CanadaHow do I find out if "case is completed"?

Hi everyone,
I notice a few members' timelines have posted "case complete" and are now awaiting their interviews. Did NVC contact you with this case complete info? I submitted the DS-260 online and mailed the documents to NVC a week before Christmas. We haven't heard anything yet but now I'm wondering if we should be contacting someone to find out if the case is complete.
--Vancouverite

The NVC will not contact you to inform tou that your case has been completed (documents reviewed). There are 3 ways to finf out 1- go onto the webite where u paud your Immigrant Visa Fee and use your case and invoice #. 2- call the NVC and speak to the agent and ask him/her, 3- check the automated system for your case status (least favourite). Now once your case is completed you will be notified of your interview dat et and medical appointment scheduling .

Canadadaughter born in US Now what?

Hey guys,

Some of you may know i moved to US after getting married. Our daughter was born 4 months ago and I want to know if i can apply citizenship/sin/passport or anything else you guys may know. Appreciate your help. thanks

Now what..? Nothing just another American. You do not need to apply for anything for your daughter to get citizenship. You mentioned passport.. if you need one for her.. just take her long birth certificate to the nearest office.

CanadaTraveling to US After Interview Without Using K1

Sounds good. It looks like I should put off my interview as long as possible in this case. Do you get to choose your date or do they give you one?

The interview date is assigned and could be rescheduled if you contact the consulate at the time (afterwards)

may require a solid reason....!

.. Ok so if the case is still pending you may still travel with the "pass" that was referenced. You may just have to overcome any "intent to immigrate" if evidence is requested.

CanadaTraveling to US After Interview Without Using K1

Hello there, I was not expecting to get my NOA2 so soon but now I am actually a little worried about our good fortune. I am currently in school and set to graduate in August so it was no problem with these previous timeline; however, with the new one, I will not be ready to move down there right after the interview. My question is are you able to travel back and forth AFTER the interview without using your K1-visa? I have a Nexus pass, would I just continue using that to enter? I tried to search the forum with this but it kept bringing up traveling during the k1 process. Most people would be jumping at being able to enter US earlier.Steve

The K1 Visa is a ONE entry thing so cannot be used to travel to/from. If the K1 visa was issued and you will enter the u USA then it will be activated.. cant use the two visas

CanadaGreen Card Came no SS Card

You could have applied for a SSN the same day here 2-3 weeks after arrival.

this can be done the same day the person arrives in the USA. The process maybe slowed because the immigrant has to be entered into the SAVE system.

CanadaGreen Card Came no SS Card

Hey so my Green Card Came today super fast. But I still haven't received my SS card yet. When I went to the SS office they told me it will come from immigration. Is it normal for the GC to come before the SS? Is there a way I can get it with out waiting?

MORE THAN LIKELY>>> you will NOT get a social security card in the mail.. so welcome to the USA.. and you should go and join the line at the Social Security Local office and apply for it. The good thing is .. it will be much quicker for you to receive it since your immigration status can verified via the green card.

Canadano arrival record I-94 for I-130 form

Wow thanks everyone!! I am just starting down this road. You can bet you"ll be hearing from me again. Do you think it is imperative to get an immigration lawyer to deal with the process or is it ok to go it alone? I have a consultation on Monday to see we should go down the K visa or CR-1 visa route.

I would go alone unless you will have a complicated case i.e. Criminal History, Sought Visa/residency thru previous marriage etc.

Canadano arrival record I-94 for I-130 form

Hello, I am new to VJ so I apologize if I haven't got the etiquette/process down. I am a canadian in the US. I am going to marry my USCitzen boyfriend of 15 years. I travel back and forth between Montreal and NYC by car every couple of months. We finally decided to live in the same city (ie NYC )permanently so we are going to get married. I never get my passport stamped because I come by car so I don't have a Arrival record or I-94 which seems to have all the immigration consultants baffled. My last entry date was Jan 3 2012 but I have no proof of that. Can I assume that there is a record of my car license plate available at the border that I went through? Is the arrival record absolutely necessary ? Thanks

Your car license ..? Were you not processed..? What did you present to the people at the border. Normally if someone did not get a i94 document it can be requested by using - I-102, Application for Replacement/Initial Nonimmigrant Arrival-Departure Document.

Did they not stamp your passport..??

They have never issued I-94s (used to) to Canadian visitors. You don't have to worry about filling in the I-94 part just answer Canadian Visitor in the line provided on the forms.

The border keeps records of when you cross... They know every time I cross back into the US so I'm surprised they can't find any record.

yes the border (CBP) keeps track and the request is made thru USCIS

US Citizenship General Discussionwill misdemeanor affect status?
He should carry his green card with him at all times - it is a misdemeanor not to, although generally, people do not get cited for it. It is not cheap/easy to replace, but either scan it or make a photocopy of it in the event you do have to apply for a new one (but still need to prove your status). Better that than being stopped by police and needing it.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCan friends and relatives attend oath ceremonies?
Our baby to be will be quite small when his/her daddy takes the oath, so I will probably leave him or her with grandma. Besides, a friend of mine naturalized earlier this year and said there was very little room for friends/family in the room where it was done - so probably best not to have to tote a newborn in there as well.

CanadaChristmas Visit
Only a CBP officer can tell you yes or no. Do your best to prove to CBP that you will return home on Jan 3rd. All you can do is take proof of ties to home (return ticket, bank accounts, employer statement, a mortgage or rental agreement, etc etc) with you, and take your chances.

CanadaFYI

I guess on hindsight this might have been better in the Canada forum but my only concern was the possibility of somebody taking the answer as universal. Certainly you didn't intend that.

It would have been better there and perhaps some kind soul will do just that. My intent was to state what was said to me and me alone considering the circumstance for which the question was asked, and I think that the answer given was a valid one. I did screw up in my original post, sorry.

Moved to the Canada forum. :)

What Ron/Sharon - actually the consulate - is saying is, 'it's the CBP that decides whether or not a person can enter the USA, not a consulate, so ask them'.

CanadaSicko - Don't Cry - get angry and do something about it
Our system is clearly NOT perfect.

But after waiting 3 days in a UK NHS hospital just so my fiance could have his severed fingers LOOKED at, I'm not going to be championing the cause for national health anytime soon, either.

Surely there is a way to find a happy medium between the two systems - actually getting care when you need it and it not costing an arm and a leg.

CanadaFiance didnt get an I-94 upon arrival, what do I do?!
As far as I know, you're right, feather.

People who enter illegally and marry a USC/adjust status won't be 'forgiven'. I believe they would then incur deportation and a ban. In fact:

http://www.uscis.gov.../form/i-485.pdf

Who Is Not Eligible to Adjust Status?

You are not eligible for adjustment of status if any of the following apply to you:

You were not admitted or paroled following inspection by an immigration officer.

Someone who enters on a visa and overstays (say a K1 and doesn't marry during the 90 day period), then marries and then files for AOS will have to file the I 130 concurrently with the I 485 - at which time, the overstay is *usually* overlooked. (Personally, I'd never do it, and if I did, I'd get an attorney.)

CanadaFrustrated.
The 'argument' in that original thread started by a VJ 'old timer' taking exception to the misinformation in that particular thread, and also her comment that VJ is worse (in the sense of misinformation) than it used to be. Frankly, I concur with that.

Those of us who have been here for a while and may be through the process already (although I'm not quite!) DO still have valuable contributions to make based on years of reading various sources of ancedotal evidence. I think this site suffers now with the absence of some people (who were here LONG before me and know a he$$ of a lot about the process).

I do try to back away from posts that frustrate or irritate me, but I'm sure I haven't always been pristine in that practice (we all have bad days!!). I have often times been put in my place about one thing or another - sometimes gently, sometimes not so much! LOL. But I TRY to take things like that as a learning experience so that I can then 'get it right' next time.

Len, I hate that you have backed off from posting - I've been there myself, too, and I wish it weren't happening here. But several of us (yes, even 'old timers') have banged our heads against that proverbial brick wall one too many times. The tone and environment here, I'm afraid, just isn't going to change. At least not through any official capacities.

I think we could ALL benefit from taking a moment to think before we post - and either not post if we aren't completely sure of the answer (or say 'I think' or 'you may want to double check that') or if we are having a bad day (and know we are going to come across too snippy). Probably a bit too much to ask for, though (sadly).

I only made that last statement because its a fact - and I'm sure someone whose been around long enough like kk wouldn't leave over what ONE person said or did. Sum of all parts, and all that jazz.

Great. Just what I wanted. I thought this was going to be over but...

By the way I am a she. I will take responsibility for what I said in the original thread, but to feel like I should take sole responsibility for how it wound up, in my opinion, is unfair. I said what I said because of how I felt and I still stand by it. No one can really be 100% correct when advice is given in any particular situation. Therefore, in my opinion, it's not helpful for someone to say in a thread about how VJ has changed so much and that people are just throwing misinformation around if you take a look at the thread.. Wouldn't it be more helpful to correct someone in a polite manner and move on? But that is not what was done, At the time, that gave me the impression that A)since I was a part of that thread originally, what I had said was misinformation, that B)There are some members that are more credible than others for which ever reasons and C)That because I am new, as someone put it, that must mean that my opinion or knowledge base must be small and infinite.

I'm sorry I ranted here in the Canadian forum. I should, as I have said, just kept my mouth shut. My intention was not to offend, but to express my annoyance with some things and I shouldn't have done it.

I posted in that thread, too, but I didn't take the quote about misinformation as a slight on what I had said. Nor did I think that the comments made about misinformation were 'impolite'.

Threads at VJ go off topic almost more than I change my socks. I didn't see it as 'unhelpful' to point out the misinformation - in fact, it would be more of a detriment to not point out the inaccuracies. Obviously there is a tactful way to do that (ie no name calling, etc) and I thought kitkat was tactful about it. Horses for courses I guess.

Her loss will be considerable to VJ. sad.gif I know of no one more informed about waivers than kk.

Awhile ago I saw a person being told not to post again simply because he used the key phrase "I believe that..." in a response to someone's question. If we're asking posters to differentiate their responses between opinion and fact with the phrase "I believe that" or "it's my opinion that..." and yet they're getting belittled for doing what they've been asked to do, then how can they feel comfortable posting the next time?

Unfortunately, not everyone will see this the same way. I can appreciate saying 'I believe that' because to me, if I were the OP, that would clearly mean it was not a definitive answer.

But the next person who happens along may just focus on the wrong answer instead of the fact that they tried to alert the OP to their 'lack of correctness'. Which I agree, doesn't make one feel comfortable - but at some point, you have to just get over it. You're never going to be able to control other people's reactions to your best efforts.

I agree, Marilyn. I also don't think expressing frustration with misinformation should be seen as 'holier than thou'. If anything, its a courtesy to ALL VJers to ask folks not to respond if they are unsure about an answer.
