When I checked just now under ASC's I see Mobile uses Metairie. My biometrics appointment was sent out about 4 weeks after my NOA1 and we had about 4 weeks notice of having to go there. Unfortunately that means you may be waiting a little longer for your notice. They really struggle at that office, it is always slow.

In New Orleans you would be able to go with your husband and sit with him in the waiting area, they wouldn't let you do that in Atlanta? You don't sign in, you just wait. At some time around your appointment time they will yell from the window for all appointments for that hour. Your husband will get in the line to get the form. They will want to see his appointment letter and GC. They will stamp the appointment letter and give him a clipboard with a form to fill in, the GC will be clipped to the clipboard. He will then fill in the form (it's very short), return it to the window and sit and wait to be called. It took me about 5-10 minutes to be called up as I was the first person to return the form to the window. The later the forms are returned to the window the longer he would have to wait to be called up. You will not be able to go into the room where they take the biometrics. The actual procedure doesn't take that long, 5-10 minutes. They will give your husband a booklet to revise for the civics test and ask you to fill in a comments card. Then you are free to go!

Okay, great. Thanks for all the information. When we lived in B'ham and he had to have it done there, it actually said on the appointment letter no one other than the applicant could come in. Could be because it was a small office. We also lived in Tampa when he had his conditions lifted and that letter said the same thing. I guess the NO office is bigger - that's nice. At New Orleans they won't give you the forms until your appointment time. There were a lot of people waiting so knowing this I rushed to the window first, filled in the forms and returned the forms first. My husband laughed at how "American" I have become. I'm sure everyone else was mad that I did that but I'm 7 months pregnant and those chairs were killing me after the long drive.
I was the first called in so my wait time wasn't that long. People who had their appointments an hour before me were still being processed up until we were called up for the forms, so some would have waited a whole hour. It is always like that there, I hope you don't have to go there!

Can you clarify please? So you go in and you sign in? Then when you look at your watch and it's your appointment time you went up and asked for the forms then? Since I was not allowed to go in with my hubby when he had his biometrics at the other offices, I could not remember how it works. Wonder if I have to stay out in the car at New Orleans too? I was just confused when you said you rushed to the window first not knowing if you meant before they called your name or as soon as your time came up. Sorry if I didn't understand. Ha ha! :goofy:

When I went for my biometrics appointment last week they were extremely busy as they were down one person, so the girl doing my fingerprints wasn't really very talkative. I did manage to get her to tell me that they do interviews and oaths at the Metairie location but she couldn't confirm if that's where mine would be. Local people have told me they did their oaths here and in Jackson though!

Yes, hubby is still waiting though the person below us on the timeline who sent paperwork in one day after us, got their check cashed one day before us, and got their NOA dated one day before us added their biometrics appointment on Friday so I am hoping that Keith finds out today (via email or text) that his biometrics is set up.

Since they were so busy last week, what was your wait time versus your appointment time? :goofy:

You should check with USCIS that you will get sent to Atlanta. If you applied from where you are living now I would think you would go to Metairie? Hopefully you will get more sense out of them than I did yesterday.

Rocks - I know Atlanta is our "local office" as I went to the USCIS site and put our zip code in and it showed Atlanta. Metairie is where my hubby's biometrics will be but we will have to drive to Atlanta for his interview, which as I said on a post from yesterday, is farther away from either Metairie, LA or Jackson, MS. We wish it was closer, but that's what it shows on USCIS site for our zip code. :goofy:

My husband had a same day oath in Atlanta last July. I don't remember what the cut-off time was but you are right that if your interview is in the morning you can generally have your oath on the same day.

I hope they are processing the petitions a bit quicker now, his took from January to July.

Another question please. Is there anyone on here that had their interview in Atlanta and their Oath Ceremony the same day that has filed in late 2011 or 2012? I saw an old thread dated 2009 where evidently Atlanta will do this IF your interview is completed by 1:30. It stated that Atlanta gives the Oath daily. I am wondering if they still do this. That would be GREAT! :goofy:

This is a frustrating process. I've been in line for an interview since July 17. I've called the USCIS hotline and opened a service request and still haven't heard any updates. I'm now writing the Georgia Senators hopefully to get some traction/answers on when my Interview date will be. Would any of you recommend using Infopass to make an appointment and requesting an update or is that a waste of time?

Wow. I had always looked at your status since you and my husband were only one day apart and both going to Atlanta and I just thought you weren't updating your status anymore. I am sorry to hear that you haven't gotten an interview letter yet. You even did your biometrics about three weeks before my husband. Are you applying as 3 years married to a citizen or 5 years? My husband applied based on 5 years though he has lived here 7 now. :goofy:

Wow, that's not many per oath ceremony given the size of Atlanta and the amount of applications they process. Thanks for the extra information though. Still no change here - keeping an eye on the mailbox though. Some have reported they received their IL without any change to their online status, so I'm not relying on the website to keep me current. Just eager to get it done with. Waiting stinks

Thanks for posting your ATL experience, Shari. I applied at the end of June - straightforward case. I've been in the queue for IL since July 30th, patiently awaiting IL. I live near enough that I don't expect a same-day oath but an acquaintance of mine lives about 4 hours away so I hope she gets same day oath (her interview is on the 25th). She applied the same time as me - but hers has a military connection so that might speed things up.

Hoping when my turn comes up it's easy like that Been here for 12+ years now and English is my first language so hoping for a smooth process. Congrats to your husband!

The lady that held the oath ceremony told us that usually they have 10 people a day in the oath ceremony (which I thought was quite a small amount since it was Atlanta and they have plenty of seats in the ceremony room) but that on 9/11 they had 35. I told my husband to make sure he asked during his interview if he could have his ceremony the same day since we drove so far but I guess that is something they always do so the officer told Keith before Keith even asked about it.

I think we had been in line since July 17th and then got the appointment letter on August 11th, exactly one month before the interview date, so you may be receiving your letter any day I would suspect. My husband was here nearly 7 years before he applied so didn't have to bring all the marriage-based information either. Good luck! :goofy:

My husband's Atlanta interview/oath experience today:

His appointment was at 8:15 a.m. The letter said not to arrive any more than 30 minutes beforehand. We went in to the building at 7:45 a.m. and into a registration window where they told us to go to the 2nd floor. His number was Q19. After five minutes, the next officer came out and called Q11. Wow. They were on time. That is good if you get the early appointments. By 8:20 a.m. (5 minutes after his appointment time) they called his number. The officer said to go up to the 3rd floor, he would get Keith's file and meet us up there. It took him about 8-10 minutes to come up and get my husband.

My husband said the officer was nice and didn't even administer oath to tell the truth (hmmmm). The officer immediately asked him the six questions which my husband answered and then the officer told him he passed. After that is when he read and wrote his sentence. The officer said my husband's file was very straight-forward with nothing to slow down the process with asking any further questions and they even joked a minute or two. The officer checked the boxes on the form fast and said he appreciated how fast and easy it was and how he wished everyone's could be that fast. He then told my husband since we drove 5-1/2 hours from Alabama that he could have his oath ceremony that afternoon.

We did, it was great, and my husband is now an American!! Now just to change driver's license, social security card, and get a U.S. Passport. :goofy:

My husband had his interview/testing this morning in Atlanta and PASSED! We get to go back at 2:00 for the Oath Ceremony and then he will be done. I got a text message from USCIS at 2:31 a.m. just stating that my husband had been scheduled for an interview. Duh, it is next week, we got the paperwork three weeks ago. I am glad for the updates but in the middle of the night? I'm sure some of you are saying you shouldn't have your phone turned on then but my kids live hours away and my daughter is expecting a baby in October so I keep it turned on. Who works at USCIS in the middle of the night? LOL now but aggrevated at 2:31 this morning. :goofy:

I passed my interview today, It went smoothly, here are the questions I was asked:

- What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?
- What is the economic system in the United States?
- Who is in charge of the executive branch?
- If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?
- There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them.
- What is one reason colonists came to America?

Now I have to wait for the oath letter, the officer told me that there will be a big ceremony on 09/11 and probably that will be my oath date

Hello,
It looks like I'll have to have my fingerprint taken again. I got a letter stating that FBI was unable to process my fingerprint card. I got the same notice when I was processing my AOS and it's soo frustrating! Also I have to spend $100 each time for travelling to the ASC.

Not sure if anyone is interested (and I have a feeling something similar was mentioned before), but would anyone else be interested in adding two bits of info to the chart - one for whether it was a 3 or 5 year rule application, and another for the date you became eligible to apply.

I know alot has to do with the office you are with, but was interested if 5 year rules are quicker, or if a long time between eligibility and application makes any difference.

I was eligible to apply May 2006 if I had used the 3 year rule, but had traveled a great deal and put it off because of the travel records. Finally got round to it, and used the 5 year rule to save on the proof documents.

What do you all think?

I think that would be great. As someone said before, I don't think we really need the date the check was cashed. I would rather see the biometrics location instead of when checked was cashed in order to ask someone that had gone to that location questions about it. I think knowing the 3 and 5 year rule would be great. It will take a while to add the new columns and then go down and fix everybody's information though, but go for it if you want. :goofy:

You don't have it explained quite right. Eligibility date is 3 years (married to USC) or 5 years from the date on your greencard...Resident since________. You are not "eligible" to be a citizen before that date. That's not the date you can apply. You can apply 90 days early.

Not really because some are not eligible until five years past their first GC rolls around because they may be divorced from the person they married or may not have ever married a USC. They may have gotten their GC through their son, sister, or work for example. If they apply 90 days before their eligibility date, they wont be a citizen until they cross 3 or 5 years. The ones who may move faster may have had their GC 20 years, but didn't bother to apply. Or like your husband was eligible in 2009(?) but didn't go for it then. He is already eligible while some of the others have a 90 wait built in because of applying before their eligibility date. Hope that makes sense and helps.

My bad. I guess I got confused. I just went in and replaced my list with the previous one that doesn't have Eligiblity Date. I don't want to confuse anyone. :goofy:

Adding a column for Eligibilty Date which is the date you can apply for Citizenship, NOT the 90-day date before your Eligibility Date that you may send off your application. By including this date, we can better track how long it takes to get through the whole process. It is suggested that people that apply 90 days before may have their application processed and biometrics taken but have to wait until their actual Eligibility Date to get an interview date. This will also track whether those applying based on the 5-year eligibility get processed faster because they are well past their eligibility date and there would be no wait by the USCIS.
If you check this list out, please add your Eligibility Date. Thanks! :goofy:

6. I heard if we do go over, we should buy an airplane ticket with a return for many 2 weeks even if we plan to stay longer as to not alert immigration over there with questions. Anyone know anything about this.

I bought a one way ticket and I was never questioned about it.

I know this must be a really difficult time for you all, distance from our loved ones at times like this is hard to deal with in many ways.

Nick-Nick makes many valid points in her post. I have just returned from a 3 month stay with my parents upon learning that my 75yr old father had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of mouth cancer, and to be honest I wasn't sure how long I would have to be gone, he had a 9hr surgery to remove his jaw and have it rebuilt from leg bone...being there for both of them was also my main priority and all I could think of at the time. I left and returned home during his 3rd week of radiotherepy.

I know how much it sucks to think of being separated as a couple for any length of time, but having your husband go to England for a few months is worth thinking about for now, and if more drastic moves are needed, then you can work things out from there.

I wish you both the best in your decision making.

I am sad to say that my visa journey is now over. My husband and I have decided that it is time to go our separate ways. We still have an enormous amount of love for one another and this decision makes us both sad, but as we started out as good friends we will remain that. There are other personal reasons but as some of you know I have never been able to quite get over my homesickness and it has been a huge stumbling block in our life here.

I have made some treasured friends here on VJ, and I am so thankful for that....I have had some fun, fun times here and feel privileged to have shared peoples journeys over the years, seen the wedding pics and seen the babies arrive! We are at times a dysfunctional family here on VJ, but the love and support never goes away.

Although it is a sad time I am sooooo excited about going back home and seeing my children, family and friends, and going back to work...yay!! It's a new chapter to embrace.

I wish you all well in new and continued visa journeys!

Blood Titre Test in the UK (Spelling?)

I believe the Varicella (AKA Chicken Pox)vaccine is not required at this stage as it is not a vaccine that is readily available in the UK, but I just had my vaccines redone...I did end up wtih the Varicella vaccine as I had mine done at a USAF base in the UK.
