Canadabirth certificate translation from Quebec
AHAHAHAHA Krikit you are hilarious.....Nope just sticking with 2 copies...i just called a translator and she said she'd charge me 35$ for 2 certified copies with her seal. She did inform me however that they will not be notarized (obviously as she's not a notary) and I don't think i will get them notarized. Certified seems to be ok as I've read in other people's posts. Hope I'm not wrong on that.

So should I be getting 2 certified translated copies of my birth certificate then just in case the Montreal interviewers keep one copy and then I have one for AOS?

I figure it does have to be translated because don't I also have to show my birth certificate for my AOS? By then I'll bei in the States and they may not be able to read the French.

Cool, thank you for letting me know about the police certificate. I will mention that at the police station.

On my document about the birth certificate it states: All certificates not in English must be accompanied by certified translations into English. Translations must be by a competent tranlator and sworn to him before a notary.

That "sworn to him before a notary" thing is throwing me off.

Hi everybody,

I am calling a few translators today and just wanted to make sure what I am asking them is right. I need the translation to be certified but does it also have to be notarized? I have like 7 originals of my birth certificate because I got paranoid just in case I needed to be handing them out. smile.gif

I'm also stopping by the police station today to see if they can give me my RCMP nationwide criminal check. Hopefully that can be done right on the spot and won't take too long.

Canadapictures for the medical and interview
Awesome! Thanks everyone.

So when I come from my trip I'll go get my 2 passport pictures done in Canadian size and the rest all in U.S. size
domegirl1978FemaleCanada2009-06-03 10:25:00
Canadapictures for the medical and interview
What is throwing me off with the pictures is that it states they have to be 2 inches x 2 inches and that is a U.S. standard size passport photo.

Then at the bottom of that same page is says: NOTE: The photograph standard is the same as those of Canadian passport photographs...but I don't think thats correct....I think our Canadian pics are slightly bigger.

YUP. I am super ####### when it comes to things being done and organized. I had those birth certifcates sent to me almost a year ago when we first decided we were going to go the K-1 route so imagine.....LOL....

I have an accordion file folder already full of documents and copies and pictures and supporting evidence. My only fears now are that i'll either forget something or do something wrong and I'll be really pissed with myself if that happens so I"M APOLOGIZING TO YOU ALL NOW....in case I ask a million questions and bother the ####### out of you all. innocent.gif

Hi guys!

The packet 3 section talking about pictures for the medical and interview says that they are the Canadian passport size. Just want to make sure thats right before I go and get a bunch done. I'm also renewing my passport next month and figure I'll just get 8-10 and be on the safe side.

Someone once told me its the American passport size but I want to confirm with you all that it is actually the CANADIAN passport size.

Thanks everyone!

Canadawhen adjusting status comes is there another medical exam?
Hi everyone!

I was reading through all the stuff that has to be done for the AOS and was wondering when reading the part about the medical after AOS so we have to go through another medical exam?

More specifically, do we have to get tested again in the U.S. for the HIV and syphillis and all that good stuff or is just here in Canada that this happens?

thanks. star_smile.gif

My male relatives do give each other the kiss-kiss on the cheek when they see each other. Its a Spanish thing. Any usually they only do it when they haven't seen each other for a long time along with a big hug.

I have never kissed my dad on the lips. But again, I have many a friend who does and thats been the norm since they were little. Like a little peck on the lips. I'll just stick to just kissing my man on the lips.

Oh see, thats one I do too. I call my mom either MA, MOM, MOTHER or MOMMY. It all depends on what the conversation is at the time.

HAHA! Has anyone ever seen the family guy episode where Stewie is harassing Lois with the "mom" thing??

Oh and this is funny. My future mother in law calls my fiance PAPI. LOL!

She says it as a term of endearment though and it sounds cute when she calls him that. I make fun of him all the time and talk to him like his mom does to him. He laughs and blushes every time. HAHA.

He's just lucky I don't call him Andy like his mom does. He HATES that...His name is Andre and like to be called either Andre or Dre. ANDY! HAHAHA!

Yes Jill, it is VERY creepy. I personally know a few people that do it and it makes me nervous any time i hear them say it.

One couple I know refer to themselves as Mmmy and Daddy. And guess what? They have no kids! I'll call their house and ask " Hey is Mary home?" and her husband will reply, "Oh no, Mommy is at the hairdresser. She'll be back soon."

Or if she answers it'll go like this: "Oh Daddy is planting some things int he backyard right now."

OR (CREEPY) check this one out: "Daddy bought me the most beautiful flowers today."

SERIOUSLY. UGH. Too weird for me and they ALWAYS do it.

CanadaPeople who refer to a father figure as "daddy"
I speak spanish and english to my dad so it depends on what language I'm using.

In Spanish, which was the only language I spoke until i was 3, I call my dad (Pa), (Papa) or (Daddy-prounced the spanish way which comes out sounding like Da-Di). Because of that, in English I used Dad mostly but Daddy quite a bit at home only.

My father had a rule about only speaking spanish in the house because English and French were taught to us in school and he wanted us to maintain our ancestral language (we are from Spain). I'm glad he did that as I am now tri-lingual.

Personally, I dislike using the term daddy when referring to your significant other. If others like it thats all good. But I would never call my fiance Daddy and I certainly wouldn't refer to him in spanish as others do with the term "PAPI" I HATE that. My fiance is hispanic and he also dislikes the term "PAPI". Many hispanic women call their mates this and they are then called "MAMI" in return. NO THANKS. smile.gif blink.gif

CanadaHave to have surgery...UGH
What i meant to say was that yes, they put me on the cancellation list. But they said that i probably will not get called because of so many people ahead of me so Aug. 9th will be my appt. Maybe something freaky will happen and i'll get something sooner. But August is better than October which is what they originally told me I'd get as an appt. And I'm definitely going to see if I can get my surgeon to operate on me sooner. She'll be earier to convince because she knows I'm going through all this visa stuff

CanadaHave to have surgery...UGH
So I have my EMG scheduled for this Monday. I could not believe they scheduled me so fast for that. Its a 2 hour exam which does not sound fun but hell, i need it so i'm going.

My MRI date was given to me for June 28th but because I will be in Florida on vacation they then had to push me back all the way to August 9th.

This means my next surgeon appointment will only be the last week of August so surgery will probably be scheduled for October-November the way its looking now. So my plans to leave earlier have been thwarted. The only good thing is all my debts will be paid off and I will be able to save a little more.

However, I am going to try and convince my surgeon to push me up on the surgery list because she knows I am going through all this visa stuff and want to go and get married. Maybe she'll take pity on me and bump me up. laughing.gif

CanadaHave to have surgery...UGH
Hi guys! So I went to my surgeon today and its not arthritis. Its actually some rare called an entrapped nerve in my ankle. Basically now I have to wait 2 months to get an MRI and an EMG test done and then she will schedule me for surgery which consists of an epidural and then her cutting into my ankle and releasing the nerve.

I'm really kind of bummed because she was telling me I won't be able to have surgery for at least 4 months and thats basically the time i'd be leaving if all goes smoothly with the interview and whatnot. UGH! But there is nothing i can do about it. My fiance knew there might be a possiblity of a surgery and 2-3 weeks on crutches is better than the 6 weeks i would have to be on crutches if it was a surgery for arthritis. Still sucks though.

Hi guys. Could someone please tell me what is in packet 4 from the Consulate besides your interview date?

I heard that there is another mini checklist in there and one of the items is a new letter of intent. I'd like to know so I can gather up all of those documents with my packet 3 documents.

Hi guys,

Thanks. smile.gif

CanadaHow often to you get to see your fiance/spouse?
I think the only thing that makes the 3-4 months we don't see each other any better is that we talk every day for at least 2 hours. My friends think i'm crazy and what could we possibly have to say for 2 hours or more a day but we always have stuff to talk about.

Hi guys. I was thinking about it last night and thought I'd post a thread asking everyone how often you get to see your fiances/spouses?

For me its usually every 3-4 months. It'll be 3 months now when i leave for Florida in 2 weeks.

I thought bank statements proved that you were still putting money into the account from an employer every week therefore that was good backup evidence to go along with the letter from my employer.

I'm really more worried about them ransacking my luggage in secondary and then not being able to put it all back together again properly when they are done. laughing.gif

Oh well. I've hunted everywhere for it and I must be missing it somehow when i go through the posts. No biggie.

I have loads of proof such as my bank statements, ING statements, letter from my employer, letter from my cell phone company stating i have a contract with them until january to be paid off and i'm bringing my NOA1, NOA2 and the I-129 and a copy of my packet 3 from the consulate. I also have a return ticket. So i should be ok, I hope.

Hi guys!

Does anyone know where the link is to the area where we are told we are encouraged to visit our significant others during the K-1 process?

I know I read another post about it somewhere but if someone can send me over to a govt. link where it might state something to that effect that would be great.

I figured I would print it out and bring with me with all my "ties to canada" info when I go to Florida next week just in case I get pulled into secondary and they make a stink about it. You never know with newbies in the customs area and how well versed they are about the visa stuff.

I figure I won't show them anything more than they ask for.

And technically, I guess I can always tell them if they start busting my chops to call the Florida DMV customer service line and speak to the agent who told me what I needed whistling.gif

The lady said I did not need any AOS papers at all when i asked her about that.

Now that I think about it, maybe its because I used to live there and they still have my license on file and will just be issuing me a new one for the state of Florida. She checked and I am still on file from 2001 when I left the last time.

CanadaMy Florida DL experience
Just wanted to write a little note here saying I called the Florida DMV and they told me that all I had to do to get a license there was to bring my passport, utility bills with my florida address and my name on them, my ssn number and my quebec license.

The lady also said to bring my marriage certifcate and my K-1 papers (Just in Case) but that the other things should be sufficient and I would get my 8 year Florida license. She did say that I would have to give up my Quebec license though
which is fine by me. I would not have to take a road or written test.

Thanks HuggleBuggles. I completely forgot i need the passport for the medical. I'll wait til i have the new one back to schedule the medical. Shouldn't take more than 2-3 weeks to get it back anyway. I'll book the medical as soon as I get back on July 6th. That way i'll have the appointment set up. Then it'll just be a matter of renewing my passport which i'm also doing that week and getting my fiance and future father in law to give me their financials
