Don't need to take it. I didn't take mine, they never asked nor when they sent me a list of what to bring was it on that list. Didn't want to be walking around with that big thing.

CanadaCan a Canadian travel to US with I-551 in his passport and ask or choose not to activate PR? Or I-551 automatically activates PR no matter what or ..?
I didn't know that Canadian are included in the DV lottery. The times I checked on it they said no. But anyways I have traveled back and forth to the U.S. many times and never had a problem coming or going at the border with my visa (unactived) in my passport.

CanadaHow much notice is given for Montreal interview?
I got my notice on a Friday and had to be in Montreal 5 days later for my interview...flew to Toronto for my medical (they were nice enough to fit me in) then to Montreal for my interview the next day....sent my medical when I got it a few days after my interview...
truckerbobMaleCanada2010-04-12 16:20:00
CanadaStupid question
I have gone for two medicals in Toronto (I didn't activate my visa and had to go back) and both times the doctor told me the "everything is fine" and "there will be no problem" so if they don't say anything...don't be afraid to ask.

CanadaToronto G20 Protesters To Be Greeted With Sound Canons.
I also support the security people...too many protesters cause so much damage to property that does not belong to them. Also the leaders have to be protected from the nut cases out there..and lets all remember that we are at war as we see from time to time by the flags flying on the Highway of Heros. That's all I have to say about that...

CanadaIs there a way to contact the Montreal consulate?
I took me about 2 weeks before I got an email answer back from Montreal. Besure you include all your information so they can find your file.

Canadaavoiding having to reschedule consular appt.
Can't you just write/fax Montreal and explain what is going on and ask for a later date, instead of waiting for them to schedule, then ending up not making it and then rescheduling it? It was just a thought...I hated waiting for them too but that's the way it is and you just have to work within their little world...good luck

CanadaThe Annoying Co-Worker Thread

Being a man and supervisor of 23 women and 15 men I have to say you women are the hardest to handle and other supervisors that do not have any women often ask me how I handle the day to day drama that is created in my department. Not long ago there was a leak in the ladies washroom and a couple of ladies stopped by my office to let me know..I said I will call maintenance. Two days later the leak still was not fixed as the maintenance guys are a busy bunch but when I came in the next morning I had 23 seperate voice mails complaining about the leak. Sometimes I will get 5 women in my office to bitc...er I mean to complain about some other poor girl then each of these five ladies will return indivdually to complain about the other four that were just with her. This stuff goes on day after day....so ladies either deal with the problem and put it behind you or just get over it, but more then anything...get back to work!! Thanks I feel so much better now....

Sprailenes..I would be documenting those comments and have meeting minutes because those kind of comments and the way she treats you is total uncalled for...

CanadaO.P.P. News Release
This may have been posted before but this was released yesterday from the local OPP detachment:

NEW POLICIES INVOLVING CRIMINAL

RECORDS CHECKS NOW IN PLACE

(Nottawasaga OPP, ON) - For many years, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachments have processed requests for criminal records checks that are used for employment and volunteer positions. In addition, some citizens require a vulnerable sector check when they work or volunteer in a position that involves being in direct contact with children or vulnerable persons.

In the past, these checks would take approximately one week to complete and the results were returned to the applicant.

Recently, changes have been implemented which will make this process much longer. For some, the changes may require the applicant to submit fingerprints to be sent to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) which may make the entire process take approximately 120 days (four months) for the results to return.

Persons who may work or volunteer in the community are asked to keep this in mind as they plan their community involvement and participation accordingly.

Your patience in accordance with the potential increase in the time period to have these criminal record checks processed will be appreciated.

We stayed at Le Square Phillips, right around the corner from the Consulate. It was extremely nice, but not cheap.

I also stayed at the Le Square Phillips and it was great hotel but yes it is pricey for sure. A very small walk to the consulate.

CanadaMedical Review in Toronto
Went to Dr. Seiden's office in Toronto for my medical exam. Arrived at the front door and 6:40 a.m. which is locked and you are suppose to use the intercom to gain entry before the doors open. I tried but had difficulty reading the instructions due to the low light level of the system. I finally figured it out and gave it a try but no answer. The Security Guard was at his desk when I first arrived but by the time I tried the intercom he had left. I was the only person waiting outside the door.

7:50 a.m. a young woman in a coat and holding a MacDonald’s coffee arrived from inside the building, walked over, opened the door and asked if I was waiting for immigration medical? I said yes and she said follow me and up to the 14th floor we went.
She asked me for my appointment letter and showed me the waiting room.

7:05 a.m. the administrative assistant asked me to come to her office and we went over the paperwork, payment, photo, passport, immunizations, and sign here, here and here.

7:10 a.m. into the examination room with the nurse where the weighing, measuring and blood pressure taking occurred.

7:20 a.m. nurse said time to strip off everything and put on the paper gown then wait for the doctor. Waiting…waiting….waiting….damn floor is cold - feet getting cold…socks back on…waiting…waiting

7:40 a.m. well it seemed like forever but the doctors finally arrive. Female doctor with a male sidekick. So now the review of your medical history begins, diseases, operations, questions, immunization review followed up by checking eyes, throat, deep breaths (lots of those-I was getting dizzy) pushing and tapping on the gut and oh yes turn your head and cough…now I know why she brought her male sidekick. I guess they had enough as suddenly she said get dressed and go the waiting room for you blood work to be done.

8:05 a.m. I got dressed opened the door and the nice lady was waiting for me to take me for my blood work..stuck in the needle and told me to return the to waiting room in case there was an issue the doctor wanted to see me. Wow there is 12 people now in the waiting room.

8:10 a.m. Doctor didn’t need to see me and was told to go to the receptionist. The receptionist asked if the doctor told me to send anything in that was missing and I said no, she then gave me a map to the place for a chest x-ray and that was it, out of the building at 8:15 a.m. She gave me a sealed envelop to give to the x-ray people.

8:21 a.m. the x-ray place is super easy to find, just around the corner from the Tim Horton’s about 3 doors or so down the street on the right hand side. In the door up the stairs and right across the hall is another set of stairs into the basement and that is where the x-ray is. I gave them the envelop and was told to have a seat which I only sat in for about 3 minutes and the x-ray technician came and got me. In for the x-ray and quickly back out the door.

8:30 a.m. done and on my way home!!

Everyone was very friendly, helpful and considerate.

Canadainterview questions leaving tomorrow
When I was there (Montreal), I arrived early..first in...first out. There are vending machines once you get in so take change...and there are washrooms as well. Remember you have to go through Security such as that as an airport. Sounds like you have the kid's entertainment figured out. Most important of all..relax as they are very helpful and friendly in there..just double check to ensure you have all your paperwork..better to much then not enough. be honest when answering questions..you will be fine. Good Luck and All The Best To You.
