It was 12/28/09. Thanks!

Hey, Can you tell me how soon were you able to check your status online after receiving NOA?
I get this error message saying that "Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status....".

Thank you again!!

Thank you for replying....I feel better now.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

In the second paragraph it states that you will be receiving ASC appointment notice which is the biometric letter right?

Biometric letter is not the NOA1 ( 1 yr extension ).

Yes I guess there are 2 NOA's NOA1 which is a 1 year extension and then a Biometric letter for fingerprinting.
The NOA! is supposed to arrive first but in my case its over 3 weeks but no NOA! as yet. Instead I got the Biometric letter 10 days after they received my application.

I called USCIS yesterday asking if an NOA1 has been sent out and if not will they send one out...the man who answered was pretty rude....he kept questioning me instead of simply telling me what I need to do..then finally he told me to wait for 30 days after mailing the application before calling them up asking why I didnt get any NOA.
He said i really didnt have any question??? unsure.gif

I asked him if I the NOA1 was important for the Biometric and if I needed to take it with me....all he said was 'FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION ON YOUR LETTER!'

So for those of you who are waiting for an NOA1, please wait for 30 days and then call USCIS or they will talk to you as if your crazy....
I know waiting for 30 days is difficult..Im very impatient too..but just wait for 1 month...then call.
I felt like a fool after that call... crying.gif

Hi, Susan73
My NOA is "I-797C", Notice of Action
And it said
"Your Conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year"

So, your NOA is Biometrics letter, I think.
I don't remember who, but I saw some people same as you here before.
To the best of memory, they used Infopass and get stamp for extension on passport or something.

I hope you'll get right information here from someone...!
I'll put your name on "November Filers" thread. I'll see you there...!

Thank you Yurika & Jim for replying...
My Letter says Notice of Action 797
But it is an ASC appointment letter for my biometrics.
So I guess I will get another NOA which will extend it by 1 year.
Since my GC expires only jan 31st i will wait and getinfo pass 1 month before it expires...if I go now they wont stamp it I guess.
I hope someone who knows will reply to this. helpsmilie.gif
Thank you for adding me to Nov filers.... smile.gif

Your 797C is your NOA1 - this is the 1 yr extension letter you can use for travel while waiting for your 10 yr GC. ASC is the biometric letter which you might receive at most in 30 days. I already received my NOA1 but unfortunately there is a typo error in my name. I called USCIS and made correction about it hopefully will receive another NOA1 in 30 days or just have a stamp on my passport during my biometric .

Riza

Riza,
if this Biometric letter is also my extension, why does it not mention anything about extention...all it says is appear for FP!!!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNOA, I797 and Bometrics letter
Ok I may sound ignornant but I am confused.
I filed my 751, they received it Nov 2nd, check cashed and on Nov 18th I got a letter from USCIS.
It says I797 Notice of Action. It has my application number
below that it says in bold - ASC Appointment Notice
and in the body of the letter it says I need to get fingerprinting done on Dec 10th etc etc and when and where to go for it....

Now what is this letter..A NOA or Biometrics or what???
Do I still have to get anyother letter?

When do i get a letter saying my GC has been extended for another year. My GC expires jan 31st 2010.

Someone please tell me coz im all stressed out now....and dont want to mess anything up due to my lack of knowledge....

It varies.
In my case I got my Biometric letter in 2 weeks from the day they got my papers and my Receipt notice NOA! over 45 days later and after 4 phone calls.

I'm glad you finally got your NOA! Hope you receive your 10 year card soon.

For information in case others are wondering, if you do make an Infopass appointment because you haven't received your NOA extension letter and your green card is about to expire, yes, they do stamp your passport with the I-551 stamp at the time of the appointment. Mine was stamped for a year's extension. The only problem was that I then had to carry my passport with me until I received the 10 year green card. I also travelled outside of the country and back with the passport stamp - no problems. smile.gif

Yes Im relieved as well Kathryn. Thank you for all the tips and input..sure helped in taking the stress off my mind.
I wonder how long it take to clear Biometrics...its been a week...Does anyone know when I will know if Im clear or not..silly question but nonetheless I want to know...

What do you mean to clear biometrics?

By Clear i mean - That I have passed the FP stage..all my prints are clear, they dont have to do another biometrics coz I hear some folks go in as many as 3 times to get their prints captured....
and that Im clean Not on FBI's top ten wanted list etc etc...

As long as you don't hear from them requesting a new biometrics, then you should be ok. I am not sure that there is a time frame on these things since they are not part of the normal process.
To my knowledge, there is the FBI process and the USCIS application process that goes on - not sure if they start running at the same time and in parallel or they are addressed when each department gets to them. All I know is that IF the USCIS is done looking into your application and the FBI is not, then they will wait until FBI clearance. However, if they do ask for another bio, then that is normally an indication that you are getting close to hearing their answer.

To answer your original concern, although some people end up going for more than one biometrics, it is not very common. usually, one biometrics is enough unless something weird happens. So you should be OK.

Thank you for the answer..I like the way you very clearly stated facts and didnt repeat yourself....My colleagues wife had her Biometrics done 3 times and another guy I know 4 times...so that made me wonder....

I never received an NOA either. You don't need it for your biometrics appointment but you do need something if your green card is due to expire soon. The best thing to do is to make an InfoPass appointment at your local USCIS office ( http://www.uscis.gov = choose 'make an infopass appointment' from the lower left hand side of the page). Bring along your green card and your passport with you to the appointment - they will use your A number to access your file and will put an I-551 stamp in your passport that usually will be good for 6 months to a year - plenty of time in which to receive your new 10 year green card. The I-551 stamp is just like a green card and is recognizable for travel and work eligibility.

Thank you all for taking time off to actually read my post and give me very accurate and clear replies...that makes me feel better now about not getting my NOA1 yet.
My FPrinting is on Dec 10th...will go for it.
My GC expires Jan 30th so I have 2 months and will wait I guess till the end of Dec before I make the InfoPass Appointment...
What do you folks suggest???
I get it now, wait for another month or wait till 1 week before my GC expires.....

You're welcome. smile.gif

I filed in February and my green card was due to expire in May. I made an InfoPass for 3 weeks prior to when my green card was about to expire. I wouldn't try to get an extension until you are closer to the expiry of your green card because it is still valid for now and you may yet receive either the NOA or even the 10 year green card itself before the 2 year one expires. Once you get closer to the time -or if you know you will be travelling out of the country when the green card expires - I would make the InfoPass appointment for then. You do need to prove you need the I-551 stamp to USCIS and you really don't until January 30th.

Hi Kathryn41, I have a feeling I will not recieve an NOA, it been almost 14 days since I send my package, the check was cashed but I have not revieved an NOA, If I get a Bio letter that will kinda help coz am getting nervous, how long did they take to send you a Bio appointment letter coz I noticed you did not receive an NOA either, thanks

Thanks Kathryn, Thats is exactly what I going to do.....wait till mid jan for my NOA and if it doesnt come by then then I will get the info pass thingy done....Who knows...like you said I may even get my GC by then.
Do they stamp your passport the same day as the appointment or do they may you wait?
Nancy Dont panic..Its been over a month since I filed and still no NOA...they will send you a Bio letter in 3 weeks..just hang in there.....

1. Yes - you need the biometrics appointment, driver's license and green card. No NOA1 will be needed for this.
2. I beleive you can get the stamp when you go to your biometrics (someone correct me if I am wrong).
3. Yes - I just did my biometrics without NOA1.

Infopass is a good choice. They should be able to give you better info.

ok so now its been 30 days since I sent my I751 and my check was cashed.....
Got my Biometrics letter which is in 10 days but no NOA1 as yet.

I was told to call after 30 days of submitting my papers.

So I called USCIS, spoke to 2 people.....
All they said was wait!.
One lady said I need the NOA1 for my ASC appt and she would try to do somethign and transferred me to another man.
He said "it will come"
I asked" will it come in 10 days before my FP'
He says " i dont know..wait and see"
I ask "what if it doesnt come..what do i do?"
he says "Wait and call us 1 day before the FP - Good Luck"

Is this some joke!!!! Its my life and future here and no one can give me a straight answer.

Can some of you kind people please help me out

alot of $$$$$$$$.
Anyway thanks everybody and good luck to those who are still on the waiting process.

mailed the week of aug 16 /2009, application received and signed on AUG 20/ 2009
BIOMETRICS done on SEPT 29/ 2009
Letter of approval received on DEC 17/ 2009
date of decision DEC 10/ 2009

NOW onto citizenship!!

thanks again and feel free to ask any questions on what we send with our application, basically cover enough evidence and theres nothing more they can ask....

Congratualtions!!! wow.gif
Im glad you are done with teh stress of waiting and not knowing.....Enjoy the Holidays now...Go have a couple of drinks kicking.gif
I sent all my stuff, did Biometrics and am waiting...papers received by USCIS on Nov 2nd..Biometrics done Dec 11th.
My question is I had submitted evidence of a joint bank account that my husband and I have had for over 5 years.
We were discussing today that we want to close that account and open it at another bank....since we are very unhappy with the present banks services and riduculous fees charged every month.
Can we do that...what if I get an RFE after I close the account???
Is it smart to close it now and open a new one..or just wait and pay the greedy @%^=#@#% bank more fees???

[i]"Record snowfall totals of 30 inches or more will be possible across upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, Morris said. Very strong winds will combine with the heavy snow to produce dangerous white-out conditions and widespread power outages from Wed to Friday"[i]

could their be anytihng that she is hiding? that is what i am tryin gto ask. she will just take me sign and reurturn. i dont have time to go thru papers

Put your foot down...look her in the face and tell her you are not signing anything till you read it all..that goes for tax papes or any other kind of papers..
Its not just a trust issue but its good for you to know what is happening around you....
What do you mean you dont have time???...make the time if its that important to you..it wont take more than 30 mins....
maybe there is something she is hiding..maybe there isnt anything...and she realises you dont care enough to make time to read it so she doesnt want to waste her time either.
Till you ask you dont get anything....
And dont accuse her till you take the time and effort to find out whats happening.....

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNo Joint Bank Account--Is that OK?

Hello, everyone! This forum has always been very helpful for me so I hope you guys can help me out.

My wife and I are going to be mailing our packet to remove the conditions on her residence very soon and I was wondering about proof. We have a joint tax return photocopy, joint life insurance and joint health insurance...but we don't yet have a joint bank account. Should those three items I DO have be enough evidence? I certainly think it should be but I wanted your opinions. Thanks!

Just to be on the safe side, why dont you open a joint account now and put some money into it, even a small amt and pay some common bills this month. So if you do get an RFE youc an always send them the joint account details....also ask your bank to give you a letter saying the account is a joint one..my bank did that for me...
and once you are done with all this paper work, you can close the account.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionPLEASE HELP I AM VERY CONFUSED AND SCARED ABOUT 751

Yes, the n400 will result in adjudication of the I-751. Will you consider contacting your congressman as I pointed out eariler?

I think I will wait for 6 months before I do an info pass or contact him....dont you think so?
Its too early to act desperate....after the stipulated 6 months atleast I have a valid excuse...

You are eligible to file for Naturalization 2 years and 9 months from the day you were granted perm resident status ( in case of marriage based petitions which is all us here ) , and yes you can file for N400 even when 751 is pending , it has been observed that filing for n400 with 751 forces an adjudication of 751 , because at the time of filing n400 and the interview process you are still required to show documents and proof that you are married to the same US citizen through whom you got yiur initial GC

Hope this helps

Thank you...

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionPLEASE HELP I AM VERY CONFUSED AND SCARED ABOUT 751
V333k - Are you saying that after 3 years of being a permanent resident I can go ahead and apply for naturalization even if my ROC is still pending.......
So as soon as 3 years are up I can leave my I751 still in 'initial review' and go ahead with naturalization.....
How does that work??? How can they process that when they are not even sure if they want me here!!!!! Please advise...

Here is the thing. If you are still married and your marriage is in good-faith, then there is no reason for you to worry. Although that infopass lady said you have an interview lined up, but they rarely make a good guess. Sometimes, when you send in additional evidence, then most of the time they send you an approval decision. Many people have been approved even though their marriage fell apart so I think you are in a good standing position. If you do go to an interview, a lot of times they are selected randomly to satisfy some statistics.

To answer your other questions, if you have a valid passport, then you don't need a travel document since they will approve it for the length of your greencard (which is a year extended from your 2 year expiration which based on your input is sometime in July of this year) Are you planning on traveling for more than 6 months? this is when you need it.

As for the naturalization, if you meet the 3 year residency requirement (minus 90 days) then you can go ahead and apply.

One suggestion, which I really recommend is to contact your congressman and ask him/her to get involved. One VJer posted his steps here about contacting his congressman twice and both times he came through and got his application approved.
I need to look for it but this happened in the last two or three days....
