Question for the dual-citizens: did you/will you bring proof of your other citizenship to the interview? I was planning to bring my "other" passport... just not sure if it will cause more questions or not

CanadaFew questions!

Hi everyone!
I already posted something about these questions but i didn't really get the answers i needed.
Thanks in advance for taking some time to answer my questions. ^_^

1) Records of immunizations: Is my vaccination booklet enough?
2) Vaccinations: Do i need to get those done BEFORE the medical examination? Or will they give me the shots at the medical exam?
3) Police certificate: Do i need to get one from EVERY city i lived in since im 16? I've always lived in the province of Quebec, if i go to my local police station i'll be ok?

Thanks a lot!
Audrey :)

Hi Audrey,

1-2) That's what I brought to the medical, it was enough. I had to get a booster (Tetanos) and had it for free at my regular doctor...
3) Some SQ stations can provide you with a Police certificate, most do not offer this service. See: http://www.formulair...c...006&table=0
I went to a private place, cost me $25. Message me if you want the details, I'll search for the address.

This probably sounds pretty sad, but I don't think I'll be downtown for any of the Olympics. Maybe I'll change my mind and head down there this week or next...it's just so hard to get around down there during the games, and I'm not exactly "close" to Vancouver right now. If I was still living in Burnaby, it would be a no-brainer -- twenty minutes on the Skytrain and I'd be in the thick of it...but I'm currently on the outskirts. I love that Vancouver has the Olympics -- utterly love it! -- but I think I'll just participate as a couch potato!

It doesn't sound worst than my story of visiting the cities once the Olympics are over! Plus, we don't want you to get arrested by mistake during a street protest ~ just before the interview, très bad!

CanadaCanadian VJers Commentary on Winter Olympics 2010...

Yeah...I knew that the American was going to win as soon as the run was done. It's funny how that works -- you can barely watch a sport in your life, and yet you can just somehow TELL when one performance is ever so slightly better than another!

I thought Jennifer Heil was a bit sulky though...even the American Bronze medalist was enthusiastically jumping around etc., but Heil looked decidedly beaten. I guess that's what happens when you have the weight of a nation on your shoulders...

Sometimes it's trickier, but that was clear - plus, it's on TV, so not that easy to see the height and all the little details that count...

Any fun events to attend outdoor in Vancouver while you are still there? I went to Sydney and Athens right after the Olympics, and it was still nice to see the different public spaces arrangements with big screens and all. Decorated buildings were cool too!

Good to see Jennifer Heil get Silver! She skied her heart out, but finished second to an American who also skied her heart out. She did her best but was beat fair and square.

Already four medals today for the Americans!

Jennifer Heil has the cutest accent when she speaks French, I was rooting for her :P But, the American did real good too... I love moguls, the jumps are amazing!

CanadaCR1/IR1 interviews in Montreal this week

I just went through all my documents and methodically reorganized them according to Sdhiman's list. I also put Post-It tags on all of them, just in case. I'm DEEPLY comforted by your review, Sdhiman...you have no idea! I've gone from being "pretty sure" I have everything I need to being downright confident that I do. I've got extra copies of most things as well.

Thanks again!

I'll do the same and put the "extras" (other passport, previous Canadian passport to show how long I lived overseas, etc., husband birth certificate) in the back of my folder.

Thanks Sdhiman :)

Sounds like the $7 cash fare essentially gets you the a one-day tourist pass, which is also $7. All in all, pretty good deal. :)

That is also my understanding, I'm not sure tourists will be able to buy the other passes (3 and 7 days) on the bus though, but it's still a good deal.

Thanks for the great info, I will actually be heading that way in a few weeks so this helps a lot :)

Happy to help :)

I thought this may be of interest for some of you...

Summary: soon, it will be cheaper than ever to get from the airport to downtown. More stops than the Aerobus, so a shuttle may be unnecessary (depending on your hotel location).

_____________________________________________________________________
http://stm.info/English/info/a-747.htm

Take flight with the STM

On March 29, the STM will introduce a new bus service, the 747 Express.

Featuring nine stops in each direction, the 747 service will be provided 24 hours a day, 365 days a year between Montréal?s central bus terminal (Berri-UQAM metro station) and Montréal-Trudeau airport.

Highly anticipated, this shuttle service should fulfill the expectations of airport employees and of the countless people travelling between downtown and Montréal-Trudeau airport. The eight new buses, specially-designed for this service, are easily identified by their airborne look: [picture]

Buses on the 747 route are equipped with three luggage racks for the convenience of travellers. The $7 fare is payable in cash aboard the bus. It also provides travellers with a transit pass valid on the STM bus and metro network for the next 24 hours.

Other public transit fares can also be used for the express service, at no additional cost, including regular and reduced fare weekly and monthly CAM cards, 1-day and 3-day passes, and monthly TRAM cards, for zones 1 to 8.

Canadano PMs

Bern, COOL, you're going to interview soon -- very exciting -- if you need a hand with anything let me know, okay?

La Souris, Bonjour, ma belle... sorry for being so un-chatty -- just getting used to actually living here. It's a lot harder than I'd thought, for the first time in my life, I am suffering from some home-sickness, who knew???

Wyatt? you already know what I think...

Nev? Where you be, sister?

to everyone else, hey, hope you all had some good coffee... I really feel the loss of that hour, it should NOT be almost 4pm right now -- i am off to go have a late lunch/early dinner with some friends here in MD... I just wanted to ask all my Canadian friends here this, the ones that are living in the US with their spouses/spouses to be now... have you ever felt homesick? it's so odd I don't miss one thing per se but I miss my routine and my jobs and my friends and the 'thing' that is Canada I suppose -- I am THRILLED to be here and my husband and I are awesome and he rocks but I never expected myself to feel this way and I realize that acclimatizing is a little more work than I had thought.

I do love living where I do though for the first time in my life I actually want/need to drive -- can't wait to get that done. I love the woods and the trees and the quiet here. I love our house and being here and I can't wait to get everything else on the go but first? I have to get my license and a car and then I can go from there.

I LOVE that my cat is here -- she's adapted so well to the her new couch under the window. She and the other cat are NOT friends at all -- in fact, I think the other cat mortally hates me for bringing my cat here. She won't let me pet her and she meows at me with such urgency and then swats my hand away when I try to pet her. :( At least my old lady cat is semi-happy.

So... that's a little PM for all my friends here. Hope you're all doing well too.

Merci beaucoup :) It will get better... driving, getting around more easily. I'm really happy to hear about the old cat being happy lounging in the sun - maybe her and her roommate will become courteous to each other, slowly. I'm still très sad about leaving Mimine here :(

Getting ready for my man's arrival - lucky me he's coming for the interview and will stay for the week :P

À bientôt la Grenouille!

CanadaRenewing passport in USA but From Quebec

LaSouris-Really? Is this true?
Do you have a link that says that?
Hmm...I wonder if I can trade in a 5 year passport for a 10 year one?
Btw..Are they ever going to come out with passport cards (wallet-sized) too?
Definitely a good thing if this is true, indeed!
Ant

Passport cards: no, I don't think so and I don't see the point (since many countries would required a paper passport to stamp it).
Trade: hmmm, no. You would have to get a new one, as I understand it.
Here is the article, in French: http://www.cyberpres...ueil_ECRAN1POS2
"Le passeport électronique sera valide pour 10 ans (5 ans pour les Canadiens de 16 ans et moins)" - so, valid for 10 years for people over 16.

---
The 5 year passport is why I went with my other citizenship passport for so long, same price, good for 10 years.

CanadaRenewing passport in USA but From Quebec

Hi TrinaBee,

In answer to your question:

Unfortunately, if you are renewing/applying for a passport in your married name, you have to use the long form...

However, if you are renewing with your maiden name, you can use the short form...

Lol..I've "been there, done that"....As my previous passport was in my maiden name, and I needed a new passport in my Canadian name...And yes, I applied after I was in the USA (for about 3 years or so) too...

Oh yeah, and not to mention that it is bothersome to get guarrantors, references, and Canadian photo specs too...
Sigh, I wish Canadian passports were valid for 10 years instead of 5 too...

With all that hassle, it makes me wonder if I would ever renew my Canadian passport ever again...

Lol..It could be worse...At least it's not as bad as applying for an American passport (that's another story)...

Good luck with the rest of your journey and good luck in getting a Canadian passport too.

Ant

Starting (sometime) in 2011, Canadian passports will be good for 10 years :)

CanadaRenewing passport in USA but From Quebec
Did you legally change your name? If so, I think you have to use your new legal name... what name is on your Green card? But, I'm not sure you would have problems if you just sent the application in your maiden name - I remember my mom used to have papers in different names when they changed the law (in the 80s?) in Quebec. Maybe you would have to keep your marriage certificate with your passport, in case someone asks questions in the future. Good luck!

Thanks for your post... it got me motivated to review what needs to be done in Massachusetts; I read about it briefly last year, but now it's for real. I'll ask about the yearly taxes, I've never heard of it, but maybe it does exist there. Do you have to pass the test for the licence too? It is not necessary in MA, but I need to "present a driving record not more than 30 days old." So many little details...
