CanadaDo i have to have all documents in hand when faxing the packet 3 to Montreal?
I'll book the medical as soon as I get back on July 6th. That way i'll have the appointment set up. Then it'll just be a matter of renewing my passport which i'm also doing that week and getting my fiance and future father in law to give me their financials

Thanks Jill. I was really worried I would have to have it all figured out. I can get the medical and forms from my honey in about 10 days from when i fax everything so I'm glad to know I can go that route.

CanadaDo i have to have all documents in hand when faxing the packet 3 to Montreal?
Hi guys,

When i fax the DS-230 and the checklist back to the consulate, do i HAVE to have all those checklist documents in hand and the medical done already?

Or can i fax them and get the medical done right after that and get the I-134 from my fiance a week after faxing?

I will have everything but the I-134 and medical done and want to be able to send the packet in but don't want to do it until i know for sure if everything must be done beforehand.

Thanks.

CanadaFor anyone who used UPS to ship their stuff
Did you call them to get a quote for moving the bookcase or is there somewhere online that you checked that?

CanadaFor anyone who used UPS to ship their stuff
When shipping with UPS can you just start shipping things immediately or is it the same issue when you use movers that you need to cross the border before your things do?

CanadaDid anyone just move with boxes and almost no furniture? Wondering the cost
So i went and counted all my boxes last nite and realized my sisters are also stored with mine. Thats why i counted 70-80.

I really only have 40 boxes to bring as I counted 28 of them and know i'll have at least 10 more with clothes, purses, shoes and some other personal items i need to pack. And I decided not to bring my armoire as my mom would like to keep it so really only 2 tables and 40 boxes. Should cut my costs considerably.

I also started picking up my boxes and there are maybe 10 heavy ones with books and my 800 dvd movie collection. Hopefully the price will be better. And of course i now tagged all my boxes with red tape so i don't take any of my sisters belongings with me blink.gif

CanadaDid anyone just move with boxes and almost no furniture? Wondering the cost
I don't want anyone unpacking for me and they won't have to take anything up any stairs. I'll figure it all out myself as I go along and they can dump everything in the living room and dining room which is on the first floor.

I'd say some of my boxes weigh almost nothing and some of them are heavy but not SUPER heavy.
I'm moving from Montreal to South Florida and hoping it doesn't cost me more than 1000$.

When my mother moved from Florida to Montreal, she moved an entire house basically, it only cost her 3500$ so I'm hoping I won't have to shell out more than 1000$

CanadaDid anyone just move with boxes and almost no furniture? Wondering the cost
Hi guys,

When I move, I'll be moving with approximately 70-80 boxes and 4 pieces of small furniture. A table, a small armoire, a coffee table and a chair.

Did anyone else move with this kind of load and how much did it cost you approximately and with who if you don't mind my asking. I'm trying to figure out a cost before calling companies for quotes as I still have boxes to pack of stuff in my grandparents basement.

Thanks.

CanadaLeaving Canada/Who to Notify
What if you just sent the GST checks back to them as a return to sender once they arrive at your home?
Then would they know to stop sending them?

And if you write on your taxes that you no longer want the GST checks wouldn't that also stop them from coming to you?

Ya Treble its very near and dear to our hearts. We are huge Dave Matthews fans. I am actually missing the concert in Florida in August but my man will be there and I'm sure Dave will play it. He always does good.gif

CanadaQuestions about I-134
Thanks Huggles!

I'll tell my father in law to put in last years tax returns and the w2's for the last 3 years so that they can see his income has not changed. He makes plenty of money so I'm not worried about that being up for debate with the consulate.

As for a letter from his employer, I'll ask him about that too. He's the director/head of radiology for the hospital he works for so I don't know who would write that letter for him so I'll verify that.

Thank you for the answers to the other questions too.

I'm definitely including the last 3 years of taxes and W2's for my fiance. He was not making enough money to support me when we started dating but he was before that and is now so I just want to be able to show them all that info. That's also the reason we decided to use his dad as a co-sponsor...just in case.

CanadaQuestions about I-134
Hi guys! So i just renewed my passport and it'll be arriving on July 24th so I'll be able to schedule my medical as soon as I get in and then send in the paperwork back to the Consulate for the interview date. YAY!

My fiance and his father want to fill out the I-134 paperwork this weekend and I just have some questions about it.

Under question #7 where they ask you about your annual income and stocks and savings and all that: Do they have to get into all of that information? Or can they just write their annual salary and what is in their savings accounts and attach their W2's for the last 3 years?

My future father-in law is a doctor and makes a very high salary which is why we asked him to be our co-sponsor but I was hoping he would not have to explain all of his assets on the form and just be able to write his salary amount and savings on there with the w2's as evidence.

I already have the letter from my fiance's employer with me here in Canada that I got while on vacation a couple of weeks ago. Would I also need one from my father-in-laws hospital or will his W2's suffice?

For question #8, am i considered his dependent even though I am not living there yet?

And for question # 11, he doesn't intend to make SPECIFIC contributions to support me. I'll just be living in our house and being a housewife until my work papers go through so would he be correct in writing "do not intend to make specific contributions"?

Thanks so much guys.

CanadaTranslations
Hi there. I had to have my Quebec birth certificate translated from French into English and I just went to a translator and paid like 50$ for 2 copies of the translation. It does have her seal and says that she is a certified translator able to perform this task on it.

I did not have it notarized. If it becomes a problem, I will deal with it then. I was reading through some of the earlier posts from other people on here about the same subject and some did have it notarized and others did not. So far, I haven't seen anyone having a problem not having it notarized which is why i did not do it.

CanadaMedical Appointment Review - Medisys in Montreal
Thanks so much for the review. When its time for my medical I planned on going to Medysis so this is great info. Seems like they go fairly quickly there which is a plus.

Just out of curiosity, do they give you an extra copy of your records or can you request an extra copy. I'm paranoid about only having the one copy for the AOS. smile.gif

CanadaDS-156 question
Hi guys,

I did not fill out the DS-156 online, in fact I printed it out blank and filled it in by hand. It did however print out my barcode and everything.

Is it alright that I wrote it all out by hand? Or was I supposed to save the PDF and do it that way online?

I figured it was ok to write it all out by hand and then just make a couple photocopies of the pages. Please let me know if what i did is ok.

thanks.

CanadaJust want to make sure....
Awesome! Thanks! I'm actually making an extra looseleaf page and writing all my trips and stuff there. I think I have too many to write in that little space and I figure I'll just write out all I can remember there and hopefully that'll help out the interviewer. wink.gif

Thanks guys. I keep seeing peoples timelines and that it may take like 2 months or more to get an interview date so I want to send this stuff in as quickly as possible now. I'm supposed to get my passport on Friday so I'll finish up the DS-230 and send all that in on Monday. I'm also scheduling the medical as soon I get my passport back as well. I just want to get that interview date already. smile.gif

CanadaWhat happens if your SO loses their job or gets laid off right when you are about to get an interview?
Thanks for the responses guys. He's pretty sure he's going to be laid off this week. I'll let him know tonight to get on the job hunt immediately and I'll help him look as well through the online newspapers.

Again, THANKS VERY MUCH TO ALL OF YOU. smile.gif
I won't stress about it. I'm sure it'll be ok whatever the outcome.
domegirl1978FemaleCanada2009-07-21 18:04:00
CanadaWhat happens if your SO loses their job or gets laid off right when you are about to get an interview?
I'm trying very heard not to freak out right now. We are pretty sure he will be laid off and thats NOT good as I wanted to send in the papers to get the interview date this coming Monday.

I'm pretty sure that his taxes for the past 3 years will show that he did not make enough to support me financially. Maybe for a year and a half but definitely not for all 3 past years because at one point he was freelance writing from home making approximately 16,000$.

I know that if he got laid off this Friday he would definitely have a fire under his butt to try and find a new job immediately. I'm not worried about our co-sponsor's salary at all. I'm mostly worried that if he does find a new job, the interviewer will say something about him only being employed there a month or maybe a little more than that or maybe his new employer would not want to supply us with a letter from the company stating he's employed there. I would at least hope the interviewer would be happy he found a new source of income but who knows.
domegirl1978FemaleCanada2009-07-21 16:44:00
CanadaWhat happens if your SO loses their job or gets laid off right when you are about to get an interview?
Krikit, did you mean that if he were to get laid off now and found a new job right away that that would be the info he writes into the I-134? You wrote I-864 so i got a little confused.
domegirl1978FemaleCanada2009-07-21 16:22:00
CanadaWhat happens if your SO loses their job or gets laid off right when you are about to get an interview?
Hi guys!

Questions for you.

If my fiance were to get laid off now, what would happen when filling out the I-134.
We have a co-sponsor that makes more than enough money but how would the I-134s be filled out if my fiance DID get laid off now?

Another scenario: what happens if my fiance gets laid off just as I get approved and am about to move there?
How would this affect the AOS financial documents (I-864?)?

The reason I ask is because they are laying off people at his company as I write this and it may happen this week or it could possibly happen in 2-3 months to him. I would really like to be prepared for either scenario.

I know he would try to find another job immediately but I don't know how this would affect us now before I am approved or right after I get approved and have to deal with AOS.

Please help. Thanks

Canadawhat is to be done next.
Mine also cost me 40$ and I had to get it done at IFS downtown in Montreal because there are only 2 places you can get the background check done here and the police stations won't do it.

But I got my little yellow paper back within 5 days. But I also went on a Friday so it took a little longer than normal because of the weekend blink.gif But I got it and thats all that matters...lol
