A friend called today from JA saying it has been raining for a month and the roads are flooding in Mobay....so then I got a visual of his (Kevin's) skinny butt floating down the street sort of like river rafting!!!! laughing.gif Mind you...I am tring to remain positive....without going crazy... Yeah, it has been raining like crazy. This is hubby's last week at work and earlier this week he was considering not going in because of the rains. They actually closed some schools yesterday and they let hubby and his co-workers go home early today to make sure that they got home safely. There's been a system sitting right over them with a lot of haeavy rains. Is like God ah try flood out di badness.

By using your married name on the form though you have not changed it on other identifications, when you send it in with the form it will signify that your name can be officially changed due to the marriage. I told him to take a Juta bus or route taxi and no way would it cost him $20! laughing.gif That got rid of him!!


I have talked to a lot of men that have decided on this way of life in Ochi...of course most are gone now (some moved away to Kingston...got greencards...got ship work...or were actually murdered sad.gif ). After the inital approach and me letting them know that it wasn't going down...we actually had some very enlightening conversations. I have watched some of them "work" and watched the women come and go...and be replaced by other women sometimes on the same trip. The men often have several women at one time that live in the US or Canada or the UK. I have tried talking to some of the ladies...but to no avail. It is amazing how defensive women can get when potential love is threatened. I don't try to tell the women that their relationship is not real...just try to have casual conversation about the possibility of meeting a hustler...and I get treated like I'm a man thief or something. The hustlers that I got to know over several trips, looked out for me, and let the "newbies" know that I wasn't buying. LOL

I have not had the best experiences in Jamaica either. I have almost been raped...three times. I have been called a lesbian...you name it. Some of the men can't believe that a woman (single or married) would return again and again and not be looking for the "hood". At one point, my bad experiences just trying to come to a place that I loved outweighed the good experiences and I made up my mind never to return. I am still deathly afraid of using a taxi driver that I don't know (even if a friend recommends them)...I won't do jet ski rides that require alone time with the guy...and will not visit the beach alone at dusk. Other than those precautions...I decided not to let a few bad mind people ruin something that truly brings me joy and peace in my life.

The guys I met years ago were much more civil and respectful...and actually respected me when I gave them a polite no...but was always open to conversation. The guys now are a lot more aggressive and angry and hostile....a fuse waiting to blow. So, I mind my business now and I don't talk to the women that are love interests at all now or the hustlers after the initial not interested. sad.gif

I love my country and my country-men, but some of them can be so "ignorant". In their minds they are God's gift to women and how dare you rebuff their advances. Dem can call mi stuck up (though of course they will call you worse), but mi nah give dem de time of day, especially when them ready fi class yu because yu nuh talk to dem.

Jawi, I don't blame you for being as cautious as you are. A lot of people go on vacation and take down the guard that they regularly have, which will keep them away from danger (Natalie Holloway + a female journalist who went missing in Jamaica). As a tourist, you think the natives will take care of you, but too much bad mind people out deh. Yu haffi careful. I hope I never fall into that tourist trap and listen to my instincts.

You guys have been some of the most geniune people I have met in a long time. *weepy* Thanks for all the calls and support. I know that so many other people are suffering a lot more than me...but it is very hard to keep smiling through the pain. I was overjoyed to finally find out what was wrong...I felt renewed. The doctor said he has never seen such a happy reaction to being told you have something that may require surgery. I'm not happy at all about possible surgery...and I will put that off as long as humanly possible.

I told the doc and my boss that I was ready to come back to work. My neck and shoulder said "uh-huh...right....well go without us then."

Oh honey sad.gif At least we know what the problem is and can pray about it. Though I am unhappy that you aggravated your shoulder, due to that dumb ### woman, I am happy that you are safe and sound, though in pain. I tell you, one thing I have to say about learning to drive in Jamaica, I have learned defensive driving and to be aware of the eediat dem roun' mi! You really have to drive for yourself and the others out there, because they don't seem to understand that if they get in an accident with you, dem alone nah dead or get injured...Ole fart dem!!! mad.gif

Fi real, Shawn drop some knowledge today and started a great topic. I remember last year, one of my mother's friends started talking about this guy she met when she went home. Because I know she always salt with things, I was worried about this relationship that she was getting into. She finally got him here on the K1 summer of 2006. Now, things not working out. Few months after he got here, him run up the phone bill calling him baby mother back home. Right now, she want him out, but is hell!

We really haven't been asked to bring gifts down at all.

I encourage letting family in JA know that living in foreign not easy and it is not a bed of roses. I ensure that I don't paint this rosey picture of
gold-lined" streets and rivers of milk and honey. We have to work hard to pay these bills and to live fairly comfortably. Of course, I have no problem bringing something every now and again, but I don't have money like that and I make sure they know that. Jax, count your blessings -- some people have to send barrel with all the things that are requested from them.

Oh yes, how could I forget. I remember when I was going to UTech, I lived in Spanish Town so that meant I had to take a taxi from Johns Road to Spanish Town, then get the bus from Spanish Town to take me to Half-Way-Tree then on to Papine. One day, my taxi ride was on the driver's seat with him. Fi see dis 6ft+ man and him at least 200+ pounds a share him seat wid me a go a Spanish Town. I never see another country like Jamaica. And of course you all know that pretty much most of the taxis are stick shift, so he is changing the gears while I'm sitting beside -- mi did ready fi ask him if him waan mi change the gear dem fi him.

Kimmy - honestly, mi nuh know wah yu a go do wid di MIL. Honestly, I think Kashi needs to finally get fed up and talk to him mother. If him don't do it, you are going to need to. She needs to realize a new sheriff is in town. If him talk to her, at least he won't feel like he is caught in the middle. He needs to realize she is a big woman and she should be able to tek talking to and recognize seh him ah nuh pickney and him need fi tek care ah him family. I thank God for the in-laws that I have. Though I know we (meaning me until Aaron get a job) will need to help support them monthly, he has let them know that we have our own life to live. In all the time that we have been together, they don't get involved in our relationship and they have always been welcoming to me no matter what. For the past 4 years, I have always gone home and stayed with them and have always felt welcome. I am sure that they won't change once he gets here and if they do, I know he will deal with it. Kashi needs to mek MIL know, u are #1.
