Classy - sorry for all that you were going through last night. I certainly believe that you need sometime to yourself (tell him you need the space) to sort this out. As you can see there are differing opinions, but you already know in yourself what's best.

JaEnglish (with the baby who ah steal mi heart...Lawd him sweet yes.gif): Before we got married, Aaron never asked me for anything. When I moved back to JA in 99, things hit my family hard with my dad losing his job and my stepmother being diagnosed with cancer (she died a year before we got married). Aaron used to give me lunch money, pay for my school books, give me gas money for the car. When I moved back to the States, he used to send me money if I was short one month. When God blessed me with a better job, if he needed anything, I would never hesitate to give it to him. When they fell behind on the mortgage on his parent's home, I had a life insurance policy that my dad cashed in for me and I gave them all that money to get caught up. He has done so much for me, that I will never hesitate to do ANYTHING for him. I remember when I wasn't able to pay my tuition one year, he went and got a loan from NCB to pay for my last semester in school. I thank God that I got a man that I can work with and build our lives together. He just wants a job so that he can start supporting his family, he says everyday.

Belly's Girl: I wish you and hubby all the best. I know what you mean about just wanting to be in his physical presence. That's all I needed for the world to feel right. I pray that you will both be together soon. good.gif

Forbes - whenever I would go home, I was in Portmore because that's where my husband lived. I am going to be honest with you, you don't want to stay in Portmore. Jewels is a nice place and it looks good, but the back road where it is located is not a nice place. It is a very dark, lonely stretch of road and I know you want secluded, but it may be too secluded. It is located right by Fort Clarence beach and Jewels is located right by the water. Outside of going to Fort Clarence or Hellshire beach, there is really nothing much to do in Portmore. They even closed the movie theatre the other day. You will find yourself going to Kingston for your entertainment, so you might as well stay there. I know you are trying to save money, but there are some very nice places for you to stay in New Kingston that may not break your pockets too much. Here is some information that you can look at: Discover Jamaica. I was trying to get the Go-Local Portmore page, but it's not loading. They may no longer be hosting it.

Kimmy made an important point. Make sure to tell your friend to get her husband's W2 and/or tax returns for the interview. They may not ask for it, but it's better to be safe than sorry. They asked for mine at the interview, but I told them I didn't have it, but she let us through regardless; her comment was: "We'll make it work".

Hi Claire,

I hope you do read this post. Aaron and I were married for a little less than 4 years when he finally arrived here on the I-130. The proof that I brought along with me to the interview, were pictures that we took over the years (they didn't even look at our album); we only had our wedding pictures and a few pictures from when my sisters visited and when we went to visit my grandparents in Lucea. I can tell you, the album was only half-full with pics. If her husband can go to the interview, it will go a long way with the Consular officers. They asked me how we kept in contact and I told her that we spoke to each other everyday (I had copies from the Western Union card that I used; she didn't look at that).

I think if she brings proof of the joint credit union account and pictures, as well as any information that can show how they keep in contact that should work. I can see no reason that they will deny them, because Aaron and I didn't have any joint accounts together until he moved here.

I've been dreaming of moving to Florida. The only thing making me think twice is my children. They are very close to our family and I think it would be selfish of me to move them away. I've talked to them about it and my daughters all for it though. She wants to live near the ocean so she can be a mermaid laughing.gif She's 5, you gotta love it. And she also thinks we can go to Disney every weekend if we live there.

laughing.gif That is too cute; tell her the ticket prices too high to go visit him every weekend; even as a Florida resident I think the cost of the tickets are too high...Honestly, the weather is beautiful down here and it is definitely a plus that the atmosphere in Miami/Fort Lauderdale has a similar feel to Jamaica in that you have the Jamaican stores, communities, weather...but my dear it is becoming so costly!!! Aaron and I would love to get a house, but on our salaries to buy a $300,000 and paying $6000+ in property taxes and insurance each, is way too much! I would move more north, maybe even closer to Mickey good.gif. My only problem with that is that Disney may not be as special anymore sad.gif.

Just a little annoyed with my childrens father at the moment. Gosh I'm such a drama queen this week! Lol. I have been going back and forth with him for the last year now and I'm just trying to get some strength to cut off alll contact completly. I do good for a little bit but always seem to get back to square one.

Hush classy, it's like baby daddy drama all around...sometimes it is so hard with someone that you have known and loved at some time in the past. Do you get back in contact with him because of the children? it is especially hard for you now especially judging by what you have gone through with your ex. My dear, if he is not a good staple to be in your children's life or if he has chosen not to remain in their lives because you won't allow him in yours, then he is certainly not worth it!!! He's definitly not worth it. After the break up with Mr Green shirt Mr. Baby daddy definitly put his best FAKE foot forward but it didn't last long. I'm just mad at myself for falling for it again. Every time I start to slip down that slope again I'm just gonna come back here and read this! Guess I need to swear of men for a bit and get my ish together.

I've been there, done that with my ex (we don't have any children though); about 6 years ago, I got fed up and cut all communication with him. I sent him an email telling him that there was no way that we could be friends and in order to preserve our SO's feelings, I thought it was best for this to end where it was. I was good friends with his best friend, so I cut off communication with his friend and gradually, I was able to get him out of my life...now he has a sneaky way of getting back in, but for the most part, we haven't seen each other in over 5 years!!! kicking.gif

Just a little annoyed with my childrens father at the moment. Gosh I'm such a drama queen this week! Lol. I have been going back and forth with him for the last year now and I'm just trying to get some strength to cut off alll contact completly. I do good for a little bit but always seem to get back to square one.

Hush classy, it's like baby daddy drama all around...sometimes it is so hard with someone that you have known and loved at some time in the past. Do you get back in contact with him because of the children? it is especially hard for you now especially judging by what you have gone through with your ex. My dear, if he is not a good staple to be in your children's life or if he has chosen not to remain in their lives because you won't allow him in yours, then he is certainly not worth it!!! If not for you, do it for your children because they don't need the rollercoaster.

You know Yardie I can't stand it either! But I've heard them all before. What I realize is that these people who go to JA have no idea what a developing country can look like. They also are usually white sububanites who are afraid to go into more impoverished neighborhoods within their own city. They have no frame of reference as to what "dangerous' really means. Many are very afraid of Black people or other people of color and associate negativity to them and their culture by what they see in media or just from their own uncomfortableness. Now I know that many Jamaicans can be intimidating and theft does happen, but as a huge majority of the times Jamaicans can be some of the most fun loving sincere people you will ever have a chance to meet. There's those rotten few who can smell the fear of a new tourist a mile away.

Another issue is tourists...especially American ones are waaaayyy too stush! Things like drugs and men hitting on them is not common out in your face practice to many so that intimidates them too.

I always say there are 2 types of tourists who leave Jamaica, those who love it, and those who hate it, I don't find an in between person even exists. You should check out tripadvisor.com, that site has forums and people get viscious with discussions on Jamaica....its crazy.

good.gif Maybe I am biased, since it's where I am from. I have seen Jamaica's bad, but the good have always outweighed the bad. As much as I love the opportunities that are afforded to me here in the US, Aaron and I will more than likely live out our twilight years in Jamaica (on the North Coast good.gif)
I love to hear from those who love our countries, but it always seems that when someone has a bad experience, there is such an exaggeration!!

I remember in the 80's when the Min. of Tourism would play ads that told us not to harass the tourists, because "tourism ah go get bad blow" laughing.gif
