Middle East and North AfricaJFK POE

Hello Everyone,

My hubby is finally coming home tomorrow  and the POE will be JFK and I was Wondering for those of you who used JFK as POE if the experience was bad or good, if they were treated harshly or not, if its a long process or a short one, or does it just depend? Does coming from an islamic country make it worst?
Thank You So Much Ahead Of Time :)
*Amirah*

My husbands experience was very good. Total wait time was about 40 minutes after arrival. He will not be mistreated. Congrats on the visa!

Middle East and North AfricaMoroccan Culture?

Sister Itsallgood - I just had a very vulgar thought about all of this, but here it is: Ever thought that maybe money is being sent home as a savings account for him so that if and when he leaves you he has a nice nest egg to go home to?

Exactly my thought!

Middle East and North AfricaHe never says sorry...
Part of the depression may come from not being able to financially support you right now however he must make a move to get a job. He also might feel shy to interact with other people right now. Are there any English classes at a local library or maybe volunteer so he could atleast interact with others now which could help him feel more secure?

OUR BANK WAS ROBBED TODAY!

We headed to the bank today to talk to somebody and as we're pulling in we saw all these police cars around the bank and in the parking lots around the bank and different areas sectioned off and a line of police standing outside. I said to dh that it looked like the bank was robbed. He said, "That's it. I've had enough with Wells Fargo." I asked him to ask the police since they were on his side of the car so he rolled down his window and asked them, "Excuse me can we go to the bank?" They looked at us like Posted Image and said no. Then I asked, "What happened?" The police officer came up to our doors and said the bank was robbed but you can go to the downtown bank. I asked which way was downtown and thanked them. If we had been there just a few minutes earlier like I wanted to be we would have been inside the bank when it was robbed and experienced that. Thanks to dh though we left 30 minutes after we were supposed to leave and missed the robbery. He had changed the time so he could do something before we left.

First his card info gets stolen. Then my card info gets stolen and today our bank was robbed. Dh said he thought this kind of thing only happened in the movies. Posted Image

Bank Robbery

OMG  That should be a sign to close your account with them lol

I know that WF merged with Wachovia which I used in the past until I noticed money missing from my account!

I suggest you get your free credit report(if not already) at www.annualcreditreport.com and also file fraud alert with one of the credit reporting companies :

You have the right to ask that nationwide consumer credit reporting companies place "fraud alerts" in your file to let potential creditors and others know that you may be a victim of identity theft. A fraud alert can make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you. It also may delay your ability to obtain credit. You may place a fraud alert in your file by calling just one of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies. As soon as that agency processes your fraud alert, it will notify the other two, which then also must place fraud alerts in your file.

* Equifax: 1-877-576-5734; www.alerts.equifax.com
* Experian: 1-888-397-3742; www.experian.com/fraud
* TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289; www.transunion.com

An initial fraud alert stays in your file for at least 90 days. An extended alert stays in your file for seven years. To place either of these alerts, a consumer credit reporting company will require you to provide appropriate proof of your identity, which may include your Social Security number. If you ask for an extended alert, you will have to provide an identity theft report. An identity theft report includes a copy of a report you have filed with a federal, state, or local law enforcement agency.

I hope all works out for you.

Happy Hump Day MENA! My dh wasn't the only one that was targeted for the debit card fraud. I found a new unauthorized charge on our account and had to file a new claim. Apparently they also stole my debit card information and were spending in NYC. They had to close my card and issue a new one just like with my husband. We'll be going and talking with our bank about options.

Sorry to hear about that. It could be internal fraud. What bank do you use? I would consider changing the bank.

Isn't it a great dance! Posted Image

Unfortunately I have some bad news that killed my Friday dance. Posted Image

We went to the grocery store and tried to buy a measly $10 worth of groceries and we were declined twice. When we got home we called the bank and then we were told that someone in Mesa, AZ was using my Husband's debit card spending up to $800 on it in a day so they froze the account. We had to go through a series of security questions and file an inquiry claim. They cancelled his card and reissued a new one but now we have to dispute all the charges from this person who stole his card information. It really sucks because this is our joint bank account that was affected. The one we pay bills with and now we don't have our money because his debit card information was stolen and that money was spent and pending under investigation. Posted Image

This has never happened to me before on my account and I just don't understand how someone could get his debt card information or how he could be targeted by a thief after he jut arrived in this country.

I'm hoping that this is an isolated incident and someone only stole his debit card information and not his identity. He barely just got his GC and we barely just applied for his SS #.

A lot of this has been happening in NY, it's called ATM skimmers NY Times ATM Skimmers They can duplicate your card.

Also a lot of debit fraud comes from purchases at restaurants, grocery stores and gas stations.

If possible, it's best to use a credit card. You're fully covered.

morroco airlines, from casablanca to new-york , i dont save money, the ticket price is my pay for 15 working days, im not rich im just ok, i got what i want when i want. btw i guess they give you a green slip when they dont keep your passport in them office.

If you come to America with that attitude of "getting what you want, when you want" I'd advise you to rethink this...you might have to learn the hard way.

BTW the green slip IS for picking up the visa WHEN they hold your passport.

I have found out talking with fellows that almost every arab guy who has interest to marry foreign woman had a fiancée or close girlfriend who died under tragical circumstances usually before the wedding. It seems that this is a "nationwide game". I wonder who many of your men came out with such story.

I would not doubt that. I bet they came back to life after the guy gets his citizenship :innocent:

Middle East and North AfricaOffensive or not?

My Muslim friends tell me they're not allowed to say "Salam" to a non-Muslim. Is this a widespread belief?

Salam is an arabic word and arabic existed long before Islam. All arabs use the word salam, its not tied to any religion.

Understood, but is that a widespread belief among Muslims? My interactions are mostly with subcontinental Muslims and I have heard that among them over the years quite a bit.

Maybe it's like, a Jew in England or France or America is going to say "shalom" occasionally but only to other Jews (very rarely, in religious settings, I guess). An Israeli, Jewish or not, is going to say shalom to everyone, because it's Hebrew. But when the language becomes part of the religious culture it morphs into a religious thing?

Middle East and North AfricaThe most useless thread evvvvverrrrrr

Hello everyone, I am not sure if I am doing this right since I am very new to this forum, But if anyone can please give input I would greatly appreciate it..............I just returned from the most beautiful experience of my life going to Tangier Morocco and finally meeting the man I have cooresponded with and talked to for the last 2 years..........it was awesome, we have decided to marry, in fact while I was there in Morocco we tried to get married we went to the Embassy in Casablanca and collected all the necassary documents but the marriage process was estimated to be about 10 days, an additional 10 days I was not able to stay unfortunately. So, 2 days ago I sent in the documents for a k1 fiance visa, but I did a sloppy job after reading the recommended filing directions after stumbling upon this site............Now I am freaked out that the marriage process will be much delayed because of my sloppiness. I did not put the photos in a little plastic bag, although I did label them, I did not include letters from him and I intending to marry after 90 days upon entry to the USA, this was not on the Immigration website. Also some of the geographic documents in his name were printed in Blue ink and not Black, since I was on a jet from Spain to JFK, I was anxiously trying to prepare the paperwork. I just feel like I did a really sloppy job, can anyone give me any input? Please????????????? Thank you so much!

If you did a sloppy job, your service center will request more information. Don't do anything; just wait for the RFE to come in. If there are documents you know you left out, however, gather those asap, but don't send them until they are requested.

PS An RFE usually only slows things down by a week or two depending on how fast you respond. Don't sweat it.

Now back to the uselessness of it all... oy vey...

Middle East and North AfricaQuestion about SO's race
LOL@"fronting"

Rey was surprised to find out that Americans put their race on documents and IDs. I guess they don't do that much in Brazil.
Alex+RFemaleBrazil2007-02-01 11:53:00
Middle East and North AfricaQuestion about SO's race

Yes, white/caucasian is correct.

From Wikipedia:
"In cases where individuals do not self-identify, the United States Census parameters for race gives each national origin a racial value. This groups Middle Eastern Americans and North African American together with European Americans as White Americans."

Sorry I'm not ME/NA but wanted to ask, Jenn, where did you find this?

Rey is ghostly pale (not as pale as me, but almost) but from Brazil. So does that make him white? Latino? He's half Portuguese/half Brazilian so who knows what racial mixture he has on the Brazilian side. What is the racial value for Brazil?

eta: nm you got it from wikipedia... boy i'm slow today...

Middle East and North AfricaThank you to all of my motivation

Goodness, this board feels like it's always dancing around the elephant in the center of the room: whether people's relationships are legitimate or whether people are deluding themselves or being deluded by a significant other; and whether the appropriate response is cheerleading or honesty. When the board swings one way, the people that believe strongly the other way disagree, and almost no one is tactful, and everyone has memories as long as an elephant.

Kind of hard to blame it on any one individual when people keep leaving and the arguments keep continuing.

Oh, is THAT what causes all the arguing in MENA? Makes some sense...
