had to find it!! I see your SO is also in italy,,I looked at the similar timelines and saw 2 got thier NOA2 in like 3 months,,,hopefully ours will go the sameway..im hoping they hurry, because i want to get the interview date soon,,you know ALL of italy shuts down most of august for FIERE..and i hope that we dont have to wait longer. I'm thinking of going for a few weeks, the fares are not that bad right now, and I miss my fidanzato tantisimoooooooo,, ok, thanks again, and ill go check about the windows mobile phone, ciao goofy.gif

My fiance in England has a 3G phone with Skype. He has a Skype Out plan and chose a free local number, so I can call him when he's online from any phone, free of charge. Also, I have an Alltel pay-as-you-go plan where I put his local number in my calling circle, so any in- or outbound calls to/from his local number are free.

Essentially, we can call each other any time, no matter where we are. He just has to be signed into Skype.

I think he pays 12 GPB per month for the Skype Out piece. Not sure how much the cell plan was, but it's less than it was through his previous cell phone company (Orange?)

Tomorrow is the two year anniversary of the day we got engaged. Still waiting for the court to finish. It is remarkable that we have the fortitude to keep going and be so happy with our love. Watch, we will get denied after all this. Saw that Star is still in AP. :crying:

EOTR - I thought you withdrew your application, or did I read that wrong? I hope things finish up for you soon!

S/S - Congratulations! A baby! :)

Star - Yay for you. Hope he arrives soon!

Ya tell me about it---food wise it really makes a difference! Remember you can do Davids bridal dresses for like 99$ or so...we've decided to wait to get our ss# till after the wedding then I can get mine done at the same time. Our banks didnt need ss# for him but drivers licences do, he's never had a licence so its me changing mine, so gotta do ss# for that. I was reading ages ago about us folks with foreign spouses, its like you look over at them and you cant believe you really get to keep them now! So damn true! I think so far its a awesome ride!

It's odd they require a name change on the SS card before they'll do a name change on a driver's license (but it's true) :) NE just needed proof of the name change (marriage license), but we don't have to supply a SSC as ID here.

Do they actually print your SSN on your DL?

Hey, everyone! Sorry I've been MIA on here. Life has been so, so, so crazy lately. But good :) I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.

Ken-the pictures are beautiful! You two look so happy!

EOTR and Star-any new news? Hope you're both doing well. Hang in there!

Allie-woo-hoo!!!!!!

Hope everyone is doing well. We filed for AOS and traveled (me being an absolutely nervous wreck) w/out a hard copy of our NOA1 and w/an expired I-94. We were fine on the way over (thank god) and I immediately called a friend to fax me our NOA1 so that we wouldn't be without it. After the terrorist incident, I was so nervous to travel back. The people in security definitely questioned Lamine's passport on the way back (althought they didn't look at the I-94). They didn't believe Senegal was a real country. I had to explain to them where it was on the map, give the capital name, etc. before they let us go. Oh well. I guess they're just doing there jobs....

I hope you're all doing well. We need more wedding pictures on here!!!!

Assuming you were traveling within the US, right? :)

Sounds like the security staff was up on its geography. :star:
