Wow...well I see this post is ever growing and still going strong. Almost 600 pages and this must be like the 4th installment.
I never thought it would have grown so much over the last two years when I started it. I'm glad that it has become a place for all yankee/yardie couples to meet, chat, share advice and support one another. I know I've been really bad about coming in to visit but life has totally gotten in the way. There was a time that I was so engulfed by the immigration process that I guess once it was over it was nice to take a break. But don't think for a second that you all are not in my thoughts and prayers. I have a bit of news to share, Squito and I are expecting our first child in April. I guess another one bit the dust huh, lol. I remember when Rhonda had me at the top of the baby list. We should've put some money on it because look at how many others got knocked before I did, lol. Anyway, just stopping by to check in and say hello. Hope everyone is doing well.

xo,

Mooma Squitto

Congratulations on your prospective bundle of joy kicking.gif . Thanks for having the insight to start this thread, it has certainly made this process so much easier for the rest of us to make it through. I would say, I have met some wonderful people on this site, who have helped to keep my spirits lifted up during the lows of immigration yes.gif

WHEW!!!!!

Just finished catching up on AAALLLLLL the posts that I missed while I was away. You ladies are a great bunch. yes.gif yes.gif laughing.gif You all have me cracking up when you are all fighting over Beenie Man and the likes. LOL. As I stated earlier I met him at the airport and he was nice enough to give me an autograph for my daughter and allowed me to take a picture with him. I wanted a still picture but die to my inexperience with celebs my camera was on video. He was scruffy-looking but alright. I only did this because I knew my daughter adores him and when I texted her to tell her she was ga-ga over it. I feel like Jomo's girl--do anything for your children.

Anyway about how I met my SO. I was introduced on a whim to him by my brother's ex-wife after not being in a serious committed relationship for quite some time. innocent.gif innocent.gif I had recently moved from NYC to NC and was just chilling. She was seeing a friend of Mike's and just hooked us up. We started by talking on the phone and I was so impressed with the conversation and the person I talked to, that I had to meet him in person. He is well educated and intelligent and is an old soldier and old cop. Very disciplined guy. We are both the same age, (43) he is two months older than I am and we have the same goals and aspirations.

I decided to go meet him after not being back to JA after 15 years and it was love at first sight, even though the initial connection was made on the phone. After gettihng back to the States, I wanted him to be with me so much that I decided that I was gonna do the fiance visa and during my internet research I found this wonderful site and a bunch of great friends that have provided my with a wealth of information.

During my research and conversations with Mike, I found out that his dad had filed the I-130 for him back in 2000. Thus my research tokk another road and his priority date became current in July and the paper trail started. Was I not lucky? Anyway I will always be here with you ladies enjoyning the banter and getting my daily laugh on. jest.gif jest.gif

Mike was a little reluctant to migrate and wanted to slow things down, but after this visit and we actually got to spend a lot of time getting to know each other more and actually living together and doing things together and for each other, he has changed his mind and has become very enthused about coming her to be with me. dancin5hr.gif dancin5hr.gif Before I went down I told of the process and the documents that were required and he was like yeah, yeah. Now he has started gathering documents and he has even gone to the health department of get his immunization record.

I am very happy and am looking forward to a great and wonderful future with him good.gif good.gif good.gif

Claire, I can't wait to get the good news that Mike is on his way good.gif heart.gif

It has been such a long time since I've logged in and posted here, I don't know many of you anymore.

I wanted to post and let people know that we are also "removing conditions". Actually we can officially mail our papers in Monday (90days before the expiration) and so my weekend involves nothing but the I-751. I am not worried about the actual form and evidence. I'm only worried because we moved states in February and that also meant moving service centers. We changed our address but I'm just not convinced they got it right. They sent me confirmation as the sponsor, but nothing to Henry. I called and of course they wouldn't tell me anything other than make an infopass appt. (which is in Charlotte, 2 hours away). So, needless to say, we're mailing our documents to the TSC (unfortunately) and praying that our little file isn't still sitting in VT or Boston.

I will try to be around more if anyone has questions and I'll keep my signature updated.

Rhonda, let me know how yours goes...

Have a wonderful weekend.

Welcome back and I wish you the best with the next step of the journey. I hope your information is transferred successfully to your new location. Looking forward to hearing more about this part of the journey good.gif

well and after that he said u go outside so i did i went out side and he start talking to my wife. he just wanna make sure that everything doing ok. he asked her if she sure that she wanna give me the green card, and my wife said sure i am sure he's my husband, and he said yeah but we hear everday so many people using each other for this thing i mean to get the green card and to run lol. it's Funny.

and she said yes i know and i love my husband. he said ok no problem i just want to warn you. and he said seem everything in order here just get what i ask u to get

It may seem a little presumptuous of him, but considering the info that they are privy to, they are truly just looking out for the USC's best interest. Have any of the VJ vets heard from Texas Bound? How is she doing? I went back and read some of her story and it just broke my heart crying.gif

How I see it, there is not way you can ensure your man/woman doesn't get caught up with the wrong people. You can voice your opinion and let him/her know how you feel but it's up to them to decide if they are going to re-evaluate the acquaintance or just ignore you and keep on.

I tell it straight, whether he likes it or not. And if your spouse chooses not to listen then they will feel the brunt of that action one way or another.

I honestly do not have this problem. But, I think it is an important issue to discuss on here. I hear a lot of stories that involve the SO having negative outside influences that effect the home life.

Anyone else?

Hubby has only been here a few days, but I know that he is very conscientious of who he associates with. He is a very good judge of character and IMO I would be the one to end up in the wrong crowd, not him. In JA he kept his friends few and the ones that he had were of quality. He is not easily influenced and none of them ever tried to lead him down the wrong path. His best friends are Christians and I don't see him getting caught up with the wrong crowd.

I have heard and seen some of those stories play out where there were negative influences that have affected an immigrant's life. So sad sad.gif

How would you feel about your SO viewing a gay porn website?

His bags would be packed and we'd be filing for divorce. I don't buy that "curious" "I was just looking" "this is nothing" excuse...to me that is a big sign and he'd be out the door.

Fi real...a big deal breaker right there that would send my antennae up.

yes.gif I know one of the "issues" my friend had when they had their baby was that he wanted to pierce her ears immediately after baby was born and she was totally against the idea. I guess it's very typical for little babies to get ears pierced in JA right away. Well, it was a big argument and they didn't do it. Now the baby is over 2 yrs. old and she wishes she would have gotten them done when she was a baby! Now she's at the age where she'll play with them or pull them out etc..

What do you ladies think? Since I'm having a girl, I'm sure this is going to come up soon in my house!

Both my sisters had their daughters' ears pierced when they got their first shots at the pediatrician. Give them all the pain at one time and they don't remember a thing yes.gif

Well good Lord does he have a job? Does he say these things cause he expects you to buy them for him. I find this to be a Jamaican trait. LOL. I thik it comes from the misperception of how much money American make or have.

I wish that you would not make such statements to generalize us mad.gif . My husband is not like that and as a Jamaican woman, I am not either. I understand the value of a dollar and work hard for it. Neither myself, my husband nor my family expect a handout from anyone. Hi everyone,

Everything is going good with me and SO. He is already starting to get a little depressed about not finding work but I just keep telling him to hang in there. We went to the SSA office on the 16th so hopefully he will get a card soon so that he can work. I haven't read anything beyond this page so if anyone was asking me something directly you should PM me the quest as i have gotten a few already. When I left we were on page 536 and now we almost on 600.....can't read all of that.

Welcome back Shonnie. Good to see you online. I know exactly what you mean. Hubby has been here for 4 days and he is already obsessing about work. We went to visit one of the suppliers of the company he worked for in Jamaica and they are already putting the word out for him to get a job. They have already made a few calls for him and took us for lunch today. It was nice, almost felt like visiting family. He has a few prospects and one that we are particularly interested in, we are going to wait to visit after he gets the SSC. Good luck to you and SO.

QUOTE (Marlita @ Oct 18 2007, 01:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Just to comment on how these antics may continue when your SO gets here...I think thats all well and true cause just cause they get to the US doesnt mean that they are all of a sudden "American" and checked their Jamaican identity at the door. blush.gif
I think the adjustment is better depending on how un-selfish your SO is, and how much they are willing to compromise with you. I sometimes think that we as Americans are so used to many people of different countries and cultures coming here or living here but we like the fact that those people "melt" into our pot rather than just get "tossed" in. So don't hold on to the idea that he will be the same way when he gets here. Let him know how you feel and how the two of you should begin working on your compromising skills now cause you are both coming from 2 different cultures and societies so BOTH your ideas and notions are valid and correct its just that they dont always agree with each other. You can't really bash him for having a different opinion than you cause his opinion is all he knows.

So as far as how you would like to raise your kids, you may just have to compromise and in some ways raise them the way he would like also. I think these are all just the BASIC concepts that come into a marriage whether from 2 different cultures or not. I think some of us on here have more problems cause of how fast the marriage came before the discussion of these types of compromises....so you just have to work a bit harder in the beginning. Its all about respect and understanding of one anothers culture in the end. heart.gif

Marlita, very good points and I must agree with what you have to say on the issue good.gif

Ok, so I had just finalized my divorce in October 2006, after 8 years of marriage 2 actually married and 6 years of 'trying' to make it work separately. I swore I would NEVER EVER get married again. That was just NOT for me!

My family had planned a trip back to JA for my Godparent's 50th Anniversary, in November 2006.

I was staying at a hotel near MoBay and Ken worked there! He said 'Hi' my first day there and I grumbled 'Hi' back and kissed my teeth at him...Surprisingly, he laughed at my response. I was so anti-love and men at that point. I didn't want to hear it. Everyday, he would find me and make sure to say 'Hi' or ask me 'How I was doing?' (Most days I'd just give him the death stare and tell fi leave me alone) Well, he asked me to go to dinner with him, I laughed at first, then realized I hadn't really gone out since I had gotten to Mo Bay, I agreed. We went to the Ville and the Pelican for a Wacky Wednesday party and danced the night away! I hadn't had such a good time in YEARS!!

We went to Coral Cliff the next night and just talked until I missed ther darn bus back to the hotel. And we went out the night after that! I really started to warm-up to him and enjoyed his company, sense of humour and his passion to do better in life!

He told me I would marry him on the the day I left and I just laughed in earnest then.

We exchanged numbers and I went home. We've spoken every single day since. Sometime around Christmas we realized that we had fallen in love and I was scared witless! I went down to JA in February and had a really good time with Ken again. Then I went back to JA. with my sons in June, (I needed to make sure that they would get along with him.) And the last night I was there he asked me to marry him and surprisingly ...I said yes!!

I actually started thinking about filing for him in December, but took my time and made sure it all clicked. I did. I have never been so happy. I have finally found my soulmate. I didn't believe in that ####### before, but little by little this man broke the wall around my heart and showed me what TRUE love is, and for that I am forever grateful and thank God EVERYDAY for blessing me with such a good, kind, motivated, and sincerely sweet man.

So I say all this to say...Never say never...cause you never know what Jah has in store for you!

Blessings heart.gif,
Gill

Gill, that was so sweet...I hate love stories, but unnu getting mi all mushy inside laughing.gif laughing.gif . By the way, I LOVE THE PELICAN!!! heart.gif It holds such good memories of when I would go down to Hanover to visit my grandparents with my parents. We always used to stop there for breakfast on Saturday mornings. luv.gif

So yesterday............The limited the race to 50 guys. Butt ugly shoes. Do men actually see us as wearing such ugly shoes? One guy had zebra striped KISS boots.

They taped the shoes on to try and limit casualities. Made them sign all kinds of waivers.

http://i51.photobuck...621337_0002.jpg
http://i51.photobuck...621337_0001.jpg

10 groups of 5 men raced. Whittled the winners down to 2 groups of 5. Whittled down to 2 guys. The prize....4 front row Hanna Montana tickets and 4 back stage passes. (BTW....whoever commented on the Jonas Brothers in a previous post....they are the opening band.)

Andre won his first race. Lost the 2nd. At least he didn't fall, dive on the concrete, or lose a shoe like some men. And, he got a free t-shirt.

I have never laughed so hard in my entire life. (Ah, the things we do for our kids!)

JG...Thanks for sharing. That was too cute laughing.gif

Speaking of when and how we met, we haven't compared stories in a long while. How did you ladies meet your boyfriend/fiance/husband? How long did you know each other before you filed? How many times have you been to Jamaica?

Awwww...that was a sweet story Rhonda. I met Aaron 13 years ago in church - we attended the Kingston Open Bible Church. I was sitting with my best friend and her boyfriend (now her husband) and I saw this handsome young man sitting in a center aisle of the church. I commented to my friends that I thought he was cute and it turned out that BF's boyfriend knew him. At first Aaron didn't want to meet me, but we wore him down and he caved in. I would say the rest is history, but we lost contact when I moved here first in '95 and reconnected in '99. We have been together since. wub.gif wub.gif

Aliens In Jamaica

There was this couple sitting on the porch in Westmoreland, Jamaica watching the sun go down. All of a sudden this shooting light went across the sunset.

Wife: "A wha dat?"
Husband: "A mus' one space ship."

Wife: "Spaceship???? You damn Eeediat!!"
A little while later the couple went back into the house. Suddenly there was a knock on the door and the husband opened it. There was an alien couple on the doorstep.

Alien Male: "Good evening, we come in peace. May we rest in your dwelling while our space ship is fixed?" The husband's eyes almost popped out of his head because the female alien had a WICKED body.

Husband: "Come een, come een. Of course you can come an' res' yuhself." So the husband and wife fed and watered their guests and showed them to their room for the night.

Male Alien: "Where we come from it is our tradition to swop partners when we have guests." Well, the husband was up to it, because the female alien was seriously turning him on with her looks.

Husband: "Well, dats alright with me."
Wife: "Oh, I don't know, because I don't really believe in dat kind of t'ing."

Husband: "Come on honey, is only a lickle bit of fun, an nobody nuh gwine know."
Wife: "Well, OK then."

The male alien takes the wife into his room, and, knowing that she wasn't 100% comfortable with the idea, he was very gentle and gave her plenty foreplay. When they got into the swing of things the male alien asked, "would you like a bit more length?"

Wife: "Likkle more length,? hee! hee!, a wha yuh mean? How you gwine do dat?"

So the alien twists his right ear, and presto!, his willy gets longer. Well the wife was having a whale of a time when the Alien asked, "would you like a bit more width?"

Wife: "Width! Well, OK then."
So the alien twists his left ear, and presto!, his willy gets fatter.

The following morning the wife wakes up with the biggest smile you can imagine on her face and walks into the living room to find her husband looking vex sitting on the sofa.

Wife: "Hello darling, did you have a good night last night?"

Husband: "Stuups ..... No! All night long di damn woman just deh deh a twis up, twis up mi rass ears dem".

Hey guys,

Have not been on here so long. Thought i would play catch up, but 527 pages is too much for my poor soul to read. See a few familiar faced and so many new ones. Damn, these Jamaican men must be doing something right!

Hubby and I are doing great. Going back to JA for Xmas. Out 3rd trip since she moved here last year. We almost forgot we have immigration issues to deal with in two years when this conditional status needs to be lifted. So busy living, USCIS is the furthest from our minds.

So much has changed since my day. Last year this time we were so nervous about an interview. Now all she is scared about is graduating from college. She should be done in Spring 2008. whopeee. Can hardly wait.

For all the new people on here, I am reading the messages and see things have changed so much. But just remember, love move mountains. It is such a beautiful thing and just keep the faith. It has to work, Failure is not an opyion

Till next time.

Congratulations to your wifey on her upcoming graduation good.gif ; I'll be graduating this Fall and I am so excited, especially now that my honey is here. Take care

Thanks Marie and jamerican -- it is going to be an adjustment for him. According to him, Miramar is Kingston 21; he says it is like Jamaica only cleaner laughing.gif laughing.gif It is amazing having him here and it feels like a dream. I feel like I am dreaming and any moment I am going to wake up and he is not beside me. It is such a dream come true...I know it is not going to be an easy transition, but to have my best friend here with me is AMAZING.
The most disappointing aspect thus far is that he will have to wait 21 days to go to the Social Security office to get his SSN. Since all the changes, there has been some issues with issuing SSC because some applicants have been going into the SSA office and applying for the SSC while the Immigration agency is also issuing one for them; so people have been getting 2 SSNs. Honestly it concerns me that some disconnect is still happening between government agencies -- isn't this how 9/11 occurred? mad.gif
So apparently the whole Social Security BS is that if he doesn't have a SSC within 21 days, we should go back to the office and then they have to check the master list to see if his card is being processed; if he is not on the list, then they can start the process of getting his SSC...#######???!!!!! mad.gif Since graduating from HS, hubby has been working, so he doesn't know what it is like not making his own money; I know there is going to be a job on his horizon because his boss from his last job is trying to talk up some suppliers in Florida, to hook him up with something. So this is frustrating for him!

I remember when we got off the plane together and landed here in Cali - and having him sleep next to me in my home...it was so surreal. Cherish every moment!

Don't fret over SS - the first few weeks should be of him getting used to being in his new environment. Let him enjoy being here and getting settled before you start the job hunt.

Congrats heart.gif

Thanks Jonesie...Honestly, I want him to take this time to relax and get use to the environment, but ah him waan go out deh and do him tings. Mi nuh know why him no waan chill out and get him bearings together, but he is used to working. I totally appreciate that he wants to jump into the role of provider - it's why I love him so yes.gif

Did you really think things were going to speed up once he got here?

It's just the beginning of the fun. Keep the patience.

What frustrated us the most is that we called before going out to the office and we were not advised that we should wait 3 weeks before trekking down there. It was such a waste of time, but we will be patient. I am hoping that it is in fact in progress and he will receive it soon! good.gif The man is ready to earn his keep. wub.gif
