If you are building a house, be sure to construct the front door to face sunrise and the back door to face sunset, exactly opposite to each other.

And something to that same effect about when burying a dead body....what is that one again? And why?

Kimmy, I think you're right. Also you must not bury the dead with shoes or they will walk at night.

Now, see.....my husband is not really scared of them. He swears we have one in our apartment that he's seen. He's more reverant to them then scared.

My husband also has all these wierd saying for nightmares. If I dream this it means this and if I dream this it means that. I can't remember them all now....well, any of them right now....but I know every time I say, oh, I dreamed about this last night, he has this crazy explanation of what it really means.

Got any of those to share?

If you dream about fish, that means someone is pregnant....and if you dream about a wedding, someone is going to die. Those are a few I have heard.

I remember as a teen, when I was doing things I shouldn't, I never wanted a lizard close to me, because they said if a lizard jumps on you, you were pregnant.

You can bring a Jamaican down to knees at the mention of ghost (duppy) and obeah (voodoo). Let a Jamaican man go in a closet and see his shoes lined up and one pair is Right and Left instead of Left and Right. He will toss the shoes and run cursing about obeah ting dat.

One friend of mine said her husband was so bad with the voodoo thing that she broke a plate while serving dinner. He picked it up tossed it and then proceeded to toss all the remaining food in the trash...talking about grown man won't eat what his foot bottam touched.

I have never heard of that!

I have a question what is the typical turn around time for visa to be sent to the visa holder. I'm still waiting for my husband visa I called the 202# this afternoon and I was told that it wasn't printed yet and to call back next week.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I need that visa this week so I can book his plane ticket.

Mi dear, I don't know if anyone can give you a true turnaround time because things seem to be changing. It took 1 week for hubby to get his after our interview and another VJ (USA-Jamaica) member had the same time frame for visa. But then, we had another member, Milan whose visa took a little while to get through (about 2 weeks or so). These are all CR1/IR1 visas similar to yours.

Hey JA Tam; was waiting for your opinion on this subject since I knew that you were one of the first batch of interviewees since Kingston became an appointment post. Do you by any chance know if a certain quota of interview dates are set aside for each visa type?

I wouldn't put it past them - that I don't really know. I know that they have a set time for conducting interviews; the past system on Thursday there was a 2 hour window - on that I am not sure how many interviews they would schedule then. At the time I was there, I would say there were at least 20 sets of interviews. When we got in, there was already a set of people that were waiting to be interviewed and in our batch there were at least 15 interviewees. I hope that helps somewhat.

Sorry friends, I just saw this thread and I have been a little scarce lately on the board. When our case was originally scheduled by the embassy, nyseness pointed out that usually Kingston Embassy would only interview Immigrant cases on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That freaked me out, since the NVC told me my interview was scheduled for Friday afternoon. My hubby called the Embassy, I called the Dept of State; the Embassy told him the same thing that the interviews are usually Tues./Thurs. and Dept. of State told me that they didn't see my interview date in the system, though they saw that the case was transferred to Kingston Embassy the day after I was given my date. I called NVC in a panic as I thought they might have given me the wrong info, but I was curtly told that they schedule the interview so I should disregard what we were told by the Embassy. As you all now know, Aaron is here, so we had our interview on the Friday we were told (within 2 weeks after I got the date, we got the letter from the NVC and Dept of State could see the interview date in the system). Since my case, I know of at least one other CR1/IR1 case which was scheduled on a Friday. I am not sure if NVC has changed the policy and is now following through with what Kingston had done in the past. I hope not, because just scheduling interviews for 2 days a week could surely explain this backlog - waiting 3 or 4 mths after case complete to have your interview date mad.gif

Hi
I emailed a question to NVC a week ago about the AOS bill fee and haven't received an answer yet. Now they've generated my DS 3032 and the AOS bill and I need to get an answer before I sent them any moola. Should I just forget waiting for an email and phone someone?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)DS-230 question 10 where are you going to live ?

Only trying to help...good luck to you!

I know you guys want to help - that is your motive - but too many people on VJ make a guess at an answer without reading the form in question or having any understanding of the issue..

That means that you are not helping people at all - just the opposite by guessing and giving misinformation

It could seriously harm some people's applications

question 11 clearly deals with the address to send the green card to - and I was not asking about that

- yet both of you said that was the reason for question 10 (which is the one I am asking about), which demonstrates that you had not even looked at the form before giving your answers...

I don't want to discourage you from helping, but the advice should not be a guess...

so thanks for trying to help but ....

And that would be why I suggested you contact the NVC for clarification. It clearly states it on their website to contact them if you had any questions or need help filling out an application: http://travel.state..../info_3194.html.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)DS-230 question 10 where are you going to live ?

Getting my DS -230 part 1 ready and question 10 asks for the address where we are going to live (If known)..

We are both in the UK at the moment so the plan is to rent a 'long stay america' room for a month and then rent an apartment for 3 months and then buy...

The fact that this question says 'if known' implies that it isn't too necessary to have somewhere fixed up..

is it ok to put 'To be arranged'

presumably it would come up at interview time by which time we will have something booked

I would recommend that you contact the NVC to get clarification on this. I think they may frown upon you putting To be arranged, since they want to have an address they can mail the green card, plus they always want an updated address for the resident alien. Is there a family member's address that you can use in the interim until you get settled?

Why would question 10 say 'address if known ' if it was compulsory at this stage ?

Question 11 asks for the address where the green card will be sent and I have given the address of a friend in atlanta......

If anybody else calls me an alien I am going to go for my phaser and it won't be on stun

George Bush - now there is an alien

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC Scheduling Interview @ Embassy

JA Tam,

Have you heard anything about your case? I am going to give the NVC to mid August to provide me with an interview date after which I will be engaging my congressman. My 1st issue is that the NVC impose the new process on my case before it actually went into effect. The additional info was requested on May 22 but the process did not change until Jun 1 and the website was not update until after June to reflect the new process. I understand all the red tape but we do pay a lot of money for these visas and the expectation would be for all government agencies to do their job correctly. I apologizes for venting. Just when it seems like we were so close to be thru this incredibly long maze then our case get delay ...

Jenice

I understand the frustration; it's been quite an ordeal and having these additional unknowns have complicated the process even more so. Since hearing that the case has been complete, I haven't heard anything more. I figured I would hold tight until mid-August to see if they interview has been scheduled. If they don't schedule it in August, I am all for contacting my congressman and senator. You make a very valid point in reference to the new guidelines and in a country that should be on top of changes in technology, I would expect that they would update their website as soon as the changes were made. Also, if the changes came into effect in June, you should not have been subjected to it as well. The only thing is, we do not know if this change may end up being an improvement over the old way. Also, if you had not been subjected to the change, you may have ended up with a similar situation as Empress. We never know.
My other concern outside of the interview scheduling is the time it is taking for them to deliver the passports with the visa stamp. Looking at some of the timelines, it is taking much longer than the 4 - 6 business days after the interview as indicated on the website. But, I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Remember they say it is always darkest before the dawn. We are almost at the end of the journey, so don't let it get you down. We have a few weeks before we hear anything more. If I hear anything before that, I'll let you know.

it seems that I missed something  ...first time i hear that NVC shedules the interview date..i thought that after case is complete and send to embassy they will tell the date of interview...or maybe it depends on country? hmmm..

Originally, the NVC would send the Jamaican I-130 cases to the Kingston embassy, where they would schedule the interview. Just last month, they changed the policy and many of the documents that we would collect to take with us to the interview, they requested it be sent to them, so they could complete the case.
It may be specific countries that they have started this process with, so maybe for Poland they are not doing this.

Although it's not required the Kingston Embassy STRONGLY recommends the petitioner to attend the interview. It's the BEST proof anyone can possibly provide. Nobody informed me if we were in AR review or not but I still don't think it should be taking this long. I have my senator and congressman inquiring and they said they would contact me this week with what ever information they attained. Also I just sent them an email saying I know NVC has begun assigning dates for interviews and have clearly skipped over couples that have been waiting since January (a lie as far as I know, but possible). I requested an appointment to discuss the matter. Wish me luck. Hopefully I'll get some good news this week.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope your senator and congressman is able to get the ball rolling for you. It's so hard to be in limbo like this, especially when you know you are so close!! Hopefully, if you raise enough hell, someone will start digging around and put your file on high priority so that you can be interviewed ASAP.

Guys.. :help: Is there anyone pursuing a IR1/CR1 and the NVC has scheduled your interview in the last couple of weeks; :help: can you please tell me how long it took from when the case was completed at the NVC before you got your interview date. Did you have to wait to get the letter before you knew the date? Was the automatic voice system ever updated with this status?

Congrats Tamieka on your case being completed!! Was the automatic system update today? Did it say the same spill that I got? I spoke with a rep yesterday afternoon and he stated appointments were still being scheduled for August. This would be completed on Monday and I could call back on Tuesday to see if I was in th the batch that got scheduled. My payers are for you to also get scheduled since your case was completed before the cut off time. Honestly how many applicants could actually be at this point for scheduling in Kingston.

It would be so nice if some one from VJ is in Kingston at the same time as my interview. David's job has him so busy so I have decide to only spend a couple of nights Jamaica if the interview is before August 27, 2007. I had planned on staying 7-10 days so we can visit his family that live closer to the Mobay area. My hubby office is in Kingston but he lives in Portmore area. I will probably stay at the Hilton. We stayed there for our honeymoon and my girlfriend and I stay there during my 1st visit to Kingston. It is not far from the Embassy and I entertain myself if David have to work really long hours.

Jenice

Yes it did say the same thing. I hope to be in the August batch...it would be pretty cool to have another VJ'er in the batch. I hope there is good news next week. My husband works in downtown Kingston and lives in Portmore as well. Sorry to know that the job has David so busy. I am sure Aaron will be able to take some time as I had planned to go home during Independence week. But, I will put off my vacation until we get the interview date so that I can take a few days then. When he finally gets here I'll take vacation then to help him get settled in.
I am thinking of staying at Christar Villas at least the night before the interview, because if I am not mistaken, the Embassy is now near Liguanea, near to Campion (my alma mater).
I hope you get good news next week because you have been waiting so much longer. :star:

Thank you for the info, Jenice. I have been calling the automated voice system everyday, just to see if there is any additional information on the case. Hopefully, I will hear something soon.
I appreciate it and let us know what happened with your call to the NVC.

Tamieka

NVC updates their system every Monday, so you won't hear any changes until Tuesday on the IVR system unless you speak to an operator.

We can only hope that things will go that fast. Unfortunately, "red tape" will slow processes down  . I am not sure how long it takes for the response on the medical, which I can see as the only reason that the interview scheduling maybe more than 1 month in advance. Can't wait to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I hope you will hear something soon!

The medical takes 2 wks (14 days) to arrive at the Embassy. Once you recv you interview date from NVC you can then schedule the medical, however, you will need the interview packet to actual attend the medical.

Thank you for the info, Jenice. I have been calling the automated voice system everyday, just to see if there is any additional information on the case. Hopefully, I will hear something soon.
I appreciate it and let us know what happened with your call to the NVC.
