So I went to go see if I could edit my DS160 online today because I noticed I filled out a question wrong - the one about ever having a US visa before, I've received a B2 in my passport a couple of times, so I should've said yes.... and I wanted to change the picture and the amount of years I plan to stay from 10 to 75... at the end I realized it said that there was no way to edit etc. and that once you submit it is final - so oopsy...

Anyways, I ended up getting a new confirmation # and it's a new form, so I emailed them to tell them and make sure I didn't just really screw up my application! I hope it's not a big deal...

I also filled out the DS156 online, the link that was on the appointment letter. There are a few odd questions that I feel don't really pertain to us K1'er's but oh well, I just

No all I need to do is get my XpressPost envelope.

Jill - Is it a board rule? Maybe if you got permission from the board members, they can overrule it? I don't see how 1 dog per duplex is fair at all! Or maybe there is a fee you can pay?

Good luck to you SK&SP!! I'm sure it will be just fine!

This morning we booked our train and hotel. I'm super excited. It was a bit extra to take the train, but it will be nice to just relax and enjoy some time together and not be driving. Our hotel also looks pretty swank so I'm looking forward to that.

^^ That's interesting because the Packet 3 in November still had the old version.

On the appointment letter is says we need the Affidavit in duplicate, does that mean we need a photo copy or 2 notarized copies? We got one copy notarized, and can get another, but I am figuring they mean a photocopy?

Anyone know? I'm going to email them to check if no one knows, but I thought I would ask!

I only had one copy notarized, and brought a photocopy of it. That was sufficient.

Sweet! Thanks Jill!

I can't believe I'm at the final stretch!

Ya! You must be so excited just to have the interview part over, then can think about the big move!

I am very excited to get the interview over with. I feel like I still have a long time to wait as I'm not leaving my job until June to match our big client's fiscal year (how nice of me, LOL) but at least then I can start packing give my job notice and start the countdown!!

I'm also really pumped that we're planning a mini vacation to Montreal. Such a nice bonus.

I'm jealous - Having a Wednesday date kind of sucks, although I think we're just going to extend the weekend from Sat-Wed - I was just hoping for only having to take 1-2 days off work and not use all my vacation, but I guess 3 days isn't so bad either.

I don't mind using up my vacation days cause I can't cash them out anyway and I want to make sure I use my yearly allowance before I quit.

Another good thing about this time of year is that the hotels are dirt cheap -- I found a bunch on Expedia that were downtown for around $90 a night.

My fiance found some 4 star for $60 on hotwire... you don't know what you get, but generally its always good. We always use hotwire... and for $60 you can't go wrong, check it out!!

Congrats! Did just press 1 and 0? I tried that and keep getting a message saying that their office is closed.

I think they close for lunch, so I would just keep trying. I just pressed 1 and then 0, that's correct!

I just took a photo of myself against a white wall and cropped it in Paint and it worked. Took me a couple of times to get the size right, but the resolution and lighting seemed to be acceptable.

While I see how frustrating this process if, I'm not convinced that they are completely disorganized. Understaffed leading to errors, yes absolutely. When I put things in perspective, I can only imagine how many files they receive - not just for K1s, K3s, CR1s, but all around... in my opinion, considering its probably the hardest country in the world to immigrate to - I think getting a fiancee visa in less than a year is amazing. but I know that is only my opinion.

I'm actually worried that my interview is going to be scheduled in March, I have a few major work events happening... so I'm praying for April...

The DS160 is a link that you go to online and fill out the online form. The DS156K is a form you just write/type out and then send back to them. Sounds like you'll probably get a letter to fill out the DS160 too.

hmm pretty sure i went to that link filled it out online and sent it in, ill have to go through my paper work and see if i still have a barcode or what, i thought it said in the instructions to send in the entire thing including the barcode

You're probably good to go then. You could probably email them to be safe, but I bet they'll have your confirmation when you get there if you sent it in.

Important notice

Beginning October 22, 2008, all applicants applying for nonimmigrant visas in Montreal and Vancouver must use the new DS-160 application form, which is accessible on https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/.

After completing the new DS-160, the applicant will electronically submit the application and will be provided with a confirmation page that includes only limited biographical information and a bar code. Applicants must bring this confirmation page with them to their interview. Please note: if the online application has not been completed fully and properly the applicant’s case cannot be processed and a new interview appointment will be required.

This first pilot version of the DS-160 will only be available in English. Future versions will allow the user to see translations of the site in other languages, including French link

Thank you for that Trailmix smile.gif I haven't had time to go look at the form itself because of work, but it's good to know what is to be done smile.gif

Give yourself a good hour to complete it and have a scanned copy of your passport photo to upload. Also have the exact dates of your last 6 visits. Use the save button often. I timed out 3 times before I was finally able to submit the info!

Got my letter from the Consulate yesterday. I guess all that time I took filling out the 156 to send back to them was useless because now they need the 1-160 brought to the interview, as they are no longer using the i-156 forms tongue.gif They seem to change things often.

I have a question though, Bo sent me up a letter of intent, but it's dated Nov 20. Should I get him to send a new one up dates closer to my interview date?

HOw do they want you to bring the DS160? It's online... do they want it printed out? I don't get it. Unless there is a different version I can't think of...

I think your letter of intent is fine. Our original one was dated April 30th and we filed June 9th or something, so it was a couple months off.

CanadaName change back in Canada
Yeah, it's not that hard...if you assume a new name through marriage your birth certificate stays the same. Although I'm wondering if I would need to do the SIN and HC in person? I have the old red and white healthcard so I think I'm just going to keep it in my maiden name until I move back (if I ever do). I'll just leave my SIN too until I ever move back... I don't anticipate needing it again for a long long time.

I changed my Canadian bank account and that is it so far. I had to do that in person. I would like to change my passport once I renew into my married name... I haven't looked at the forms in awhile... is the long form the same as the old form? If so that's not too bad. Still a bit more of a hassle, but not impossible.

Is is weird that I kind of want to leave everything in Canada in my maiden name for sentimental reasons. I mean it's almost like I have 2 lives... moved here and changed my name, started a new life etc. My old life in Canada feels like a different part of me and I just don't want to let it go yet... Or maybe I just haven't full adjusted to my new name?? I miss my old name sometimes and feel good knowing that in Canada I'm still known by that old name.

NYC is quite lovely in the fall. It's cool, but not cold and I can still wear flats with no socks and skirts with tights and not feel cold at all.

It's not that much warmer than Toronto, but the nightly low doesn't seem to drop as much and that seems to make a nice difference.

I actually just started to wear my winter coat yesterday because of the wind, but I've actually been able to wear my fall coat for more than a couple of weeks this year, hooray!

I'd probably send back everything except the clothes to be safe. That way he can always claim the stuff as both of your stuff.

As for your camping trip and ties, I think you should be fine to show you have an interview for the K1 upcoming, and perhaps bring the trip information like any receipt of the campground or anything you have showing you're just going on a vacation.

I emailed Peel Regional Health Department and they were able to mail me a print out of their records. CanadaHow did you move your money after POE?
Good to know, S/B. Do you know the name of the service? Was it through telephone banking or a specific department? Did you do it though a US account at TDCanadatrust?

I'm intrigued!

CanadaHow did you move your money after POE?

Thanks so much for all the replies!

So when you say there is a limit, is it sort of a per day/per week/per month limit? Or is it just per transfer (e.g. Could I transfer $900.00 (or whatever the limit may be) and then let that finish and then start another transfer for the same amount?)

That's a good question. I have no idea. I'm going to guess it's per transaction. You could always ask them when you set up an account.
SapphireDreamsFemaleCanada2011-07-19 12:08:00
CanadaHow did you move your money after POE?
I found customhouse.com to be the easiest and best option. TDCanadaTrust does not offer the option of transferring directly to a TDBank account in the US yet.

Once you move to the US, I would open a US checking account and then look into setting up a customhouse account where you can use EFT to transfer money into the US. I needed my SSN to get a US account here, so I had to wait about a month or so. They require scanned/faxed copies of your IDs to confirm your identity and require things to be set up over the phone. It's really easy to do, just takes some time to get it all going.

You'll then be able to transfer funds at decent exchange rates within about 4-5 business days for free.

I prefer not to write cheques to myself because it can sometimes take up to 20 business days to get them cleared and its just too long of a wait!

When I first moved I just charged things to my Canadian credit card until I got the customhouse stuff worked out. Or, I'd withdraw like $500/time and just deposit the cash in my US checking account.

The exchange is in your favor right now, so it wouldn't hurt to transfer it all to the US but there is a limit on customhouse transfers (mine is around $2000, but it used ot be a lot lowers, around $900).

We have been checking out http://www.betterbidding.com/. We are not sure which one we will use between Hotwire and priceline, but the website has some interesting information. Having never used either one, I was wanting to find out if there were any major differences between the two. Other than William Shattner, I mean . . . Any ideas?

I think both sites are fine to use. We prefer to use Hotwire, but there's not real reason why.

We booked through Hotwire for our hotel and ended up with the Hyatt about a 5 minute (if that) walk from the Consulate. It was only $78, but that was also in March 2009.

Can really go wrong with Montreal since the city isn't all that big. Any hotel you get on Hotwire will be a reasonable distance to the consulate.

I would like to hear from anyone over the last few months that stayed at La Tour....I booked it because we are on a VERY tight budget..and really..the closer to the Embassy the better.....(interview Feb 05)

I read just as many reveiws that said they had no issues as those that did....and frankly..I think I might be getting an ulcer from the stress of everything......
