i think it is best to email and be persistent to your consulate. either that or just call them up and see what is going on. just to be sure, that is smile.gif

good luck!!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat should I do?
Hello... I just found out that my interview is to be on the 28th April too! But I just rescheduled it today to make it on the 28th May. It was a fairly easy task, as all I had to do is email them consulate. However, as I'm a Malaysian and not from Vietnam. I believe it's totally different issue there. Maybe you should call up the embassy and ask them if you're to reschedule, when will the interview be. I find that having 10 days to prepare everything is just insane. Especially, now that you only have a week left. It'll just be too hectic.

Wish you all the best!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMissed Interview Date at Embassy ( need help)
Hello you have to call the US Embassy in the beneficiary's country and explain to them what happened. I'm sure they would understand, as I believe cases like that would happen quite often. I rescheduled my own interview and I had no problems with mine. It was just fairly easy smile.gif

Good luck! smile.gif

Hello all smile.gif

Just wanted to say that my interview's on this Thursday (2 days away - 28th May 2009) for K1 Visa and I'm totally excited!!! I do hope I have all the documents ready... can anyone please help me with my checklist? Below are the documents I have currently smile.gif Thanks!

1. Old and new passports (do I need copies of these??)
Take originals.

2. Passport sized photographs
Good

3. DS-230 Part II, DS-156 and DS-156K (I was asked of these documents in Packet 3 but not in Packet 4, but I will bring them anyways... are they really important?)
Very important.

4. Birth cert (original and copy and translated copies)
Good

5. Police certificate
Good

6. I-134 Form
Good

7. Latest tax return from petitioner (as requested in Packet 4)
Does it include supporting evidence? like w-2/1099's?

8. Petitioner's current employment letter (do I need copies of them too??)
Good - should have 2 of all evidence provided with 134.

9. Medical report
Good

10. Relationship evidence (cards, emails, photos, tickets, passport stamps, etc)
Good - up to date- correct?

11. I also have my fiance's bank account logs, a few pay stubs, etc...
For the 134?

Are all these enough??? What kinda questions would they normally ask? I have read the interview questions section.. are there anything that I should know of? I'm just sooo nervous! I just wanna get everything right! smile.gif
Check the links above for questions asked.

Thanks in advance for your response!

Thank you so much for the response! smile.gif I'm glad that I'm somewhat in the right direction with everything smile.gif I think I'm just going to make copies for a few more documents just to be safe. I shall compile them together for now! heh... smile.gif I have his W2 and Form 1040. I don't think I have the 1099.... what's that anyways?? I have the bank account logs, pay stubs and stuff just in case they need it for I-134 or not... and the relationship evidence is up to date.... he photostated his passport again for the stamps stating that he's been to holidays with me, etc... I hope it's good enough!! smile.gif I'm totally excited!!!!!! hehe biggrin.gif

Thanks again!

heya i'm not sure how long exactly that you have to send the forms in after you get the packet 3. From my experience, I received packet 3 and I hold it off for a long time. I actually emailed the US Consulate here to ask for an extension as the NOA2 has an expiration date. Mine was extended for another 4 months, that's after I emailed them. I think it's best if you email them and have it in black and white, rather than having a dispute later on.

Good luCK! smile.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK1 Visa Approved!!!
Hello everyone smile.gif

Just wanted to convey a happy, happy, happy message that I received an approval at the K1 visa interview!! Yay!!!!!! smile.gif I'm just sooo happy! I'm totally ecstatic! Here was how my day went smile.gif

I arrived at the embassy at about 10 minutes to 9am. I was supposed to submit the documents at 9am and the interview's at 1.30pm. Anyways, after getting the pass (showed them interview letter, etc), I lined up and waited for the guards to let me in. I went in at about 9.10am. I was a total nervous wreck! I took the number but it turned out to be a wrong one, coz I took the non-immigrant visa type and mine was an immigrant visa. So I took another number... waited... my number was B402 smile.gif Waited and finally they called my number. I gave them all the documents, the lady looked thru them, asked me a couple of questions, took the photos as relationship evidence (I didnt have to submit any other receipts or emails or chat logs), signed a few documents and asked me to sit down. I was called again and I had to pay the USD131 fees, I paid with my credit card. After that, I was free to go and will have to come back at 1.30pm for the interview.

I went to KLCC (Petronas Twin Towers), walked around... went for a manicure coz it was like almost 11am and I had 2 hours to kill. So after that, went to Starbucks, had a cuppa and lunch... then it was almost 1pm and I left for the train station to go back to the embassy. I reached the embassy about 1.10pm and I went in.. waited for a while... well, I waited for like 1/2 hour and my number was called again. The officer was a Chinese American... really nice guy. He took my finger prints and asked me swear in telling the truth and nothing but the truth.... then asked me to walk to the other window where the interview is done.

He asked me a couple of questions, below are some that I can remember:

1. What is your fiance's name?
2. What does he do? (At first he said "husband" and I corrected him, saying "fiance")
3. How long has he been working there?
4. Have you ever been to the US?
5. Have you stayed anywhere else (for more than 6 months) outside of Malaysia?
6. When do you intend to get married?
7. How did you meet?
8. How many times did you meet up personally?
9. Where does he live?
10. Do you plan to have a wedding ceremony in the US and Malaysia?
11. Has your fiance stayed in Malaysia or anywhere near Malaysia before?

He asked me a few more small questions... when he asked me about the wedding ceremony, I told him we're just gonna do a small wedding party and we haven't exactly planned yet coz we wanted to make sure we get the visa first. He was like, what are you talking about? Of course you're gonna get the visa! Well, unless it's a fake engagement! tongue.gif Heh... so he was a really really sweet and nice guy! I'm glad to get him as my interviewer!! smile.gif

Wish you all luck for whoever is going through this!

I'm gonna collect my visa on Monday! smile.gif

Thanks for reading!

i pretty much took everything! well, the officer who gathered all my documents made a comment about the employment letter of my fiance (petitioner) not having a date to state when it was written. it didn't pose any issues though... but just a precaution, just put dates on everything! heh smile.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionList of shots needed for K1
Hello Farah smile.gif

I'm applying from Malaysia and I actually just went for the medical checkup the other day.. uhm on Saturday, 25th April actually. It was fairly easy... I had to take only 2 shots. They're for Mumps, Rubella, etc... and the other one's for anti-HPV shot. Also, they'll take a sample of your blood. Then have to go for an chest X-ray screening... that's pretty much about it smile.gif They'll tell you where to go for the medical checkup in Packet 4 and yes, they have 1 in KL, 1 in Penang and 2 in Sabah/Sarawak if i'm not wrong smile.gif

It costs me RM588. Don't worry if you don't have vaccination records, they will just work with you according to your age, which vaccinations you should've gotten when you're young smile.gif

Oh yeah, by the way, the doctor called me today and told me that my medical checkup documents are ready to be picked up smile.gif Yay!

Good luck to you smile.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDHL Tracking from NVC to US Embassy
Hello everyone smile.gif

Just wanted to let people who would like to track their packages from NVC to US Embassy in their respective countries can go to this DHL website at

http://www.dhl.com/p.../sref.high.html

put in the ref. # as EXP 10 NOV 2008A for example... depending on which date NVC sends your package out.... and also to which country... and the date range... sometimes you don't get the exact date from NVC, i.e. mine... they said they sent the package on 7th (Friday) but in actual fact, it was the 10th Nov (Monday) and DHL only picked it up on 12th! So, basically if you don't get anything on the particular date, just play around with different dates smile.gif

Anyways, as per below, those are my detailed tracking and I think it's soooo cool where it has been exactly smile.gif

I have to thank RUTH for signing and receiving my package! Hopefully she's taking good care of it smile.gif

Here's my list: Clothes from Jacob Connexion, Dairyland Milk (I live near the border so it's feasible for me), Good Host Ice Tea Mix, Tim Horton's Hot Chocolate Mix, Advil Extra Strength Liqui-gels for migraines, Aerius Allergy Medication, Quaker White Cheddar Rice Cakes (the ones here are disgusting), steaks (Canadian beef is so much better, in my opinion!), outdoor gear/ clothing from Mountain Equipment Co-op, Nivea Visage Face Soap, Lady Speedstick Tropical Breeze.

On one of my summer visits to NC many years ago, I brought out my two MEC sleeping bags for a weekend "sleep out" at a friend's farm. I've been lugging them around NC ever since! My husband asked why I insist on keeping them, as they are "just sleeping bags"....... no0pb.gif Nope, they are MEC sleeping bags! I've also can't part with my Far West gortex rain jacket. I think the MEC and Far West things remind me of *home*, so I doubt I will ever let them go!

You can drive to either New Brunswick (the Joisey town, not the province) or Philly to access desi stores for the actual Brit ones.

I've also found Aero, Flake, Cadbury, etc at the World Market stores in NC, and they are the British ones too.

And lucky for me, our local Harris Teeter carries HP (original only), and also Lea & Perrins Steak Sauce which is now the ONLY steak sauce that my USC husband will use! So long, A-1!!!

To everyone buying cough syrup with codeine in it...omg there's a reason it's not otc here!! Codeine is addictive and with all the alcoholism and drug abuse I've seen and heard about in Canada (at least where i've visited, don't be offended!) I'm surprised they sell that otc. As a nurse I've seen enough patients get hooked on it and repeatedly want refills when they don't need it. I hope the otc is much weaker than the script version. I took a dose once when I was sick and it made me zonk out uncontrollably. My daughter was talking to me at the time and I just couldn't stay awake, it was an awful feeling.

I just happen to have right here infront of me the last bottle I bought..... way back in March 2006! And it is still over 1/3 full - so no addictions here.... but I understand what you are saying good.gif

FYI, here are the specs:

*Life* brand cough syrup with codeine 250ml bottle,
Nasal decongestant - antitussive - expectorant,
each 5ml (1 teaspoon) contains:
- 3.33 mg codeine phosphate
- 30 mg pseudoephedrine hydrochloride
- 100 mg guaifenesin

I *think* it's a pretty mild formula.... yes??

Just one question though...medications. I've never tried to bring any back with me on previous trips so if our luggage gets searched, will they confiscate stuff like this? I mean, there's meds I can buy OTC in Canada that I can't here w/o a prescription and I'd sure like to bring some back with me.

I think that if it's for "personal use", they don't care one way or the other. The problem I've had is that all my friends here in NC ask me to bring them back muscle relaxants..... and I think a dozen or so boxes of muscle relaxants might make me look a bit like a drug trafficer, haha! headbonk.gif They do sell something here called Excederin Back and Body, but isn't even close to Robaxacet (which is only Rx in the US). Same with the cough syrup with codiene..... you have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter, but you don't need an Rx, and you can get generic at Shoppers or London Drugs. I haven't found anything here in the US that works on a bad cough at night, so my small stash of Canadian stuff has been a god-send.

Another thing I always get are the Shopper's Drug Mart (Life Brand) glycerin soaps - yummy scents and just nicer quality than what I get here.

And I agree with the person who said oatmeal..... in BC they make one called Roger's Porridge Oats, which is a mix of oatmeal and all kinds of other good stuff..... have looked and looked for it here in the south, to no avail. So will definitely be adding a bag of that to the list!! good.gif

It's fun to read all the ideas - thanks!!

CanadaWhat do you just HAVE to bring back on a trip to Canada?
I'm headed back to Canada for the first time in over 2 years, and am making my "must bring back" list. So I'm curious as to what other transplanted Canadians ALWAYS bring back with them. My list thus far:

- a box of Shreddies
- Smarties, Jelly Tots
- bottle of cough syrup with codine, OTC Robaxacet (can't get these without Rx in the US)
- Bisto
- hot cross buns (if I don't eat them first!)

.... I'm sure I'll think of tons of other things. I would love to bring back some REAL apple cider, but we're flying so likely not possible. The stuff they call "cider" down here is actually a "malt beverage".... yuk.

So what do y'all grab before you head back south if you are flying? Driving?? Let's make a big list!! star_smile.gif

CanadaI-94 and Canadian Citizens
Same deal here.... no I-94 from Canada. Our attorney said it probably wouldn't be an issue at the interview, but it *could* be, depending on the interviewing officer. I believe that the attorney applied for a "replacement/initial I-94" for me (not sure what form that is, sorry).

As a back-up, she drew up an affidavit for me to sign stating how/when/where I came into the US (it was notarized). We also had my sister-in-law sign a notarized affidavit, stating the same things (date, place) and that she was the driver of the vehicle, gave the license plate number and description of the vehicle we were in, and that the border officer inspected our passports but did not stamp them.

As it turned out, the interviewing officer didn't ask for either of the affidavits. She just said "You did not get an I-94?" to which I said "That is correct." She then asked "But you WERE inspected by an officer?" to which I said "Yes we were...... he looked at our passports, but did not stamp them, and waved us through." And that was it!!

If you are concerned or anxious about proving your legal entry, you might want to think about getting an affidavit. I'd be happy to send you a template if you like!!

Wow, I wonder how many of these I left hanging back in Canada?? Speaking of such, does anyone have Air Miles? This is going way back, but I have an account in my name; my ex-husband (back in Canada) has been racking up points for years, and I have tried to get them to put the account in his name, but they say that they can't do that. I figure if he is the one bothering to get the points, then he should be able to use them, but Air Miles says that since I'm the account holder, I'm the only one that can cash them in. And I don't think I can even cash them in from the US. Meanwhile, the ex (yes, he is actually a nice guy!) continues to rack up points for me, but until I can figure out what to do about it, then are just going to sit!

Anyone have to deal with Air Miles across the border? Any suggestions?

Canadawhere did you first meet? online vs in person
Online - with a bit of a twist. I'm the Canadian, but have a lot of friends here in NC. I was staying with friends when I decided to check out the local personals.... wasn't looking for anything long-term, as I'd be heading back to Canada in a couple of months, but thought it would be nice to meet some friends for dinner, movies, hanging out on weekends, etc. I specifically posted "LOCAL ONLY" in my profile; then I get a sweet email from ths guy in upstate NY. Even after explaining that that I did not live in NC, was only visiting, he decided to drive all the way from NY to NC to meet me....... had a GREAT time together, but I was headed back to Canada, he back to NY. We kept in touch, and I actually returned to NC shortly thereafter to be baptized. Mr. NY once again drove all the way to NC to be with me at my baptism.... and the very day he was headed back up north, he got a call for a job offer in an NC town 2 hours from where I was staying with my friends! How's that for fate??!!! We saw each other every weekend, and the rest was history! He claims that he knew immediately that I was "the one" for him.... I was sort of in la-la-land, because the idea of getting married and moving to the US was not on my agenda. I was actually looking into overseas missions opportunities.... but God had a different plan for me, and brought this absolute angel into my life .... I could not be happier!!! heart.gif So I would say that our "initial contact" was online, but God arranged the rest so that we could have this wonderful life together luv.gif

Its not like they're poking into people's homes,

Althought this comes close:

http://maps.google.com/maps

and click on "street view" at the top of the map (just above Winnipeg). Doesn't cover every city and street (yet), and it's not a live feed.... but if you think Uncle Sam isn't watching, think again!! blink.gif

CanadaPossible problem??
Same here - we had just never bothered paying for an actual divorce until it became necessary. There were other reasons that benefited both of us to stay legally married when we did, but we had an unwritten agreement that if either of us needed/wanted the divorce, we'd make it simple, quick and painless. For my personal reasons, I did not want my current husband to even propose *officially* before I was divorced. Our personally history shows that my husband and I met in April 06, my ex and I divorced in Nov 06, my husband proposed in Dec 06, and we were married in May 07.

I don't think, in this day and age, that it really matters how/when/under what circumstances one meets the current spouse. As others said, as long as you were both free to marry (ie: divorced) when you sent in the application, the date of the divorce is irrelevant. You don't have anything to worry about!! smile.gif

Lawyers do NOT speed up the process. For simple cases, which the majority are, they are $$$$$ proof readers.

Or in our case, WE were the proof readers for our attorney! I can't believe the number of mistakes that were made, not to mention that we had two RFE's for dumb things (things that our well-paid attorney should have asked us to submit in the first place). Still, at the time, it made me feel better to have an attorney, because I didn't know anyone who was in my situation (same as OP), and I hadn't found VJ yet crying.gif

To the OP: welcome! I have been down your road (Canadian visitor who fell in love and got married while in the US). I now hold the not-so-green green card in my little hand.... so if you have any questions, I or many others would be very happy to help you out.... especially regarding initial entry and intent (I assume you did not get an I-94, nor have your passport stamped?)

CanadaRenting a car in the US and visiting Canada
Never mind.... I just called Canada Border Whatever, and he said exactly what I thought...... a Canadian RESIDENT cannot rent a US plated car in the US and drive to Canada. A Canadian CITIZEN is fine, as long as they are a legal RESIDENT of another country. Whew!!!

Now I can get back to packing..... after a mid-afternoon cocktail..... good.gif

CanadaRenting a car in the US and visiting Canada
OK, so my husband (USC) and I (PR, greencard in hand) are flying to the west coast tomorrow morning, where we will be renting a car at SeaTac, driving up to Blaine for a couple of nights, then on to Vancouver and Whister before heading back to SeaTac.

Just got off the phone with someone at the car rental office who said that a Canadian citizen (that'd be me) is NOT allowed to cross the border into Canada in a rental car with US tags. HUH??? helpsmilie.gif I have never heard of such a thing! I believe that a Canadian RESIDENT cannot rent a car in the US and drive it back to Canada, but I'm not a Canadian resident. I live in the US!!!

Does anyone know the truth behind this? The guy at the car rental place said that it's not their policy, it is the policy of the Canadian Border Patrol.

Help!!! We leave at 8am tomorrow morning!!!!!!!!

Must be nice, the banks where I lived were never open on Saturday! smile.gif

Yup.... maybe not the downtown main branch, but many if not most of the smaller, local branches were open in Vancouver. And they still are..... I need to tie up some loose banking ends on my upcoming trip, and I've already printed out a list of branches that will be open on Saturday (and with with personal banking reps, no less).

* When you step on someone's foot, he apologizes. (This really happened.)

Ha, that is funny, and TRUE! I still do that..... sort of like "I'm sorry that my foot was in your way so that you had to step on it." wacko.gif

The mail on Saturday thing still gets me confused, since the mail is NOT delivered on Sat in Canada, but the banks ARE open. In the US, its the reverse....... mail IS delivered, but banks are CLOSED. More than once I've told my husband that I'll run to the bank on Saturday.... only to be reminded that it will be closed whistling.gif Right...... mail = yes, bank = no...... gotta get that straight!
