When I sent papers through Fedex my fiance got them pretty quick. They even delivered right to his door. I was impressed. It was about $40 US to send for 3 day delivery.

Ditto - FedEx has worked well for us.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAugust Filers

Hey Tam;

You know what I am mostly interested in? The new process that CR1/IR1 have to go through with the NVC scheduling appointments for Kingston's interviews. I see another topic started for August filers but not specific to Yardies who are going through NVC appointment scheduling. I hope that clarifies my reason for starting this new topic. What do you think?

Much Luv

Your VJ sis Claire

Hey Claire,

I think it's definitely worth it. I think Jenice (USA-Jamaica) and I are in the first batch of yardies going through this new process. For those who have just filed, I think it's a great thread to follow the new process  . As soon as Jenice and I hear anything about our interviews, we'll be sure to post it.

I SENTED MY PAPER AT THE END OF JULY AND HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING JUST WAITING

I hope you hear something soon. I mailed the application for my dad's case early July and got the receipt on July 21 (I remember the date because it was my birthday  ). You should get the receipt soon.

Hey Yardies;

I know this must have been addressed somewhere, but are there any Yardies who have filed since the new fees were implemented? I realize it is a bit early but am very curious about the experience. Maybe I am jumping the gun a little??????????

Claire

Hey Claire,

I know Marlita is getting married this weekend and she will be filing for her SO ASAP, so you may want to check with her. I think she will be in JA for 1 month, but plans to send the paperwork with her dad when he returns to the States, so she should be filing in August. You may want to check with her when she gets back.
Take care.

Claire, dear...don't get frustrated. I so want to help you with this question, but I am not as experienced with this as others, so hopefully someone else will jump in with some help. I was just speaking with my mom about this and she told me that if you should get married, it will "kill" his father's petition and you will have to start the process all over again. The petition is affected because by getting married he is now technically in a different category than he was originally petitioned for.
It looks like the NVC is moving on the petition since they have sent the AOS bill. With the new process, I am not sure how long it will take for him to get an interview, but I am sure it will be within months. If you can, hold off on the wedding, sweetie.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaPersonal Question...

How long did you know your boyfriend/girlfriend before you became engaged? How long was your engagement? My fiance propossed to me in February of this year after dating for a long time. How many visits did you take to Jamaica in between times? I try to visit every 2-3 months, but this has been the longest we've gone :crying: ...it will be a little over 5 months when I get there in September.

When Aaron and I were first engaged, we had known each other for 6 months. I try to go back as often as I can, last year I went back about 4-5 times, this year I have only been back twice because I knew we should have our interview this year and I would need the money for our plane tickets.
Good luck to you and your honey

My boyfriend and his family made it through okay. Damage to the house roof, (Kitchen area) and a tree fell into a part of the house, but no water damage inside and everyone safe. As of last night, still no electric. (He lives in Ocho Rios) Don't know about H2O. Just wishing I was there with him... unsure.gif

I understand what you mean. Wish I was there with the family as well. As far as I am concerned, as long as they are okay and have their limbs and faculties about them, everything is minimal. I hope all else is good.
Got a text message from my hubby this morning - he got back electricity last night, but they are still without water. I am sure that will soon follow.

I met my husband on my 3rd trip to Jamaica. I had a BF at the time. A few trips later, this Jamaican guyI was seeing turns out he was a violent stalker. Andre saved me from a frightening situation by helping me escape a locked room, pack my things, and move to another room while my BF went to his mother's birthday party. Andre stayed up all night talking to me and had another room set up for himself next door to mine. We started dating a few trips (and months) later and the rest is history.

Yah, I suppose so. And he was extremely patient when I still wouldn't/couldn't completely dump stalker boy. He said he would be there as my friend no matter what I decided in the future. It was 2 months later before I dumped stalker completely and Andre and I started dating. I knew from the very beginning that he cared for me as a person and no other reason. For that, I loved him completely.

And, to this day, stalker still calls, IM's or texts me from time to time.

I'll be praying for you.

My first trip ever to JA was in March 05. I went there on a mission trip to Morant Bay. I went to Spring Garden church and met a young girl (my sister in law) there. Then I went back on another mission trip in Feb. 06 and the young girl I met the previous year, brought her sister there to meet me. The next day me and her sister hung out until I left 2 days later. We talked just about every other day. Then I went again on another mission trip in Mar. 07. The third day i was there, i asked marla to marry me and she said yes and we got married the day before i had to leave. leaving was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I have been back since our marriage and i plan on returning next month.

We fell in love fast but i know it all was from God.

That's so sweet. Good luck to you both and I pray you will be together soon.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHow did u meet your SO?

You all are such fabulous people. Thanks for sharing your wonderful stories.. Isn't it strange and surprising how we meet the one we love and want to spend the rest of our lives with in the most unusual way? It just makes one wonder. I was married for 13 years and after my divorce, was single until I had a on again off again relationship with this married guy for three years, who told me everyday that he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He promised me everyday that he was getting divorced. When I got really tired of him and it, I finally moved away from NY to NC and he followed me here. He left after 3 months with the excuse that he couldn't find a job after her was not even looking digilently. He went back to his wife and has regretted it everyday. He also kept promising that he was coming back "home" After about a year I just gave up. It was during this time, when I told myself that I am done with men that my brother's ex-wife broke up with her husband and started dating his guy in JA. He had a picture of Mike and she saw it and took it home to FL with her. We were talking on the phone one day and she just happen to mention her relationship with this guy in JA and said to me. "I have a number for you." I laughed and took the numer anyway. She kept at me till I made the first call and that was a wrap. I ask him everyday, "Where have you been all my life?" His reply is that only GOD knows our destiny and he was preparing us for this new journey that he and I are starting. Our meeting, he says, was ordained by GOD! After Mike and I started dating, my sis broke up with his friend and is now back with her husband. Strange isn't it? My life is now so intertwined with Mike, I feel that I have known him forever. We are just so happy together. We are getting to know each other better everyday, and hope that one day we will be together forever.

Love you all!

Claire

Thanks for sharing your story, Claire. I wish you all the best in your relationship with Michael and on your own visa journey.
God bless you.

I first saw my husband 12 years ago at Kingston Open Bible Church. I thought he was just so handsome in his suit. So for most of the church service I stared in the direction he was sitting, not hearing a thing that was preached  . My best friend's boyfriend at the time (who is now her hubby), asked me if I wanted to meet him, which I did. At first Aaron didn't want to meet me, but after sometime told Rohan to bring me over. The next weekend, we went to the movies and decided to hook up after that. He asked me to marry him 4 months after we met, to which I answered yes, but then I moved to the US and wanted to really enjoy college life :innocent: , so we broke up. We got back together in 1999 and have been together ever since, despite my father's objections; we reinstated our engagement a few months after getting back together and got married in 2003. :D
P.S. My father gets along with him now

I have a friend who resides in Jamaica, she is the beneficiary, and her interview at the Kingston Embassy is Sept 21st of this mth. She wants to know what are all the necessary documents she needs to bring to the Medical Examination and also what size photos does she need to bring. Is it the passport size or Visa size? I'm in the same process of petition for my husband but I haven't reached this far, as my time line shows, so I do not know. Could anyone pls give me some advice on this matter as her appt is near.

Thanks is advance.

Small world, that's the date of my husband's interview laughing.gif . It is the passport size photos; from what I see on the form she needs 4 for the medical and at least 1 more for the interview. My husband took 12 to be on the safe side laughing.gif . Good luck to her on the interview.

i don't know who will win but i doubt either will make a difference, the only reason i lean towards portia is to see how ja fares with a female in head office. i would also like to add that it is common for people to berate the government on their shortcomings which is rightly deserved but keep in mind that jamaica is not an easy country to run, in many cases you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. people are never pleased and that also impedes progess.[/quote]
I do agree that Jamaica is not an easy country to run. I think that despite any hardship that the people would have to face in the initial stages, if people see real, tangible progress, they would bear it. That is what the problem is, though there seems to be improvement in infrastructure, the standard of living has gotten worse and that is what many of us are looking at. Why are young people coming out of college, not able to find a job? Though it seems to be the case here in the US that college grads are not finding jobs in their field, at least they have jobs. Some of our young people in Jamaica are still struggling to find one.

I would love to see Jamaica go in a different direction, so my money is on Golding. If I knew how to register to vote here in the States, he would have my vote. good.gif . Unfortunately, I think there is a good possibilty for Portia to win. As devastating as the hurricane was to the southern end of the island, it will do wonders for her campaign as she is out there giving out relief checks to those who were hit hard.

I think for a real difference to be made in Jamaica, the 2 parties would have to work together with the country in mind and not looking for their pockets to get fat ranting33va.gif

I think you are making a big deal out of it. He could be doing a whole lot of other things besides hanging with the boys. I don't agree that he should be required to drop everything to talk IF you are talking several times a day anyway. Now, if he is always busy with the boys when you call, and rushes off the phone then that's a different matter because you are really not talking...just speaking and hearing each other's voices for a couple of seconds.

You should tell him that you woud like him to step away to speak to you...and then resume his boys time when you get off the phone.

My sweetie will play dominoes and sometimes puts me on speaker phone because I like hearing the rude boy banter...and it makes me feel that I am home for just a little while. He lets me hear him walking through town because I can hear the car horns, the tree frogs and the handcart whistles. I love the commotion in downtown Ochi. He will stand just outside of a party so I can hear the music...it's almost like I'm right there with him. Those are our little date nights. LOL.
