Not really. I work 2 jobs so there isn't much room for plans. Working on Christmas presents tonight again. Andre works overnight tonight and tomorrow night. I work tomorrow afternoon and Sunday morning. Might go see that new The Rock movie on Sunday afternoon. Looks pretty funny.

I just saw that movie....very cute...even had to wipe a tear or 2 crying.gif Tyler Perry's new movie "why did I get married" - or something like that....is out and looks really good. good.gif

Any one know about how much school books should cost for an 8th grader in JA?

The bookstores are online, but unfortunately the prices aren't listed. I saw the price for an A Level Accounting book - J$1550 (this is usually for those who are in 6th form (12th grade)). If you have a list of the books, you can probably email info@kingstonbookshop.com. This is usually cheaper than Sangster's Bookstore. Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.

I didn't even know that picking up the visa was an option.....wow, I want to go that route so that he can fly back with me...(if I have to go). Maybe we might just stay a few nights in Kingston....maybe maybe maybe....geeeze!!!

When we went to Airpak, it seem like they had pre-checked to deliver to your SO's home. Note that your SO HAS to be the one to sign for it, so it may be a better deal to pick it up. I wish that we had done that as Aaron would have gotten it on Wednesday rather than Friday.

Has anyone ever flown Spirit?

I hear more and more people are using that airline to go to JA. I need to check out their fares.

Hey Marie, you seem to be in my neighborhood...I used Spirit a few years ago from FTL and I was scared out of my wits...the plane seemed a little old and rickety. I am sure they have improved since then, I heard they changed their planes. The biggest problem I have with them is the schedule (1 flight in and out of Kingston). In general I have been using Air J and last year, I ended up with a pretty cheap ticket going Dec. 23rd - Jan. 2nd. Unfortunately, it is not all the time that you will end up with deals with this kind of travel; I took a chance and won out in the end.
Good luck on your exams...my LAST exam will be Dec. 16th.

JG - I have been talking to hubby about the culture shock he will experience, especially as it applies to the gay lifestyle. Honestly, though I do not agree with the lifestyle, I have no problem with them. I have had friends who wish they never had to deal with them at all, including some in the medical field. Aaron doesn't condone the lifestyle, but because of his temperament, I know he will treat them with respect and dignity.
If Andre is okay with other gays that he met, maybe there is something more about this guy that bothers him.

What hotel is closest to the embasssy, and is clean and cheap. Whats up with Christar Villas how far is that away does anyone know....

Kim,

On my last trip to Kingston, I stayed the 1st night at the Knutsford Court and the last two nights at Hilton Kingston. The Knutford Court cost was $107 plus tax and the two nights at the Hilton was $218 plus tax. I got the nights for the Hilton via Hotwire. For some reason the cost on Hotwire for my 1st night in Kingston was $230 fo Sep 26. So I decide to get the last two nights via Hotwire and found the 1st night at http://www.seejamaicacheaply.com/

The Knutford Court was very clean and the staff was pleasant. It also came with a free continental breakfast. I could definitely stay here again.

Hilton Kingston--is definitely consider 4 stars. It is located within a block of several fast food places, Burger King, Wendy's Juicy Beef, Pizza Hut and a place that is very similar to Island Grill ..it is Jamrock something.. There are several clubs like The Quad and Assylum mix into this area. The Bob Marley park is less than a block the opposite direction. I have stayed at the Hilton several times to include my wedding night/honeymoon. So it is defintely my preferred hotel when I am in Kingston and most time I can get it for about the same price. Every time I have bid on a hotel in Kingston I have always gotten Hilton Kingston.

I have stayed in a couple of other places in Kingston. The Four Season...my experience was pretty bad and I do not see me every staying there again. The staff was horrible! The Mayfair ..they had low water pressure. I stay there one night and was move due to no water being in our room. We were upgrade to the Prime Minister suite. There were a little water but no hot water; plus the TV was missing crying.gif . We checking in late so we just called it a night and stayed. The 2nd time we stay there for three nights during the world cup; it was the only place available. THis stay was ok. The water pressure still was not that good but the staff was pretty decent.

Jenice

The Four Seasons was horrible when we went there as well.

Congrats again Jenice kicking.gif kicking.gif

It's not very far. Have you ever been to Sovereign in Liguanea? It's not very far from there. On a clear day, it will take about 25 minutes. Leave as early as you can to get there because you will be dealing with school traffic; there are about 3 schools on Hope Road alone, between New Kingston and where the embassy is now.

Christar is by far the closest...it's right across the road from my alma mater (Campion). It's a few blocks away from the embassy. It's a nice little walk, but it can be done; if you drove, it's 5 minutes, if that much (only because of the traffic lights and congestion on that road).

I stayed at Sunset Inn before i can see the hilton from there im just not sure if thats close to the embassy it was clean and cheap though about 65-70 US http://sunsetinn-ja.com/. Its on Altamont Crescent....Knutsford seems pretty nice i odnt even care what it look like lol as long as im on time for my interview!!! i dont want to be late!! hey do they ever let you in early? I wonder what time they actually start the interviews.

we had a early interview and i was told be ppl on vj to get there i think by 6 or something like that...mike didn't believe me until he asked the security guards at the hotel and he yes you shoul be there early cause i line will start...this was at the old embassy so i am not sure how it is at the new place...also the guard called a taxi for us...so we didn't have to worry about getting a ride...

Hey JALOVE, our interview was at 1:30 and they let us in as soon as we got there, at 12:15p. I don't know if it was due to the fact that the interview may have been on an off day (it was a Friday), but there wasn't a line for us to get in.
If you still want to stay in New Kingston, you can, a taxi will be able to get you there. Just leave with enough time to spare. As I said, Christar is just down the road, but I have never stayed there, so I don't know how nice it is.

Well it can be taken several ways what was said in respect to the vetaran comment so we when posting should try to understand that when you type words they can be taken different ways as opposed to actually speaking. I read that statement abt the veterans several times and in all honestly it can be viewed negatively or positively. Words on paper or screen are very different than spoken word. Everyone comprehends differently, information presented to them. I was always taught to think before i speak as some things can come off wrong and once said they cant be taken back. Lets all try to stay positive here and focus on what we are all here for smile.gif to support each other through our journey all this added fighting amongst us makes it a bit more stressful. I never even considered not having him at the airport. I don't really know anyone else there so he always just takes me. It was never hard to leave until we became husband and wife. All the other times were fine. I wasnt happy about leaving, but it had to be done and I knew that i was coming back. BUt this last time I was so used to being around him everyday and dependant on him for a month that I started to hyperventilate at the thought of leaving him. I did not expect that. There is definitely a different feeling when that other person is your married half, it is literally like not being whole until you are together.

You aren't lying Marlita. I miss my "main rib" when I am away from him. A lot of the ladies at work are very supportive of me getting my Masters and saying, "it's better that he is not here so you can concentrate on school". Funniest thing is, I do so much better with him around. blush.gif

advice should i fly back with him when he gets the visa or for him to fly alone did everyones SO have any issues when they got to the airport

I flew back with hubby, but from South Florida the cost of both tickets is probably what many of you in the other states are paying for your own round-trip ticket. There were no issues at the airport - it was only a very LONG wait sleep.gif

My husband never had a microwave either but it started on fire when he started to cook popcorn. His mother, aunt and friends all cooked for him so he never learned. He use to always eat out because it was cheap for him to do in JA.

Popcorn?? laughing.gif laughing.gif Yes, no cooking for him laughing.gif laughing.gif

Andre has been growing out his hair a bit lately. And, in between brushings for work, he was locking it a bit by twisting it between his fingers. Saturday, after I had worked all day, came home to have a drink and buzzing a little, he decides I need to take the electric razor and straighten up the lines around his face. I strongly argued against it; but in the end, I decided to try. Well, of course, I cut 2 curls off accidently on the one side and one on another. He threw a fit and ended up shaving it all off (after he made us laugh by shaving off just parts at a time). I told him it was his fault cause he got me all chilled out and then made me cut his hair. I don't think he will do that again.

Blind Man Test

A blind Jamaican man walks into a little restaurant and sits down.

The owner walks up to him and hands him a menu.

"Mi blind, sah, an caan se fe read de menu".

Jus bring mi one fork dat one ah yu customah use arreddy, an mi will smell it an order fram it"

A little confused, the owner walks over to the dirty dish pile and picks up a greasy fork. He returns to the man's table and hands it to him.

The blind man puts the fork to his nose and takes in a deep breath. "Ah, yes, dat's what mi will 'ave - rice nd peas wid jerk fish!"

Unbelievable, and after the blind man leaves, the owner walks towards the kitchen and tells his Wife Dawn, the cook, what just happened.

Several days later, the blind man returns, and the owner mistakenly brings him a menu again.

"Sir, remembah mi? Mi ah de blind man."

"I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you. I'll go get you a fork."

The owner gets a dirty fork for the blind man.

After another deep breath, the blind man says, "Dat smells great! Mi will take de jerk chicken an rice wid broccoli."

The owner thinks the blind man is screwing around with him and figures that the next time the man comes in, he's going to test him.

He returns the following week, but this time the owner sees him coming and runs to the kitchen. He tells his wife, "Dawn, rub this fork on your panties." Dawn does it and hands the fork to her husband.

As the blind man walks in and sits down, the owner is ready and waiting.

"Good afternoon, sir, this time I remembered you, and I have your fork ready for you."

The blind man puts the fork to his nose, sniffs, and says,

"Rass mon, mi neva know say Dawn wuk yah!"

There's the link for the "infamous" video. I was so disturbed that I had to watch madwhitejamaican and paleface on YouTube after...

Yeah I found it and was telling my fiance, Ken about it this morning laughing.gif ..He was like "HERE...IN MO BAY!?!?!? WHERE DEM DEH?" Even if I knew I wouldn'tell him...I need a nice clean police certificate thank yuh very much laughing.gif "He was like Yard a guh tuh 'ell inna handbasket!!!" Oh Lord...DRAMA KING!!! He does NOT play that ATALL!!!!

The video was very interesting...I couldn't even watch all of it...just couldn't swallow the jamaican accents coming from the finely made-up lipstick wearing mouths!!

Blessings, Gill
