Thanks for the "goodluck mesage" guys. Interview was easy as expected. Got in there at 7.35 AM, was called in around 8.15, and was out in around 10 minutes. The interview was just the officer reviewing the documents submitted and i was asked 6 of the civil questions which i answered correctly.

Funny thing is that their network was down, and the first thing the interviewer told me was that "If successful today, we won't be able to schedule you for a oath ceremony as our network is down." Well, i got a letter showing that i passed and that he will recommend me for approval to come for an oath within the next 60 days.

I asked the officer what the schedule was llke for oaths and was told they don't have one this month, but that they have for May, June and July. He also said i will probably be in the next batch in May and to bring my PR card to the oath.

Excellent - glad u were successful ..

Well, the interview was a piece of cake. Wife passed. In and out in like 15 mins. However, we won't be in town the week they scheduled the interview. Have to reschedule, which of course, they couldn't just do right then and there since this is the USCIS we're talking about. So right now we have no clue when the oath will be! :-) Oh well.

Does anybody know anything about setting up a private ceremony? I remember reading a post about somebody doing it, and it was in Boston (where we are).

Nice.....

I hope he knows that if he is no longer married to the US citizen through which he emigrated, he'll have to wait until he has been a permanent resident for 5 years to apply (instead of 3) for citizenship.

US Citizenship General DiscussionTimeline
It all depends on your local office and how busy they are, and what their process is (never heard of a 'yellow letter' until reading your post). But it sounds to me like your local office has your case (assuming the 'yellow letter' is from that office) - meaning you're eligible for an interview. They just have to find a slot of time to conduct the interview.

US Citizenship General DiscussionTrips outside the US
Thanks Kathryn. I had breezed through the guide yesterday when they asked me but I obviously wasn't paying close enough attention. I do think that the N 400 instructions and the form itself kind of confuse you when they essentially say two different things. I'll let them know! :)

US Citizenship General DiscussionTrips outside the US
Sorry if this has been asked here before, but if it has, I didn't find it (or am too brain addled today to have found it. :P It seemed like similar questions have been asked but none that match this exact situation.

I have 2 coworkers who want to apply for citizenship but have been LPRs for 20+ years. What's stopping them from filing is part 7 of the form, letter C which says to list all trips over 24 hours long outside that US that you have had since you became an LPR. Obviously they can't remember all of them and don't have their old passports anymore. When you read the N 400 instructions for part 7, letter C, it says to list trips outside the US over 24 hours in the last 5 years. So which is it?? LOL. Has anyone in this situation just listed the 5 years worth of trips and had any issues with it once getting to interview?

Thanks in advance. :)

US Citizenship General DiscussionOld citizenship??

I want the French system. They have 4 times as many doctors per head of population than the Brits but they do speak French to you. I have been in a German doctor's surgery - very nice too. I have been in an inner city hospital in the UK which was 3rd world and a total disgrace. I left and went to a hospital in a 'nice' area 12 miles way and it was US standard.

Actually the UK system is totally 100% free if you don't work because you are disabled or old or mentally ill or craftily self - employed or yes...work shy. 'From each according to their ability, to each according to their need' and all that.
Every old person gets 100% free health care with no co pay or deductibles whether they have ever worked or not. No enrollments, no part A and part B - no supplementary insurance - no throwing you out of hospital after 6 weeks - that's a good thing and a huge saving in admin.

Many old people in the US shoot themselves which is an option not available in the UK

Interesting - shame about them speaking French, though. :P

Yes, I knew it was free in certain circumstances. But for the majority, it certainly is NOT free. But not having to worry about costs in your dotage is NICE. Where in the world did you hear that about being thrown out of a hospital after 6 weeks?? That's a little harsh, even with our system. Most hospitals are willing to work with families to pay back what they owe over time. Would be nice if you didn't have to worry about that - but alas! That's just part of what's so poorly broken.

 at that last bit.

US Citizenship General DiscussionOld citizenship??
You'll get no arguments from me about the slippery slope all Americans are on for health care. Our system is far from ideal, but I also find the UK solution to be less than great too. I wish a happy medium between our two systems could be found and implemented.

I just know that MANY Americans are under the false impression that UK healthcare is free. We burst that bubble for a waitress just last week who was sure that's how it was there. Just wanting a little truth in advertising, that's all.
TracyTNFemaleUnited Kingdom2010-11-09 12:25:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionOld citizenship??

Until the U.S. has free universal health care, there is no way I would give up my U.K. Citizenship. It could mean the difference between life and death or at least being reduced to abject poverty. My red passport guarantees that can never happen to me.

I like life in the U.S. but only so long as I am reasonably healthy and the insurance is paying up. I feel sorry for Americans who have no safety net were things to go badly wrong with their health and the insurance company stops coverage or wriggles out of the contract...

Most Americans simply refuse to think about it. My USC wife is deeply aware of this reality and plans on doing 3 years in the U.K. and getting a red passport when she early retires. She lived there for a year and didn't pay a cent - or even a penny. It is worth literally millions of dollars or even life itself in some circumstances.

If the U.K. started to refuse dual citizenship I would withdraw my U.S. Citizenship application right now. I reckon a lot of Canadians would too from what I have read.

I hear you, Alan, though I get a little annoyed seeing health care in the UK deemed as 'free'. 11% of your income (last time hubby checked) is NOT free, and is still more than I pay for my private healthcare through my employer (for myself, my husband and our child). Though it is free in the UK for those in certain circumstances.

Hubby's natz oath was today in Nashville. It was interesting and took longer than I thought it would - mainly getting everyone checked in. 60 folks from 23 different countries (hubby the only UKer). Got there at 7:30, left around 9:45 all told. Got piccys with the judge and all that. The natz certificate is pretty cool. Probably need to get a safety deposit box now to put it in, eh?

Congrats to everyone - hope those still waiting have short waits. :)

Apprently while I was on F-1 and got a Driver licence in alabama they managed to register me for select service. I looked dumb :o she said thats not normal

Hubby's interview was today - he passed with flying colors. Only needed 6 questions. Shame of it was we got there at 9:30 for a 9:50 appt and he wasn't called back until 10:35! That sort of sucked but the rest was great. I was nearly giddy pulling up to the office, LOL. Guess I just can't hide being an immi nerd. :D

She told him they didn't have oaths scheduled yet for December (in Nashville) so it may be after the first of the year. But I guess we'll wait and see.

Happy and excited for the oath though!!

Not all offices do oath ceremonies, and even those that do may not have the capacity for them on the same day. In our case, we can have the oath in Nashville instead of trekking back 3 + hours to Memphis for it. I assume oaths can be taken in Memphis but I'm not sure if it'd be at their rather small office or a courthouse somewhere.

Agree with Derekkj. Timeline tracking is great but it can also make you paranoid sometimes when there may well be no reason to be paranoid. Esp. with something like variations from local office to local office. I think there's probably less discrepancies when talking about service centers - but local offices seem more all over the place to me. But, if there was a way to contact the local office and get a response, I don't think that'd hurt either.

That's about what we experienced. It's not a perfect science because it really depends how backed up the local office is (or how backed up they AREN'T, as the case may be).
