PhilippinesInterview experience at the USEM (04-14-2011)
Thought I wanna share this...

My interview was ok yesterday! they wouldn't let me filled up the courier form if i was disapprove right?!:) Well, they require me to submit another CENOMAR and NBI with my wrongly spelled maiden name because they notice that my birth certificate has annotation correcting my middle name (typo error). This is unexpected tho, I haven't read anything like that here in vj. Don't get me wrong , we're grateful to vj!! when I was looking for sample filled-out forms, I found this website so we decided to become a member!

I wouldn't say this would be a warning for those visa applicants with corrections in their birth certificate tho because I went to NBI this morning and inquired this time about my mother who is being petiton by my sister in CA. I asked them if i can get another NBI in advance for my mother who had to change her name in the marriage contract. I was thinking maybe the Embassy would ask her the same thing during her interview. His advice was just to wait for the Embassy to request for it. So we're expecting more delays I guess!

PhilippinesAny Filipina in the Greensboro NC area?
Hi! We are in Moyock, NC... we are right on the border of NC and VA. Only about 30-40 mins from Norfolk/Va Beach area. I have lived in the area most of my life. There are lots of Filipinos in this area due to the US Navy bases! I think Greensboro is about 3 hours from here.

PhilippinesShipping Documents to the Philippines

Do you mean they're not near where you live in the U.S.? If so, they don't have to be. You can mail the package to them or FedEx it to one of their offices. For instance, I FedExed it to their office in New York and they sent it to the Philippines. However, if your fiancee doesn't live near an office in the Philippines, I'm afraid you'll have to pay extra to have them deliver it to her house, although I'm unsure what the fee is. I've attached a file that lists their rates as of last year.

Gerry did this! fedexed the docs to their office in NY and send it to my office 5 working days after!and we're not disappointed, he only spent around $25! Thanks for this thread Faith & Andz!

Hello guys! For anyone who's watching this thread, I found out today that my son's visa was approved yesterday. Our visas will get to us within 7-10 working days, hopefully. I called this number: (02) 301-2000 loc 5184 or 5185. This is the Immigrant Visa Unit at the Embassy. They can tell you the status of your case. Good luck, everyone!

Congratulations!

Hi! I got 221g form also last April 14, the CO asked for another CENOMAR and NBI with my uncorrected name(in the birth certificate). The CENOMAR I ordered online took 5-7 working days days as well as the NBI(I got a "hit" again!) So by this time, 2go will deliver the said docs and we will know later how long they are gonna process it...

You are still wrong, the Constitution protects all people who resides on America soil. The law doesn't separate legal VS ILLEGAL.

The Constitution protects the Citizens of the United States of America! The last time I checked an illegal alien had not taken an Oath of Allegiance to said Constitution!

I will grant you that the "USCIS may grant TPS to eligible nationals of certain countries (or parts of countries), who are already in the United States"... because they cannot return safely to their own country.

When the immigrant that you sponsor attempts to naturalize they will learn that the Constitution of the United States protects all people living on United States territory. Documented, undocumented, greencard holder, etc. Perhaps you missed 6th grade history??

Umm... last time I checked Haiti was an independent nation. What US Territory are you talking about? That's 4th Grade Geography! :bonk:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsUSCIS HAITIAN TPS huge numbers may be a hoax!!!

Anybody that works in the United States pays taxes. Bought a coke? paid taxes. Rode the bus? paid taxes. paid the electricity bill? paid taxes. Filing for temporary protected status only applies to those folks that are already living here in the US and guess what, paying taxes. What annoys me is the superiority complex of US citizens. Can't believe we find anti-immigration mentality here on VJ.

Its not an "anti-immigration mentality"... its a frustration over TPS petitions getting top billing over Fiance based petitions! If the USCIS/VSC kept the same amount of processing time for the K-1 type petitions from earlier months instead of going to an all stop that it is at now... we wouldn't have a problem.

And as far as a superiority complex...well after 24 years of Military Service to this Great Nation all I would like is a little bit of equal opportunity! The line started back 5 months ago I figured I'd at least see the counter by now!!!!

Venting done...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsUSCIS Big Fat Liars

What they were doing for the last five months was working on other people's petitions for a wide variety of different kinds of immigration benefits, most of which were probably filed before yours.

When they say they are working on petitions from a specific date, all that means is that's the date on the last box of petitions that was pulled from the shelf. If your petition was in a box dated before that then an adjudicator probably already has your petition. Does that mean they've already looked at it? No. It just means it's in the box with the other petitions that adjudicator is currently working on. If that adjudicator happens to be loaded down with difficult petitions, or gets distracted to process RFE's sent for previously processed petitions, or gets temporarily assigned to do something more pressing then K1 visa petitions, or takes a scheduled vacation, then your petition is going to wait. When that adjudicator finally gets to working on your petition then it usually doesn't take more than 15 or 20 minutes to adjudicate it, UNLESS there's a problem. Maybe there is a problem with a background check, causing your petition to be placed in a holding bin awaiting results of the background check. Maybe they need to send an RFE for something. Any number of things could cause your petition to be set aside until everything needed to adjudicate it is available.

The point is that the petitions arrive in chronological order, and get scheduled into the system in boxed sets which are roughly in chronological order. Once that box is pulled by an adjudicator then almost anything can happen to slow down processing on your petition, and many other petitions received after yours could end up getting processed first. It never hurts to check and make sure they haven't lost your paperwork. If it goes beyond the stated processing time then you can contact your congressman or senator and see if they can get some status information for you.

Other than that, be patient. You're going to be dealing with these bureaucrats for a few more years.

Thanks for the explanation! It helps to hear a rational voice once in awhile and this goes a little farther than "just be patient!"

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsVSC Comatose Once More

AI, you're clearly an intelligent person and I understand the frustrations. I believe everyone has the right to be frustrated by this process and by the way the system works. I'm sorry the last time you went through this was much smoother than now. I agree that petitions filed by the citizens should be priority on the part of the government body attending to those citizens. I agree that people going over their 5 month wait and being shooed away should utilize their state representatives. I agree that the system should be more transparent. I get all of that.

That being said, we're all waiting. The service centers have sped up and slowed down without rhyme or reason for years and so while it's great you were approved in 4 weeks the first time, that is by no means a guarantee of the same speed. You go into this process hoping for the best and expecting the worst. *shrug* It's annoying and I thought I would have my NOA2 at least a month ago, but we don't. I miss my fiance, too. I'll probably end up having a longer journey than you because I have a notoriously slow consulate to work with next; it's my understanding that the one you guys will be going through is relatively quick. I'm happy some people don't have 4-6 more months post-NOA2.

Point being, this is hard for everyone. I know not all people are naturally bubbly and positive and sunshiney and :goofy:. That's fine; you don't have to be. There are people, however, that are choosing to be positive. There are a ton of Igor's List members who have not logged on for months. There are a ton of VJ members who don't log on every day and who won't update immediately. There are a BIG ton of people who aren't VJ members.

*shrug* I think it's overly pessimistic to post a thread with this title after the progress slowed (from what we can see on VJ) for 2 days. It's overly impatient and presumptuous and it breeds hopelessness and frustration among people who are trying to just get through this. Don't get me wrong; you have the right to your feelings and I don't blame ANYONE for being frustrated with this process. I don't blame ANYONE for being sad that they can't be with their loved one right now. But dwelling and stewing and losing it when the service center slows for 2 days does not help anyone, especially you. Take a step back. Take care of other things in your life that you'd like to have settled when she does come, and at the very least, if you can't do that, refrain from the excessive swooping in on posts where people are trying to find things to be happy about and be hopeful for. It isn't "false hope" - maybe it isn't as quickly as we would like, but we are going to get through this. It's silly to suggest we'll all be in NOA2 limbo forever - and it saves a lot of our sanity to look for the good things and to keep busy.

You can choose to deal with the process in whichever way you choose, but please stop trying to get as many people as you possibly can on board the negative train.

Nicely done!

How do you get them to put in a service request? I've asked twice, both times after the 5 month mark and they give me the "Sorry but you're still within processing times and our system won't let me put in a service request" bullcrap. :(

I just asked to speak to a supervisor (I think they are usually an Immigration Officer). After asking about my status... I asked if there was any other action I could take and he told me he would put a service request in for me. Good luck!
