US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLondon medical Question & thank you!!
The medical for K1 visas is 170 pounds. I have no idea if it'd be the same for other visa types.

Apparently you can call ahead and book your medical if you have your London case number. I guess I'm old fashioned, just going to wait until we receive the instructions to do so (via packet 3). Thus, I've not looked up the number for the Knightsbridge Doctors yet. Looks like we're about a week behind you (NVC sent our case over on 3/29). :)

I have known people to recieve an interview date and then contact the embassy to say that date was not convenient for them - and they were assigned a new date. So that's a definite possibility for you (if it comes to that).

This may help too:

Why do they need a credit card number to book the medical???

Is it possible that other visa types require that you have the interview date before booking the medical? Seems illogical but maybe the person answering the phone knows only one frame of reference, so to speak.

Whomever you spoke with is, to my knowledge, very misinformed.

I'd try to call back at another time and speak to someone else. Or, lie and tell her your interview date is May 3rd. :P

I do know that the London embassy was closed on both Friday and Monday for the Easter holiday - so that may be part of the delay.

They will tell you what to bring (via packet 3). Obviously you'll need the originals of the documents in your petition, and your (physical) NOA2 as well.

That link has some more info as well. Isn't VJ informative?

Well, Chas got his medical booked today - its next Friday, 4/20 at 2:15 pm. :D He said its the one at Basil Mansions - that means nothing to me. I'm not worried about the 90 pound thing - doesn't sound like it will come into play at all anyway.

I remember those forms from the embassy being so...weird.

I love the male form thingy with the tribe thingy

Yes, I've been in many tribes in the UK.

Plus, is it then ok for the WOMAN to be in a tribe?!

Because it says, "clan or tribe", I told my husband to write in, "I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod", and be sure to take his sword to the interview with him. I'm sure they'd appreciate it. ;)

 What's funny is that Chas has Scottish heritage on both sides of his family, and his (second) middle name is STRICTLY Scottish. Perhaps he should answer that question in a similar fashion - I'm sure they'd love that!

I think Timsdaisy is right about the form - answer it how it is asked. If they think by now that he is still married, then obviously we would not have gotten this far (aside from the fact that he'll have his original absolute divorce decree with him).

Still find it a bit of an odd question, though (at least for fiance visas).

Do a big fat N/A on there then!

I'd be fine with that - IF it didn't say 'even if divorced or separated'. That's the bit that's throwing me off!

Interesting on the locations. And the fee went up as of Apr 1 (or so the form said - I think there are some here who got charged 170 before April 1...!)

Ok - another question for K1ers. Looking at form DS 156, question 18 says to give spouse's name (even if divorced or separated). If you've been married before, do you really put the ex's name there? That seems retarded to me, even with the question before that asking your status (where you'd obviously put divorced).

The example form on VJ - their status is 'single' so its of no help.

 I vaguely remember a question like this, confusing! I think we finally went with current spouse, yet the whole even if divorced or seperated bit made no sense...... isn't your spouse if you are divorced now is it?  :P

Grats on getting your next step underway!

Bethanie

That makes more sense if you're already married to the USC - but if you're fiance/e's - not so logical!

I didnt! But I only just sent mine back! I assumed it was just for people who are currently married because there isnt anything about how and when the marriage was terminated.

I know - I found that odd, too. But it DOES say 'even if divorced or separated' - which is what made me ask.

I know someone out there must know the answer! :)

Congrats on the arrival of Packet 3. I had My medical within the last month......no sputum test.

Thanks chelseafan - that's the sort of data I wanted.

Timsdaisy - that is about all I can figure. But if we are right, you think they'd not put that charge where it appears to be mandatory.

He also found it funny that he has to enclose a sheet to 'explain' tobacco use. Either you smoke or you don't, I would have thought!

At this point, they could include a sheet saying there's a potential 50 pound charge for having him put on a tu-tu and dance around the x-ray machine for 5 minutes and you'd pay it anyway, right?

;)

Maybe it's all just to see if we're still paying attention by the time we get to those packets or if we've just given up using any actual thought.

Oh absolutely! It wasn't a whinge - just wanted to know if we needed more cash in hand then we had planned on taking.

And yes - maybe it IS to see if we're awake...!

I have no idea! That's why I thought I'd come ask the wise folks here.

Also he said there are 2 facilities at which you can have the medical done - they tell you which one to go to when you book the appt. Is that new too? They're both called 'Knightsbridge'. Or maybe only one of them does the K visa types?

Chas just phoned to say he got packet 3 today. :D

Looking over everything, he had one question about the price list that they enclose for the medical. They list the 170 pounds fee, the 85 pound fee (for children), and then a 90 pound fee for 'bacterialogical examination of sputum'.

They don't list that 90 pounds as an extra - it reads as if 'you will have this done', but I don't remember anyone here mentioning that they paid more than the 170 pounds. So what gives? Is this a test they'd do if they discovered you had TB or what?

:) Cheers, tucsonbound.

Things are going by at LIGHTNING pace right now. We just today got the letter with the interview date - June 8th. :D Today is my fiance's birthday so that made it even nicer. Anyway that gives him all of May to start going through his belongings and trying to get things sorted out for the move. After the interview, he'll still have a few things to sort out (including selling his car - which he'll need to wait on as it is how he makes his living!). We got the interview letter right before he was heading out to work tonight so we've not sat down yet and postulated about when he might fly over, but I'm guessing end of June?

I am really enjoying my time here - mainly just to spend time with him. :) Not doing a lot of touristy things (you're right about the exchange rate!) but just being together is the main point.

Agreed. I gave my fiance the I 134, employer letter, a years worth of bank statements, the last 3 years worth of tax returns (plus W2s), and information about my retirement account and mortgage. I'd rather have him overprepared instead of underprepared. ;)

There's no way to predict how long it will take to get an interview, unfortunately.

But to give you an idea of recent action at London - we mailed back packet 3 and the checklist on 4/16. On 4/21, we received the letter with an interview date of June 8th.

If the USC's salary is enough (as $60k should be), there is no need to 'prove' what she has in the bank. Get the I 134 (notorized) from her, plus her employer letter. Just in case, bring either a bank letter or bank statements - but I doubt they'd ask you for them after they see her income.

Oh and :time:

I said more in the other thread, but this surprises me. Either NVC has gotten VERY slow, or CSC isn't sending them out after NOA2 nearly as quickly as they were.

Frankly, I'm starting to think its CSC that is the true culprit. They don't exactly break records for speed.

Or are any of those experiencing NVC slowdowns coming from Vermont?

Not to be 'spilling the beans' here, but Gone orders a police certificate regularly due to his line of work.

Ever since I read how quickly he received his, I've surmised one reason for the speed of the response was because his records have been researched previously.

In other words, most people should expect to wait 40 days.

That's true. He has to get one anytime his PCO license is due for renewal. Of course, we weren't sure at the time, so he applied for it before our NOA2.

I would definitely err on the side of caution and allow yourself the full 40 days.

Our police certificate only took 10 days to arrive, but I believe the norm is more like 40 days. If you've not applied for it yet, I'd get on that ASAP. You'll need it before you send back the checklist - and I believe they wait for that before finding you an interview date.

I'm not sure how to make this more clear. You need to list the old A number.

The fact that you'll get a new one through this process is otherwise irrelevant.

Is there something you're trying to hide from the time you had your other A number?
