PhilippinesI miss home
QUOTE (babycris @ Jul 1 2008, 06:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I understand how you felt. There is no place like home, sometime I am thinking that saying but now I am here with my own family and having a little angel all I have to do is to think that someday I will be home (pinas) again even for a while because I have my new home now my MY OWN FAMILY that I love, but it doesn’t mean I don’t like pinas now I missed my family in the Philippines but this is the path that I chose and no regret. I am happily married with wonderful little angel…

Godbless u and ur cute baby smile.gif

QUOTE (PJB @ Jul 1 2008, 01:45 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
When I lived in Russia I had no internet so I could only catch glimpses of home on the TV in American made shows and commercials (all translated into Russian of course). I had secret stashes of peanut butter and jellybellies. Now that I am stuck in the US I feel like an alien and crave anything that reminds me of my Russian home and husband.
Cross cultural marriage changes both partners into halfbreeds.......... wink.gif

does PJB stands for peanut butter jelly bellies smile.gif I understand how u feel. I feel like an alien sometimes too. My hubby takes me to asian market on sundays, we eat asian food and he makes me meet filipina friends to at least make me feel at home. There are times though that my brain just "lock" it self and dont understand english and just crave to speak in my native dialect...Hubby is doing his best to learn my dialect too.
It is really true that no matter how humble our home maybe - there is really no place like home smile.gif Shaun told me that is home is where i am at. Well, he is my home too, but my country philippines is my home - home. smile.gif

PhilippinesI miss home
I have been washing some clothes by hands today and it reminded me of home - where laundry means a basinful of "bula", a pang- kuskus on one hand and a friend or a sister to share a story with on the other hand. I will be looking for Perla or blue wheel later in the nearby filipino store ( ihope they have some).

In the mean time, i want to share some youtube videos that made me miss home all the more.

thanks to you tube, i can now have access to pinoy tv ads sad.gif sayang wala kami tfc sad.gif

We filed for SSN 3 weeks after i arrived in KCMO. We just presented my passport, (I-94,visa), birthcertificate and Marriage License - (because we are applying SSN using my married name).
I read in VJ that u cant apply for SSN if ur I-94 will expire in two weeks. I hope u can talk to someone from ur state who can give light on ur query. Goodluck smile.gif

PhilippinesMY LAST DAY IN THE OFFICE
April 02, 08 - last day of being employed
april 03,08 - CFO
april 04 - flight to MO

stressful ang last day of duty because of hectic skeds, but it was really heart breaking too..(drama). My co workers had a farewell/bridal shower party for me on my last day of duty. I was sad because my hospital family was my second home - my co-workers my second family. They gave me heart rending speeches..huhuhu. I still cry every time i review the recording of that day.
I took a week long vacation (with pay) and spend time with my family (my resignation was effective right after the vacation). toxic ang mind sa kakaisip ng flight, pamilya at mga bilihin sa divisoria..hehehe.

Now is the longest stretch of time that i am unemployed - huhuhu...i am baby sitting (sideline) and i miss working. And i miss home smile.gif

hehehe..saying "secret" has been part of bisaya expressions..like when someone asks what i am doing..i smile and say "secret"...i do tell my husband that phrase "secret" or secreto para bibo...there's no offense to that word but it drives him nuts and bugs me to tell what is the secret....we just say that when we dont want to make long explanation or too tired to explain or cannot find the right words to explain something smile.gif

PhilippinesKAKAIBA
speaking of kakaiba...here are some things i noticed na kakaiba:

1. PBJ - i was a little bit confused the first time shaun's newphew asked me if i want a PB&J (what the heck is a PB&J) - ah, it's a peanut butter & jelly - bakit nila kelangan ng dalawang classeng palaman?

2. the self service gas stations (kakaiba) hehehe - and also the tubil muna bago bayad style - galing smile.gif

3. yung mga serving nang mga pagkain sa mga restaurant - dalawang tao sa pinas pwede kumain ng isang orderan. (me and hubby always share food. tipid at iwas taba)

4. mga batang walang uniform sa skwela - kung ano lang ang feel nila - at wala silang hair code. (we live right next to a high school)

5. ito na-amaze ako at kumakain din pala mga kano ng tilapia at talagang tilapia ang pangalan ng isda. galing galing smile.gif kaso lang fillet na yung isda sad.gif

about patis shape - punta ka dito KC chinatown - dami dito patis, datu puti, ligo, bihon, etc, etc, etc.

maligayang pagmamasid sa kakaibang kapaligiran..(naning kaau ang bisaya/ilongga..hehehe)

PhilippinesAnyone near Iligan City, Mindanao
I am from iligan but my hometown is cotabato . two places that are always ravaged by the never ending wars. I called mom last week and she said the ground shook each time the armies fired the cannon. But now there's the ceasefire and they have peace at least for a while.

I called my co-workers in Iligan and she said that all classes are suspended and the curfew is strictly followed. The bad thing is she work late at night in the hospital so that means they have to go to the hospital extra early. It's sad and scary. I have experience those things before, how to tremble in fear each time the army sorround our baranggay, or each time we hear the machine guns go off. Or each time the wounded soldiers go to the hospital all bloody and dying I wished i never seen them.

We need to pray for them..we are far from them and all we can do is pray I know God sees all these things. And He will do something about this in his own time.

PhilippinesSurvey Says?
My dad is my idol. He is an ilocano and he speaks fluent Ilocano, Ilonggo, Cebuano (with accent), Maranao, Maguindanaon, Spanish, Arabic, English, and of course tagalog. Unfortunately I only speak Ilonggo, Bisaya (iligan style),tagalog and English. I am more comfortable with bisaya and ilonggo though. I live in Iligan and I am trying to learn the muslim dialect (Maranao). Gone are the days of tribal wars between ilonggo versus ilocano or ilonggo versus bisaya. I love it when i gather around with my cousins and friends from all over the philippines and we talk in different dialects. It reminds me of the song of MAX SURBAN....

May tulo ako ka amigo, na pulos gayud gwatsinanggo
Makainum gani malipong ang ulo, mogula ang pagkamaldito

I am using my two first names in all my legal papers. so i should enter my names this way in the DS form? (i feel so dumb..huhuhu)

7. First and Middle names (as in passport)
CLAUDINE MARGARETTE BARRETTO

where CLAUDINE MARGARETTE are my given names
and BARRETTO is my middle name (mom's surname when she was still single).

I have questions too....i have two given names. plus a middle name (my mom's maiden family name), plus my surname.
in my passport it looks like this:

Apelyido/ surname: SANTIAGO
Pangalan / given name: CLAUDINE MARGARETTE
Panggitnang pangalan / Middle name : BARRETTO

so what will i write in the DS form ????

pleas help!

If you have still been using Margarete fill in all the names with surname as last name. If you are using the normal form of first, mother's surname, surname, fill that in with Claudine Barretto in first and Santiago last, then use the birth name where it asks for other names.

PhilippinesAnother Fee Increase
Thank you edp333 for the info.....

Effective January 1, 2008, the application fee for a U.S. non-immigrant visa will increase from $100 to $131. This increase allows the Department to recover the costs of security and other enhancements to the non-immigrant visa application process. This increase applies both to non-immigrant visas issued on machine-readable foils in passports and to border crossing cards issued to certain applicants in Mexico.

Applicants who paid the prior $100 application fee before January 1 will be processed only if they are scheduled and appear for a visa interview before January 31. Applicants who paid the prior $100 application fee and appear for visa interviews after January 31, 2008 must pay the difference -- $31 -- before they will be interviewed.

i hope it doesnt apply to applicants in philippines .....sad.gifsad.gif
