WoooooooHooooooo.......My husband got approved this morning!! got that famous "Welcome to the US" letter and also managed to get the C1 ticket. I am beyond excited!! One down and one more to go!! This should make my stepsons case go through smoothly :)  Once he gets home and tells me more about the interview......I will put that in my timeline for review :)

VJ is awesome!! Thank you so much

Well.....my husbands interview is tomorrow in Montreal. I am pretty sure we have everything ready for that....with everything else going on I am feeling pretty numb. I will let you know as soon as I word from him tomorrow. It is exciting....but knowing that is not the end of our journey takes some of the excitement out of it....though one HUGE hurdle will be crossed and done :)

I must be doing something wrong....every time I try to check my status on the CEAC website it always says....

An unexpected error has occurred while processing your previous request. The error has been reported to the site administrator; no further action is required.

and I have tried that several times....different days....and nothing works :(

I hope your stepson can be with you on the move!

So you think a list like books or kitchen utensils or computer games would work? I plan on trying to keep things together like that into one box with the only exception being my large hope chest.

I am praying every minute that stepsons file does catch up smile.png

From everything I have read....the only thing a couple people have said was that they glanced at their list. I haven't seen anyone say they actually looked through the boxes and if I remember correctly only read once where they just looked in the back of a Uhaul. So....I think we will be fine. Sounds like our boxes will be done the same way as yours, lol. Box 1.....Books (25)....Box 2.....DVDs (25)....lol. On the positive side, it will be much easier to unpack and find things without going through a bunch of boxes looking for the darn phone charger, lol.   smile.png

I wish I had someone to yell out box items to! LOL I'm hoping "hardcover and paperback books" suffices. I really don't think I need to write down the title and author of each book, or do I? My husband doesn't have enough leave to come to the interview as well as help me move and settle in. Just 2 weeks. sad.png

I hope they do not want the title and author of books.....we are doing a general itemized list of each box. Wish I could help and be your typer too!! lol I am hoping on taking 3 weeks off for the big move. Will be a long drive to Florida, lol. Wow....2 weeks!! So excited for you and your family :)

Are any of you guys that have date set for the interview plan on being there for your spouse or hoping for your spouse to be there with you during the inteview?  It's an exciting moments I'm sure.  Also during this time what are you guys thinking about as of now?  Perhaps plane tickets, medical costs and where to get them?  Where to stay at, Hotel?  How much it's going to cost.  Is one month really enough time to plan all of that out?  Hoping for some peeps insight here.  Butterflies.....anyone?  It's almost SHOWTIME!!!

I would love to be able to go to the interview with my husband, but thinking we may not be able to afford it. My husbands interview is in Montreal and he lives there....so no need for a hotel.  It is extremely exciting!!

my thoughts as of now.....are scattered around my dining room table on post it notes with stars by all the things that need to be done, lol. The money causes me the biggest stresser....we need to pay all the fees over again for my stepson, the medical for both, my stepson needs all his immunizations which will cost $120 on top of his $150 for the medical review, husband medical is $250, the new USCIS fee for both, and of course the moving truck expenses (Uhaul). *sighs*

Right now via phone he is packing. He is yelling out what he puts into a box and I am typing it into a spreadsheet. I am also working on getting all the papers together for interview. I have reorganized them I don't know how many times. Each time hoping this new way will be easier for hubby to find everything, lol.  I'm weird I know :) Medical is 21st and interview is 30th. I think the 30 days to plan is ok.....cause even if it was 60 days out I would still be stressing, lol.

The butterflies.....yes....they are still with me after 3 years :)

I doubt I got everything but that's just a sneak preview of my thoughts, hope it helps :)

Im the USC and I sent out an I130 for my stepson in Canada. Hoping to get an expedite as my husbands case has an interview date set for May 30th. I was misinformed at an Infopass apt I had back in February......so keeping fingers and toes crossed :)

Oh....sent in the I-130 April 19th and had it sent via next day service. They signed for it on April 20th and I am still waiting on a receipt number

I think you have to be the primary sponsor even if you don't make enough and then the parents are joint sponsors. My situation was similar because I had been in school for the past 3 years so my income was well below the line. I filed the I-864 as the primary sponsor and then my mom was a joint sponsor (filed out a I-864 form)  and the NVC accepted that.  I am not positive about this though. Hopefully someone else will respond who has more knowledge than I or you can always call the NVC and ask them, that's what I did because I had not discovered VJ yet :(

Best of luck!!! :)

option 3?  father and son go in on the 30th, together.

Step son does not have an interview letter.....I don't want to risk them both not being allowed to enter consulate.

I do not think option 2 is an option.  Why would your husband NOT go for his interview?  Who knows how long it would take to schedule a new one if he purposefully misses it.

I was thinking option 2 wasn't a good one either. I do not want to take the chance of their "expedited interview" running into July. At least with option 1 we would have something to fall back on....husband would already have his visa and could move if step sons interview went into July if need be.

Below is a link to the "Contact Us" page from the Consulate's website, I don't know if it will help in your situation but it could be a place to start.

Thank you.....I will try that number and report on here if it is any help

ValPrimeNot TellingCanada2013-05-28 17:02:00

Ah I understand the rush now.  Yeah he could probably come as a visitor.  Remember your husband will need either custody papers showing he has sole custody or a notarized letter stating it is okay for him to travel or move.  It will take about a week (hopefully less) for him to get his visa.  If you can get this expedited at the NVC and the consulate you may get your stuff all done before July 1st.  If not, I can't imagine a short visit is a horrible thing or why customs would ever turn away just a child.  They can be the jerkiest people around when they have to do their jobs, but they're still people.

I would rather see you guys get the medical done before the interview so that you're not waiting on Montreal after the fact. While the rest of Montreal seems to be in a rush, I get the feeling the consulate is filled with laid back southerners.  LOL

My husband has a notarized letter from his ex stating he can move and travel to the US with son.

This is where we currently are....my husband has everything prepared and ready for his interview on the 30th, including his medical.  Stepsons case is at NVC (now have a case number) and is awaiting approval from consulate for expedite (we have been waiting a week for approval and still waiting). I heard back from the congressman's secretary today, she called the consulate somehow. This is what I was told...."the Montreal Consulate this morning stating that they will not be able to marry the files of your husband and his son in time for the hearing scheduled on May 30, 2013". " They did say that since the case has already been put in an expedited status, it wouldn?t take as long to schedule the hearing." So there is no way the case can make it from the NVC to the consulate in time. Plus, we have no medical done yet for stepson.

So my 2 choices as I see them....please tell me if I have any other choices if you see one.

1. My husband goes to his interview alone on Thursday and emerges hopefully with an approved visa. We then plan our move and possibly move while we wait for the NVC and Consulate to finish their stuff (get approved expedite, NVC mails I-130 packet to Consulate, I pay fees when consulate receives, and consulate sets up an expedited interview). Bring stepson into US as a visitor and travel back to Montreal if interview is scheduled after July 1st.

2. My husband does not go to his interview and we wait for this expedite process to go its course and pray for an interview before July 1st.

This is the crossroads where we stand....not knowing which way to go. Knowing that either way we take could possibly end up the wrong way.

The other option is going back to Montreal whenever the interview finally is for his son.  For a small child I'm sure it's really just making sure you have the originals. I know your husband doesn't want to do this because it's more work and expensive to travel, but I really can't believe that he'd just want to split up because he has to travel to Montreal once more to make sure his son and wife can live in the same household.  I cannot see why the boy wouldn't be allowed to live with you guys until such a time or why the interview wouldn't take place before you husband finally had everything packed up and ready to move.  They can't just hop on a plane the same day and fly down anyhow.  Why not take the month and pack up, have the son's interview then leave within the next week?

I am wondering that myself.....can my husband go to his interview this Thursday, get approved, get visa.....and then we move down here to Florida and my stepson come along as a visitor until his paperwork is completed? What would be the possibilities at customs when driving down? He is only 5 and can not be away from his dad. His mother recently moved over 600 miles away so his dad is all he has.  I have no problem traveling back to Montreal for stepsons medical and interview once we get his papers done and complete. And...not like we didn't have enough stress....my husbands lease is up July 1st and the landlord is unwilling to let him stay cause he knows he will be immigrating to US.

I tried calling yesterday but they too were closed because of US holiday. I called them this morning and that number is a scheduling center. So they can only schedule and reschedule appointments. They could not help me with my concerns. I had the girl check for an available new interview date and she told me there is none available at this time and for me to keep calling back to check. *sighs* I also just called the NVC and we now finally have a case number for my stepson. This is so painful. I can not find a phone number to call the Montreal consulate directly.

I am so stressed....I have heard nothing from the NVC last week on expediting the case to Montreal. I have to work a 12 hr shift tomorrow so I will try to call the Consulate on my lunch break. Im praying for and quick reschedule. I know the NVC will be closed tomorrow due to holiday so the chances of getting a reply from them is zero. My husband is at the end of his ropes and is prepared to call it quits. I can't accept that....I cant stop now I love him too much!!

But will the delay from stepson not having medical be shorter than rescheduling interview? I am beside myself right now not knowing what to do

And.....is there a way to see when I could reschedule to without actually rescheduling do you know? cause if there is a date for beginning of June that would work....but going into July wouldn't.

I called the NVC again today.....confirmed that the case is being reviewed for expedite. I asked the gentlemen about the stepsons medical and the piece of paper I should get allowing him to get the medical. His reply "If the expedite is granted then we do nothing more with the case and forward it to the consulate. We will not email you paper for the medical" Apparently according to him the consulate will handle everything from then on. Does anyone have any experience with this and how this will work. I am stressing out and very upset and confused. Not sure what I should do.....Please someone offer some words of advise or experience

ValPrimeNot TellingCanada2013-05-22 11:57:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresImmigrating stepson from Canada

Ok....been sick all day and depressed. So many emotions right now I just don't know what to do or what I am actually doing. Husband is upset too and ready to call things quits.....I am so stressed!!

Here is the current situation: Husband had medical today and we were hoping my stepson could get his too...but apparently not since we don't have an "invitation" letter yet for stepson. The clinic told my husband the last day they could do stepsons medical is the 23rd. At this point my husband is not wanting to go back to the clinic but I know he will have to if we want to get this all finished.  I called the NVC this morning, they said they received our packet last Thursday but it has not been processed yet so therefore no case # yet. I explained the situation and the lady told me to email the inquiry again for the expedite request but to also put in subject line Attn PI supervisor Sue. She also explained to me that all expedite requests go through the consulate for approval and if they approved the request.....NVC would just send the papers to the consulate, without me paying for AOS or IV and without sending those in to NVC. So I resent another email with all the requirements she suggested and this evening I got an email reply from NVC saying my request is currently under review and they would notify me with the results.

My questions:

1. If what the lady said is true....we will pay for AOS and IV at consulate and turn papers in there at time of interview?

2. My husband is only wanting to go to the consulate 1 time....so I am not sure what to do. I am thinking that if stepsons case gets expedite approval and it is sent straight to the consulate and there is no time to get his medical done....wont they take what my husband has and put us in AP until we send in stepsons medical papers? Without my husband having to return to consulate for a 2nd time? or will they turn him away at the doors without talking to him? Or.....do I just reschedule the interview and pray our wait isn't long for the reschedule? (I am dreading rescheduling)  :(

We have to have this done by August cause husband does not want to pull him out of school. I am so sick and upset right now. Feels like everything is caving in around us. Love my husband more than anything and I need him here with me.

I got an email today that my status has changed so I just got home and looked it up....this is what it said....

On May 9, 2013, we shipped this approved or re-affirmed case to the Department of State for visa processing. For more information, please contact them directly.

My question.....I looked back at the notices I got regarding my husbands case and I never got a response like this. My understanding is that the NVC and DOS are 2 separate places.....so does this mean I need to contact the DOS and not the NVC? And is this a good thing?? lol

It is ok to tell me I am just grasping at anything here, lol......Imagine the spare time we will all have when all this paperwork is finally done, lol :)

I talked to the congressmans secretary just now. She said that she will keep following up with the NVC to try and help it go smoothly. God really works in mysterious ways.....and knows ones breaking point.....

Today at work (I am a newly graduated RN and today was my 2nd day on my own) I had the worst day I could imagine. Won't go into details but I was holding back tears the entire 12 hour shift. As soon as I sat in my car to head home....the flood gates opened.

Gods blessing.......I checked my phone through tears to see what wonderful and loving words my husband had left for me......and there was a text message and email from USCIS saying my stepsons I-130 was approved today. Needless to say I cried even harder....delaying my long drive home.

I have a question if anyone knows the answer possibly......case is now being sent to NVC I am guessing.....does the congressmans office that helped me with USCIS have the ability to help with expediting through NVC or do I have to wait till they receive and I request an expedite? I have the fees ready to send and both packets ready too....so that should help also.

Thank you in advance.....such a rollercoaster of emotions today, lol

Update.....kind of, lol

I called the secretary for my congressman that is trying to help me out. Last I had heard from her was last week when she emailed me letting me know she faxed all the info I sent her to their liaison at USCIS. She informed me this morning that she had refaxed my info on Monday because the liaison said that is when they would have my paperwork and she was told that we would have an update by the end of next week. At that time......I mentioned that I will still need to go through the NVC process (wild guess on my part) and she told me that is where my paperwork is at now. This kind of shocks me.....maybe she misunderstood me as the receipt number for USCIS starts with MSC. I repeated NVC a couple of times making sure I pronounced it clearly. lol. She also told me that the liaison stated she did not see a problem with getting my stepsons packet caught up with his dads. I am praying this is true and I hope the update I get at the end of next week verifies that. We are now 29 days from interview date!!! *so nervous*ClockWatch2.gif

Update......this morning I received my receipt number. I immediately sent the lady I have been talking with at my congressmans office an email letting her know what it is. She replied back to me saying....."Immigration is willing to marry the files of your husband and stepson, however using the number I sent they were not able to locate your stepsons file. Please resend your stepson and husbands MSC numbers"

Im not sure how they can not locate my stepsons....maybe it takes a day to get in the system? As far as my husbands go....his was a WAC but I resent all the numbers I had......so hopefully hear from her tomorrow.

PS....does anyone have any thoughts on what is exactly meant by "marrying" them?? Im excited but kinda scared to get excited, lol

I need your advice......Last week when I started this post and got worried with the replies I went online and made an Infopass apt for this Thursday. Since I am waiting to get my receipt number and I have enlisted the help from my congressman.....should I cancel this appointment or is it good to "show my face"? I work the next 2 days (12 hour shifts) so if I should cancel then I need to do that today and I am not real sure what I should do. I just don't want to make an hour trip to an appointment that isn't needed.

Ok......this morning I called and talked to a supervisor.....yes the gentlemen was completely wrong, grrrrrr. He instructed me to send in the I-130 for stepson....then when it is received call and request an expedite. I told him I was going to ask for him, lol. He was very nice. I am very aggravated by all this. I could of filed this back in February if I had been given correct information. The packet for my stepson is now at the post office and I paid for next day delivery. I am hoping and praying it can catch up in time for May 30th interview. The supervisor on the phone said it should be able to since it is a child but then again, hope he didn't just say that to satisfy me at the time. Will keep you updated. *sighs*
