Honestly I think Arial 2 works better - doesn't stretch everything into 2 lines.

Sparks - your last post seemed to remove my bio appt information and had no line for Allie & Leo at all. Not sure what happened but could you quote me and add to this instead? Thanks.

US Citizenship General Discussion5-year rule of applying citizenship

From the day she got her green card. The time of conditional residency counts towards total time as resident.

IF, only if - Your friend is STILL married to a US Citizn then she can - after 3 yars of having the green card apply for Natralization based on the relationship and any child under 21 will be a usc as well. If there is no no marriage then they can apply for natralization 3 MONTHS before the "5 year" mark starting from the PRINTED DATE ON THE I-551 (GREEN CARD)

US Citizenship General DiscussionInterview Result *June Filer*

Good Afternoon everyone...

I had my interview this morning, and I just wanted to post my experience...

My appointment was at 10:30, and I got called in just after 11. The IO officer was incredibly nice, and was happy and upbeat. I walked into the office, raised my right hand and agreed that I will only tell the truth.

He first asked me for my Passports, GC, and RI ID...(Driving license), he went over them briefly. He then explained the question process and went straight into them...they were,

Name one war from the 1900's
Who is the chief justice of the US now
How many members are in the House of Representatives
We elect a US representative for how many years
When do we vote for a president
Who was the first president

I answered all 6 correctly, he then asked me to read a passage for me speaking test, which I can't remember what was written, and the he handed me a pen and asked me to write "George Washington was the first President"

After that, we went through the application...I signed some forms, he stamped some papers and that was it...all done, it went real fast...around 10 mins in total. I took a stack of paperwork with me, 3 years of everything, but he didnt ask for any of that...so it was complete.

BUT...lol, always is one...my GC is valid from September 4th, today being the 1st...so he handed me a letter saying I passed the test, but a decision couldn't be made at this time, as I have to wait for the GC to be valid...Which he assured me that all should be fine unless I do something totally beyond the law in the next 3 days...I should receive the oath letter soon.

So, there you go...thank you for everyones help on this forum, I will post my oath date on the site as soon as I have it...Good luck to all the June filers, and everyone else.

Peace always...

How do you get a future dated Green Card..?

US Citizenship General DiscussionAlmost time to naturalize

Finally we are nearing the finish line. Within the next month or so we will be filing the papers to naturalize my husband. It's been a long journey for sure.

How long from the time you send the papers until the test/interview and what every else they do?

Do I have to be at the interview with him?

I really haven't done much looking into things so Im just starting out with this. Please help.

Once you send the papers off... he will do his fingerprints after about 1 month. Total time from start to finish is about 4-5 months.

You can go to the Interview with him if you would like BUT you can only go as far as the waiting area. You are not required to be at the interview - therefore will not be allowed to sit in. Depending on where you're located some offices have same day Oath Ceremonies which i think is really great.. Otherwise I think they send a letter in the mail saying the date you will go to the Court to get Sworn in.... which he can expect to be there from 2-4 hours depending on the # of applicants.

US Citizenship General DiscussionFast help please.

Hello.

i got some questions.

Now i wanna make sure what i am doing is right. it says on the top of N-400 form. so should i write all the form with Capital letter?

Print clearly or type your answers using CAPITAL letters. Failure to print clearly may delay your application. Use black ink.

2- Part 8. Information about your marital history.

G. How many times has your current spouse been married (including annulled marriages)? is this mean the past including the present? or just the past one?

=========

Thanks alot.

Yes just write in Caps... If you are able to - I'd recommend that you compelete the form on the Computer then print it off. They probably recommed CAPS because it's easier to make out as some people have a real bad penmanship..!!

Part 8, G. is asking for the past one.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship Eligibilty

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit confused here. I have been married for 4 and a bit years here to a US citizen. My permanent (10 yr) resident card was issued last year though. Before that I had the employment authorization card etc.

My question is, do you have to wait for 3 years after getting married, or 3 years after the date of the permanent resident card?

Yes you have to wait 3 years FROM DATE OF THE ISSUE DATE ON the Green Card andbe married with a USC at the time of the application/interview process/approaval or 5 years SOLO - which ever comes first.

On a side note, she is leaving me (very sad), and says that she doesn't want to have around for too long before filing for divorce. If I can get the citizenship now, not only will that buy me some time, before the divorce, but would I possible get in trouble if we divorced right after that?

No You wont get in trouble .. but don't be caught that you applied for USC then got a divorce like a month or so after.. that could be seen as you were seperated and during the process you would have known of this since it would impact you (change of status).

Thanks so much for your help,
Dan

Yes my little brother who us now 14.. but by the time my mom is able to apply with the N-400 my brother would be 20 y/o.

Not even sure why the applicant has to pay that extra $80.00 for the N-400, was already done twice before and NO fingerprints are shown on the certificate and you provide your own photographs. With a green card, they take your photograph and your fingerprint is right on the card for that $80.00. The card is embedded in plastic, with the certificate, just a piece of ordinary paper, very easy to tear or get moisture damage with your photo held on by a tiny piece of double sided tape.

Ha...! This is funny I really wonder my self how the the cost for the N-400 is so dang High for Nothing.. because true we take own photos.. and the documents that is received is not onethat would last...

Some said there photo had a piece of plastic laminate over their photo, must be field office dependent on how they attached the photo. Ours is easy to rip off, especially if you jam it in carelessly into the envelop. Oh, that was our envelop, don't even get that.

So with the over five year N-400 application, do you, or do you not have to submit the last three years of your tax returns, or transcripts.

If the USCIS still wants to see W-2's, not keeping up with the IRS, for filing on-line, you have to type in your own W-2's now.

Ok.. do not send any tax information with your N-400 application. This info is not requested filing at the 5 year mark.

Any child you have who are LPR WILL become a USC if they are under 21 years of age....!

Also when do you plan to send off your application..??? I will send off my N-400 on friday, 10/8/2010.

Call IRS and get free copies of your tax transcripts. Takes about1 week and each year is only a couple pages.
They are more valid than returns as they prove you filed where returns don't.
800 829 1040 24/7.
No need send in W2s also when you send transcripts.

I agree with Dakine .

The Tax Tranxcript are better it inturn saves you from going through and printing off your W-2s

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 for Divorced 10 year LPR

Hello everyone

Just to make sure of what to send in with N-400

I have been a LPR for over 10 years, single and divorced from a US citizen

So the things to send in seem so much easier from someone who is married:

Divorce Decree
2 Photos
N-400 application
Fee

Only if you're still married do you have to send in IRS tax transcripts, mortgage forms, joint acounts from what I understand. Is this correct?
Ironically it seems easier to apply if you're divorced!

Divorce Decree
2 Photos
N-400 application
Fee
copy of green card - front/back

if you're married and applying for citizenship based on the 3 year requirement then yes proof of relationship are required. you can also be married to a USC for say 6, 7, or 10 years etc but not required to submit tax transcripts, loan accts... etc.

thanks a lot - 16 views and not a single comment.

OP you m.u.s.t be patient. Keeeep in mind that while 16 view to the post and not a single doesn't mean a bad thing...... They probably don't have the answer.

To answer your question, it matters not if the USC is present at the interview. Even if the spouse is present it's a 95% chance he/she won't be allowed in... He/she can't help...

Question that are asked are:

1. Name of president
2. Name of state governor
3. How man house of representatives etc.

Read and Write Certain sentence.

There will be no part the usc will play and probably won't be asked and question except..."how are u today" is allowed to enter. ITS A DISTRACTION....

Goood luck.

US Citizenship General DiscussionHelp with question 33 of N-400

@RICARDO4EVA2
Thanks for your Reply, so just to clarify, My Obligations with the U.S. start right after my I-485 (adjustment of status) is approved and not from the date my Green Card says I became a permanent resident??
The Date I became a permanent resident (on my Green Card) is July 15th 2005, I was already 26 at that time

definitely, it's no problem.

Ok u were already 26 when the card was issued...(residence since) You're exempt. Nothing prior to the said date is really important.

Sorry for the delay. I'm out shopping and stock a break to use my phone's internet.

US Citizenship General DiscussionHelp with question 33 of N-400

Hi, I am applying for US Citizenship and I was not registered for selective service.
My I-485 was approved when I was 24 but apparently I was not registered for Selective Service as the I-485 says, at that time I was under a F-1 Status and now the school I went to, doesn't have a record of my I-20. I became a permanent resident and remained a full time student after I was 26 years old already, but since my I-485 was approved when I was 24, I'm wondering what to answer to Question 33 in the N-400 "Are you a male who lived in the United States at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays in any status except as a lawful nonimmigrant"
Obviously I was under F-1 but I don't have how to prove it now, besides showing my school transcripts but no I-20, will Immigration buy it????

The answer to your question will be YES. You were a F-1 status and adjusted status at 24. So the time from 18-24 your were NOT elegible or even required to register since you has NO obligatioins to the U.S. When you became a Resident at 24 the and up to your 26th birthday you ARE required to register.. these are someone the terms/conditions to liviing in the USA and knowing the full rights/Oblications other than just having a green card.

Now you'll have to do is submit a letter stating why you did not register for the Selective Service when required.

interview is typically assigned 30-60 days after finger print.. for a date that maybe 1.5 months away - good thing is there are few offices that do same day oath.

I'm just curious... You seem to have bad taste in mouth about US big time... So if it doesn't really matter much to you, then why did you even bother to pay all the money and apply for citizenship...?

hahahah   really wish I could say more.. you said it right WHY bother...

It's good fun - but a Naturalized citizen will never be equal to 'natural born' so I don't expect too much...

Short lines at Seattle Airport and no GC to carry - that's about it.

I disagree they ARE equal here in the USA get ALL the same benefits. There is only one difference between between being Naturalized/Natural ... Cant become the US PRESIDENT.

they will .. they can hold any other job.. where did you gather your information..?

N-400 processing times of late has been consistent and processed within 5-6 months. If you're in a city that has same day oath ceremonies then even better...!

US Citizenship General DiscussionSame Sex Marriage and N-400
Canada DOES recognize it though so those persons interested can get their loved ones there.

I understand that.
I'm trying to help a woman who is a LPR for many years. She is legally married in California to another woman and is about to send in her N-400. In it, it asks for the martial status. She is married according to State law, but is she married in respect to the N-400?

Yes, but the spouse just can't get any benefit regarding immigration... But was legally married.

Good question... what about marriage with a same sex partner in countries that allow same sex marriage, like Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, etc...
Are you considered "married" for the US, since this is a very legal status??

SO IN THOSE countries that it's allowed that's kool.... But they can't get any benefit where U.S Immigration is concerned.
