Good Morning All,

This is a great thread. I lurk on the Yardie and Stella thread, but haven't posted in almost a year. But, I wanted to get in on this. I am determined to shed at least 40 lbs. by June, when my husband and I are going back to JA to renew our vows (got married June 7, 07 at courthouse, will have ceremony June 7, 08 in Negril on beach with family and friends).

I set my goal in Dec.. At the beginning of every month, I take a picture of myself in a bikini and insert it into a calendar I created in Microsoft publisher, and weigh in every week and document my weight on the calendar. I have a place below my picture to type in how I feel at the beginning of the month. I must admit, I fell victim to the holiday baking, and didn't do so well in December. So, I started fresh for the new year.

I work out at least 6 days a week, for 1 hr. at home. I ordered the Turbo Jam DVD's from an infomercial, and I love it. In addition to the cardio for 40 min., I do at least 20 min of light weights and crunches on my exercise ball. So far, I've only lost 5 lbs. I actually lost more, but gained it back around Christmas and New Years. My big problem is my eating habits. I am a vegetarian, and have been for 26 years, but I eat pasta, rice and bread! So, my challenge is to cut out pasta and bread totally, at least for the next month to see the effect. I drink alot of water (and I squeeze lemon juice in it), at least 48 oz a day.

So, I would like to participate in this thread and encourage and be encouraged. Postive thoughts to all!

Welcome to the thread LovinJA. That is so beautiful, renewing your vows on the beach. I wish you all the best in attaining your goal.

Morning Yardiewife...As you keep your goal in the forefront of your mind, I am sure that you will start putting everything into place. Congrats on losing 1/2 a pound. Yuh ah do better dan mi laughing.gif

My mother didn't want the DNA test done because she already knew the outcome..they look NOTHING alike. The mother told the son the results out of anger and embarrassment. My stepfather didn't want him to know the results yet.

Of course, we still treat him the same..

My stepbrother (that's funny to say since I've been an only child for 35 years blush.gif) is doing better but he ran away for two days when his mother told him. He thought my stepfather and mother wouldn't want him anymore. I believe he had behavioral, mental and emotional problems before the the DNA test. We are working on getting him some professional help.

Oh Lord...poor t'ing sad.gif ... Ur dad is going to have to reassure him that nothing has changed.

I filed for her at the time I filed for him initally but they said she couldn't come because his name wasn't on the BC in the 1st place. He has his name aded a few months ago. Then they wanted us to suppy other proof that he was the father. He couldn't find anything (school records, hosptial records, pictures). I'm wondering if they'll bring it up cause she's already in the system? Well worth the try...cause dis man is sick...all the promises he's made er. He dosen't want to break her heart.

The worse part is it affects our ability to file for her. Hubby's not really worried bout em not being hers....well yes he is....but most important thing is to get her here not sure if that can be done.

Hey Den, got some info for you. My mom and step-dad (now her ex) went through the same thing. He found out that my step-sister was not his biological child, so my mother was able to file for her as her step-parent. Based on her petition she only had to prove that she was married to my step-dad before the child turned 18. It was a few years ago, so I am not sure how subsequent changes may affect this, but you may want to look into it.

What form did they file...If you don't know could you chek....I bet they were not doing DNA test back then? Still I'm not sure I understand how it would work, was his name on the birth certificate?

She filed the I-130...yes, at the time that she was filed for, they did a DNA test and that is how they found out she was not his and they went the route of my mom filing for her. His name was not on her BC, but they were able to get the baptismal certs that had his listed as father.

Do I have to include my husbands income in my taxes for 2007? Or do I just list him as a dependent?

In my conversation with the IRS agent, if I am filing jointly, then we are electing for him to be treated as a resident though he was not a LPR at the time. If he is treated as a resident, then worldwide income is subject to US taxes. Don't worry they won't tax his income, but you can use the taxes that he paid in Jamaica as a credit. Honestly, it is a long convoluted process, so I would just claim him as a dependent. You have to file additional forms if you go the foreign income credit route. So the short answer, no you don't have to use his income.

$1000! Thats what I'm talking about! With owning a house and having a husband I shouldn't have to pay taxes during the work year at all! I should be getting apretty penny back cause these visa fees are gonna start piling up I'm sure.

Kimmy. I think you can file back taxes to claim that extra money on your hubby. Not too sure, but you can go to HR Block or TurboTax.com and get info on this there.

You can Kimmy; it's a 1040X form that you can get through the irs website (www.irs.gov). I am doing that right now and it is working out for >$1000 in a refund for 2006! You can amend your returns up to 3 years after they were originally filed.

Can I list hubby on my return or does he need to have a social security number. How does this work when you are married but your spouse lives out of the country?

Mar, I never put my husband on my taxes I didn't know I could have done that until I got on this site..this year will be the 1st year I file for him as a dependent...

Marlita, try and file for the ITIN...

I am now feeling the pains of having filed my taxes and not adding the hubby to the returns. I wished I knew this before as well. I am now adjusting my 2006 taxes to change my filing status so that he can be awarded financial aid for school. I should have the amended taxes done soon, it's being held up as I am including his income and taxes from Jamaica in the return; yes, it can be done. I spoke to the IRS 2 times already about this and they say it can be done for a joint return. I'll be accounting for his income and taxes in our 2007 tax return.

I'll keep you all posted.

Yay!! kicking.gif FIU?

Yes, Maam...Golden Panther all the way...You?

I'm a Florida Gator!!! Woo Hoo!!!

But when I graduate in August I wanna do my masters at FIU or FAU or Nova or anywhere that will take me lol

I love Gator-ville (Gainesville). My sisters went to UF for awhile, so I used to visit there often. I spent a whole summer there. I was thinking about moving there for my Masters, but I really love my job and the people I work with. They are the reasons I haven't moved out of pricey South Florida, yet.

thanks guys..one more thing to keep us in Jamaica smile.gif...hubby still compares everything here with Jamaica whistling.gif

That will take a while to change. When he goes back home, he is going to compare everything in Jamaica with things here. He is going to cuss the inefficiencies back home and the way we operate. You love home, but still some things get up under yu skin... yes.gif

Does anyone listen Dear Pastor? Last night's topic was too funny

I always plan to listen and forget. I will have to listen in the days to come. What was the topic?

Self-stimulation. I mean those callers were something else. I wonder what tonight's topic will be laughing.gif

What a stress!! I have to try to listen tonight. Marie, are you in JA? If you are, have lots of fun. Yesterday, I was looking at an Air J plane taking off from Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood airport and I wanted Aaron and I to be on that plane so much to go home. We are planning for Christmas in JA next year!
