This site is used for many different reasons esp in the Yardie thread. We are not here to discourage anyone so please don't take it that way. Basically the Yardie thread was created an outlet for JA/US couples to vent, share experiences, and obtain countless info regarding the immigration process.

Ditto. I certainly empathised with a lot of the experiences that were shared by fellow VJ members, but I have never taken any of this out on Aaron. A lot of the "negative" experiences that are shared on VJ should serve as a word of caution for those who are going through the process. I have received more encouragement on here than any negative vibes. I am sorry that you may have experienced that, but it is certainly not what we are about no0pb.gif luv.gif rose.gif

offtopic45vn.gif I had to share. This was in this Sunday's Lifestyle section of the Jamaica Observer:

GIGOLO
Daddy Oh
Tony Robinson
Sunday, November 18, 2007

In faith, he is a worthy gentleman,
Exceedingly well read...
Valiant as a lion,
And wondrous affable.
Shakespeare, 1 Henry 1V

If I didn't know better I would swear that he was talking about me in the above quote. After all, I do fit the profile, even though Tatler and others never mention me in their social pages in that light. Well, on second thought, I guess I should be grateful, for next thing you know, they might link me to some romance scandal or the other.

Still, those attributes are what's needed to be a gigolo, and secretly I always wanted to be a gigolo. The dictionary defines gigolo as 'a man employed to be a woman's escort or dancing partner; a man who is financially supported by a woman not his wife.' That's the official version, and I'm sure they're sticking to it, but you and I know that there's more to being a gigolo than meets the eye, as the main function is not only to escort lonely women, but to offer sexual favours as well.

It really is a service industry and unlike women who fulfil the same function, gigolos are not looked down upon, frowned upon, or seen in a bad light. Women who do the same thing are called harlots, prostitutes, hos, tramps, trollops and other vile names. Yet, men who do the same thing are admired and even have books, poems, songs, plays and movies written about them. So many men who are players or wannabe players refer to themselves as gigolos, and with pride too.

"Honey, I can't be tied down to any one woman as I'm just a gigolo." There was this famous song by Louis Prima, 'I'm just a Gigolo,' plus countless movies such as American Gigolo starring Richard Gere and others that glorified the profession. I think that it was after I saw American Gigolo that I secretly harboured thoughts about becoming one. All those beautiful women at my beck and call, and to top it off, they would be paying me for services rendered and to fulfil their dreams.

But my desire to become a gigolo was cut short when I discovered that not only beautiful women as portrayed in the movies needed that service, but mostly middle-aged, portly, withered, ageing dowagers who required stud service. And come to think of it, that's perfectly logical, for beautiful women would have no need to pay for an escort service. Immediately I realised that I wasn't qualified for that profession, for unfortunately, I can only make love to beautiful women.

So clearly, those guys have an innate gift, to be able to squire and rise to the occasion for any type of woman that comes their way. I am far too selective and picky for that, and although well equipped to handle the job, I am certainly not equipped mentally for that job, if you know what I mean. But gigolos exist, and indeed aplenty. Perhaps the most famous throughout history were Casanova and Don Juan, but there are countless other unsung heroes, fulfilling their role in society, and you'd be surprised who utilise their services.

This practice has been going on for a long time, with perhaps only countries in Europe like Italy, Spain and France giving prominence to the profession. I just saw this movie starring Charlotte Rampling, where these ageing ladies would take their annual vacations in Haiti, way back in the 1960, and sought the services of these young, virile beach boys. They had a ball and really had a good thing going until one silly romantic lady made the mistake of falling in love with one of the gigolos.

That just mash up everything as she got jealous, caused worries, which led to murder and police business. That is the first and foremost and most important rule, never ever fall in love, not with the gigolo, and neither should the gigolo fall in love either. It's a business and should be treated as such.

Here in Jamaica we have them too, and apart from the much heralded rent-a-dreads who patrol our North Coast resort areas, there are many discreet Bald Heads or even Weaves, who earn a decent living, if not indecently. I recently read that a large percentage of tourists worldwide actually seek out different sexual partners while on vacation, and cite that activity as one main reason for visiting certain countries.

So like it or not, play hypocrite all you want, people do visit for sun, sea, sand and sex. Why do you think people flock to countries like Brazil and such? Certainly not for the museums or lecture circuit. There was a time when women actually looked forward to having their rumps pinched by those gigolos in Italy, but I suppose sexual harassment laws have put a damper on that activity.

Gigolos do fill a need, and for that reason, many young men are taking it up as a full-time profession. Many a young man now boasts of having his uptown sugar mama who caters to his every need, buys him all the clothes and stuff that he wants and gives him spending money. I know of some guys who have no permanent fixed place of abode, but live with and live off any current girlfriend whom they happen to be squiring at the time.

They also drive their cars, prompting people to wonder, "But how come Norman driving so much different car and change address so often and him not working?" That's because he's a gigolo and life is just for living.

The movies portray these guys as being debonair, swashbuckling, handsome and suave, who can charm the habit off a nun. But in reality, many are sleazy con artists who have a knack of beguiling gullible women who are in need of companionship and affection, and yes, sex. Many women would swear on a stack of Bibles that they would never succumb to this, but as one told me recently, "When you touch the wrong side of 60 and have no one to talk to, much less go dancing with or to dinner occasionally, life can be lonely." So enter the gigolo. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

The qualifications of a gigolo are rigid, and even though it may not seem like it, a certain amount of discipline is required. A gigolo has to be all things to all women, he has to be a tour guide, showing and explaining the qualities and beauty of the country. He has to be a protector, plus he has to be able to talk, for women do love to chat.

Basic social skills are a must, for remember, they also act as escorts, and women love to be wined and dined. They have to be well endowed and be sexual athletes, for the bottom line is a happy ending after a day or night out on the town. What's the point of being a gigolo if you can't rise to the occasion and perform like a stud on demand? And they do demand too.

Gigolos are not only paid in hard cash, but many are paid in kind, as they are allowed to live in posh homes, drive nice cars and enjoy the luxury of laps, even as they live in the lap of luxury. It's a good life if you can swing it, but don't get sick and don't get old, for there is no pension plan for the gigolo, and just like older men, older women love young younger things. More time.

Good Afternoon All,

Well, I was very happy this morning knowing that the NVC received my case.

However, I called and talked to an operator and she gave me some dishearting news......

She said that once the NVC receives it, it takes between 10-15 days to match the mail to the case.

Once it is matched to the case, then it takes 2-4 weeks to review and if everything is complete and nothing is missing, then the interview will be scheduled.

She said we may not even be able to get a January interview date. They will be scheduling January interview dates the 2nd week of December and she doubts if we will make that cut off either.

Boy this really makes me wanna crying.gif !!!!

Peace & Love,
Tonya

Hi Tonya,

I know it seems never-ending, but this too will pass. The DS-230 part of the process was the longest part for us, but once the case was complete, as you can see in our timeline we got our interview date within a month. You will probably get a February interview date, but it will be here before you know it good.gif .

Tam, I didn't realize that you guys had been married for sooooo long rose.gif Did you wait a while to file after you married? I'm just curious why it took so long for him to get the Visa? huh.gif

We did wait a while. Mostly because when we got married I wasn't working, so I didn't have the money to file for him. After we got married, it was a year before we were able to see each other, because the money just wasn't there to buy the ticket. Then because I had issues getting my citizenship, my mom hooked me up with an immigration lawyer and I wanted to file for Aaron at the same time that I filed for my citizenship. He told me to wait until that came through and file for Aaron then. I wished I did it the way that I originally wanted to, but figured he knew better than I did...BIG MISTAKE! If I could do it all over again (that is filing earlier, I wish to stay away from Immigration as much as I can blink.gif , but alas, I am filing for my dad now). Thanks for asking Rhonda blush.gif

ok guys.
I know this will sound way more negative than I mean it but..do you ever feel like you just cant do it anymore? The being apart, relying on crappy phones, stretching EVERY SINGLE penny all for what seems like nothing? Not nothing as in the relationship is nothing, but as in no advances? It is as though I think everyday will get easier..but it doesnt it never does. It gets harder and harder and sometimes is VERY frustrating.
Perhaps it is just my situation but I know if it wasn't for the Lord taking care of me and the faith I am still clinging to then I WOULD BE GOING CRAZY right now!
It just seems as though communication is getting even harder to have. Marsh lost a phone. Then the phone messed up. Now the service sucks and I know he isnt cheating on my or doing this on purpose or anything like that but its just at that point where I just cant BE LIKE this.
These are minor minor things compared to what we will go through and what many of you have gone thru..but it doesn't seem minor to me right now.
ARGH.
So.. any miracle cures out there for the "im-about-to-go-nuts-because-my-husband-is-still-in-jamaica-and-it-sucks" illness?

Shrewdgal, I know I am late coming in, but wanted to put my 2 cents in. No lie, this is a hard process to go through. I had so many frustrating nights being away from him, and the most FRUSTRATING of nights were when the phone card wouldn't work right. My girl, it use to stress the hell out of me. I remember right before we finally got our interview date, I called Aaron, my sister, my best friend and Jenice and just asking why does it have to be so hard. I remember telling Jenice that I know that the time when I feel at my breaking point and I can't go any more, that is when the breakthrough comes. So said, so done...I spoke to Jenice the Tuesday and by the Thursday we had our interview date (Jenice and I). I looked at this time apart as God preparing Aaron and I to be better spouses for each other.
I will be praying for your strength through this time and know that these times you will not remember when he is in bed beside you; when he is having dinner with you at nights, going out to the movies and dates. Right now, I am just praising God because there were many nights when all I could do was cry myself to sleep because I missed him so. We are all pulling for you to get to that point of resolution soon...you and Gill heart.gif .

Gill - Please let Nicky know that I am pulling for her and I am praying for the best for her.

Hi All,

It has been two weeks since David arrived. Things are going really well for the most part. David got his SSC on Thursday and my baby went and got his GA driver's license on yesterday kicking.gif kicking.gif . I am so happy for him. He has a few leads on jobs so he will start applying for them next week.

I think he is adjusting to his new life in the USA. He is not calling JA much at all. A couple of his immediate family members do have the mega phone and call pretty frequently. We are truly blessed that David does have several very close friends that live in the Atlanta area as well as thru out the US.

Adjusting to living together....well he was here 3 month last fall so we just felt back into the groove we develop then.

All in all I am truly enjoying my husband finally being here permanently. Yes we have the normal couple arguments but we are just learning and exploring each others. Hopefully David will get his green card in the couple of week so we will be set for then next two years

Congrats Jenice. I am so happy for you and David. kicking.gif kicking.gif
