US Citizenship General DiscussionWHERE do you file/send the N-400 Naturalization App?

This maybe a dumb question but when I review the instructions for the N-400 (Naturalization) it doesn't definitively state where to send you application. WHERE do file/send your N-400?

It clearly states where to file if you're filing under the military provisions (Nebraska Service Center). I'm assuming I would file at the same Service Center I filed my wife's I-751 (Vermont Service Center).

I live Northern Virginia (Greater Washington DC Metropolitan area) and filed her I-751 (Removal of Conditions) with the Vermont Service Center.

My wife will be eligible to file the N-400 in Jan 2008 (3 year anniversary from "Resident Since" on her green card) and I'm trying to prepare well ahead. Your feedback is appreciated.

Here is the information from the form page: Where to File :
"Send your N-400 application and supporting documents to the Service Center having jurisdiction over your place of residence."

You can view this at: http://www.uscis.gov/n-400

I saw someone here mentioned off and on about the possibility of applying for citizenship after his/her 3 years anniversary. Can someone direct me to the gov site where it is stating the rule for this please. Greatly appreciated.

Have a good day all.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCertificate of Naturalization/Citizenship

:help: Hey guys!

My fiance' is a US citizen after birth. He was born outside the United States and he is a U.S. citizen through his parents, but he lost his certificate of citizenship years ago. HE can't file the I-129F because according to USCIS he should wait for his New Naturalization Certificate (which he requested 7mos ago!)

Question is... is his passport not valid as proof of his citizenship? can he already file the I-129F even without the certificate, just a passport? Our I-129F is on hold because of this. We are still waiting for his certificate replacement. USCIS site states that N-400 takes 6-9mos of processing. but thats for those who are applying for naturalization. my fiance is just asking for a COPY bec he lost the original. does anyone know why the copy is taking this long?

:crying:

On the USCIS website, you can find the instructions for completing the I-129F: http://www.uscis.gov...I-129Finstr.pdf.
D. In place of any of the above, you may give USCIS a copy of your valid, unexpired U.S. passport issued with a validity period of at least five years. You must submit copies of all pages in the passport.
Good luck to you both

US Citizenship General DiscussionHow long is one without U.S. passport or green card
At the swearing in ceremony, the package that you receive will have the application for a US passport. In the case of a naturalized citizen when applying for a passport for the first time, you will need to apply in person.
Alan, I am going to scare you just a little bit, because this happened to me...I had to send my ORIGINAL naturalization certificate with the application so that I could be issued my passport. It is returned to you with the passport. I applied at the courthouse in Hollywood Florida. I believe if you go to a Passport office, then you can show them your certificate and not "surrender" it.

Since they have worked out the backlog, it shouldn't take too long to get your passport after being naturalized.

Best of luck to you.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 interview
Wow...poor thing. I thought he was running into a problem a friend of mine had. He went for his interview and they told him that he would hear back from them when they scheduled his interview. Put it this way, he filed in September of 2004 and I was sworn in April 2006 and he heard nothing from them. All he kept hearing was they were still waiting on his background check. He has refiled the application so I hope he gets through this time.

Claire - so sorry to hear about your co-worker.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 RFE Question
No, I have no idea how long it will take to get the letter. Looking at a few other timelines, it could take between 1 - 2 weeks. I guess it depends on how quickly the FBI checks are completed. I hope all goes well and he gets his interview in November and sworn in before the year is out!

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 RFE Question

hey JA, how did your fingerprints go today???

It went well. We were in and out within 30 minutes. He had to fill out another form when we got there and got a booklet with all the civics questions, which was also included on an audio CD at the back of the book. So he can listen to it over and over in the car or at home. Thanks for asking. When's your appointment? Good luck when you go!

It's having the GC for 3 years; you can file 90 days before the 3 year mark.

US Citizenship General Discussionconfused about letter got from interview today
Totally understand. After hearing all the news that people on your board got their interview dates, getting any form of deviation is nerve wracking. I remember reading some time ago about people who didn't get approved right away, but got the response in the mail. Don't worry too much about it. When I first applied for citizenship, I got an outright denial, because I couldn't prove that I wasn't out of the country too much. I re-applied in a few years and got through witout an issue.

US Citizenship General Discussionconfused about letter got from interview today
Darlene, hit report on that post and hopefully you should have the opportunity to explain your reason for reporting the post. I think they will remove it then.

I think at this point, you can wait a few days then call the USCIS 800 number to see if you can get an explanation, or wait until you get a letter from them to see what the issue is. They may just send the Oath letter. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and praying that all goes well.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship question - Please advise.
There's no problem for you to take a trip while you wait for the interview. You would just let them know at the interview of any trips you have taken since the application was filed. In any case, you may get your citizenship before the March trip judging by how quickly most are getting through with their applications.

US Citizenship General Discussiondo they keep the passport at the interview? can you travel after interview?
I had to share, when I got my citizenship, on my oath date I had a flight to Jamaica. This was before the passport rules, I traveled to Kingston on my naturalization certificate in 2005. Of course, this won't work today.
He can definitely travel on his passport and greencard until he has his oath. Congrats on getting the interview date!

From what I am seeing, the cost of the N400 will remain the same starting Nov. 23rd, but the biometrics cost is going up by $5. I believe though that there will be no cost for military personnel.
