Let me tell you about the situation I know. Of course my husband knows a few egyptians in our area. One in particular I wish I had a hide out for! His wife won't let him go anywhere by himself. I'm shocked he can even go to the bathroom alone! This is also the same woman that will go out for 5-8 hours at any hour of the day or night and when she's asked where she was her reply is "none of your business!" She claims never to have money, however she does have a well paying job. She steals money from her husband and won't even get him the daily necessities a person needs. My husband as well as others have gave this poor man money so he can just get what he needs. He wants out and wants out bad, but he doesn't want people to yell "greencard" like his wife already claims he's doing. I could go on and on about the stories! What's the poor guy to do? I've debated on having him stay with us, but I don't want the whack job knowing where he's at. Suggestion?

Oh my God! This is hysterical! Listen, I know of many, many, many women who live under these very same circumstances. It's their EGYPTIAN husbands who do this to them. In fact, it's pretty much standard procedure here, in Egypt.

They either aren't allowed to leave the house or, if they are allowed, they have to be accompanied by someone who their husband approves of.

Their husbands come and go as they please and there is NEVER any asking where he's been.

If she's ALLOWED to work, she will 1.) hand her money over to him, 2.) he will take her pay, or 3.) she HAS to help support the household.

My own EGYPTIAN husband tried to keep me in the house, telling me I wasn't allowed to leave the flat and, under no circumstances was I allowed to talk to "anybody" (I still remember his face when he said the word "anybody"). That edict stood until I realized he wasn't joking and he meant it. I took my freedom back instead of joining the "locked up" club.

No, I bet there's much more to this story. You asked for advice and here's mine: Let them lie in their own mess.

This is how I prevent my wife from leaving the house........
I tie her up with velvety ropes and put one of the gag-balls in her mouth......
But she can leave after sex smile.gif

Now while I do agree there are many men that do use women for greencards, we don't hear many stories about all the "bad apple" women that treat their MENA spouses like #######. I've known a few here and just want to make a voice about it.

Nutty,

I'm very sorry to hear that. But sometimes people say very stupid things out of anger. As Charles said, why did he come here to even try if he was that unhappy. He's being immature and ignorant but I wonder if its just his stress of adjusting causing him to say these things.

I wish you the best rose.gif

Agree with this one. Although it does not make it right what he said to you, he can be saying that out of anger. Did you ask what made him only 50% happy back then? And why he never told you about it? I'd be hurt & curious both at the same time.

When I was fighting with my wife, I was really angry, and I told her that I was the King of England.......but I really didn't mean it.

QUOTE (Lost pilgrim @ Jan 21 2009, 12:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We are both not happy now. We argue a lot.
So we had a nice, calm discussion a few weeks ago when walking through the Forest. We were talking about the option of seperating. He totally unhappy with me now. And I am totally unhappy with him. I said, "in Iran I was 95% happy with you and our relationship. Sure, I had problems there. But it was adjusting the the rules and the family pressence/lack of privacy." He said, "well, I was only 50% happy with you then."

I was shocked. What would be considered our "golden time" the first months of really living together he was never really happy with me. Only partially happy. I later asked his if this was really true and he said yes.

It has really broken my heart by this. To think that he has never truely been happy with me. Only a little happy.

How would you feel if your husband said this to you?

Hi lost, I cannot offer a lot of advice to you. But I can share my experience.

I have been through many relationships in my life. But never a marriage. I am now married for the first time, and I must say, it takes a lot of adjusting. But I had already know through my friends and such, that the first days, weeks, months, even years, can be rough. I knew that, and with that I warned my wife that we were probably going to fight a lot. And she promised me that we will get thru it. And you know what? we did. We fought a lot. But we had a commitment to eachother that we shall overcome. And we did.

There were times when I said things that I didn't mean, and she did the same. In my heart, she knows that I love her deeply. And I know she loves me too.

In closing, here is the only advice I can offer you. HANG IN THERE. See if he wants to make a commitment to get thru this with you. Warn him that you may argue a lot. But promise him that you will get thru it.

Goodluck.

I understand cause he is Muslim, has Halal meals being served so the airlines already know he's muslim but do you think it will matter weither or not he has a beard?

If I'm correct, in the muslim faith, the men shave their beards clean when they are getting ready to meet Allah. Perhaps his parents are think that flying is dangerous? and something might happen to him? Ergo he should be ready to meet Allah?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhich tax software to use for first time ITIN filing?

Hello vj family, I have a question. This is my first time filing as married filing jointly, I am still at the NVC phase and my husband is overseas, I know I have to file w7 with all document with my tax return, my question is how do I paper file when the tax software that I am using will not let me continue without spouse ssn or ITIN? Thank you. Good luck to everyone.

You have to paperfile in the end anyway. So try this...use any made up SSN and see if it'll let you proceed. Then in your print preview, correct (remove) the SSN before printing out the tax return? And if you're using a basic version of Turbotax, I don't think it does a W7, so try a higher version, or try Lacerte.

turbotax is owned by Intuit, which also owns Lacerte tax software, that's professional level. I don't know if you can get it, but try Lacerte. That definitely has W7 in its program.

Yeah, that's what doesn't make sense to me. I would think once she becomes an LPR and if she continues to work there before moving here to live with me that income could be subject to tax.

And even then, she can claim the foreign earned income exclusion...

"Yes. OPs wife will be a resident alien in 2013.

So her tax liability to the US starts now? Before she is a LPR?

Doesn't she become a "resident alien" when she gets her CR-1 and green card? Is "resident alien" the same as "legal permanent resident?"

Yes, and once she gets a greencard she will be an LPR. And that's when her tax liabilities begin as far as I can see. Anything earned abroad before that, there's no US tax liability.

Now I think if she stays in Japan and keeps working there (after receiving her LPR), and she is a bonafide resident of Japan. She can elect to pay taxes to Japan, she can claim foreign exclusion provided that Japan has an income tax treaty with the USA. I know Canada has such an income tax treaty.

And a Resident Alien can also include anyone legally working here, such as an asylum seeker with an EAD but no green card. a LPR is someone with a green card.

KDH I read that link, it says "if you are a Citizen or Resident Alien.." The OP's fiance is not yet a resident alien, I think therefore the portion of her income earned as a foreign national not living in the US is not taxable by the US.

If I'm in the same boat, I would not report that as income. How would the IRS know anyway? There's no W2 or 10-99 that Japan sent to the IRS...

<cringe> tax question...

It just doesn't make sense to me. How can the IRS collect tax on income earned by someone not a LPR, or Citizen, and not living in the US? If she started working here during the tax year, then that portion of her income would generate tax liability.

You really should look harder into this...

It's easy to do a simple investigation to find one's previous marriages. Various computer data bases will review all the names associated with yours. And a simple check with the dept of vital statistics of the locale that you listed as having previously resided will take the investigator there.

In lament terms, it's really easy to find out if one have previously been married. It's something that even I can do at the luxury of my own home. So if I can do it, the USCIS can certainly do it.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresA word of advice make sure spouse attends interview

There is no requirement according to US Law that requires a petitioner to attend an interview. If a consulate demands the petitioner to attend then you should immediately consult with a lawyer. All consulates and embassies answer to and must obey US law. They cannot make up their own requirements to suit their perceived needs. Now, that is not to say that some are not doing it. The following is a quote from the FAQ of a US Embassy website.

In one simple example of the department of state not following the law. There's a mandate that if a nation does not accept back their deportees, the embassy is to stop issuing all visas to that nation.

Well....china, Vietnam, Cuba, Bangladesh, India......just to name a few....

And I mean ALL visas.....

Don't forget some people get 10-99's vs W-2s. either way, you guys are correct, 2007 tax year should be anyone's most recent return. But W-2s and 10-99s will be generated by the end of this month. and if someone files right away, you should have the 2008 tax year returns in a jiffy.

We very carefully prepared all items for CR1 visa application.

Planned FedEx for pickup.

Driver refused to come upstairs (high rise apartment) to pickup package.
Called me on phone to say that and then hung up on me.

I frantically grab package containing I-130 and all else for the CR1 application and head downstairs.

Driver then has attitude because I do not have an Airbill filled out.

Driver gets more attitudinal when I do not have FedEx labeled package.
She gets package from truck then says "ok its good".

I ask her to please attach the Airbill before she leaves with my package.

She says I can have the package back if I want it.
I request her to return my package.
She refused to give me the package , instead, retreating into her van and closing door.
She opened door a little to tell me to "step away from the van". Then closes door again.
She then affixed a clear window to package and placed Airbill inside.

I waved at her (as I could not get package back) and she drove off.

Today when I tracked package it is mis-delivered to wrong facility.
When I ask customer service guy on phone why. I find out the driver (apparently intentionally) entered a different postal code. (The codes could not have been mistakenly entered by anyone not involved with heavy drug use.)
I am in fear for the integrity of the visa application and have FedEx to re-direct the package back to me.

This whole thing sounds too strange to be true but it all occurred in the presence of my apartment manager.

I can only hope that a different driver, and not a friend of the evil driver returns my package to me in a complete and secure form.

So now I sit waiting to see if I can recover any documents from the application. If the driver opened it then I now have to deal with filing a criminal case against her also.

I cannot believe that I have ever been so angry in my life.

Thanks for letting me vent.
John

UPS is the best for international packages.

I decided to use an immigration lawyer for my K1 Fiance visa. Everything has been going great so far and I received an approval letter from the Visa Center and waiting on a packet from the embassy.

But when I asked if I can get a copy of the packet so I can have the information available to me they told me they can't give out those documents (they aren't allowed). This doesn't make any sense to me, they filled out the paper work but it is my paperwork and information. (signed a power of attorney form to allow them to create the packet)

Anyone know why they wouldn't want me to get a copy of my packet? I already paid so they aren't getting any more money if they keep me in the dark.

It is Really strange.

Edward they have to give you a copy of your file, or the file all together. It's yours, not the attoneys.

Usually a call from another attorney will get this file in your possession quickly.

I have read different stories throughout the internet about marrying in the US. I have always been told that if you plan to marry your parnter in the US, they MUST come over on a fiance visa to do it legally. However, I heard and seen more frequently that if they are here as a tourist and we decide to get married after they're already here, then it's legally and we can do the necessary paperwork to keep them here.

Is this true or false?

If true, what steps do we need to take?

Regards,

Jess

it is all about your intent when you enter the USA..... If your intent is to shortcut the immigration process by entering on a tourist visa in order to immigrate, then this won't work for you, since you are already, it appears, contemplating immigration
