You go for it, life is too short, one of my favorite patients passed from a massive stroke this weekend. Yes she was old, but damn life is short, and you better grab on to what you can, and by the way when you are sitting in the nursing home one day you will have some great stories to tell. good.gif Bridget is right about children, just try to shield them as much as you can. I am off for one week, OMG I am freaking off for one week, I do have that paper that the hospital wants to publish to finish, ok, to at least get some pages started. Pray for me people. lol wacko.gif

Amen sister G_G, I was thinking the very same thing, life is to short. Good luck, Tammy. You do what in your heart is best for you and your family. I wish for you all the happiness you deserve. good.gif

He filled out some application about a year ago, and yesterday he got an email saying
Your application is confirmed

You are eligible to participate in the coming Green card lottery.

It is from USAGC, DV Lottery Services

Anyone ever heard of this? Is it some kind of scam?

No ,there is a Diversity lottery every year. Check the USCIS website for details.
But they dont send out eligibilty emails, you just apply. And if you qualify, you may win the DV lottery to come to USA.

Here is the link to the 2011 diversity lottery > http://www.dvlottery.com/

Beth, that is a ".com" I am not even sure that is right. At the bottom of the link you gave it says, "not affiliated with the United States Department. I think this one is the correct one. http://travel.state....types_1322.html Any official site that has to do with the US gov't will have a ".gov" at the end.

Use only the real DV lottery site. There is never an application fee or processing fee for the REAL DV lottery site, unless of course you win and then u have to pay the visa fees.

If it ask for money, looks fishy (ads on the email), is not from a US government email address it is a scam.

Never pay to enter the DV lottery.

I agree with you. There are a lot of DV lottery scams out there that request that you pay money up front. A lot of unsuspecting people have been scammed this way. Make sure it is the official DV lottery site.

Edited to add: I googled USAGC and it looks like it is a privately owned website and has nothing to do with the gov't. Looks like it is a scam.

Jackie, I have 2 of the white ones left. Another lady called and said she had a cat that looks like the little dark gray one. She said she had him for years and he got old and sick and she had to put her baby to sleep. She was excited to find one that looks like her cat. She is coming this afternoon to pick him up.

These are the little kittehs.

Hi everyone,

I have been fostering 4 little kitties for about 3 weeks. They are ready to be adopted out. I get this message from this women that wants one of them so I call her back. An older women answers and said she is her mother in law, and that they had a fire in their house and she would get the daughter in law to call me back. So about an hour later the women calls me back. She had the most gruff country accent. Anyway, she told me that they had a fire and I asked her was it electrical and she said no, that her daughter had set the fire in her closet. I asked her how old she was and she said 8yrs old. Then she goes on to tell me that this is the second time she has set the house on fire. I asked was she playing with matches and the women said no, cigarettes. unsure.gif Then the women goes on to tell me that their cat had run away and that the daughter had cut the cats whiskers off. (no wonder it ran away), so I told her that all had been spoken for. I wasn't about to let them have one of my kittehs. no0pb.gif

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Middle East and North AfricaHow did we all meet our loved one??
QUOTE (tany1157 @ Sep 7 2009, 03:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Was just curious how we all met our foreign loves....I met mine online. Even though this seems common today, I don't love to tell everyone I met someone online...does anyone else have these same feelings? My family has no issues with it, what do you all think? Are we crazy for falling in love with people that are so far away? LOL I would never date someone outside a 50 mile radius of me...but when Ouadia and I met through a dating web site, he was so nice and day after day, we would talk, never missing a day, and one thing led to another, and before I knew it, I was in morocco staying with him and his family for a month. I still can't believe I am having a relationship like this, he isn't perfect, but he is the man I have been looking for, and he feels the same. It is very difficult at times of course, but I know that what is waiting at the end of this journey is worth it! Just wanted to hear other stories, and connect! biggrin.gif

I met my husband on a language exchange website. I was trying to learn French and he volunteered to help me, if I helped him with his English. We chatted with webcam for about 6 months before I went to Algeria to meet him.

I am the same way about telling people I met him online. I do tell people then it opens the floodgate to a lot of other questions and I seem to be telling the same story over and over. Recently I had a case of "tennis elbow" (don't play tennis) and had to do a round of physical therapy. There was a 70 yr old man getting therapy right next to me and he asked me why I wear my hijab. I explained and he asked me where my husband is from and I said Algeria. I thought "here we go". Anyway, he asked how we met and I hated to tell this elderly man I met him online cause I was sure he would have nothing good to say. I went ahead and told him that I met Hachemi online. The next thing out of his mouth was, "Well I met my wife online too." I just about fell out of my chair. laughing.gif He said she was Canadian and he did the fiance visa to bring her here.

Thanks Meriem. I tried making msemmen with all purpose flour and they came out like hockey pucks, I just couldn't get the dough to be the right consistency. I'm going to try this method.

It took making it several times to get it right. I found the best thing is to keep your work surface and dough oiled up with lots of the vegetable oil/butter mixture.
Let me know how it turned out.

Hello All!

Hope this Monday finds each and everyone of you VERY well!

I have a question (to add to my many many blush.gif ):

My husband has his degree in Information Technology Management (basically he is a computer geek.. whistling.gif ).

When he first arrived last November, we thought "No Problem"...apply and he will get something; that was totally NOT the case. One year later he is working in Property Management with me and at a restaurant.

He wants to go back to school, to add an additional IT degree, but we are not sure where to start.

Are there any government programs that will help him with school?

Do we complete the FAFSA, and then if so, what do we use for previous year's income, it was only 1 month's worth?

Any suggestions or advice is GREATLY appreciated...as always!

Yvette

If your husband has his GC then he can qualify for Pell Grant and student loans. When you fill out the FAFSA you will include both your incomes from the previous yr. My husband has a 3 yr technical certificate in computer science in Algeria and is in his second year studying computer networking here in the US. He qualified for full pell grant that has paid for everything including books. Ask the college your husband wants to go to, what evaluation service they require you to use. He will have to get his university transcript evaluated before they will let him attend. We used World Education Services(WES) http://www.wes.org/ because that is what Hachemi's college told us they accepted. If I remember correctly, Pell grant is for undergraduate programs. If his degree evaluates into a bachelors degree he may not can qualify. You wont know until his degree is evaluated. I think he can still get student loans either way.
Good luck.

Hachemi loves cats. His family had a cat in Algeria. He adores our cats that we have now. We really get attached to the kitties we foster, but we cant keep everyone.

This is Bella. She is one of a litter of rescue kitties I am fostering. We have decided to keep Bella. She is the sweetest kitten I have ever seen.

Here is a pic of all the kitties. They love to sleep in this chair.

This is Berry. (my 5 year old granddaughter named him) We adopted him from the last litter of kitties I fostered. He is a great cat.

Berry the box cat. He loves to sleep in any box he can find.

Hi, Welcome to VJ. Good luck with the interview. We did the same as you when I was in Algeria. Middle East and North AfricaIntroduction
I'm Meriem, and my husband Hachemi has been here almost 3 years. We are waiting for his approval on his lifting conditions. I was a trauma nurse in an ER for many years, but now disabled due to back injury. I miss it very much by the way. Hachemi is going to school full time working on another computer science degree. He is studying computer networking this time and has a 4.0 GPA for the last 3 semesters. He also works part time at an Exxon convenience store about 1/2 mile from our house. Everybody thinks he is the owner and when he tells them he is not they dont beleive him. laughing.gif He got that job when he popped in for coffee and they asked him if he was needing a job since they had openings. It doesnt pay much but he looked it as an opportunity to improve his English and meet people. I have lived in this small town since 1988 and he knows way more people than I do. Even knows all of the cops. LOL.
Hachemi has not changed one bit since he stepped of the plane 3 years ago. He is the most kind, loving, romantic man I have ever met and I am so fortunate to have him as my husband.

Middle East and North AfricaEgypt Degree
What I would do before going back to take the test is to have his university transcript evaluated. We used World Education Services (WES). It cost about 160 dollars to do it. Link to WES. It give you the US of equivalent of the courses he took in Egypt. Then you can make a decision if he will need more courses here in the USA. There are other evaluation services out there. WES is the one we used. Whatever service you choose you will have to send a transript release to his university in Egypt, and they will have to translate it and send it straight to WES. After WES receives all the required documents it takes about 1 week to evaluate the transript and send the report to you. We had alot of trouble getting my husband's university in Algeria to send his transript, so the sooner you send the request the better. You can download the transcript request at the WES website.
Good luck!
