Ha, that is funny, and TRUE! I still do that..... sort of like "I'm sorry that my foot was in your way so that you had to step on it." wacko.gif

The mail on Saturday thing still gets me confused, since the mail is NOT delivered on Sat in Canada, but the banks ARE open. In the US, its the reverse....... mail IS delivered, but banks are CLOSED. More than once I've told my husband that I'll run to the bank on Saturday.... only to be reminded that it will be closed whistling.gif Right...... mail = yes, bank = no...... gotta get that straight!

Our NOA2 was approved at VSC on Sep. 15. On Oct. 2 I was able to schedule interview of Nov. 5. I guess we were lucky. There are some approvals right after us that still are not entered in system to get an interview date. I can't believe how much people get jerked around.

HA! cool. I left L'viv in early May. I knew it looked familiar, according to Ira that fountain had just been built.

And I wanted to see what the health care was like there, I work in a hospital here in the U.S. so I was very interested. Though it was probably better that I didn't see. whistling.gif

Hey thats cool. I wanted to do the same, but I couldn't get out of work soon enough. Iryna was nervous but brave. And besides, she is a lot more organized than me so it was probably better that I wasn't there tongue.gif

anyhow, a bit off topic. Where was the that bottom picture of the fountain with Vika taken? It looks a lot like L'viv.

I'm curious why you want to be there for the interview, just for support or will you just stay with her until the visa is received and fly back together?

They scheduled our interview very quickly as well, I was shocked when we called on thursday and they scheduled for monday.

Iryna will be flying in on Dec. 2nd. I'm excited.

Hope it will all work out quickly for you guys.

US Citizenship General DiscussionIssues with jobs/moving

At the very least, enroll in a school and program that is credited country-wide (meaning, your coursework is transferable). For example, if a business degree, ensure the program is AACSB. A second line of readiness is to enroll in a school that has the possibility of doing the degree online, such that it does not matter where you are, you can still attend same school.

One conversation you would want to have is to discuss what would happen once you finish your degree and a job (or a great job) is offered in another state or where you are now. Is the state/city where you are the ultimate destination or is a job (yours in this case) more important as to prompt moving to where that job is.

Money is not everything (to some) and some people has the place to live as a higher priority, regardless of income. Don't know if this is the case here, but at least a conversation about the reasons need to happen IMHO.

And yes, you are correct that living in separate residences could bring issues later on. You are married and are supposed to be living together. You don't necessarily have the luxury or flexibility of claiming that school/job/reason X is more important; USCIS might not see it that way.

Good luck

The program I'm in will be a Radiography program that had a waiting list and competitive entry, I'm one of 18 to be accepted.

Our plan was actually to move to Toronto after I finish school where theoretically we could both get decent jobs and I have family there. However she is on a kick to be a flight attendant which has nothing to do with her Bachelor's nor Master's degree. Flight attendants as I understand start as a reserve at $20 per hour, but only 70-80 hours per month, and this reserve status can last for years. Also due to erratic hours it is difficult to have a second job. Therefor I showed her cost of living in these cities sometimes upwards of a thousand miles away, and show that even with cheap housing she'd more than likely end up in the red after all bills were done.

Plus I probably won't be able to work full time anymore while in school, managing bills here already isn't fun but having to pay double rent doesn't make sense to me when she could find a job here that would pay the same, if not more. However these jobs are "below" her. We've had many talks about it, but she never seems to agree with me until other people verify these things.

Don't get me wrong I'd love for her to be a flight attendant since she wants to so badly, but now just isn't the time or the situation. I can't get that through to her, everything turns into me 'never' supporting her, I'm always negative, etc. Also I'm not sure if us being separated will result in just some inquisitive letters, or her being deported overnight ( a stretch perhaps, but I don't know how hard they enforce these things).

Thanks for your reply.

US Citizenship General DiscussionIssues with jobs/moving
This may not be the right forum to post in but I have a serious question that is causing some ripples in my marriage.

I've been accepted into a full time school program and unwilling to move, my wife (UA) is gung ho about getting a job outside of the state, to the point where she won't even look locally. I gave her about a year of me being willing to move if she found a job, however she never got one and now I'd like to finish school as I have no degree though she has two. She is still set on moving though and wants to move without me. Not only do I find it financially unreasonable because the jobs she's applying for aren't that great, but I'm predicting it will cause some red flags with the USCIS.

Does anyone have experience in that matter? Are we going to get someone knocking on our separate doors digging for answers?

Of course I've brought this up as a defense in my case but it's just my 'reason' getting in the way of things.

Thanks for any advice,

Trevor.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCompletion Of DS-156
Hello my fellow VJ friends,
I have a question about the DS-156 form.
When completing the DS-156 form it is done online electronically and cannot be printed. When is this document supposed to be signed?? Do you sign it online electronically by typing the name in, or do you leave it blank and submit it where it is then mailed from the Consulate to the beneficiary to be copied, signed and brought with her to the Consulate on the day of her interview? Are there any other documents that have to be done in this manner also?

Thank you very much my friends.......

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS160 Replaces DS-156, DS-157, DS-158
Thanks Marlea,
This is of a truth, yet the US Embassy in Brazil states this:

*********************** Notice ***********************

The application process for U.S. visas changed as of April 5, 2010. Appointments now REQUIRE that you complete the new DS-160, and upload your photo electronically. You may access and fill out the new form found at this link: https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/
The Consulate will ONLY accept the new DS-160 form. Applicants who do not present the DS-160 form will NOT be interviewed and MUST reschedule their appointments for the next available date.
Your DS-160 application must be completed no less than 2 days prior to your appointment date.
For additional information, please:

Frequently asked questions about the form DS-160
Presentation on how to fill in the new online form DS-160
Additional information about the DS-160 at travel.state.gov .
Additional information about visas for the United States at travel.state.gov.

This is somewhat confusing as each Embassy in each country transistions it seems to phase out the other forms.
I would be safe and have the DS-160 and the others also in the event it is required in adition to the DS-160.
Brazil says they "will only accept the DS-160 form". Check with the Embassy in the beneficary's country handling your case. Hope this is not too confusing as we have enough of that.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS160 Replaces DS-156, DS-157, DS-158
My fellow VJ friends,
Please be aware of the change of forms in use now by the US Embassies in Brazil.
Please read from the US Embassy website below, also does anyone know what a form FS-257 (for fiancees only) is and where can it be obtained from...??? Does it come included in the Packet mailed to the beneficiary...???
From the US Embassy website:

New visa application form enters into force in April

Simplification of forms aims to speed the process up

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Online DS-160 for Nonimmigrant Visa Applicants
Brasilia, March, 2010 – As of April 5th, the State Department will be using a new form in Brazil for visa applications. DS-160 is completely electronic and will replace the forms DS-156, 157 and 158. The new form also allows photographs to be uploaded. Even with the implementation of this new form, applicants still need to schedule an interview and pay the fees.

After filling out and sending in the form via the internet, applicants will get a confirmation page with a barcode. On the day of the interview they just have to hand over this page with the barcode.

DS-160 is a multiple choice smart form and has already reduced the waiting time on the day of the interview and the processing time for visas in other countries it has been implemented in. Research carried out in nations where the new form is already being used indicates an increase in client satisfaction compared with the previously used system.

The new form will be available in English only, but the system can translate the questions into Portuguese – users just have to put the cursor over the question. DS-160 can be found online at http://www.visto-eua.com.br/.

Important points:

Fill out and send in the form at least two days before the interview.

Fill the form out carefully. If the form is filled out incorrectly, the applicant risks not being able to conclude the interview. In this case, the form will have to be filled out again, the interview fee will have to be paid again, and the applicant will have to return to the consulate on another day. The following fields may invalidate the form if filled out incorrectly: name (must be the same as in the passport), passport number, country where the passport was issued, date of birth, country of birth, nationality, sex, marital status, last trip to the United States, photograph uploaded.

It will not be necessary to complete it all at once. Applicants can save and continue the process later.

We recommend payment of the visa application fee be made in advance, avoid leaving it to the day of the interview.
Other forms that are still required: Students (I-20); Exchange Programs (DS-2019); work visa requests; diplomats and official representatives; diplomatic notices from Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, from International Bodies (the UN, IDB, etc), or from consulates.

I hope this is helpful and saves anyone some time and money as the fee will have to be paid again if it is not correct the day of the interview and must be rescheduled.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionquestion about i-134

i have a few questions about the i-134,

on questions 8, 10, and 11 it asks: (my questions are in red)

8. The following persons are dependent upon me for support: (Check the box in the appropriate column to indicate whether the person named is wholly or partially dependent upon you for support.)
do i list my fiance because i do send her a 1/4 of my check each week for english tutor, cell phone, transportation, internet, going out, food, etc ?

10. I have submitted a visa petition(s) to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on behalf of the following person(s). If none, state "None".
am i suppose to list my fiance here? or is it asking for prevues fiance petitions?

11. I [] intend [] do not intend, to make specific contributions to the support of the person(s) named in item 3. (If you check "intend," indicate the exact nature and duration of the contributions. For example, if you intend to furnish room and board, state for how long and, if money, state the amount in U.S. dollars and whether it is to be given in a lump sum, weekly or monthly, and for how long.
i dont understand this question, dose it ask if im intending to support my fiance? because i intend for her to live with me and i am going to support her. im sorry im not sure what its asking. if i put i INTEND the i put she will live with me? and for how long?

also i do not have alot of savings will this be a problem? i do have personal property that is worth of about $50,00, cars, motor cycle, guns, etc. is this a plus? do they ask in detail what i have and what is worth or how i have obtained it?

i do have a job where i make about $50,000 a year, the only problem is i started this job on march of 2010, so i only have like 8 months working here. it is a long term job and im not leaving it any time soon. will this be a problem?

also i in the past 3 years before at my present job, i have not worked enough to clam on my tax returns, due to me being in school or just not able to find a job, but i have received several W-2 for jobs i have worked at, only that as i stated i did not make enough to file, how is this going to effect me? by the time i come around to the date i have to go to the embassy in Juarez mexico i would have the 2010 tax return filed on my present job, im not sure how how strict they are on taxes. i am going to get a transcript on the W-2 ive received in the past 3 years altho i dont think it will help. any insights or helpful advice on this?

Since your case will be checked and and repackaged for shipment to the Embassy in a short amount of time, your number will not be in the system. Your EAC# wont be helpful until you call the Department of State and/or check the interview list on the Embassy website.

Yes Both in Letter form!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion?'s Regarding Embassy in Domincan Republic

CONGRATS!!! I've been in your shoes...I know you're excited.

Check the timelines of the other members here in the Dominican Rep (mine is below). Try to see what the average amount of time passes it takes for Embassy in Santo Domingo to receive your case until members receive their Interview date. Your best option is to call the Department of State (Visa Specialist) in Washington D.C. Call 202 663 1225. Press Option 1 then Option 0 to speak to a visa specialist. (Do not waste your money calling the Embassy). I called and them maybe 2-3 weeks after the case had arrived and the Visa Specialist told me when the Instruction Packet (P4) was married to my fiancée and also our interview date.

Within this time period (of waiting). Check the Interview list here for your interview date
http://santodomingo....pointments.html

And also begin getting these list of things done (you will need all of these for your interview)
http://santodomingo....structions.html

All the forms you need for the interview is ONLINE and the same "instructions" you receive from the Embassy are online as well. (check the link above). You can get nearly everything done before your instructions arrive. What your really waiting for is "your interview letter" that allows you to get your medical exam done.
http://www.consultor...om/english.html

Word of advice...sometimes people never receive their interview packet, so be proactive and keep calling and getting things done for your interview (which I'm guessing may be in Feb/March). If you find out your interview date and still have not received your packet, then you call the Embassy and ask if you can pick up a duplicate packet so you can get your medical done in time for the interview (call 2 weeks before the interview date).

One last thing. You Must Go To The Interview!!! They expect both people to be there...if not they can deny you immediately. Or reschedule your interview (if you're lucky).

Thanks for all this !!

I hear you about not trusting the mailing service!
We did not receive the packet either. Actually, had it not been for my obsession of calling the visa specialist daily to inquire about an interview being scheduled, we would not have known that an interview had indeed been scheduled! My fiance had to pick-up the packet in person from the embassy after I had to place a duplicate packet request with the embassy. I hope that other members with Dominican beneficiaries are well aware of these "deficiencies" so that they can prepare and be proactive on their case.

Have you tried to call the embassy to ask if the visa has been issued and sent to DOMEX? It has happened before that the original visa had typographical errors and the reprinting of a new visa delayed the visa delivery. Also, apparently with the DOMEX receipt you can track your delivery online and by phone. Have you tried to contact DOMEX to see if the packet is in their office? I guess the main thing would be to find out whether the embassy has issued the visa yet or not. That way you know who to call and ask abou the visa... Embassy or DOMEX?

Well Maybe thats it. There was a error on the spelling of her middle name. It was corrected the day of out visa. I did contact DOMEX and they didnt receive it yet.

The number i have is the 877-804-5402 ..$7 per call.... They cant help until 4 weeks after visa is issued.

Hello fellow VJ Members.

Our visa was approved on Feb 18th. But we have not received it yet. The Consulate uses a courier called DomEx to deliver visas. I called them and the consulate has not sent them it yet. I PM'd a member here and she told me that they got it in hand 2 days after their interview.

I did call the 1800 number they provide.. but their system doesn't show any updated info.. approval nor denial.

Please Let me know if anyone has had this issue.

You're welcome.

I'm seriously interested in your story as it continues to unfold. We read much about AP as it relates to consulates in countries who have 'less favored' status with the US Government. While I'm not a student of the minutia of Admin Processing, it has always seemed to me that the tortuous process is exacerbated in these countries due to poor technology, poor record keeping, corrupt local law enforcement and the like.

However, it can't always be said that just because a citizen of one of these nations applies at a 'favored nation' consulate that the process will be 'swift'. I am very good friends with a person whose Egyptian fiance spent many months in AP - his interview was conducted at one of the Canadian consulates. This situation occurred in 2005 and the gentleman in question also had a career that put him in a position for more scrutiny. Nonetheless, applying in London or Canada or any other modern nation who has a good political relationship with the US doesn't guarantee a swift visa.

If the process is quicker, however, than say AP through one of the Middle Eastern consulates, I think it does speak to the professional and unprejudiced manner in which a consulate conducts itself overall.

im living proof they dont process it ne faster in a "favored nation" i have a pakistani fiance who is also a student living in uk. we did our interview in london as well. they gave us the 60 day max talk as well.......10 months later we still n ap.....

Yay, had appointment on July 20 and we got our visa!! We were missing a form so had to go back the next day. I was thanked for coming to Guatemala for the appointment, "it makes it easier" the officer said.

Hello everyone!

Anyone else have an update? I haven't heard anything since I emailed and was told that we would be getting an appointment in July. I purposely did not email again but it has been more than three weeks since I asked. Do you think I should email again?

Hey, Anybody have an update to their timelines? I emailed the Guatemalan Embassy and was told that they were planning to give us an appointment date "sometime in July" and that they would be mailing his visa packet to his home address in Guatemala.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHELP!!!

Hello,

My fiance's interview was on a Wednesday and we picked up his passport with visa at the Santo Domingo DomEx office the following Monday. If DomEx still does not have the passport and visa is really because they have not yet received it from the Embassy. You should call the Embassy and inquire on the status of your fiance's visa. I have read about some Dominican beneficiaries having delays in getting the visa due to spelling errors on the printed visa, then to correct the errors and re-print the visa the Embassy takes its time...

Best wishes! (F)

I called the toll free number that is 7.00 per call on Wednesday and told the operator about my situation and gave her my case number and she was saying she didn't see record of where the case was approved and I told her the interviewer said you are approved and can pay at the Domex and she said she would send an email to the appropriate department and if I have not heard anything in a week to call back. I was hoping she just did not know what she was talking about and the visa would arrive to the Domex in the next couple of days. I will call them again on Monday. Thanks so much.
