I can't believe that it only took me 87 days to get my citizenship. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your wife. Hopefully she gets same day Oath Ceremony too.


Yes I agree with the post above that some offices move much faster than others. I applied for my citizenship on Jan. 31, 2011 and got my fingerprint and interview assigned .... All within 20
Days...

I want to know if there is any kind of notice ( post interview decision /Approval Notice) the USCIS sent to the applicants address after N-400 interview OR its only the Oath appoinment letter ones expect for the Oath ceremony.

I would say no and the "oath" letter serves as approval since it is only issued if the case was approved.

Today was my interview and I couldn't have imagined it going any smoother.

The whole process took about 15 minutes and I was out of the office and on my way before my scheduled appointment and stopped for some true Memphis BBQ. Now I just need to wait for my oath letter and I'm all done!!


hello there Congratulations .. I'm truly glad to see this post and that you were apart of it. i also am in the jurisdiction for the Memphis, TN office so i will have my interview there. I noticed you have your interview in about 3 months after you started. I was some what puzzled because as of 2/14/2011 uscis's website says they are processing cases filed July 16, 2010 or before which would made the processing times like 7-8 months but it seems the 4-5 month processing is in place.

As someone who "retired" from work around age 40, with a husband who is retiring from the military aged 42, the citizenship versus green card issue is becoming relevant to us. We would like to spend a few years in England before we decide where to permanently settle, and this generates the "do we want to go through the spousal visa route AGAIN? or go for citizenship that may have no relevance if we decide to live in the UK permanently.

Yes, renewing the 10 year card is easy. Yes, we could seek a re-entry permit in advance if we were certain it was a temporary move, but with the uncertainty of the future it's a very pertinent question. Citizenship guarantees the right to return, without any hassle or additional paperwork. In the long term it's more cost effective than endless renewals of the green card. The only disadvantage to citizenship is the tax return requirement. :)

Tax requirements isn't only for US Citizens but for LPRs too.

My mother came here in 1965 and thought her green card never expired. Back then the cards were indeed green and did not have an expiration date on it. She registered every year at the post office as required. Well then she went to Canada in 2005 and on the way back was stopped by Customs because of her old GC. She eventually got in but it was quite the hassle and she had to start the GC process again for a new card. She asked me about becoming a citizen instead because it was such a hassle.


Well that could have been avoided... While persons with the UNEXPIRED green cards are still legal.. USCIS had asked patrons to turn it in for the NEW cards which are for security purposes... While i'm not researching it now.. it might have gone into notice before they even launched the new card. She was stopped at the border and placed in Secondary for questioning..... That can even happen with the new green card.. or even when you have the temp. proof of evidence stamp in the passport.

You don't have to do anything you dont want. N-400 is a priviledge that's why some people get denied even after ROC is approved.

No, you don't have to. It's a privilege, not something you have to do. You can remain a LPR all your life.

I'm just curious- does one have to proceed to citizenship after ROC or can you just stay in perm res status with a green card until the end of your days? I recognize the benefits to being a citizen but I was just curious if one HAS to continue to citizenship.

dont have to apply for Citizenship... it's not a right to have.

Went to my interview yesterday and passed. The wait was minimal (which for LA is a big thing), but my interviewer was a bit frantic. He did not ask me to sign the back of my pics - did any of you have to sign them as in the instructional video? Waiting for the oat letter now... Good luck to all of you!

I'm back guys...
I'm so happy you guys are moving forward...that's just great news..

Myself today I only just done my us passport after having my oath cert 4wks in hand..had more pressing things to do.
Anyways I went to the main post office. Downtown then only to find out being it was my first us pp
I had to make appointment which I did for today...filled out the application kinda straight forward
Gave 2 pp pics then ask for my DL so she made a copy plus she took my ucs cert...she told me I shall have this back with my pp
Ask me to swear on oath....then payed my money $110 plus $25 admin fee..#######...more fees?
Plus taxes and all bill was like $138
Anyways that's it....just wait for my us passport finally...oh yep update my status as the ss office I guess

My Oath Experience was great. They had 2 oaths on both days 5/19 and 5/20 one at 7:30a the other at 11:30a. I was set for 5/19/11 at 7:30a. Left my house at 7:15am and got there at 7:45a 90% of the people were there who were to be sworn in. I had 3 guest there with me to see me through. After being there for about 10-15 minutes my name was called and I went towards a table at the front where I gave the Immigration Officer My Interview Letter and Green Card. After which i went to a second lady who asked me to sign my Certificate in her presence using my full name with a black in pen provided. I was given a white envelope that included things like - voters registration card, passport app., a welcome letter from the president and other things. You were seated in a certain other so that after the ceremony the cert. would be given to you in th order seated. There were 62 people from 28 countries - The majority of people were from Korea, China, Egypt and countries on that side of the world. There were about 5 persons from Canada, 1 from Great Britain, Panama, Nigeria, 2 from Jamaica and so on. Before the Judge , State Representatives etc where seated They did several trial runs of HOW the ceremony will work. It was funny to see how people seem to cannot follow basic English instructions. During the practice run we were advised to Stand up ( face the judge as he was there) Say your name and the country where you are from. Hmmm took many a while to do this. just made me wonder how the hell they made it through the process.n Clearly 1/2 of them could not speak English if u ask me.

The ceremony finally started at 9am and was over at 930a You were allowed to take pictures, record with any device including a mobile phone however could not text, use it for calls while in the court house. It lasted for 2 hours without any delays. FYI - i went to the SSA office at about 1030a to update my file and the office said that they have not received the updated info from DHS an there for i'm to wait 10 days before my status could change because they can only change the info if they can verify it against their system.

I just had an infopass appointment today. The lady at the counter was real nice. My concern was that I was stuck again in that dreaded namecheck/background check that delayed my LPR by over 9 months. For those who don't know this is not same as fingerprint check which is usually done in a day and you can call FBI to find that out. The namecheck/background check can only be obtained by sending fax/mail to FBI or by doing Infopass. This is why Infopass is so useful. Today the lady told me that every background checks are clear and I'm just waiting in the queue to get the interview letter

Atlanta has a little traffic thats all




Hopefully this infopass shakes things loose a little from those stacks of documents that are pending. I hope everyone else that are waiting get their interview/oath done soon as well.

Had my interview 2 days ago and it went well, passed my test and only spent a total of 15 mins in my local USCIS, not even a waiting time.. my schedule was at 1030 but the officer called me in at 1015, and i got there at 1014... Thanks for the "goodluck mesage" guys. Interview was easy as expected. Got in there at 7.35 AM, was called in around 8.15, and was out in around 10 minutes. The interview was just the officer reviewing the documents submitted and i was asked 6 of the civil questions which i answered correctly.

Funny thing is that their network was down, and the first thing the interviewer told me was that "If successful today, we won't be able to schedule you for a oath ceremony as our network is down." Well, i got a letter showing that i passed and that he will recommend me for approval to come for an oath within the next 60 days.

I asked the officer what the schedule was llke for oaths and was told they don't have one this month, but that they have for May, June and July. He also said i will probably be in the next batch in May and to bring my PR card to the oath.
