had my Interview yesterday (3/31) in Memphis,Tennessee for my Citizenship.... the interview lasted 15-20 min and it was very easy. The officer I interacted with was very professional and courteous... She smiled and asked me personal questions when I made an inquiry about the process...

Thanks to the many who sent me the "good-luck" and the well wishes... I got them all while I was driving to Memphis and After my Interview I appreciate you all. Below you will see a link to the review I posted as I hope it will be of benefit to the next person who will soon make the trip to Memphis. I'm still going to be on VJ so Sus&Sull I'm here.. least UNTIL my lil brother gets done with those people then my status WILL be questioned..

US Citizenship General DiscussionA decision can not be made at this time!! Ughhh!

Hi everyone on visa journey! It has been a long five years to get here! Just when i thought it is over, this happens! Anyway had my citizenship interview yesterday at the seattle office. The IO asked me if i was nervous and i said a little and thats when he started asking me what do i have to be nervous about? Duh! this is the most important day of my visa journey! Anyway he swore me in then asked me questions on my application. For some reason he dwelled more on my marriage, whether we lived to together, asked me for proof. I had bank statements, my kids bithcertificates, lease , will, some letters addressed to both of us, car insurance and he said one of the bank statements was incomplete. Anyway he handed me a note saying i had passed the civic questions but then one box was checked "a decision cannot be made i will receive a written descison in the mail" What does that even mean? Does anyone have a similar experience? Does that mean am denied? Thank you all for your responses?

No need to be nervous.. it's so much easier than all the other interviews. You were not denied.. But seemed to be passed on to a Supervisor for a case review and final decision. I suppose the officer was not able to be convinced.

Here's to a positive thinking, feedback and result. Posted Image

It wont take you much time to get the receipt. But to get a new GC, you will have to wait months.

Posted Image and the receipt would be taken to the interview. the person'a status would be extended a year or given temp. evidence until the process is completed.

Apply for another one..

you're not able to complete the process without having the document which is verified at the interview and turned over at the time of the ceremony. you are not likely to get it before the process is completed however yo would have had the necessary docs showing that you applied.

US Citizenship General DiscussionSelective Service Card?

I'm getting all the documentation ready to file and I saw that an IO asked for the Selective Service card in one of the threads.

I checked the Selective Service website and found my registration information, but do I need that card as well? I'm no longer under 26 so would I'm not sure if I can still request one.

Help! lol

I had an interview about 3 weeks ago and i was asked to show mine. I am currently 26. You can ago about proving this at the time of the interview by going back to the site and printing off the information/records showing when you registered/registration # you can also speak with a customer service personnel who can send one out to you. They send out mails a few times each month.. it's not a call today .. sent tomorrow kinda service . so do both.

US Citizenship General DiscussionSON will be 5 years resident in June this year

My 21 yo son is going to be 5 years legal resident this June. When can he start applying for US citizenship? What INS form should he use?

Thanks in advance.

Mrs. Treasures

if he became a resident in June 2006 he can apply for US Citizenship 3 months befor the 5 year mark so March 2011. He would be eligible to apply now.
He will use the form N-400 and you can review the information at this link to provide him with more information - http://www.uscis.gov...00045f3d6a1RCRD

US Citizenship General DiscussionN400 mistake reagdring voter registration
hmmm.. unfortunate and i would advise to consult with an immigration attorney because you claimed to be a US Citizen. I understand that you're saying this was done in error .. but it still does not matter.. even if you did not vote. same could be said about requesting a SSN as a US Citizen while you're not getting any immediate benefit.. but made the "claim" to be one. One member said to explain that you were excited to get your Driver's License back in 2006... that's BS .. because even in the mist of issues and success we are still required to properly follow the conditions of the PR card.

If i were you I would withdraw my petition and and reapply so to not be denied with the appropriate selections. You can keep the case going but should be certain to engage a lawyer. if you are denied.. you're able to apply in the future.. you could be placed in deportation proceeding but just cant see the extreme since the claim was made but no actions were taken. If denied i would engaged a lawyer when you would renew your greencard.

NO... i dont think there is any deep search... didn't obtain your LPR status via marriage so no deep questions there.. but you will be treated in detail if you have background issues.

US Citizenship General DiscussionGC holder and wanted to apply a US citizenship

Hello everyone. I am a green card holder for 7 years now, and i am planning of filing my citizenship, by the way I came here as an immigrant visa through my mom. My dilemma here is that last 2008 i got convicted of a misdemeanor for a domestic violence, and I would be able to expunge my record this coming june exactly after 3 years of under summary probation. Now my question is that, If i will succesfully expunge my name and erase my records do i have to tell the USCIS that i was convicted of a misdemeanor? What I am afraid of if i will tell them about it is that they might deport me or something. I am not sure if that expungement thingi will totally erase my record and that even the USCIS can't even find out about it. I've been thinking about this lately and it makes me stress. What should I do? Is there any lawyer out here? Or anyone who has any knowledge or the same situation that can give me ideas about what to do.Please help. Any advice, ideas, is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Pls ask me any questions if you want more info or if i am missing some info that u need to know.
pilang

You likely will not get deported - worst thing is you will be denied citizenship and you can seek to renew your green card and you will have the burden of proof for the act/s of violence that you choose to accept. You should .. you must tell USCIS of this information - hello you've been a resident for 7 years shouldn't you know this...? That's one reason to be denied - the only part the lawyer can - maybe help you in is the "moral character" however if you have not been all the way good then that too can go against you. Filing taxes, paying child support etc.

Best to you ...go and find a lawyer and hope you have learned from this to avoid unnecessary stress.

US Citizenship General DiscussionHave you ever claimed to be a US citizen

Should I still have my bank change it? Can't hurt can it? Or just let it go? Or say screw it and just extend my GC every ten years? :(

I could seriously kick myself...

Edit: the best part is - there was no reason for the guy to check 'US citizen' in the first place - mortgage plan was just fine for LPR's...

RICARDO4EVA2MaleJamaica2011-06-12 19:05:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionHave you ever claimed to be a US citizen

LPR, not registered to vote. When I renewed my license with the DMV last year, I had to show my Green Card and additional paperwork was done as far
as I remember.

Like I said - the bank thing was the only screw up. And please don't think I was trying to blame anyone other than myself.
I should have paid more attention. But hind sight is always 20/20.

So do you think if the bank rectifies this error/mistake/foul up on my part in their system, I should be good?

I seriously appreciate the feedback so far!

you will be okay if no other systems would show you as being a US Citizen or claiming to be one.
RICARDO4EVA2MaleJamaica2011-06-11 21:12:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionHave you ever claimed to be a US citizen

I have never claimed to be a US citizen... but you did
Of course the application has my signature on it... Your signature authorized the form why sign it knowing the info noted what if they put you were a BrazilianCitizen would you have signed it just the same... i think not.

It's his handwriting on it. I even remember that I signed with a different color pen. Not that I think this
will make any difference or will it? Naah it wont

Should I get in touch with my bank and have it changed? Is that even possible? I'm sure that is possible yes that is simple an update to the bank's records.

Question number two - does a small claims court ruling need to be reported on the paperwork? No+ no where on the from to put this plus 1/2 of the people around you have bad credit

Otherwise I've been an awesome guy all around. Posted Image

Honestly it is not likely to come up with the bank. What is your registration status with the DMV..? LPR? US Citizen? Are you registered to vote?

US Citizenship General DiscussionQuestion on N-400

I do not know about a question that asks you when you filed, or how, you filed, or if you filed late.
I only know about a question that asks you if you ever failed to file. The purpose of this question is to establish if you are on good terms with the IRS. So if you have filed your tax returns for 2008, for 2009, and for 2010, and you can prove it by submitting tax transcripts for all 3 years, you clearly have not failed to file taxes.

respect,, thank you.

US Citizenship General DiscussionQuestion on N-400

Hi, may I ask you what did you eventually write on your application? Yes, or No? I am in a similar situation, I filed late, but nevertheless, at present I am up to date with everything. Technically, I am inclined to say "No", because I did not "fail", I was just late.

Part 10. Section A, question # 4 I "No"

While I did not file at the time of the interview and case submission I was current. I simply provided the information for the requested years. I also owed taxed for the year in question and when I did eventually filed.. It "caused" question # 5 to br "no" as well because my taxes are current. I'm a US.Citizen today.
RICARDO4EVA2MaleJamaica2011-09-06 15:49:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionQuestion on N-400

I might recommend is you get tax transcripts from the IRS and see if there are any indications about your being late. It may be one way to go...

Nonetheless, even if you did indicate that you were late, but you eventually filed them and probably paid a fee or something, so you should be OK to naturalize. If you fail to file and you never correct it, then you have a wrinkle in your path to naturalization.

uThank so much

Updated on my wife interview.

It was almost a happiest day ever but it was not. She has to come back for a re-interview. She passed all reading/writing part of the test but somehow when the officer asked her about something to the effect of how did you meet your spouse" or somthing similar she wasn't able to answer, Officer said wait right here, I'll be back.

By the way, my wife has limited communication with outside world beyond her next door neighbor.

when Mr Officer return after consulting with his upper, he told my wife to come back in 2 months for a re-interview of the Understanding English...unbelieveble.

Now I am scramble to prepare her for the ultimate interview.

I guess lesson learned USCIS can failed you for not understanding the a few questions they throw at you. and conclude that the applicant does not understand enough to naturalized.

Officer did not ask even on piece of evidences she brouht along except for the green card.

My husband received form N-445 in the mail today stating that he will have his oath ceremoney in TWO days. We're relieved because I didn't want to wait too long for him to be sworn in since we're moving out of the country soon and he still needs to apply for his passport, but I'm surprised that he was only given a two-day notice.

Is that normal?

Updating due to oath ceremony on Friday....

TN_ Canadian, You are correct, TN is faster on the early stages, but when they get to Oath: WAY TOO SLOW. Nashville had 2 ceremonies on March 24 th and 25 th. I think they are trying to get everyone to thier closest Areas. We did walk in for my spouse FP on Feb 28 (charlote,NC). On March 2nd the online and text message for Case trasfered for Interview on April 07 (Memphis). We were shock that fast for Bio to update for IL. I am amptent to say that may be your parents and my spouse will be in the same Oath ceremony not the 2 months....wait. We will see,We will keep praying may be is SOON, and we can meet ON THAT BIG DAY...Hoping for the best.

Tennessee is fast all the way around... unless the applicant has issues and so causes a delay to competition I. have my Interview date on March 31, 2011 and I'm sure to be in the oath ceremony that will be on April 21, 2011 to make it 2 1/2 months to complete the process.

I updated below...Sorry for the delay. I had my interview yesterday (March 15th) in Orlando and it was VERY easy.
The ONLY thing the officer wanted was my 2009 tax transcript. He said my file and submission was perfectly organized with everything and I was the easiest and most straightforward case he had so far for the week. And imagine I was fussing and worrying so much and had taken soooooo much stuff with me to the interview!
My oath is scheduled for this Friday the 18th.

I can't believe that it only took me 87 days to get my citizenship. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your wife. Hopefully she gets same day Oath Ceremony too.

Yes I agree with the post above that some offices move much faster than others. I applied for my citizenship on Jan. 31, 2011 and got my fingerprint and interview assigned .... All within 20
Days...
