Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCopies of credit cards as evidence

Since my wife and I have a joint credit card account, I included front and back side copies of both our credit cards along with a couple copies of the credit card statements spanning 2 years.

I've read posts here over the years where some people choose to black out account numbers (fully or partially). It entirely up to you. I chose not to black anything out as I didn't want to give them a potential reason to send me an RFE.

I get people's paranoia regarding identity theft and fraud, however they are the U.S. Government and frankly they can probably find out this information anyway.

Just my two cents....


There's no reason they need your credit card numbers so I seriously doubt blacking them out would generate an RFE. Surely they understand the need to keep such things safe in the event the document gets into the wrong hands. Its likely true that they can get the information if they wanted it anyway, so why take the chance of advertising it on a piece of paper that could get lost?

We blacked ours out - both on the credit card statements and account numbers on bank statements - and it was no problem.

Aren't you guys sort of arguing the same point? Form I 94 is stapled into your passport, so your passport would thus be stamped, correct?

Essentially this is a race condition. The re-filing of the I751, 2nd biometrics, interview and approval by the USCIS vs. the scheduling of a case review with the Immigration Judge of the Justice Department. I am being told that the I751 process is faster and cheaper and will likely be completed before we ever get to Immigration court for the 1st time and certainly before any final hearing by the Judge. What a mess, all due to the reliance on the US Postal Service and a process that only attempts to contact you 1 time...


Even at that - the facts on the original I 751 would not have changed so when it comes to adjudicating the second one, wouldn't they require that the 'missed interview' issue be resolved?

Perhaps not, I'm just thinking out loud.

The attorney went on to advise that the best approach is to re-file the I-751. Once receipt is received from the USCIS, the Justice Department would not be able to issue a ruling.


I'm curious about the attorney's logic here. Did he/she explain that at all? I think it may be too early in the morning for me to be grasping it on my own. :lol:

If you do go that route, be sure and mention it to your congresswoman's office as well. They may let the Ombudsman research before they'll get involved. Personally I'd start with the congresswoman. Only because I think the ombudsman's office is pretty swamped.

They can shake things loose sometimes by putting in an inquiry. Just tell them your time line (as you've laid it out to us) and what the latest status is (basically stuck in some sort of limbo) and let them run with it.

Most senators/congressman's offices have a specific immigration liaison and the service center's have a team that does nothing but respond to their inquiries. In fact, I believe they're required to give a 48 hour turnaround on most requests (at least that's how it was when we used ours) - at least give them some sort of information.

Agreed - I would also apply for naturalization if you've planned to. It will 'force' adjudication of the I 751.

If you don't plan to apply for natz, I'd seek help from my senator/congressman.

It's so hard when you see new parents and want to offer some hints and tips. It's very easy to cause hurt and resentment. Sometimes the one trying to help doesn't go about it the right way, and sometimes the new parents can be overly sensitive and not see the good intent behind the suggestions because they read it as being told they're incompetent. But I can certainly see getting upset if they're going to be a ###### about it. lol


As a new parent, I am TOTALLY about hints and tips from those who have been there.

However - hubby told her before she even arrived (because she was already giving 'advice' w/out knowing a thing about what we were doing!!) that we were happy to have her ideas if we had problems with our daughter that we were having trouble solving. When she arrived, hubby told her we didn't really have any issues, so then it was as if she set out to create some for us.

He told her in that screaming match that her 'suggestions' come across like mandates and if we don't instantly adopt her idea, she gets in a huff and walks out of the room (which she did repeatedly). She of course can't see it that way but at least all we got after that was eye rolls and sighs. :lol:

Honestly - if she ever visits again, I think I may suddenly have to go out of town for work. LOL

Gawd - I feel your pain, though I can't imagine how bad it'd be to have her visit for THAT long - damn!!!

I always tolerated my MIL, even after her first visit here after hubby had emigrated. I was ready to strangle her at times, but she didn't tell us how to live our lives or whatever, so I grinned and bore it for two weeks.

This last visit, however - 6 weeks after we had our daughter - was a game changer. She basically told us that EVERYthing we did with our daughter was wrong - from rocking her to sleep to her getting the hiccups a lot (like we can control that!!). She and hubby had a SCREAMING match the second night of her visit about all her negativity and nagging. He told her to shut up about it and start being HELPFUL, or get on the next flight home. She didn't really say much after that, but I guess she thought we couldn't see the looks on her face, or hear her sighs when she disapproved (which was all the time). I have no desire to ever speak to her again on a meaningful level. I will always be kind and civil, but that's as far as I can go. Hubby actually told me he doesn't know how I could ever stand to speak to her again after how she acted, so he does understand. But I will always try to be the bigger person for his sake. He doesn't deserve to see us fighting like cats and dogs, so I'll keep my head about me at all times going forward. If she does visit again, I will dread every second of it, but will rise above it for hubby. Maybe I'll just have to work a lot. :P

I know people (Lisa included!) who love their MILs and have really close relationships with them. I have to say I'm kind of sad that I don't have that kind of relationship with mine. I would love to. :(

Go to the Usenet group alt.visa.us.marriage-based (aka BritishExpats) - you should be able to confirm from there that there are dozens of cases (as well as lawyer statements) that a late I-751 will NOT slow down and N-400.

You can file N-400 the second you are eligible -- regardless of the action or not on I-751.

No, but you DID say that the I 751 will hold up natz, which it will not. The answer to your question is in the results that were in my link. The N 400 would 'force' adjudication of the I 751. Often, they'll do them both on the same day as the
N 400 interview if need be.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but I don't see how that is a 'rip off'. The forms all come with instructions detailing the situations in which the form should be used. You sent the incorrect form and the money; they have no way of knowing that you've sent them the incorrect form until they begin to process the information, by which point your check has long since been cashed. That's their process, and its not a secret.

Educating yourself on the process is key when dealing with the USCIS - otherwise you can quite easily squander money or complicate the process further.

It shouldn't cause her problems getting a job - all the notation is intended to do is make an employer see another document proving she has authorization to work...which would be her green card (or card and extension letter).

I would still get it removed. It's not hard to do anyway - plus you are supposed to submit any changes in immigration status to the SSA. You'll only need to do it again if she decides to become a citizen.
