US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat are people doing about medical insurance?
If all goes well with my interview tomorrow (fingers crossed!), I'm entering the States next week with my K1 visa. As I'm not going on holiday, I'm assuming that my usual Boots holiday travel insurance plan will no longer be valid. But I won't be married either, so I don't think John can add me to his health insurance.

I was wondering what other people were doing?

Thanks for your help

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionChecking Case Status Online
It may be annoying but may not be a problem.

The online case status system never recognized the number on my biometrics appointment letter even after biometrics had been taken, but in spite of this I got my 10 year greencard in the mail a couple of days ago. kicking.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPrenup...?
Hmmm...seems to me that being able to discuss the possibility of a prenup is a sign of love and respect for your partner. It means that you want to come to a fair decision about what each person would be entitled to if things don't go to plan. And if one of you doesn't think it fair, then don't get married!

I don't think that considering what would happen if the relationship ended is a sign that you are actually expecting it to end.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSelf sponsorship?
Actually, if you self-sponsor in London you don't need the I-194 at the interview. I emailed the Embassy first to check on this and as they confirmed this I did not bring one (and brought a copy of their email telling me I didn't need to). Passed interview with flying colours. I will need to produce I-864 when I apply for AOS.

However, I recommend that people check themselves with the Embassy if they're planning on not bringing filling out an I-194 as it's not stated clearly on any of the websites that it is not required.

Sorry, I meant I-134, not I-194. All these numbers are going round and round in my head....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSelf sponsorship?
I self-sponsored, but I'm afraid I have no idea what the minimum amount you have to demonstrate is. Perhaps someone else knows.

I emailed the London Embassy to check on what was needed and they told me that I didn't need to fill out any forms at all. Just had to demonstrate having sufficient funds (I used copy of bank account, tax return and letter from tax accountant of which only the latter was needed) and had to write a statement showing how I would transfer funds to the US. I stated in the letter that I had already made an international money transfer to my US fiance's bank account (of which I had a copy which they didn't ask to see) and that I would do another if these funds proved insufficient to support me until I received EAD). I also said that I was keeping my UK bank account open and that I could withdraw funds using my ATM card.

At the interview they were happy with this but told me that I would need more than this, i.e. sponsorship forms when it came to applying for AOS.

Hope this helps

My indication was when the immigration officer said 'Congratulations'. Of course I barely heard her through my tears...

So, congratulations to you too!!   I know it's hard to believe at first. After all you go through to get there it does seem as though there should be a fanfare or fireworks to mark the moment!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan I send the I129f
We sent in the petition while I was in the States. On one of the forms it asked about visits to the US. I wrote that I was currently in the States on 90 day VWP, the date I had entered and the date I was leaving. I thought it was wise to be completely upfront and demonstrate my intention to leave the States within the allowed time rather than risk an RFE. I think I may have also included a copy of my flight itinerary back to the UK.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed to help a friend...
It definitely can be done but if you decide to do so, be very careful. Make sure you carry LOTS of evidence of ties to the UK and a return ticket back to the UK dated for a couple of weeks later. You can change this ticket later for a fee if you change your plans re: how long to stay...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit Of Support???????
I self-sponsored going through the London Consulate instead of doing the Affadavit of Support (I emailed them first to ask if the assets I could demonstrate were enough and if the proof I intended to show would be acceptable - make sure you do this if going this route) but note that this is ONLY for the K1 stage. I think you are basically showing that you can support yourself for the 90 days from the date you enter the States until your K1 runs out.

Now we are married and I'm doing the next stage (adjustment of status), it's a different story because it refers to support for a very long time! At this point. you DO need an affadavit of support. If you, the US citizen cannot demonstrate income over 125% of the poverty line, you will need a co-sponsor who does. Can be family, friend, anyone, but must be a US citizen.

Hope this helps

Alison (F)

P.S. Also, I think you said your fiance's son is 17? I wonder if sponsoring him once he reaches 18 becomes a problem? Maybe someone else knows about this?
